I had a great dinner here last night! Get the carnitas al pastor and ask for a side of pico... I will say that you have to really love mexican food and I am so use to real street mexican food from the places in Santa Ana that it takes me back to the day... the place is a bit rough( ok.. its really needs a make over) but if you want the real deal.. try this place...
thanks for the pico!

Tried some of Ben's carne huarache was yum it had hot cheese and beans stuffed in the tortilla. I had a cactus-topped tlacoyito was yum, who knew cactus taste good? Like green pepper. The food looks like small portions but its surprisingly filling.
The hibicus flower drink was delish! Tasted kind of bittery sweet. A nice treat from Mexico @ Farmers market!
I was raised on a Texas ranch with a Mexican cook so I know a thing or two about good Mexican food. If you want the real deal, Veronica serves up the gold star tastes of Mexico.
I met her through La Cocina Community Kitchens and photographed her food for her. (I am a professional food photographer. Don't you just hate me?) What an incredible experience. She kept pushing food at me and it was so good I was afraid I would eat until I died.
Drive, bus, cycle, walk or run to the Alemany Farmers Market (100 Alemany at Putnam) for a taste of the real deal.
#59 on the 7x7 List: Huarache with cactus salad
-Tasty? The nopales here has a crunchy texture...lay it on the huarache flat boat - makes it a new Mexican food experience for me
-Service: First-come, first-served. You're welcome to practice your Spanish, haha.
-Ambiance: It's on the street...it's at the Alemany Farmer's Market on Saturdays...
-Worth the trip/try? Parking is a pain but once you do score that sweet parking, take some time and walk around the other booths!
IMPORTANT NOTICE !!!!!
The Alemany farmers market has decided to remove all of the food vendors from the market. If you are a fan of All Star Tamales, or El Huarache Loco, or countless others - YOU MUST ACT NOW -

this is my saturday morning habit - my wife buys groceries, and she can always find me at huarache… Read more »
El Huarache Loco is my Saturday morning reward after shopping at the Alemany Farmers Market in Bernal. This is one of the most popular food stands at the farmers market and everything is delicious. Among my favorites:
The chilaquiles with a fried egg on the top. Chiliquiles are a kind of casserole of stale tortillas and tomatillo salsa and broth and the yolk from the fried egg mixed with it all in pools of wonderfulness!
The goat stew!
The duck and mole on huaraches. Rich, savory, and delicious!
They have the usual aguas frescas, also lovely and not overly sweet.
Don't miss it! And while you're there, check out the farmers market, which has an especially excellent selection of chinese and filipino greens and vegetables. And is way way cheaper than Certain Other More Famous farmers markets....
::Food::
Anything on the menu with "hand made" tortilla is bound to be down right delicious. Use that rule as your guide and you really can't go wrong here.
Quesadilla does not have a hand made tortillas, but the hearty grilled vegetables more than make up for it.
::Salsa::
Only had the verde but it was good. A bit too watery for me, but still good.
::Beverages::
Fresh watermelon juice was good, I prefer sweeter, but it was good. They had horchata which I some how did not get...
::Atmosphere::
probably best in the morning... I went later on a Sunday where there was no produce, just a very sad flea market... not so great. Also, this area gets incredibly windy.
::General::
I'll be back to try more yummy snacks!
Oh boy!
I tried an egg and chorizo huarache with Felicia C. down there and it was pretty delicious. I am definitely willing to try their other stuff. I'll be honest though, the other Mexican food stand next to this place serves Pupusa, and I think it's a little better.
2 bucks for a heaping pile of cactus salad topped with fresh cheese and salsa verde. can't say much more other than this is one tasty and cheap meal. ingredients all tasted fresh, and the salsa verde was spicy but not mouth scorchingly so, good stuff. it doesn't get much better than this. service was quick and friendly.
I'd never even heard of a tlacoyito until this past Saturday morning (and as a Tucson native I consider myself well-versed in the area of Mexican food) but I was most definitely in heaven as I consumed mine con carne. It's been approximately 36 hours since that indulgence took place, and every few minutes I lapse into momentary bliss just recalling the harmonious blend of salsa verde, cilantro, cheese and steak masterfully dancing across my taste buds.
As if my two full grocery bags of flavorful, fresh, local produce for under $10 wasn't enough incentive to return to the farmer's market next week--and the next, and the next, and the next--I can't wait to sink my longing teeth into something else drenched in their PERFECT salsa.
Also gonna try their chorizo. And the Mexican coffee. And probably everything else.
Why did it take me so long to discover the Alambre (Mexican city style) taco??? Beef, pepper, onion and cheese all grilled to perfection. Placed on 2 corn tortillas, topped with hot salsa and a squeeze of lime. Who knew that you can get pure bliss for just $2.75.

Love, love, love the food here. Crispy, chewy gordita that is perfect with spicy salsa. Perfectly al… Read more »
the taco de barbacoa (that's lamb, not barbarella's half-brother) on organic blue corn tortilla is out of this world, or at least out of this country. haven't been to mexico, but my brother commented favorably on the food here after a visit to mexico city last year.
when they ask "everything on it?", just say yes.
Hmmm... delicious, freshly made tacos, huaraches, and just darn good stick to the guy morning food after shopping for your produce (or to fortify you for the shopping ahead).
The wait is longer than I like - lots of people eat there and they make your food fresh. I really dig the tacos there, very flavorful without being ridiculously oily or drenched in salsa.
I had never even heard of a Huarache until I came here! This stand is located at the Alemany Farmers' Market (open Saturday mornings) and it's pretty delish! The Huarache with eggs & chorizo is yummy, and the texture of the tortilla is chewy and just right. They also have Tlacoyito's and a bunch of other choices on their menu, which I've never heard of or tried, but sounds interesting. The Huarache's are a must try.
It's all about the huaraches con nopales...you gotta try them! I go on Sundays for the flea market and they're usually one of the only food vendors there. $4 breakfast, man! SO GOOD!
Relative newcomer to the Farmer's Market, but these guys know what they're doing. Their setup is well thought out and they have a great looking menu. Tacos de Alhambre can't be beat. I tell myself I gotta try something else, but I just can't. After a Friday night of binge drinking, these things set me right. Hell, half the time I go the market is just to eat one. My recommendation, chase it down with some apple juice from the pink lady apple vendor just opposite.
hella good. their food here is str8 LOLin me. definately good "Mexican People" food (as opposed to mexican food). this place makes the flea market even more awesome.
They may have the best gorditas in town. I have tried all kinds of different meat combinations and they never failed to impress me early on Saturday mornings. I sometimes buy their orange salsa to bring home and use it on chicken or grilled beef or make my own quessadillas with handmade tortilla I buy from a mexican market. Ah... it is so good.
