Way Fucking Bomb!!  This place is the real deal.  Love their pupusas, I always get a loroco (google it, its a tasty green flower) pupusa and chicharron.  Yucca and chicharron is pretty good as well.  Platanos and black beans with sour cream, Yum! I have had their sopa de gallina (hen soup) and its good! Its made from chicken with veggies, but then they grill the chicken and you get that on the side with tortillas, rice and salad.

OG Salvadorean drinks too, I get an horchata (it's homemade no Horchata bang bullshit), but they have others like tamarindo, jamaica, ensalada de fruta and Kola Champagne.  Other central american goodies like quesadilla (salvadorean sweet bread), chips and canned goods.

Parking can suck sometimes, but well worth the drive to Wilmas. They have several tvs playing soccer games or some merenge music videos.

I been going to El metapaneco for many years food is ok, but costumer service is horrible especially from the owner. I had an incident with him last week and I will never go back again! He needs to learn business etiquette.

First I'll say something nice: they're pupsas are really good here. Tamales and tacos not so much. So why the 1 star rating? Hair. I ordered a tamale, pupusa plate, and tacos. The taco had men's hair in the container. I took it back and the guy looked shocked but replaced it. I then check the tamale and there was a hair like strand in there. I took that back and he said it was the banana leaf. That was explainable because it did look like that and not short men's hair. So I went to happily enjoy my pupusa plate when...there was another man's hair follicle on top of the rice. No way was this banana leaf. I was so thorougly disgusted that I just threw all of the food away. I think his hair must fall when he checks the food, but either way its disgusting.

Funny thing is the next pupusa place I went to I told them this and they said to call the health department! You have been warned about the hairy food!

    Central Americans Unite!

i'm not central american but those kids in the central-ness part of the Americas have delicious food!

Their pupusas are not greasy like most place but piping hot with fresh salsas and cream that react with the hot pupusa to create a chain reaction of flavors unseen in north america. Their black beans are mighty tasty and they have central american sodas that add to the authenticity of the place,

the best part is you don't have to go all the way down to central america to enjoy their amazing food its in gritty wilmington!

It's been a little while since I've been here but I was having some cravings for some pupusas so we headed over here.  They have opened up a new section so this restaurant is even bigger now.  I think that they even have music here on the weekends.

I had my traditional pork and bean pupusas with my ensalada drink and they were great.  They have such consistent quality here...and with great service too.  As we were leaving my friend spotted something else he wanted to try in the window so he ordered it and we sat back down and they served it to us.

I also got some "dry" cheese and a tasty soda drink too.  They also sell music DVDs as well.

    Heres the deal,

My central american food,  better be tasty, or im not having it. And this, is just that. Its above average. Yay! You get my plantains and beans right, and im a happy camper. They got it. Their pupusas are pretty solid too. My My bf likes them, and hes not a fan of anything down under... atleast any food below mexico, so thats pretty noteworthy. Whatever.

Ohh and another note, dont expect any pinto beans here sillies, its Salvadorean.. and let me tell you, once you go black, youll never go back :).

If you wanna go truly authentic, skip the coke and go for a Kolashampan or an Ensalada. MM :]

    Enjoy!

I literally order food here at least twice a week!!! They make the best cheese pupusas that I've ever had in my life, and believe me, I've sampled the best of these tasty Salvi delicacies from here to NYC to Central America and back so I think I'm an expert.

On a side note, isn't the best part of a pupusa the burned cheese around the edge? Zomg, I'm salivating.

I've tried quite a few items off the menu, such as the breakfasts, the carne asada, mojarra frita and the platanos and everything is delicious.

I've recently discovered that they randomly play some sweet 80's new wave tunes on Saturdays (complete with music videos). The Cure and pupusas? It's a magical dream come true, I tell ya.

The price is right, the food is good, the horchata is bomb, service is excellent...what are you waiting for? Go forth and gorge.

    Ahhhh, Pupusa y Queso.......YUMMMM!

I always get the cheese pupusa.  To me everything else is just unnecessary, lol!

Runny cheese and corn masa were just meant for each other and meant to satisfy.  I even love to make quesadilla's with corn torillas and cheese at home.

One pupusa - less than $2.  And nice sized, very filling for a snack or light lunch.

I love it how the cheese oozes out while cooking and gets burned, i know it sounds bad but that's the best bit!!  Crunchy and cheesy at the same time, oh....my....GAWD!

I've had some bad pupusas and even nastier curtudo.  But the curtido here was actually good to nosh on as a side dish rather than a condiment.  Very good flavor.  The queso pupusa had a slight tangy flavor that was sooo good.  Dunno if it was the cheese or what they use to pan fry the pupusa.

I live like 5 minutes from this Wilmas location.  The service was very friendly and people seemed to really enjoy thier meals.  Plenty of tables to eat in or take it to go.  This is a semi-hole folks, but those are usually the best places.  I will definately come back and try some other good ol' Salvadorian dishes.

YAY!! Im the First to Review!!!

WOW! How can I sum it up in one word.

    DELICIOUS!!!

These are the *BEST* Pupusas you can eat if you are around this area.
The restaurant itself is hidden in a small shopping center but if you can see the Green sign that says "El Metapaneco, Salvadorean Restaurant" you are at the right spot!

I went on saturday 2 days after thanksgiving, I was getting tired of turkey. They have a variety of pupusas. I always order the "revueltas"
Revueltas are pork meat, beans, and cheese. (yum) Order your drink and in about 10 mins, depending on the clientele, you are ready to eat.
They serve it with "curtido" (pickled cabbage) and a tomato sauce. The size of these pupusas dont disappoint. I get full easily with 3.

Their menu has alot of items that come from its country, El Salvador.
If you are hungry and dont wanna spend too much, this is the place.

This is a great place.  My In-laws introduced me to this place and they are regulars and I am becoming one too.  Staff is friendly and they have a nice variety to choose from.  For me, my favorite is the Pupusas.  The Super Pupusas like the Shrimp and Queso are great.  They also have the normal sized ones that are great as well.  This one is located just south of PCH on Avalon.  Parking can be tough sometimes but we always find a spot.

Foodgasm's are rare for me. I had one today after ordering the Pastelitos de carne. I was in a hurry, but found I had to wait 15 minutes for my meal. I took it to go and ate the little meat pies as a drove back to work. They were perfect.  I washed them down with fresh horchata.

This place is all of 2 miles from where I work. I've could have been eating there all along. Dang!

Love this place, EXCEPT for TWO things.

Let's start with the things I dislike.
    1. The service is really slow.
    - You won`t mind the wait if you have 30-45 min. to kill (waiting for order)
    2. No refills on any drinks. You have to keep buying bottled drinks.

The food is delicious & authentic. By far the best pupusas I have ever had. I would definitely recommend this. Just bring your own 2L drink.

Not too bad, I haven't experienced much Salvadoranian (?) food before but I have to say it was quite tasty and grew on my tastebuds really quick. We were craving tamales and while they were quite different from Mexican tamales they were pretty yummy. The masa was a lot smoother and creamier than mexican masa and the chicken filling also had potatoes in it. You have to eat it with the red sauce they provide, it's not spicy but enhanced the flavor so much. They were huge and also wrapped in bananna leaves which you could definately taste in the masa.
We also had pork and cheese pupusa... yummy, to sum it up it was a fat masa pancake stuffed with pork and cheese they give you a pickled cabbage salad to put on top. I'm getting hungry again thinking about it. I'll definitely try sampling some more Salvadoranian food soon so I can have something to compare this with but will be pleasantly surprised if I find anything much better.

Dammit! I really thought I'd be the first to review this place, but I'm kinda glad I'm not because this place deserves to be known! At least i'm the first to provide photos! YAY!

Here's the deal, I've lived in Wilmas for most of my life and I'm finally deciding to try all the local places.  Also, gas is expensive (again) and my summer job isn't paying me enough to travel around the South Bay for food.  Plus my mom can't cook so I'm happy to visit any place that satisfies my hunger!

El Metapaneco--jointly owned by a mother and daughter have safely secured my business. I recently came here not really knowing what to expect but I thought I'd give it a chance.  I ordered the grilled shrimp plate with an horchata and I fell in love.  First off, this place doesn't jip you on the number of shrimp--usually when I order a shrimp plate I'm never satisfied because most places will give you like 4 and that's it! Not Metapaneco--they must know that people like me are greedy.  The flavor: oh so good! Not over grilled, not under (I don't need to get sick) just the right amount.  The spices, awesome. And then the rice, oh man. I'm Mexican so I was expecting the orange rice--nope, this place is El Salvadorian so I got something between Chinese Fried rice and Mexican rice, mmmmmm good.  What else? I don't know but I'm hungry and I want more. So don't be afraid (there's really no need to be) and get your ass down to Wilmington to try this place!

i come here as often as i can, the food is soo delicious its unbelievable have you ever had ensalada the drink? i soo recommend it. the pupusas are delicious and big the tamales are huge. when it comes to food i have never had a complaint.
there is one small bad review i do have to write about, the service is sloooooooooooow. yes they literally go to the back and kill the chickens to prepare that tamale, after you order it lol...hahaha j/k. but they do take that long, luckily for them they started to incorporate some entertainment, they have a singer, even though he sings rancheras???? eh...ok? maybe cumbias would be more authentic? well the restaurant is in a heavy Mexican surrounding area.  i love this place and will come back over and over again. the selection is great from pupusas, to yuca with chicharron, quesadillas salvadorenas, quesos, postres, sopas de patas and even the galgurias dianas...etc,etc
