came through fillmore last monday on a motorcycle ride out towards hwy33 with a couple of friends.... after stopping by the fish hatchery (always!..), we were gettin pretty hungry... i had remembered seeing this place from the hwy last time through and so we decided to stop by....
we came in at about 9:30AM, so breakfast was on our minds...

started off with some coffee, which was served in nice big mugs with all the refills we could take... a nice touch was the traditional mexican sweet breads as well as chips and salsa on the side (gratis...)

i love menus with pictures of the food.... and this was not making the decision a quick one... everything looked and sounded really good!! two of us got the ChileCiles (sp?) con Huevos... (tortillas and scrambled eggs marinaded and cooked/smothered in a mild-spiced salsa), while the third person got the Huevos Divorciados... (same as above but with two different types of salsas and eggs any style). both were served with sides of rice, beans and potato wedges.....

the food came out quickly at  about the same time we got our orders of FRESH-SQUEEZED orange juice... the portions were large, but not so much that we left anything on the plates... the service/staff were very friendly and helpful (always a bonus in the morning!!)

prices must have been pretty reasonable, because when the check arrived, one of the other guys grabbed it and said he'd buy the breakfast!!

needless to say, we will all be back here again soon!!!  breakfast was so good, i don't think we'll ever try lunch or dinner!!! we didn't even stop for more food until a late dinner we were so full and satisfied

This place sucks.

Major entrees are wrapped in foil. You don't know what;s in the foil, until you open the foil, then what's in the foil is nasty. SURPRISE!

If in Fillmore, you have PLENTY of choices for Mexican food. Go to Ay Chihuahua down the street or Vallarta Restaurant, Margaret's Cocina, hell even Taco Bell is better.

However, if you find yourself in El Pescador, make sure to have a couple of margaritas. By the time you're plastered, the taste of the food won't matter.

Anyway, for God's sake, will someone open an Italian Restaurant in Fillmore!

p.s. Can't find the restaurant? Look for the U-Haul vans parked along Hwy 126 to guide you.

I have been there twice. Both times the service SUCKS!!

Well at least the two waiters we've had do. The food I like, no doubt about that. It's very good, i've had better but it's still good.

But when you have to get up three times to ask your waitress for napkins, an extra fork and a refill,  all because she's chit chatting it's PATHETIC.

I tip very well and if they are really good I tip extra. I was so pissed that I simply left  average tip and wrote on my tab retrain your waiters!

NEVER GOING BACK!

My family and I visit El Pescador in (Fillmore) three times a week for lunch and dinner. We have tried just about everything on their menu and have yet to be disappointed. Very accommodating staff and always there when you need them. My wife loves the service button at each table for your waitress. I love there Empapelado entree it as shrimp, octopus, fish & vegetable in a cream sauce all wrapped in foil (there only entree in foil, photo in menu) the best Mexican food  & service in town.

Big time!!

Ahh Heritage valley- Such a strange place. A place plucked right out of descriptions in any given Steinbeck novel. Rolling hills, jutting mountains, vineyards and orchards. Just beautiful, driving through, it can almost double for Napa Valley, and is a great oasis between Santa Clarita and Ventura.

While a beautiful valley with so much potential, there is just not much here in terms of dining and city life. Maybe that's a good thing, especially for the people who live here.

El Pescador is famous in the area as one of the best restaurants in town, in either Santa Paula or Fillmore. We arrived on Sunday on the way to Rail fest, Filmore's annual celebration of its railroad culture.

We had to wait 20 minutes and the waiting area was very crammed. Once seated I found the chips and Salsa Average. What I really liked was the Soups. Albondigas and the Caldo de mar were delicious. The Soup was fresh and had a great spicy broth.

I had the Camarones de Diablo, which was very Spicy- and Fantastic!
My wife had the Carnitas Plate which was also was very good.

All in all quite- very good, I will be back- if just for the view on the way up.

My favorite Mexican food place. Anywhere. Love the cheese enchilada plate, shrimp cocktail delicious, service the best. Hard to find good "sit down" Mexican food, and this is a sure stop every time I go home.

I always pass by this place on my way to Ventura and always say " I need to try it". Today was the day!! First impression was that it was a very nice and spacious restaurant. There is a gal making handmade corn tortillas!!! When I began looking at the menu I was a bit worried because the first 3 pages were all Mariscos (Seafood) which im not a big fan of. But then I saw that the Chili Colorado was a chef specialty. I ordered that with some of those fresh hot corn tortillas. The food came in less than 10-minutes and was piping hot. The chili colorado came with beans, rice and some lettuce on the side. Everything was excellent, especially the tortillas!!! The portion was huge so I took home a doggie bag and enjoyed it later. I will be back. And by the way the shrimp cocktail ordered at a nearby table looked outstanding.

We stop here with friends when we visit in the Oxnard area every year. The service is great, and with good timing the crowds can be avoided and being seated is rapid. We had a variety of dishes which stay consistent year after year as tasty and spicy. They serve their dinner platers with a roasted serrano to add to the flavor of a many dishes. Drinks and cocktails were generous, and the service was quick and courteous. it is a 20 minute drive from Ventura/Oxnard and well worth it. i am adding an edit: Entrees will receive a tasty small bowl of albondigas soup which again this year was a welcome surprise.
