I don't know what it is now, but El Bocadito is no longer there. So it was a double whammy of my restaurant search last night (la bamba was the other). Triple whammy if you count that Guss', which was almost next door was closed for the day also. Yes, one can have a dinner solely of pickled products.

Yummy! This place was excellent and had GREAT guac- I don't even like guac and I still loved it. They also have caparinahs- a Brazilian drink that I absolutely love!
The prices are reasonable and the waitstaff was very friendly. It's small, but wasn't too crowded on the Sunday I went. Overall this is one of the better Mexican places I've been to in the city.

This delicious tapas-style mexican restaurant is a gem in the Lower East Side. Small and narrow, it probably fits about 20 people if you include bar seating. Ideal for parties of 2-5, this casual but fun restaurant has a super friendly bartender and a fun waiter that will know you by your name within 10 minutes of your arrival. The lighting is cool, the guac is tasty, and the dishes are all small, yummy, and inexpensive. They don't take reservations, so come prepared to wait a little, but aside from that it's a great place for a second date.

This small resto is a wonderful addition to the mexican eateries that pepper the new york scene. The food is wonderful, the scene isn't too trendy and most importantly - its very wallet friendly!

S. and I thought, OK, one drink after work, it's been a long, long week. Our intention was to go to Barrio Chino, as I've been fantasizing about the habanero grapefruit margaritas in my spare time. But it was packed -- we had to put our name on a list just to get a seat at the bar! So we strolled around the corner to El Bocadito, hopped up on two open stools at the bar, and ordered some margaritas. I went for the standard variety, she opted for ginger with muddled pineapple. She choked a little on the spicy roasted seeds set out as bar treats; bartender and I bonded over our appreciation for Mana; he got us pretty soused (note - the banana margaritas aren't quite right, but they sure are strong) while his conspiracy-theory rocker friend entertained us; after starting with guacamole, we devoured some enchiladas de queso (verdes, por supuesto).
I've had some superb cocktails lately, and last night's don't make the elite list. But I was happy and all was well with the world while we were there, so I'll be going back.

Tasty chorizo tacos, I also have tried their chicken tacos and they're good too. The place, as the name implies, pretty tiny.
Good mexican restaurant on the lower east side of manhattan
+ Nothing on menu over $10
+ Friendly staff
+ Really good mexican food (comparible to Zarela, Maya and Rosa Mexicana)
- Place is fairly small and if it was crowded you might wait awhile for a table (although i have never had to wait yet!)
