I like this location more for a few reasons:
1. They accept credit cards.
2. It's not freezing cold at all times like the mission st. location.
3. They are more prompt about cleaning the tables.
Recommended: Regular chorizo burrito + sour cream.
also Super veggie nachos.
The only thing I don't like is that they charge .50 for chips and white hipsters beware, if you are drunk , you may get gringo taxed. I seen it!
Words cannot describe my LOVE for el Farolito. This one in particular, is my favorite. although in a pinch the one on 24th and mission will do.
My only problem is that I live so far from this heavenly taqueria!
SO cheap! SO good! SOOO much food!!!!!
I like the al pastor on or in everything.
The Nachos are enough to feed an army for a few days.....not really but more than enough for one!
Very bright inside.
A really drunk guy being really drunk.
Maybe the best taco value ever - two large for I think $2 bucks?... That doesn't seem right, but I think it is??
The salsa verde is outstanding - cilantro and I swear a little minty.
I don't know, the whole thing seems a little foggy to me now thirty minutes later...I must be in a taco stupor.
I don't know what happened to this place. It USED to be soo good.
I was very disappointed when they ripped me off on my chile relleno burrito. Strips of green chile is not a chile relleno! Back in the days they would put an ENITRE chile relleno in a chile relleno burrito! I'm sad to say somewhere something went wrong....

Love this place. Been coming here since I was a kid. The best taqueria in the Mission.
Easily THE BEST Burritos I've ever had. You keep hearing about how The Mission has the best Burritos. Well, this is the place everyone is talking about. Forget about Pancho Villa and their TV Commercials. Forget about Taqueria Cancun and their awards. Forget about Taqueria La Cumbre and their appearance on the Travel Channel. All of their burritos pale in comparison to the greatness that is El Farolito. Just look at the lines at each of these locations, and you tell me which burrito is king. There is no comparison. Now, stop reading my review, and go out to The Mission and get yourself an El Farolito Burrito. My favorite, the carnitas. So very tasty.
Thank goodness for cheap food. We had a reg and a super burrito for under $11. Very meaty and included good ass chips. They have a salsa bar which is great. Too bad I have to go far. the one buy my house is good but $8 for a super burrito is Ridiculous. We will be back again and again and again.
5 stars for the following:
Variety
location
the hours (open till 4 am)
the prices are unbeatable
I prefer the carnitas over all the other meat choices here...if you are a vegan, they cater to your granola, lemon grass eating, hummus sucking asses too!!!! so come on in, on a late night, late morning, or afternoon....this little joint has always satisfied my craving....you get BIG for the $$$ here....it's ridiculously cheap compared to other places in SF!!!
There's nothing I love more than a heaping scoop of anything- especially when that heaping scoop contains any of the following ingredients wrapped inside a tortilla to form the size of Ron Jerem...I mean, my forearm: sour cream, avocado, meat, meat, meat, and cheese. If you're on the weight watchers points diet, this is about 5,345,231,1238 points.
Highlights and lowlights include: lots of drunk people with drunkchies, one really beyond wasted drunk person, and nice employees with a high tolerance for all of the above.
In summary, nice people, good food, large portions, yum.
My experience today wasn't as good as it usually is. We phoned our order in, and when the gofer got there, they'd not even started.
My nachos sadly lacked today. Very little meat, but plenty of sour cream and lots of avocado made up for it. The only problem is that the tortilla chips get soggy too fast but that's the way of the chip.
I've had very good luck with the tacos and burritos so it looks like that'll be what I'll be ordering. We didn't have our usual gofer tonight, so, maybe the fact that she's been eating there for a decade or so probably has something to do with the varying quality. Its always very clean, too.
Its still a great place to fill a drunken tummy with, though.

Can I give more than 5 stars???
I tried the super burrito with grilled chicken two nights ago and omg- it was the best burrito I have ever tried. I'm truly amazed with this taqueria.
Would I drive from San Bruno to the Mission just to eat here at 11pm after work? Oh yes I would : )

BEST BURRITO in SF
Two words: QUESADILLA SUIZA
I am not kidding when I say this is the biggest quesadilla you will ever see in your life. IT IS GIGANTIC. Our friend warned me and Matt J. that one person really shouldn't and can't finish one of these big boys by themselves, but we didn't listen and of course ordered that and chips and a couple tacos ha ha Man, were we stuffed to the max!!
But that quesadilla suiza is what makes me dream of returning to CA everyday now that I live in Boston. Cheap, amazing Mexican food is what keeps me yearning to leave Boston and return to the land of Mexican food. This quesadilla suiza is so flavorful, and is packed with meat and cheese and spices, and salsa, and their hot salsa is actually hot!!! Which is the way it should be!! And their tacos are fantastic too! I could eat here every day if I wasn't worried about getting fat, but getting fat off of Mexican food this tasty, cheap, and finger licking good wouldn't be the worst thing in the world!!!! ha ha
The only down side to this place that will definitely give you the most Mexican food bang for your buck and some of the more authentic Mexican food too, especially for a place that is open late night!!! is that their chips really are not good. So don't pay extra to get them. A) you won't have room to eat them, and B) they are not flavorful or good really. And there isn't a bathroom here either, so come prepared for that!
Don't forget about this El Farolito!
I thought the Alambres plate here was slightly better tasting (maybe I was hungrier?), but that being said, I thought the other one was also phenomenal.
This one is a bit cleaner and more spacious, AND they take credit cards, which is +2 points in my book.
The portions are equally HUGE here too.
In sum, for food--both El Farolitos are great. The one on Mission is always more crowded and you get some shady characters, but you won't miss out on interesting people watching at the 24th and Alabama one, either, as demonstrated by the crazy man that stood around ranting for 5 min as we were waiting for our food...
I was craving some good ol cheap Mexican food, and I stumbled upon this gem on Yelp. Thanks to Yelp again!
If you are looking for a cheap hearty FREAKIN DELICIOUS Mexican food, then El Farolito's burritos will definitely fulfill your cravings at basically any time of the day.
It's open late, which is the best part :)
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
This joint is crazy. I don't like the setup of waiting to order, waiting to pay, all in the front and it clogs up the entrance. The meat is pretty good but SUPER FILLING... the portions are out of control.
2 people can split a carne asada burrito, for real!
The guys are nice though at this place... Good for a late night spot even though you're going to wait forever with all the drunkers looking for food... but if you haven't tried it, then it's a must if you're in the mish.
Minus one star for charging for chips. But plus one star for taking credit cards. So it's a wash there.
Affordable... pretty damn good food. There is a reason why the Carne Asada burrito is mentioned in 50+ reviews... it's damn good. I grew up in San Diego and therefore feel qualified to judge such things. Most taquerias up here, I poo-poo. This one is no Alberto's or Rodrigo's (San Diego institutions) but considering we're 400 miles from the border, this is where I'd go.
More bonus points for being open LATE.
If you are on a diet, here's the trick: get your food "for here." The human wreckage that flocks to the place will make you lose your appetite halfway through your burrito. And you'll debate taking it home, but realize it won't be as good later, so you ditch it.
The late-night weirdos that come in here are something else. At least there are usually cops here on a break, so I feel reasonably safe. But the drunk schizos are here in full force. And although they don't REALLY bother you, they will try to talk to you.
Seriously, what is it about me that says "Please please PLEASE come fuck with this guy who is just trying to eat a burrito"?
The food is good and super affordable. I got chip, salsa, a large carne asada burrito and flan for under $10! Now that's a price I can't argue with.
However don't be fooled by the advertised wifi. First off you need a credit card to access it. However the really problem is that it's really unreliable! I was the only person in the entire restaurant trying to access it and still couldn't get a strong signal!
While the staff is friendly and efficient, they did nothing to remove the drunk non paying customers from the joint which made the whole experience very uncomfortable. I was followed around by a drunk guy that wouldn't leave me alone until I left.
My burrito was great, flan was okay, price was perfect, but I'm not sure I'd go back!
Saturday evening. Craving some good ol' Mexican food in the Mission District... decided El Farolito was the way to go. Oh, but which one?! Well, seeing as how the majority of people who frequent the spot on 24th/Mission are drunk, we headed to this location instead.
I ordered a regular burrito with carne asada and some sour cream. This thing is a monster of a burrito! Not sure how much I enjoyed it - was a bit dry, carne asada a bit tough. Had about half of it, and was stuffed. It's chock full of rice and beans (I suppose what a burrito is usually made of... ) and tastes kinda bland so I soaked it in their spicy green (avocado?) sauce. Anyhow, it wasn't amazingly good, but it did the job.
On a sidenote, this place was pretty empty, clean and the soccer game playing on their TV was insanely loud.
I've been here a few times and though i haven't been to too many Mexican restaurants, i have to say this is one of my favorites.
The food, in my opinion, when compared to Gordo's, tastes better. The meat, especially the carne asada and lengua (cow tongue), is tender, juicy, and tasty. I love the soft shell tacos there.
The service here is also friendly.
If you feel daring, you could try a taco or burrito with their cow brains or cow head too!
The food is fairly decent, but I think the workers need to take another course on proper food handling.
So, I'm waiting for my food and I see that the guy handling the chips wasn't wearing any gloves...I then see him eating the chips out of the box while putting the chips into the baskets. And then....HE COUGHS INTO HIS HAND. But what does he do instead of washing his hands? He just wipes it on his dirty jeans and sticks his hand back into the box of chips. He also decided to re-tie his shoes during his chip duties. Didn't wash his hands then either.
After watching this I decided that I didn't want any chips, and was seriously debating on whether I wanted the rest of the food I ordered. I ate my food anyway, but I don't think I'll be coming back here again.
This is my favourite of the el farolitos!
yummmmm.
carne asada!
quesadilla suiza!
burritos!
beer!
:)
Sure, their ultra bright tables do hurt the eyes a bit and the place isn't quite so pine sol fresh, but they do make some damn good food. For cheap. And who doesn't love that now? :)
Whenever I go here I either have to have a quesadilla or something with chorizo in it and I absolutely must load up on the green tomatillo sauce. Get a horchata to wash everything down and you're good to go! And all just for a measly $5? Awesomeness!~ :D
(I did however take away a star because once I found a hair in my flan.... )
Best. Burritos. Ever.
I've been going here for 16 years. When I moved away from the Bay Area and back to NY for a four years, this was always the very first place I stopped after picking up my rental car at the airport.
A number of friends have challenged me to a comparison of favorite burrito shops. After going to El Farolito on 24th @ Alabama (there's more than one, but they're not exactly the same), more often than not they don't bother bringing me to their favorite place. The taste of victory is nearly as scrumptious as the burrito itself.
An El Farolito boiled chicken super burrito without cheese is one of my top ten favorite foods in all of San Francisco, regardless of price. There are $50-100/person restaurants I've been to whose food isn't nearly as tasty as the almighty El Farolito boiled chicken super burrito.
I take no stars away for the tacky furniture or dinginess of the dining area because this is a burrito joint, not Boulevard. And I've never once gotten sick from eating here in 16 years, so the place is clearly clean enough in the kitchen, where it matters.
Despite being 1.5 blocks from my house, Farolito is not my taqueria of choice. The burritos? Not a fan! Way too much rice. Is it really necessary for my burrito to be bigger than my face and weigh over 3 pounds? Quality over quantity for this petite one. I also have to knock Farolito for their lack of speed. Considering this is one of the more popular places in the mission, I'm surprised they haven't figured out a better assembly line system. The 24th and Mission location is even worse but best case, with the place empty, you still wait a good 10 minutes. Their one saving grace? The quesadilla super suiza is bomb. Stumble home from the bar and this is your spot, both the night of and the following morning for that hangover. Carne asada is the way to go, packed with cheese, sour cream, avocado, and lots and lots of calories!
This place is almost always crowded, but for good reason. Awesome burritos that are big enough for two meals! Prices are reasonable with the exception of the Mexican sodas and other beverages. Perfect food for late night munching or a morning hangover cure.
If you're in the area check it out and make sure you're hungry!
Good food here but seems to be a little bit of a step down from the location on the corner of 24th & Mission.
The prices seem to be higher, as well. Ick!
Probably the only better aspect is cleanliness and better atmosphere in this location.
Strange that there's the other Farolito just a few blocks away.... I definitely prefer that one (it's probably the one you should go to, too!).
Try that one's shrimp burritos!
Mmmmm!
I've been away from SF for over a year. I used to live in the Mission District so I have eaten a LOT of Mexican food. There's good Mexican where I live now but I am enamored with the Mission District, its people, and its food. It's like the whole package and coming from super white bread Southern Oregon it's the closest I've come to leaving the country in quite some time. I mean, when you order a burrito in Southern Oregon it's not wrapped so tight that nary a bean will fall out like it is in SF. And they serve burritos with forks in Oregon. DO YOU HEAR ME? They serve burritos with forks. It's crazy talk!
When I arrived in SF two weeks ago the first thing I did was get a super veggie burrito from El Farolito. These guys are fast, efficient, and delicious.
*La Corneta also has a great sweaty veggie burrito but El Farolito wins the contest for me since their burritos come with avocado instead of guacamole without me having to ask.*
Their burritos are huge, warm and full of yummy flavors. I'm pretty sure their rice has chicken broth in it *looks other way* or else it's just magically delicious. They've got a nice pico de gallo, too, and all this is wrapped up in a slightly crisp tortilla (not sweaty - which is also delicious). The results is a mix of hot beans and rice and cold crema Mexicana and salsa, savory and slightly sweet flavors that makes me deliriously happy all for about $6.00.
COOTZ OUT!
I definitely prefer this location over the one at 24th and Mission. Their portions are bigger, their al pastor is divine, and they take plastic. There seems to be a lower density of drunks here at any given time as compared to the 24th and Mission location.
Took 1 star away though because of the tacky furniture and the cleanliness of the dining area. Mind you, it's not abhorriously filthy but they could be a little more attentive to it. And the seating looks like what would be available at restaurants in my own personal hell...just saying this because other people may not mind...but it's my personal preference. Otherwise, this place is totally worth it!
This place has so many reviews that this is more of a note to myself:
1) Go back again, this time in a more chipper, less hung over mood
2) Order something slightly outside my comfort zone (Dan's tongue burrito was amazing)
3) Don't go one a day when there is an enormous street fair going on
The third time I ate here, I was severely inebriated.
You know what, it kinda tasted good. I don't like the burrito or quesadilla here, but the carnitas taco is actually not too bad if you are at a proper level of intoxication (have it w/ negra modelo to enhance your experience).
*shrug shoulders* eh, not too bad.

It's not the best Mex in this part of the Mission but it is the only place that's always open when I'm walking home drunk from BART.
I got the super nachos which is hella big. Almost frighteningly so.
Again I wouldn't stop here during the day but at 1AM on a weeknight it's a welcome oasis.
Dude, I loved the burrito, but DUDE! it did not love me. 5 minutes after scarfing 3/4 of a super al pastor, I could feel my stomach moving it around like tetris blocks, and let's just say I'm pretty sure I lost. No rows deleted. Game. Over.
Besides that fact, the burrito was amazing, but the chips sucked. Coming from Los Angeles and (duh) other SF taquerias, I'm used to fresh-from-the-fryer golden triangles of heaven. These were more like the Mexican brand at the local Safeway. Pweh.
Ditto on the plastic baggedness for your chip orders....tad wasteful seeing as no one wants to re-use a greasy ass plastic baggy.
I tried out a burrito here, but wasn't really impressed. It tasted like any other burrito, and I can definitely name a few places that are off the main strip of the Mission that are better.
Came here after the line at the other Farolito was well out the door. Probably saved at least an hour, even though we had to walk a few blocks to get here.
Being from San Diego, I talk a lot of shit on SF Mexican food, but this place did not disappoint. Sure the prices are a bit steeper in SF, but from what I experienced, you really get your money's worth.
The super quesadilla suiza or whatever it's called was probably the fattest quesadilla I've ordered. And everything was great. The carne asada tasted like it was actually flame grilled instead of fried, which is never the case down here in SD.
Almost changed my opinion about Northern Californian Mexican food. Almost.
We almost didn't get to eat here b/c the lady with the horrible body odor making our eyes water to no end & killing our appetite quickly.. but me & my bf were SO determined to get some dinner after our ice cream @ Humphrey's.
Being that he's a SF native, he's been trying to get me to go to the Mission for the "best burrito" @ El Farolito, convinced that the Mexican food in Richmond/El Cerrito doesn't compare. They can cook in the East Bay too damnit!!
The burrito was HUGE & cheap =) The tacos & horchata were so good too... never again should we ever eat at chain Mexican places!! Better than my East Bay eats? MAYBEEE.
Went for tacos and a chile relleno plate. Got there mid-afternoon, so it was not crowded, and we got a table right after ordering. By the time we were done, the line had extended into the street.
Seemed like mixed clientele - local Latin crowd, some tourists from around the Bay Area and beyond, and also non-Latin demographic who live in the Mission, Noe Valley, and Bernal Hts. So, this place is not touristy, but seems to have built a following that brings in people from around!
The regular taco ($1.95) plate came with two 2 soft shell tacos, and I got them with carnitas - this was excellent both in taste and quantity. Also, tried the crispy taco (just 1 for $1.95) with chorizo, which was also good. The chile relleno was huge, and came with rice, refried beans, salad, sour cream, and avocado. Again, great taste and lots of food.
Overall, it's terrific value and taste. Don't go for ambiance, but for the food.
I actually don't like most taquerias/Mexican food spots in the city because I feel like I can make way better enchiladas, soft tacos, etc. And no one can beat taco truck prices.
Plus, I greatly dislike the Mission because of the lack of parking.
But this place? Yes. Absolutely. And they're open late? Major bonus points.
Can you believe I've never been here drunk off my ass?
I am in love with their quesadilla suiza. I smother it in quacamole and sour cream and make an evening out of eating this ginormous beast. I just want to take it to bed with me and snuggle it. When you try it you'll know what I'm talking about.
This place will get your arteries clogged in no time. That's healthy, right?
Uh, yeah..so.... I feel like I'm here almost every other day....
Its usually the super veggie or the super carne asada; a nice cold pacifico always complements the omnivores dilemma.
The chips are quite good too, but I only get them if I am with other people because otherwise its just too much food.
I think I'm developing a burrito belly.
