My friends and I stayed here for a three day weekend in Napa wine country for our friend's wedding. We came ahead of the check-in time and the receptionist was very nice and was able to find a room for us. The room that we had two queen size beds, a bathroom, and a porch. It was very clean and no-frills, which I didn't mind.

It is very convenient to stay here instead of the city of Napa (about 30 minutes away) since downtown St. Helena is just down the highway and close to a lot of wineries like V. Sattui where my friend's wedding was held at. Also this place is really close to Taylor's Refresher. The idea of eating my lunch outside during a heat wave was unappealing and it was nice to eat in an air conditioned room.

Nice hotel to stay at if you want a weekend getaway from the Bay Area.

This little motel was absolutely perfect for our weekend getaway. We booked the king size, in-room spa tub (#39), but I would suggest you just go for a regular room without the spa tub. Although it was clean, the tub itself was discolored green (ugh). We couldn't figure out how to turn on the faucet (only the shower head) and given that there's a sauna, hot tub and pool just a walk from the room for free, what's the point?

The room was huge and very clean, with a gorgeous full-length mirror. The bed was quite comfortable and had a choice of a soft or firm pillow. I loved this! I am always disappointed with pillows in hotels and motels because they are so darn soft, so I opted for the firm pillow and it was a good night's sleep away from home. The air conditioner doesn't get very cold, so I hope you enjoy a comfortable 70 degree room. We wish there had been better lighting in the room.

The pool is a decent size. They lie when they label it 3.5 ft to 9.5 ft in depth, however. I would say it's more like 4 ft to 10 ft deep. The pool is heated and was a perfect temperature to cool off from the sweltering sun. Towels are provided in the pool area. It appears to be some-what popular, as our time was cut short in the pool by the arrival of an annoying little kid. I hardly noticed the other couples, however.

We will definitely be back to El Bonita for a quiet weekend stay.

We booked here on the last night of our honeymoon, returning to the valley in hopes of a call from the French Laundry wait list lady. It was Friday and this was the only place we could find without a two night minimum. The rooms are small. On the plus side, the bathroom floors are heated. On the downside, it was 90 degrees turning the heated floors into a bad thing. Also they apparently have a huge beer party/loud talking olympics every Friday night in the pool area. Kinda pricey for what you get too. Maybe I'm just butt sore that the French Laundry didn't call me back. This as it turns out was a blessing in disguise.

We've stayed at El Bonita a number of times over the past 13 years. It has always been neat, clean, and very pleasant. We have seen a renovation or two happen, but have never experienced anything that would disappoint. I guess Mark knows something I don't, but I doubt there is anything qualifies as a bargain in the Napa Valley area. The rates to us are very fair for the rooms, knowing the exorbitant prices some of the nearby B&B and Inns charge! It is convenient to some of the best restaurants, wineries, as well as Dean & Deluca just down the street. A little cheese, some charcuterie, a loaf of bread, and a bottle of wine we picked up has made for several very romantic evenings back in our room at El Bonita. Ready to do it again!

A great little place to stay on our last minute jaunt to Napa. Yes, they are dog friendly. Thank god! I couldn't get a hold of Beau's doggsitter and I really didn't have any other options. They totally saved the day.
El Bonita is in a perfect spot in Napa. Your only 5 minutes to Yountville and 5 mins to St. Helena.
The rooms are clean and basic. They have a nice pool and sauna. The really maintain the grounds and have lounging areas in the garden. It's actually pretty spacious and if your lucky you get one with a patio like we did. Just to make it a little more luxurious we hit Dean and Deluca and bought some wine and nibbles to enjoy on our little patio.

While they claim that this is the cheapest place to stay in St Helena, it is not exactly a bargain at $180 a night for a motel room with cheap sheets and plastic blankets.  The bathroom had rust running down the wall and there a no services at all.  On the upside, it is centrally located and they have a great hot tub out in front with a heated pool.  It was fun to hang out with other guests and be close to the restaurants in town, but it this were in any other location it would be out of business at the price s they charge.

Nothing extravagant here, but El Bonita has everything you need: clean, comfortable, spacious rooms; reasonable rates, especially compared to other Napa Valley lodging; and a central location near lots of wineries, restaurants and shops. If you're not looking to splurge on a pricey B&B and just need a good base of operations from which to pillage wine country, this is a smart choice.
