    We actually found out about this truck from Check Please Bay Area. I expected it to be super crowded & out of stuff, but we got there late in the afternoon towards the end of the Alemany Flea and there was no line. As far as I know everything was available. Huaraches are excellent & very fresh. I have to give extra props for huitlacoche being available as a topping. If you've never tried it, it's a fungus that grows on corn. Kind of like a really squishy mushroom-looks gross, tastes great. I can't wait to go back and try some other dishes. Next time I won't spend so much $$ at the flea market so I have enough left over for food. :)

    Went specially to the alemany flea market to try this food truck out and absolutely was not disappointed. Not only is it extremely affordable and doles out a good portion of food, but its incredibly unique and delicious!

    There are a number of choices to pick from with specials. I went with the lamb huarache with cactus salad on top of it. My friend had the tlacoyito (blue corn tortilla with requeson which is a ricotta like mexican style cheese) with chicken. Both were absolutely delicious! I thought, being the pig that I am, that I would want to come back and try something else, but the huarache was plenty filling. My friend also bagged the last cup of mexican spiced hot cider with fruit, which was hot and perfect for a cold day in the flea market, however a tad bit on the sweeter side.

    The only bad side to this is that the food truck is not as accessible as the other well known food trucks around town. I wish it came around more!

    Second time around, I wanted to try something different from the huarache nopales I got the first time I was here.  I settled on a chicken gordita and a chorizo and potato tlacoyitos.

    The tlacoyito was fantastic!  It's a blue corn tortilla with requeson (Mexican-style cheese resembling ricotta) and the sauce had some nice heat to it that blended well with the spicy chorizo.

    In comparison, the pollo gordita was quite bland and boring.  Interesting to see such a sharp contrast ... but I know what I'll be getting next time!

    This is coming from someone who's been burned by them twice already. They've a) moved to a different location during the Outerlands concert without noticing anyone on their website or social media and b) they run out of random dishes.

    TAKE AWAYS:
    - Call in advance to confirm they're in the Alemany Market spot.
    - Their huaraches aren't bad, but at $6, it's kind of steep.

    The food is good, but for the hassle and the drive down south? Methinks not. I'd rather stick to Chinatown/Mission.

    Interesting taste. I really like the texture of the pita/bread that they use, but I wish they had more variety with the toppings. Either way, it's a good thing to try.

    Absolutely Delish Sopes!

    To me, this food stand was the star of the show @ On The Grid - Ft. Mason.  After trying out trendy fusion this 'n that from a variety of vendors at On The Grid, I came to the inescapable conclusion that the Sopes I had here ranked at the top of all the terrific foods that I experienced at OtG this past Friday.

    The Sopes were fresh, with a wonderfully thick texture to the tortillas, and the choice of Alambre as my meat choice (bacon, chorizo, beef, onions & bell pepper) was so very incredibly delectable.  I think I could have eaten five of these, if my money didn't run out!

    I will defiinitely seek out El Huarache Loco wherever they will be in the future.  Stalking?? No, just hungry.  =)

    I've now had the Huaraches from El Huarache Loco twice, and, though I enjoyed them both times, I was not competely wowed by them.  The first time, I had the Huarache with cactus salad at the Eat Real Festival at Jack London Square last year.  I thought the Huarache was quite good, crispy on the outside and tender inside, and I thought the hot sauce on top was delicious, but I was just not a huge fan of the cactus salad, which is what they were supposed to be famous for.  I've had better cactus other places, I think.

    I went to the Alemany Farmer's Market a few weeks ago, and I had another Huarache, this time with mole and eggs.  The eggs were nicely cooked, with a nice runny yolk.  The mole was good, but not great, and we probably could've used a bit more of it.  The Huarache also wasn't as well cooked as it was the first time I had it, and it wasn't the most visually pleasing thing.  Again, I liked it, but didn't love it.

    It looks like, from the reviews, that I've missed out on the other stuff -- especially the tacos -- and so I'll probably give the place another try next time.

    OVERALL:4.2   FOOD:4.5   SERVICE:4   AMBIANCE: N/A   VALUE:4
    Loco lines for the loco Tacos Alambres and....the muchos huaraches locos!! These crazy patties take all the joys of empanadas, tacos, & burritos and combine them into a Mexican comfort-food epiphany: behold The Huarache!

    Total mayhem around the SF St Food booth, but sooo worth the utter confusion and the fleeting moment of panic when *OMG THAT DUDE IS GONNA NAB MY HUARAC--oh, teehee...that's for ME?  Thanks!*

    Whew.  Now that I gots the food, let's TALKS about the food!  Gotta say, the Alambres are the most memorable non-fish/shrimp tacos I've had.  Could have something to do with the bacon that's in there....Maybe.  And also the sauted onion + peppers, like a Mexican Philly cheesesteak!  Huaraches were soft and well-stuffed w/fragrant refried beans, then topped w/tangy cactus salad, aromatic cilantro, smooth queso fresco + sassy orange salsa....pretty impressive for mass-produced street food, Miz Veronica Salazar! Damn, these babies need some more Yelp love!

    Found these guys at Off the Grid in Fort Mason a few weeks ago. We tried the squash blossom, mushroom huarache - yum, yum, yum, yum. Wish I was eating one right now.

    We tried them simply because there was no line and I was intrigued by squash blossom - great success! Look forward to trying them again very soon.

    4 stars I guess it depends on what you order haha

    It has been about 3-4 weeks since I last tried this place but I still remember the taste of there lamb tacos. only few places I have been to are able to make a decent taco, this vendor is actually one of them, Their lamb taco is easily one of the best taco's i've had in a long time, there are spots that make the regular carne asada(beef) and carnitas(pork) tacos that I frequent but this place takes first place for their lamb tacos, super juicy, lil gamey and for lamb that is hard to do, pretty solid mix of flavors on a tortilla.

    I would definitely visit this spot again for some of there lamb tacos

    I am so sad but after finding GLASS in my food here I don't think I can ever go back. EVER. I just don't understand how something like this could happen in the food service ever. Accidents happen but something like this?

    I have been going to the farmers market for a long time. I started to frequent El Huarache Loco just this last year and it is so so good. The line was always so long and being an early bird (8am) at the farmers market Tacos just didn't seem like a great idea. I like the other stuff they have but the Lamb Tacos are delicious.
    Until today!  I hate to be the type of Yelper that eats at a place until I find something I don't like and then start to hurl critical bricks of review, the fact is I like the food, the service is good for a tent and the price is not so bad. But I found glass in my Lamb Taco and I can never ever go back there again. I understand a bit of human hair now and then, its gross but I can see a reasonable explanation for a bug or hair. This was a strait up chunk and some chard's of clear glass. I don't even understand how something like that could happen at a restaurant a food truck or a street vendor.

    7 x 7 loves them. Yelpers love them. I just can't bring myself to love fried dough topped with refried beans and greasy veggies. Just because it's an oily mess doesn't make it good.

    The hibicus flower drink was delish! Tasted kind of bittery sweet. A nice treat from Mexico @ Farmers market!

    el huarache loco at alemany had a short line.

    menu: mexican street food: empanadas,  gorditas, huarache,  tacos,
    tlacoyitos con requeson, tostada, quesadilla, pambazo ...note all items available all the time.

    sampling:
    lamb tacos (3.50) lots of lammie tastes on fresh flatbread like tortilla. with cilanto, cheese, onions. very tasty
    -beef gordita (5). lots of beef ala cubed ground beef,  some chewy with cilanto, cheese, onions ,on a spongy tortilla like bread. meat dry, not so tasty.

    frijoles refritos:
    -food not consistent.
    -had their tacos at another locale, it was fab!
    -cashier not totallly cognizant of prices of items. stay alert.

    Huh. In this city, you can never be 100% sure what's hype and what's not. Glad I was wrong this time around: the huaraches here are in fact, for all their sandal-sole-inspired glory, really excellent. And the market in general is a nice dose of happiness all around; definitely check it out. The hours seem to be "dawn to dusk" on Saturdays and 7:00 to 3:00 on Sundays (according to the market websites) but who knows how accurate this is.

    I was raised on a Texas ranch with a Mexican cook so I know a thing or two about good Mexican food. If you want the real deal, Veronica serves up the gold star tastes of Mexico.

    I met her through La Cocina Community Kitchens and photographed her food for her. (I am a professional food photographer. Don't you just hate me?) What an incredible experience. She kept pushing food at me and it was so good I was afraid I would eat until I died.

    Drive, bus, cycle, walk or run to the Alemany Farmers Market (100 Alemany at Putnam) for a taste of the real deal.

    ::Food::
    Anything on the menu with "hand made" tortilla is bound to be down right delicious.  Use that rule as your guide and you really can't go wrong here.

    Quesadilla does not have a hand made tortillas, but the hearty grilled vegetables more than make up for it.

    ::Salsa::
    Only had the verde but it was good.  A bit too watery for me, but still good.

    ::Beverages::
    Fresh watermelon juice was good, I prefer sweeter, but it was good.  They had horchata which I some how did not get...

    ::Atmosphere::
    probably best in the morning... I went later on a Sunday where there was no produce, just a very sad flea market... not so great.  Also, this area gets incredibly windy.

    ::General::
    I'll be back to try more yummy snacks!

    Dios Mio!

    Went to a $100/head food event which featured dishes by eight of the trendiest restaurants in the City.  El Huarache Loco was invited to help showcase (food incubator) La Cocina.

    This was a top notch event with some really cutting edge cuisine prepared directly by the head chef at each restaurant. It was all spectacular...but as the night progressed, it was El Huarache Loco that had the longest line!

    They served an incredible chipotle chicken taco on a crispy tortilla.  Simple, authentic Mexico DF and just absolutely delicious.  I had four of them!  Veronica is incredibly sweet and endearing, too.

    On a night filled with fantastic food and star studded chefs, El Huarache Loco was absolutely the star of the evening!

    I'd never even heard of a tlacoyito until this past Saturday morning (and as a Tucson native I consider myself well-versed in the area of Mexican food) but I was most definitely in heaven as I consumed mine con carne. It's been approximately 36 hours since that indulgence took place, and every few minutes I lapse into momentary bliss just recalling the harmonious blend of salsa verde, cilantro, cheese and steak masterfully dancing across my taste buds.

    As if my two full grocery bags of flavorful, fresh, local produce for under $10 wasn't enough incentive to return to the farmer's market next week--and the next, and the next, and the next--I can't wait to sink my longing teeth into something else drenched in their PERFECT salsa.

    Also gonna try their chorizo. And the Mexican coffee. And probably everything else.

    Oh El Huarache Loco, why are you only at the Alemany Farmers Market?

    Let me tell you a little something about the huarache with cactus salad. Oh my. I've never had a huarache before, but it's basically like dough stuffed with beans and fried. It's ok, but no pupusa. But the cactus salad is the star of the show. I don't think I've had anything quite like it. Tasty, spicy, and full of flavor.

    I also had a chance to try the carne asada taco, which was pretty tasty as well. Top it off with a horchata and I was in heaven... if it weren't a cold and windy SF day.

    Sunday morning and I'm ready for desayuno Mexicano. Since moving to SF from the south Santa Clara Valley I have to say I've been somewhat dissappointed in the Mexican food places I have been to. That's not to say I haven't had good food.  Just Americanized or Salvadoreanized or whatever. I have been looking for the food of my travels to Mexico. Alas, I have found such a place! At the Alemany Farmer's Market no less.  It figures.  Who knew?

    Just looking at the menu let us know we were at the right place.  Huaraches, gorditas, tlacoyitas oh my! Did I mention quesadillas with Huitlacoche? My mouth was watering as I glanced down at the big bottea of Horchata.

    Their version of Huaraches and gorditas are big, as in one each is all we could hanldle. Mi esposa and I both ordered the papa con chorizo Huarache (potatoes and chorizo), hold the sour cream, grrrrr. Anne had Salsa Verde, I chose Salsa Rojo.  The oblong corn torlilla comes filled with refried beans with the other stuff on top, chorizo, potatoes, onions, cilantro etc. Very good, both salsas were excellent.
    I didn't have room for the Alambre Gordito...that will be lunch.

    I asked about menudo and was informed they make it on weekends sometimes, along with other caldos (soups).  She was not sure what would be made next week. You can be sure I will be there to find out. I'm ready to graze across their menu.

    Props to John A., our Tejano brother for peaking my interest to try this place. You take pictures of food?  I sell food in San Francisco.  Life is  good. We may need to sit down and do some serious eating sometime!

    Hmmm... delicious, freshly made tacos, huaraches, and just darn good stick to the guy morning food after shopping for your produce (or to fortify you for the shopping ahead).

    The wait is longer than I like  - lots of people eat there and they make your food fresh.  I really dig the tacos there, very flavorful without being ridiculously oily or drenched in salsa.

    I've gotten the huarache con nopales and the squash blossom quesadilla. Must be something about how they use the masa because both the huarache and handmade quesadilla tortilla were very tasty.

    On the huarache, the nopales had an acidic bite to them, which I like. If you don't like the pickle-y flavor, I'd stay away.

    The quesadilla was not flat but more like a soft taco. The filling of the quesadilla was very flavorful with red sauce, squash blossom, a little cheese and a little sour cream. It didn't taste fatty like how guac-sour cream-cheese combos can be sometimes.

    I went here from the 7x7 list recommendation and this one was a winner! This is authentic Mexican food.  The Hurache with Cactus Salad was great but so was the Quesadilla and my favorite was actually the Mexico City style taco which had Carne Asada, peppers, onions and a fried egg on top...amazing!

    My only complaints is having to go all the way to the farmers market to get to this place.  I sure wish they were located in the city.

    hence, the shape of that dough stuffed thing sitting underneath the cactus salad.  the line wasn't too bad for this food cart at off the grid.  it's on the 7x7 list so we thought what the heck, we need to try #59.

    well, i was pretty disappointed.  i don't understand how out of all the yummy things you can find in sf, this was #59.  the salad tasted super fresh...but everything just didn't come together right.  the onions were incredibly overpowering...and i barely saw any cacti.

    I ventured into the Marina for the SF Food Cart Fest last Friday.  Why on earth is it over on this freezing side of town is beyond me.  By the time we got there, the place was overflowing with a mixture of hipsters, older Marinaites and young Marinaites forming lines that snaked on twenty people deep.  Strangely enough, there was no line for the amazing squash blossom, mushroom topped huaraches.  Hands down the best thing we had at this Marina mosh pit.

    The huarache kind of reminds me of a pupusa. It was nicely fried and filled with beans. The thing that makes it good is the cactus salad. It has a nice tang from the acid which I am guessing is vinegar. The cheese that is mixed in is another great addition. It's something different to try; I am not sure I would go out of my way for it though.

    It's all about the huaraches con nopales...you gotta try them! I go on Sundays for the flea market and they're usually one of the only food vendors there. $4 breakfast, man! SO GOOD!

    Great authentic mexican food.  We tried the huarache and the tacos!  It was yummy!  I liked the fact that it was aunthentic and the people were super nice there.  YAY!

    I had never even heard of a Huarache until I came here! This stand is located at the Alemany Farmers' Market (open Saturday mornings) and it's pretty delish! The Huarache with eggs & chorizo is yummy, and the texture of the tortilla is chewy and just right. They also have Tlacoyito's and a bunch of other choices on their menu, which I've never heard of or tried, but sounds interesting. The Huarache's are a must try.

    As a card carrying Mexican I'm here to tell you that this is some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. The mole and eggs huarache..the cured beef taco..Great service too. Too bad it means having to brave the horrible parking of the Farmers Market.
