Hole in the wall Mexican? Yup!
All sorts of interesting fruit drinks I've never heard of? Check!
I knew this place was going to be good but wow... just great! This taco truck with a couple indoor seats had some of the most authentic food I've tasted in Austin. I had the chicken mini tacos and a barbacoa burrito and it was perfect. The homemade tortillas, secret sauces, just everything... try it yourself!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - J C.Austin, TX2821419Oct 23, 2012
Of all the Mexican food we've experienced in Texas, this food is most like the food we had at street vendors in Mexico. This is either going to be either a very good or very bad thing for you, depending on how iron of a stomach you have, lol.
Tamales are amazing here. The pork is my favorite. They are ridiculously greasy but twice as delicious; the corn part is flavorful and soooo yummy, Jalapeños are spicy and crunchy, their quesadillas are cheesy as shit and their burritos are ummmm... Big and yummy. The service is great- I am a total guera so they always fetch me someone who can understand my mad English order giving skills. They are also ridiculously cheap! Last time we went we spent umm... 11.50 and got six tamales, a fajita steak burrito, two tacos and possibly one other thing I can't recall.
I'm guessing this place will be poppin off w East Austin hipsters soon enough. There was a group of 'em last time we were there. Go, but make sure you have tums first!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Sandeep G.Austin, TX138192829Jul 20, 2012First to Review
After checking out a potential apartment in the Windsor Park area, I drove around aimlessly for a bit to get a feel for the hood. It felt very residential and isolated, and I was worrying about the lack of businesses withing walking distance.
Suddenly, I saw a trailer with a large sign for "BARBACOA DE CHIVO" and made a rapid 3-point turn to get into the lot. [You do know that I am the chupacabra, don't you?]
Alas, it was Tuesday, and the goat was only served on Saturdays and Sundays. But I inquired as to whether their tortillas were handmade, and when they said "Yes!", I introduced myself as the Taco Stalker and ordered one with carnitas (their recommendation) and another al pastor. Both on corn, of course, without having to specify.
The tortillas were great, even if they weren't on the level of La Fruta Feliz. The carnitas was moist and porksome. Likewise for the al pastor, though it could have used more crisped up bits. Both salsas were blazing hot!
Is El Mana going to get me to move to this hood? Probably not. But it'll certainly get me back there on some weekend to try the chivo.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Skrambletron T.Austin, TX08May 29, 2017Updated review
Awesome tacos. Had the pastor, bistec, tinga, bean and cheese and pastor gordita, all were really good. Excellent hand made corn tortillas, creamy salsa Verde and a spicy Chile oil. They have a lot of aguas frescas and a variety of other foods and ice cream. Only two tables inside and one outside.
The reviews combine this spot with another one a little bit east on Manor. Both are really good and worth checking out.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 12, 2017Previous reviewGreat tacos. They'll make migas, which are awesome and great chorizo, egg tacos. Spicy Chile de arbole and Verde salsas.
Tacos are made fresh and tortillas too. We order a bunch then head over to SH for donuts while they prep the tacos. Sweets and savories in one stop. - Julian C.Austin, TX48846Mar 24, 2014
This is another great hole in the wall type Mexican tacorias (sp?) It's a little hard to spot because the business name wasn't really in plain view. We just sort of assumed based on the location on the GPS that we had found the right place. It's on a corner in a building that's also attached to what looked like a local tire repair shop. There was a trailer perpendicular to the building that is also part of the set up.
Honestly, I would go back on the sheer personality of the owner alone. It was like having a foster Mexican mom. Everything was made fresh of course. They also have ice cream and other desserts if your heart desires.
The only bummer is that it's cash only :(Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Julienne V.Austin, TX1263Nov 1, 2015
Just came back from this restaurant. Oh my god, it's so good.
The morning after Halloween was a dizzy spell and had a strong Guinness and vodka scent from parties I attended. I woke up craving for Menudo and it just so happened that it's Sunday today. I went online to try and find a place that isn't too far from home and is serving Menudo. After some Google™-ing and Yelp™-ing, I found El Mana Taqueria y Fruteria. Boy, am I glad I did.
I ordered a small Menudo, six Tamales Puerco and three Bacon and Egg Tacos for the fiance [I'm from Manila and he's half Latino. He jokingly tells me I'm more Mexican than him in terms of food choices]. The Menudo does not have hominy in it, which is the way I prefer my Menudo; the Bacon and Egg tacos, according to the S/O was 'legit' and tasteful. I took the Tamales to-go because I was full after the generous helping of the Menudo. I've yet to taste it and I'll update my review when I do.
Menudo - had the right level of spice, [again] does not have hominy, tripe was cooked perfectly to almost melt-in-your-mouth tenderness, the tortillas that came with were made from scratch fresh from the comal. 5 out of 5.
Breakfast Tacos - savory, eggs were perfect, tortilla [again] was fresh from the comal, and the bacon was crunchy. 5 out of 5.
They also sell bebidas; aguas frescas, aguas preparadas, jugos naturales, chamoyadas, mangonadas and the likes. I vow to try at least one of them in the coming days. Overall, it's a really good restaurant and their food is super good and relatively affordable. Will come back soon; can't keep me away from my Menudo for too long.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lady B.Austin, TX0241Nov 18, 2017

Excellent! We especially enjoyed the beef fajita torta, coconut agua fresca, chicken tinga and pastor mini tacos, and hot cheetos with corn (don't judge). The bread on the torta was divine. The person who took our order was also really nice. They have two tables but I'd definitely recommend to plan to take out. 100% recommend.
