A wonderful escape in the middle of a city.

There is a parking fee, but if you go late and it's not crowded, you may get in for free (either that or the guy at the window has a big crush on me).

When I feel like getting in touch with nature on a whim (without planning and driving far), this is where I go.  I typically pack a lunch, hang out by some trees, read a book and pretend like I'm far from efficiency-driven American city life.  Keep an eye out for the wide variety of water foul that use this as their local hang out.  They're absolutely gorgeous.

I'm still exploring the hikes, so if I have any tips on those, I'll add them later.

Went for a walk here on a weekday.  It's $5 for car entry (was surprised about having to pay!) but free for walk-ins.

Well kept area with neatly manicured grass and green trees.  There is a bike trail that winds around the whole park, and it doubles as a jogging and walking path.  its a pretty big park with a cute little lake in the middle with ducks and other water fowl.  Lots of room for barbeques and family outings.

Overall a nice place, but one thing that I found bothersome was that high-traffic roads/freeway borders this park, and no matter when you go in the park, you hear this constant humming of traffic noise.  Totally not digging that.

I think it's nice here, BUT, I must warn you that the trails are not for beginners -- I got into a pretty bad bike accident here as a not-so-experienced biker, I wasn't nervous on the trail at first, but it was adjacent to the San Gabriel river bank and I ate it as I fell off the trail and crashed to the bottom.  The trails are narrow and surprisingly dangerous.  THEN, after my friend was unable to reach the park ranger, the only help we could get mid trail was the fire dept/paramedics.  SO, my warning is to 1)  wear a helmet when riding!  and 2)  Don't go if you are not experienced!

IMO the best park in Long Beach and the greater south bay area. Archery range, bike tails, a bike path along the San Gabriel river all the way up the Angeles Forest, mature trees, duck ponds, a row boat ponds, a fishing ponds and a model aircraft flying area. A nice place to jog too. I highly recommend this place.

A really nice getaway in the middle of Long Beach. You'd have to drive about 15 miles to find another place to hike if you live in Long Beach.

You will never feel that far from civilization, but this park still is a great escape.

If you want more seclusion, do the 2-mile loop, which is simply too long for most park goers (that is, families with small children). This loop takes you around a large pond, where you can watch ducks and coots doing their business.

There is a very short paved trail which is handicapped accessible. I feel that park went a bit overboard in making this trail accessible (what's with all the railing), but I'd hate to deny those in wheelchairs the opportunity to enjoy this park.  For those able to walk on dirt paths, take the longer trails and grant the disabled a more peaceful park experience.

Another great archery/walking place for me and my sister.

Fun place to be any day to do some outdoor stuff. I like to lay out on a blanket and NOT watch archery. There are state archery competitions here occasionally and I like watching my favorite kind of geese: the Canadian goose.

Entrance fee is $6 on the weekends and you may go in and out.  Bring BBQ and water and an ipod for walknig.

It's so nice and peaceful here I can hardly believe it's in Long Beach. I hate to ride my bike on the streets because of the crazy drivers. Here I only have to watch out for the occasional pedestrian. I only wish I lived closer; it's on the other side of the city.

I ride my bike along the riverbed to get to this place during the spring and summer. Whenever I go here, it's never crowded and I feel like I'm dreaming. The winding roads, the lakes, the birds and trees. It's such a great escape. I'm so glad I live close enough to go to this place whenever I have the time. It's a total freebie of fun.

This is a fun place for a quick hike. I once took a  camp group of 12 year olds and even they had fun. If you walk in and do not park it is free. Make sure to look for all the cute tutles swimming around. I agree it would be better without the paved sections on some trails.

I'm writing about the Nature Center that is located in the eastern portion of the park.  The nature center is one of the few quasi-idyllic locations in Long Beach to explore.  The entrance fee is six dollars and I believe is inclusive of parking and entrance to the other portion of El Dorado East.  There are different trails to walk on buy I prefer the 1 and 2 mile paths that are somewhat enclosed by foliage and trees, very scenic. These trails  lead to encounters with critters if you pay attention on your walk.  Observe the ospreys and hawks, look at a bee hive, laugh at the squirrels, check out the turtles sun bathing, and see some fish in the creek.  For a city boy this place satisfies my small cravings for nature and quiet.  I've heard there are even coyotes here but I've never run into any.  You won't feel lost in solitude though, the walk will reveal power lines and the sound of the 605 freeway.  Emerge from the wild to re-enter civilization in matter of an hour.

This is the huge half of El Dorado Park, covering over 400 acres. It runs along the San Gabriel River from Willow all the way to about Carson. The biggest feature of this part of the park for me is the archery range and the bike path. In the 1984 Olympics in LA the archery events were held here. I think I learned how to roller skate here as well as ride my bike, in addition to arching every Saturday with my family. There are playgrounds and picnic areas, BBQ grills, a large lake where you can fish, boat, etc., and radio-controlled model aircraft and sailboat areas. You can also arrange to get hay rides, pony rides, train rides, and a petting zoo. The hay ride is really fun to do during the holidays. The nature center (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) is also part of this side of the park. Together with the "West" side of the park, El Dorado Park is a great park for families and individuals. Also a decent place to fly a kite. There is an entrance fee - $4 on weekdays, $6 on weekends. Annual passes are also available.
