A friend of mines that grew up in South Gate had been RAVING about this place for a long time. He keeps telling this is the best Ceviche in the world. Well i've had my share of good a$$ Ceviche both restaurant and home made so i know Ceviche.

I have to admit this is pretty damn good Ceviche, one of the best I've ever tried. The Coctel de Camaron is served hot and I'm not a big fan of that. But if your a fan of Ceviche and like it chunky, this is the place for you...Definitely one of the best in the LA area.

Honorable mention: Ceviche (add Avocado to make it that much better)

I'm a pseudo-vegetarian that breaks down and eats seafood about 3 times a year, and this is where I do it.  The shrimp cocktails are DELICIOUS.  They are made with so much love, thanks Ralph.  The ceviche is quite tasty according to what everyone else tells me (I've never tried it), and I LOVE the home-made tostadas.   Throw a little avocado and tapatio into the mix, and you've got yourself a damned good time.

It's family run and owned and they are all just fabulous.  The cocktail chef is especially handsome, and ladies, rumor has it he's single.

Okay. I'm aware that this place is in Bell. Warning: This place is in Bell. It's a hole in the wall with no air conditioning (and yes, it's a mariscos place so that's kind of weird). All they sell is ceviche and cocktails. I strongly suggest getting an order to go/taking the food to a place more comfortable. However, eating there works too. I've been going here for years. It's...well, it's amazing.

It's the best fucking ceviche you'll ever eat, except your mom's or my mom's or another homemade one--truly. This place will change your life. Try it. Enjoy it. Love it. Live it. (I don't know what that last part means, sorry.)

Though their menu is very, very limited, this is the best shrimp cocktail and arguably the best ceviche sold in all of Southern California.  This place was established many years ago at a smaller location down the street from where it currently resides and moved here to accommodate its growing clientele.  Many of the patrons that visit El Pollero have been frequenting the place for at least a decade, if not longer.  Unlike most traditional "marisco" restaurants, the shrimp cocktails here are served warm, making them as unique as they are tasty.  Very few ingredients make these cocktails a very simple fare, but undoubtedly the best "coctel de camaron" you will probably ever have.  The ceviche here is a simple combination of ingredients as well, but much like their cocktails, will surely satisfy.  All food items are served with freshly home-made corn tostadas, and the guys behind the counter will also include saltine crackers with your order if you ask.  Parking here can be extremely limited on the weekends, however parking is available along the adjacent residential street if the parking lot is full.  Friendly staff (mostly all related) and extremely good food make this place an absolute visit!  Cash only.

I hate "ceviche" everywhere I have ever tried it at. EXCEPT HERE!!!

There is no ceviche like the one here its just sets the standard, no lemon flavor to it, no tomato just onion and cilantro and big chunks of fish.

And the cocktails here have the biggest shrimp and a delicious unique flavor to them. The cocktails are not cold but warm, if cold is more your taste taking it home and leaving it in the fridge should do it. Not just the shrimp cocktail but any cocktail here is good.

Looks can be deceiving, the place looks run down and very tiny inside not very welcoming to eat at but I always take to go.

Oh yeah the place does NOT sell any chicken! As I said looks can be deceiving.
I would give it 10 stars if I could!
