When it's 1 AM on a Monday night, there is hands down no better place to be in NYC than watching Rev Vince and the Love Choir at Union Pool bring the dirty gospel magic. And when it's the 1:15 set break, there is no better place to be than the El Diablo truck with red stripes (plural) in hand, chorizo tacos with homemade hot sauce, and their dynamite chips and queso.

I have been known to kill an entire order of queso. You can't put parameters on what is possible. It's a mantra I live by, and it certainly applies here.

They throw together some decent tacos and It's very cool that they operate in the backyard of a Billyburg bar, but I'm not sure if they'd be worthy of a journey if parked alone on a street under the subway in Queens/BK.  Just saying.

    A-OK, but I've become a taco snob :)

    Legit.

In the "back yard" of a bar/venue - genius! Grab a drink, grab a taco and chill by the bonfire.

I had already eaten dinner but I knew I had to try a NYC Taco truck! Went with the beef basic and it was delicious. The beef was actual strips of beef, not ground beef and cooked perfectly. The salsa and tortilla were so fresh! And so inexpensive!

Def stop by, you won't be disappointed.

Was so excited to try this place due to the reviews.

Had al pastor tacos and beef? tacos.  These are the most expensive truck tacos in williamsburg.  The tacos were so dry.  Maybe they taste really good at 2 am plastered.

Going back to tacos moreles from now on.

Just went here two days ago. So good.

I got guacamole and the serving was huge. You get a huge cup of guacamole and a ton of chips for $4.

The tacos are just a bit small for the price, but they were awesome.

In the back yard of the Union Pool, just stuck in the mud, sits the El Diablo Taco truck. Perfection. Like you can't leave the bar and there is the fire pit right there and serving up some really tasty fish tacos (over-priced for what you get but good none the less) is El Diablo. Love it. Squeeze on some lime and eliminate. And Coke bottled in Mexico, you know they use real cane sugar instead of hydrogenated corn syrup right. Tis good. If every bar with long ass lines for the bathroom had a taco truck, it would certainly add another star. Also waiting for the tacos for some odd reason always introduces good conversation. Weird but whatever ... El Diablo is great. It makes Union Pool worth going to.

The guacamole serving is perfect to split between two people :) and I really liked the veggie and the shrimp tacos that I got.

Bonus: the bar serves margaritas out of a slushy machine

Anti-bonus: pool = stagnant water = a few friendly mosquitos

Very good food. I ordered the special for the night - 2 taco's (one chicken + one veggie) for $5 instead of $6. It was delicious. The mixture of tomato, onion, and sauces they used made it great.

I was nearby at Barcade for a birthday party when one of my friends suggested we go to the "taco truck". I thought it was going to be a truck parked on the street like you find all over the city. Nope. She took me to a bar where I was carded at the door. I followed her to the back where, to my surprise, was an actual truck surving tacos out of the side of it. Fantastic.
I ordered one pork and one chicken taco. BEST tacos that I have had in NYC as of yet. The meat was super juicy and flavorful and the mixture of the meat with the sauces that they put on top, absolute heaven. Some Yelpers feel that you have to be drunk to eat here, but I don't drink alcohol and had only consumed water and a strawberry smoothie before coming to the truck. The tacos are out of this world, yes, even sober.
$3 and $4 per taco, which is pretty normal I suppose. I've had cheaper, yes, but they were not nearly as good as these.

They're always delicious, but even White Castle is delicious when you're drunk. And when have you had these when you weren't drunk? Exactly.

Now, I'm not saying these are not much better quality than White Castle, because they are. Alls I'm sayin' is I can't judge accurately until I have one sober...as if that is ever going to happen.

I love the concept of a taco truck. The oppressive rules in the town that I call home (Toronto) prohibit the sale of anything that's not street meat if it's on wheels and doesn't have a fixed address, so seeing El Diablo truck camped out at the back of Union Pool was a real treat.

I ordered a pair of fish tacos for practically free, and while they were light on fish but heavy on onions (wah) I was too busy shovelling the creamiest guac this world has ever seen into my drooling maw. Seriously, I think there was actual butter mixed in with the avocado. I dunno. It was that creamy and addictive. The accompanying chips were salty as fuck, just the way I like 'em.

    Delicious.

Since my girlfriend has lived in Brooklyn, I have been trying my hardest to try all kinds of different places including food trucks. I have had delicious gyros, thai food, and burgers. However, the food that always gets me is Mexican. I made my way over to Taqueria el Fogon for lunch one day, and it was very good, but I was still looking for more. I have heard about Tortilleria Mexicana Los Hermanos being the best, yet I haven't made my way over.

So now you know my back story of taco's, I can begin my review of El Diablo Taco Truck. One night, my girlfriend and I were walking back from a bar, kinda buzzed, when I decided I want food, while she wanted more beer. I said, "BOOM, best of both worlds! Let's try Union Pool." So we did. The Taco Truck is in the back of Union Pool in the corner with some big benches next to it for drunk customers to sit.

When I got on line, yes there is a line of drunks, I took a look at the menu. They have tacos, nachos, and a few other authentic mexican dishes. I ordered the special for the night, which was 2 taco's (one veggie + one chicken) for $5 instead of $6. It was delicious. The mixture of tomato, onion, and sauces they put on top really make the taco. After eating both, I was partial to the veggie taco, but after a few more beers, this taco truck called my name again. I went back to the corner and I ordered two more. I know. I shouldn't have. But I did. And I will do it again.

My second time within 30 minutes was just as good as the first time. I ordered another veggie taco and a beef taco. Again, the veggie taco was so good, yet I hit my first hurdle with the beef taco. It wasn't too tasty, which I was surprised about.

I want to go to El Diablo Taco Truck again. I will go to El Diablo Taco Truck again. I will not order a beef taco. I will order another veggie taco and try the fish taco. And I will drink a few more cheap ass beers at Union Pool with these tacos again too.

After a couple of beers at a nearby bar, the girls and I needed a nosh that $1 potato chips could not satiate. Upon the brilliant recommendation of my "New To New York" roommate, she suggested tacos from a truck in a bar.
    whoa whoa whoa.
clearly, my roommate was drunk when she suggested this. No way is there a TRUCK inside a BAR serving TACOS.
    She swore.
And then I was like "Oh man, this is serious"
I was born and raised in Williamsburg up until 4 years ago and I never knew such a place existed. Maybe I KNEW but the foodie roots were deep enough yet. The four of us, slightly intoxicated ladies walked into the bar, got carded (yay!), and hit the backyard area where the taco truck was slinging out deliciousness.
    The menu was simple.
    I wanted everything on it.
I spied an empty picnic table and parked myself there while giving the girls my order. 2 beef tacos, 1 chicken and a grilled corn.
I wasnt even that hungry. I just knew I needed to try a whole bunch of goodness.
The beef was tasty but the chicken was even tastier. The corn? slightly overcooked but flavorwise was spot on!
a taco alone will set you back about $3.50.
The backyard is popular but never once did i feel claustrophobic or anything.
The one thing that bugged the crap out of me was the smoking sitch. While i thoroughly enjoyed my late night tacos, the cigarette smoke being blown all over the place was gag-inducing. If they banned smoking I would consider leaving Queens more often.

So this truck makes Union Pool a better place. I can't seem to find a real hot sauce at at any Mexican place in this city. I found it here. They have a habenero salsa here and they aren't scared to use it. This reason alone I am givin this place 5 stars! F it.

If you want to go out for Mexican food, don't go here... Go to one of the many real restuarants in this hood... But if you want to hit up a semi cool bar, or at Union Pool already, grab a taco.... And look diablo in the eyes... Tell him you want the inferno... If you need to, go back and ask for some more.... I promise you'll get an endorphan rush and feel like a million bucks. (after a few minutes of tears and pain)

so yea they are 3 dollar tacos that should be 2, but they go so well with a cream ale... youll feel great, gaaaaareat. uhmpf.

Shove your way through the hipsters inside Union Pool and make your way to the patio--you'll see El Diablo taco truck to your left.

The tacos are fresh, limey with the perfect amount of spice. The corn is grilled, juicy goodness. The price is cheap. The service is friendly. The line might be long but it'll move pretty quick. And the music out the old, scratchy speaker is absolutely dreamy.

I'm so sad. This was literally one of my favorite places ever to get tacos. Especially the shrimp tacos. Friend and I all agreed, they were some of the best Shrimp tacos around....Sadly something changed. I've been back recently after having not visited it for a good year and everything was off. The shrimp felt pre cooked and tough and dry and lacking flavor. The pork tasted sour. As someone that would have give then 100 stars a year ago I'm saddened to say something happened for the worse here. I'm not basing this off of one night either I went back twice after to double check as it was a summer mainstay and still got the poor results. Really sad...as this place was my favorite spot for a tasty taco.

Maybe they'll bring back the fresh ingredients again. If they do, somebody let me know?

My boyfriend and I were spending one of our waning summer evenings walking around Brooklyn in search of cheap drinks.  We found some, got bored and decided we needed a new location. My boyfriend and I have different reactions to a few beers: it perpetuates my desire for more beer and his desire for food. Mexican is always his FOC (food of choice) so we shuffled on over to Union Pool, to satisfy both our demands.

We got our cheap beer and planted ourselves on a picnic table beside the truck. I decided I didn't want to eat, and sent him on his way to order. He returned with one chicken and one veggie. In typical girlfriend fashion I said "ok, just a bite" and almost devoured his entire veggie taco.  It was amazing! Everything tasted fresh and warm and perfectly proportioned. I wish I had ordered my own. About a half hour went by, still sitting at the picnic table, and we gave one another that devilish glare that could only mean one thing...another round of tacos. This time he went for beef and veggie. I don't eat meat so I can't comment on the beef or chicken, but once again the veggie taco was perfectly on point.

I returned about a week later to Union Pool and in a state of utter intoxication began craving these tacos. Unfortunately the line was about 15 people long. I didn't have the patience to wait (after waiting for the bathroom for 10 minutes) but I will be back soon.

El Diablo is my go-to mexican restaurant in Williamsburg. The chorizo quesadilla (with a hint of their secret burn your mouth off salsa) is off the charts. I haven't hit it up for breakfast tacos as yet, probably because I drink too much of the cheap beer while I'm there. Cheers El Diablo!

I've eaten a lot of tacos in both NY and Texas, where I divide my time.  This taco truck serves excellent tacos, in a great setting. I'm not sure what the people were looking for when they negatively reviewed these. Sometimes I think people are expecting tacos to be laden with cheese and other toppings...when actually, a simple taco is much more satisfying.

Their pork tacos are delicious and moist and need only for you to squeeze some lime onto them before you eat. And their shrimp tacos are amazing, as is the breakfast taco served on weekends. The prices are very reasonable...and to wash this down with a Tecate and listen to a great DJ or band...or just hang out on the patio...makes for a great destination! Oh yeah, and their queso is a spicy guilty pleasure too!

El Diablo is like having a built in Tamale Guy (Chicagoans reading this will know what's up) when you really need it. After drinking two 12 percent beers (Mad Elf) at our first stop, I was in need of some sustenance in a bad way. Thinking I was at a loss, I walked through the door to the patio to see this glowing oasis that was the El Diablo Taco Truck. I got quesadillas and a Mexican coke and I was saved. NYCers, I am a little bit jealous of this situation here at Union Pool.

I don't know how many times I've set it up to meet friends here for drinks simply because I wanted to get my hands on a taco, some chips, or a torta. Tucked away in the back corner of Union Pool, this taco truck is great even if you just want to get dinner and not hang at the bar all night.  I got the pork taco, grilled corn, and chips and queso.
HOLY CRAP the queso!  I judge all mexican food places by their queso and this was perfect...spicy, creamy, addictive, delicious.  I was so sad when our chips ran out.
The grilled corn was really interesting.  I've never had anything like it before but it was delicious...it looks like candy and kind of tastes like candy.  Savory, delicious candy.  Although, if you're at UP trying to pick someone up, having corn stuck in your teeth may not be in your best interest.  Or buy a grilled corn for your object of fancy and have corn stuck in your teeth together!
The pork taco was also good, although I prefer mine non-traditional...with cheese, sour cream, etc.  But that's my own deal, not the truck's.  Lets just say I don't normally like cilantro, raw tomatoes, or red sauce, but I scarfed this thing down in seconds (after removing the copious onions...yuck!)
Definitely check it out.  I hear it gets line-y and crowded late night but I went at like, 8:30 and it was perfect.

    AIR-CONDITIONED BY SATAN

Not having too much experience with the east-coast taco truck scene, or any coast taco truck scene, this place spawned a mild interest on my behalf in the city's various taco trucks and tacos in general.

After straying from my preferred burritos, I sampled tacos at several places and trucks around the city and this is still the best by far.

Granted, several domestic beers tends to pique one's appetite in any environment, but these are well-made tacos, despite the fact that they are in the backyard of a bar.

I only had grilled corn, and I don't know if this warrants me to give a complete review.  Nonetheless, the corn was very good, and I greatly admire the saintliness of the two dudes in the truck.  It can't be Dolly Parton-wonderful to work inside a taco truck: it's hot, messy, where do you pee, etc.  But it's gotta be ninety f'n times worse to work inside a taco truck marooned inside a megabar filled with obnoxious drunk beasts at 2am.  But these guys kept it cool, didn't kill anyone, made great corn and tacos (so I heard).  So I salute you, boys.

The east coast taco scene usually leaves a lot to be desired if you have frequented the west. Every once in a while you will hear cries of "this is the best mexican food in the east coast" but actually its just another cardboard fold with subpar fillings. El Diablo brings the fire of the west to the drunken east coast. Fill you mouth space with whisky until you need to soak it up with some of these food folds. Super juicy meat and the double tortilla really kick a fireball of flavor right into your tonsil pocket.  I believe the night I was here i ate 6 tacos and a few corn. They are no dummies, you def want to eat and drink more when both are within a stones throw from each other. Bring cash.
