Yum yum yum! I crave this place every day :)  They have friendly staff that works VERY hard.  This place is very busy but very laid back.  It is one our most favorite joints on Judah in Outer Sunset.  Their homemade salsa is fabulous.  Some of our favorite choices:

Carnitas (Roasted Pork) -ANYTHING- burritos/tacos/dinner plate/ nachos- YUM
    Nachos
    Tostada's
    Grilled Veggie- ANYTHING
    Horchada (Spiced rice drink) mmmmm

Very family friendly.  Great prices and portions.  Yum.

    Bottom line: -Bland-

My wife ordered a regular pork verde burrito with cheese and I ordered a regular carnitas burrito without cheese. We could not tell them apart by taste alone.

On the plus side, nothing was over-salted. And although bland, the food was fresh.

There stuff is pretty good; definitely the best taqueria in the outer sunset.  Like the chile verde chicken a lot, and that is a meat that not a lot of taquerias have.  Basic taco shop food, but tasty and the portions are large.

    This place is really average.

I ordered a super meat burrito with chicken asado (chicken, beans, rice, salsa, guac, and cheese). The guac is nice and they do add a lot of it in it. The chicken was pretty good as well. They do have some chips, but really, they are stale.

The horchata and cantaloupe agua fresca was really good too. I got the horchata, but I do wish that I got the cantaloupe instead. It was good!

    Pretty good food. Not amazing.

Starving from walking around all day - we hungrily descended upon El Beach Burrito.

I ordered the grilled veggie burrito on a whole wheat tortilla with pinto beans, sliced avocado and a big handful of jalapenos.

The burrito was gigantic, and overflowing with flavorful ingredients. El Beach Burrito is far from being a Papalote, but I found my burrito to be filling, tasty, and the service friendly.

I smothered my burrito baby with red and green sauce and promptly left an empty plate.

    Trust.

I'm sorry, did we all go to the same place?  I really don't know what all the one and two star reviews here are all about. . .

My wife and I were hungry and we decided to go here for some quick Mexican food.  There were TONS of different things we could have picked from on the menu, but we decided on something simple for both of us.  She got a veggie burrito that she really liked, and I probably the best $3.55 bean and rice burrito that I think I've ever had in my life.  Nice size, with a good portion of chips and serve yourself salsa.  You'd think that with just beans and rice that it would be bland--nope!  Real tasty, and with a little added salsa, even better.

This place needs to clone itself all over the place, but if it doesn't, it's at least near the Great Highway so it's easy to get to.  This was the best Mexi-food I've had in a while.  It had a nice, casual ambiance, friendly service, interesting music, and was really clean.  You can't go wrong here and the price is right.  Has the Matthew D. Stamp of Approval.

My girlfriend swears that these are the best vegan burritos in San Francisco. I was impressed by the number of choices, including several vegan/vegetarian choices, and the size of the burrito was unbeatable for the price - we spent $7 and got a huge package of pinto beans, flavourful rice, guacamole, and grilled veg. The chips were also awesome and their hot sauces - both green (lime/avocado) and red - were super flavourful.

    I'll go back!

I've eaten here many times and the food and service are good. Not a lot of spice but they're serving the outer sunset crowd which apparently isn't what that neighborhood is looking for.

I asked for it and Jay, - this guy is really cool, gave me some jalapeno's to give me a kick. The salsas are good, one had a little kick- and they're homemade. So maybe if you ask for it they will spice them up in the future.

More so the burrito I got was delicious, shrimp super, low on rice - more veggies ROCKED!!

An epic show. An epic run. An epic burrito.

I'm pretty sure I know why this burrito was so good. I had just finished two epic nights with Above & Beyond in Los Angeles. And we flew home right after the second show to run Bay To Breakers.

    I was slightly hungry. Slightly.

So you can imagine, that when I got my very well priced slab featuring a wheat tortilla absolutely jammed with grilled tofu, black beans and mild sauce I went to town. It was so amazing.

Okay, let's just start off by stating the obvious: no, this is not a place in the Mission. However, it is one of a very few Mexican places in the outer sunset, and I have found that El Beach Burrito far outshines their neighborhood competition.

    1. Lots of choices, especially if you don't eat very many meat products. I am mainly vegetarian but occasionally eat fish, and this place has OPTIONS!:  a veggie burrito, a grilled vegetables burrito, a beans and rice burrito, a tofu burrito, a fish burrito, a prawn burrito, and my favorite, the chile relleno burrito.

    2. Decent size and not horribly expensive. Yes, you pay $1.50 more for a 'super' burrito, but even the regular burritos are large. Plus they give you a decent amount of chips and you can take as much salsa as you'd like from their salsa bar.

    3. Friendly staff. The two guys who run the cash register have always been super nice and happy. Even the cook staff has always been smiling when I'm in there.

Those three things alone make this a far preferable option (in my opinion) than La Playa on Noriega. Plus I like the flavors of their burritos far more as well.

So one of my besties SWEARS by this place, and I finally tried it... and I have to say, El Burrito Express on Taraval will always have my heart (and stomach!). I got the super carne asada quesadilla and horchata, and the bf got the huevos... mexicana? something. I thought my quesadilla was ok - a little too much sour cream and I felt like the flavors just weren't there. The horchata was suuuper cinnamon-y and sweet. The bf said his dish was a substantial amount of food (a whole platter of stuff AND a basket of chips + tortillas), but nothing special.

I will say though, that this burrito joint is definitely more spacious and cleaner than the typical and one of the few places to dine at in the area!

Yes I have had better, I have also had worse. This place is convenient and everything is made fresh to order. They also give you a huge helping for a very small price. I recommend the tofu and veggies super burrito. It was filled to the brim with huge chunks of seared tofu and a veggie medley of squash, onion, pepper, and mushrooms, all of which are my favorites. When the hombre attempted to roll it, it barely made it, and then he crammed it into a tight foil package. Upon opening, it oozed out into a surplus of cheesy goodness all over my plate. I appropriately sopped its innards up with their crunchy chips and topped it with their house made fresh fire roasted salsa, which was very tasty.

This is easily the most flavorless mexican food I have ever had. I've been here a few times and have regretted it every time. Somewhere deep down inside those mediocre burritos is a hint of taste, though I couldnt tell you what that taste is.
The prices are way too high. Portion size changes with every burrito, sometimes its HUGE, others(more often) its a teeny tiny disgrace.

After 5 tries I think I wont be returning, but if you are looking for something less appealing than taco bell, El Beach Burrito is the place for you!

I'm addicted to their "Super Nachos!"
I've eaten here serveral times. Since I've had the joy of scarfing down their Super Meat Nachos. It's all I think about.

I'm a pretty healthy guy, but the past month I've came here and downed their Super Nachos once or twice a week like I haven't eaten in days . The service here isn't bad, but for the area this is the tastiest Mexican cuisine around.

I don't understand the bad reviews, but there's always a scrumptious Mexican restaurant in every area. This is the Outer Sunset one!

This place doesn't get very good Yelp reviews, but I thought it was totally fine!

We walked in, it was clean.  This is good.  Then we went over to look at the menu and order and a cook said "Hi Friends."  That was cute.  I liked him.  Then we ordered - a veggie burrito and a super quesadilla.  And the food was GOOD.  And there was LOTS of it (I couldn't even finish my quesadilla).  They also had a little salsa bar, which didn't have the biggest variety, but what they did have were the two best kinds of salsa to have - a roasted red pepper salsa and a tomatillo avocado salsa.

The only complaints/suggestions that I have are:
1.)  The counter woman wasn't half as rude as the previous reviews stated, but she wasn't a bowl of peaches.  I know you're a cashier at a beach burrito joint lady, but things could be worse.
2.)  Salsa was good, but it needed some salt!  And I couldn't find a shaker :(

    We'll be back though!

My unremarkable Super Carnitas burrito cost me a shade under $9.00 (wtf), had little-to-no super toppings (guac, sour cream, etc), and had the sad carnitas that looks and tastes like canned tuna. Even my cute kitty would be, like, whatever. But I was tipsy, so it all went down okay. For what it's worth, they've improved their chips. Seems they fry them up on site now.

Y'all are trippin.  I went in here the other morning, and they were fire roasting tomatoes and peppers by hand.  And then the dude made some huevos, and he actually took eggs out of the fridge and cracked them, as opposed to when you see cafes pull out a big tub of pre-scrambled egg that's been sitting there god knows how long.  It was really fresh, and tasty!
One of my pet peeves about taquerias is vague menus.  "Burrito" "Super Burrito".... what does that mean?  This place clearly stated what comes inside, another win for me.
Also, they have tofu AND veggies to choose from, so veg options are plentiful.  I'll be back, often.

Nah, I'll pass. Give me warmer, fuller, more authentic and flavorful burritos please. What everyone is saying about the service and the taste is correct (in that, it's not very good). That salsa verde at Beach Burrito is tasty, but that doesn't make up for the fact that the store closes early, the chips are stale, their minimum for credit charge is like 12 bucks, and they ladies at the counter ain't too nice.

God, can't you move the mission a little closer to the west side of the city, please? Just this once?

Uhmm...NOT the worst Mexican food and NOT overpriced, and NOT bad service. I get the tofu burrito, but I don't know how vegetarian it is, I get a little sketched about them cooking on a grill they might have been cooking meat on. Now I'm not saying that they DO that but I don't know how considerate they are about grilling tofu on a separate and uncontaminated grill. So just keep that in mind if you're getting the tofu, they don't season it but it's SO good. Not sure how I feel about the rice, but the pico de gallo is super! Nothing beats great pico de gallo and I admire the salsa selection. Their chips are enjoyable, just the right amount of salt. And you get a generous amount of food for under seven dollars, and their sides are enormous. Five stars for delicious food and friendly service. Don't forget to tip, they deserve it!

I had the chicken fajitas for $6.95. I thought the meat was seasoned pretty good. They supplied a good portion for the price.

I don't know if my judgment of the food is swayed by the fact I was Starvin' like Marvin having been drinking and partying. I needed some kind of food to soak up booze.

There are not many other choices in the immediate neighborhood. I am glad they are here.

At best the food is OK. It's low rating is more because of prices & staff.

Prices are a bit steep for what you end up getting. VERY stingy on ingredients and more on the fillers.

Staff just doesn't really pay attention to details & when THEY get your order wrong look at you like YOU'RE not being clear.

There are other places to eat in the Outer Sunset, I suggest you goto another place to eat, because you roll the dice of getting what you want here.

I've sworn off of the place!

The woman who took my order was basically a space cadet...she wasn't really paying thorough attention to my order which I had to repeat a couple of times...I didn't know it was that hard to make a quesadilla!

Chips that came out of a huge plastic bag and shoved under a heat lamp....nah no thanks!

If you live in the Mission click away from this page. If you live in the Mission and you find yourself here go home. Pick up your PBR, hop on your track bike and head back. You can find your way by jumping on the N or just following what smells to be a mix of Taqueria and Urine.

Let's face it. In Sunset we don't have many options for Mexican and sometimes you really want some with out travelling too far out of your way. For that, I give this place 2 stars. It gets another star for being able to lean your bike up outside and not have to worry about it getting stolen or thrown up on as you would in the aforementioned Mission. But yes, if you have the time I would make the effort to go out to Papalote.

I had the special burrito w/ spicy chicken and it did the job. I'm full and still have the lingering flavor of guacamole and picante in my mouth so I can't complain.

If mediocrity was to take the form of Mexican food it would be a burrito from El Beach.

We had a hankering for burritos and decided to check out the Burrito eater recommendation.  The closest one to our house was this one and we had been to it before.  It was not very memorable, but we decided to go there anyway as we were too lazy to drive very far.  In a summary, the food here is blah which is on par with the service.

I ordered a super burrito and it was slightly over $8.  It had no taste and wasn't even lukewarm. The chips were old tasting and hard. Though we arrived about 1130 there was nobody there.  For the half hour that we were there, only a few customers came in for to-go orders.  Apparently it is not very popular.

The front door was wide open and some black birds flew in.  One of the help had to grab one that was fluttering by the window and tossed it out. Of course, a bunch of its feathers drifted into the restaurant. They didn't bother closing the door which seemed like a no-brainer. The music was turned up way too loud and apparently was meant for the enjoyment of the staff and not the customers.  It was very distracting.

The cashier, a heavy set Hispanic woman, didn't appear to enjoy customers and was unfriendly.  She reminded us of a mannequin in a Halloween mask.  She is definitely a negative impact to this place.

It is unlikely that we will return here.  I would rather go to Chevy's - at least the staff has better customer service skills and the food is warm.

The  crabby woman who is at the cashier is..like the other guy said, a SPACE CADET. She asked me what did i order and i said, "super carne asada burrito". She charged me $7.95 or something. I gave her a $20 bill. Then five minutes later she asked me again, "What did you order?"

i said i ordered a burrito then she asked me to pay AGAIN! what the fuck?!? then i said, "I PAID ALREADY. I GAVE YOU MONEY." and she started shaking her head. YO BROAD! i paid your ass already!! ugh.. And i was like are you serious???
I JUST PAID YOU 5 MINUTES AGO!!! then she checked her reciepts and realized that i did pay. and i was like, "I gave you a $20 bill and you gave me this amount back" and she still was shaking her head!!

what a crazy woman!!!! is it cuz im asian and all asians look the same so she couldn't tell?

also, i asked one guy for a side of extra hot sauce (because their burritos are soooo dry!! but shame on me, cuz i keep coming back) and a few moments later, he would ask me again to make sure, "you want hot sauce?!" "uhh. yea?" and never got it.

The funniest thing is, I asked him to put black beans ON THE SIDE. when i got home, i found out he put them in a tiny salsa container (which seriously fits about 10 beans, max). okay fine, whatever. i took a bite of my burrito and taste a whole shit load of black beans in my mouth.  whaaaa, it's inside too??WTF?!? LOL

are you guys fucking with me on purpose or what? cuz if you are......... its working -_-

The hubby and I came here for lunch after signing the lease on our new beach-side apartment.  I have lived in this hood in the past and was thrilled to see how many old faves remained and how many new options had popped up.

I was excited to see a burrito shop a few blocks from the new digs but I'm sorry to say that we were a little disappointed in how bland everthing tasted.  I had the chicken asado and the hubby had the carnitas.  Mine was slightly better than his but both were pretty blah.  The only things that had a lot of flavor were the chips and they were way too salty.   Even the salsas didn't add a whole lot.

Maybe we just need to try other things.  Sounds like the chile verde is good so we'll check that out next time.  And there will be a next time given the proximity to our new home.

This place lacks the authentic feeling I get when I walk into any other taqueria.

Burritos themselves are mediocre at best.  There's no real flavor and absolutely nothing that stands out.  I'd rather travel a bit further and go to El Burrito Express on Taraval.  Or better yet, just haul my ass to the Mission.

This place is probably popular because it's the only one in the area and it's close to the beach.

3.5 stars. The problem I have with Beach Burrito is that it's just a dark, lonely place. Not dirty, not scary. Just dark and dreary and blah to look at. Also, there's almost no Verizon reception inside so if I'm alone I can't even surf the web while I wait or eat. (Thank God for Kindle.)

The food, on the other hand, is fine. Generally, better than fine. I've ordered an assortment of combo burritos from here over the years and they've been consistently good. No problems. If you're hungry for a mission-style burrito you will be fine here.

I only ordered takeout from here...

I called in to ask about some of the burritos and a young girl answered who had no real clue. She didn't know what was in the grilled vegetable burrito- she said "Um, mushrooms." When we finally set our order for pickup later on and asked what the final price was, she said "We'll calculate it when you get here." How much less accommodating can they be!!

The food leans more toward the bad side. Doesn't have much flavor and not very authentic.

Worst part - a f***ing rock in my burrito! A rock!!! The size of my pinky nail! Thank god I'm not a very hard chewer or I would've chipped a damn tooth!

The key to getting your order right at this place is:

    1) Have a pleasant attitude, definitely give a tip, because they do remember that.
    2) When you order your food, don't just walk away, stay at the counter and watch how they prepare your food and what they put it in.
3)Try and be a cute guy so that the lady at the cashier will come out of her haze and become charming and sweet (I've seen it happen).

+This place is the better burrito place out of the 1 of 2 burrito places in the Sunset, food and salsa are tasty (once they get your order right), you can pretty much find parking/right off the N-Line and it's open late (9 PM being late for the Sunset).

-The price is kind of expensive, you have to watch the preparation of your food, not a good place for people who expect the staff to treat you like the sterling customer that you are, although I've experienced a couple smiles here and there.

If the beach burrito was the spot after last call at the bars....This place would be the spot....Because you would be too drunk to give a crap about you're eating...

The Burritos are bland and just ok....And everything else just fails. My biggest complaint is the staff. Primarily the lady who taking the orders most of the time. She is the slowest person ever and even rude sometimes.

    The Carnitas is good however.

Here's a tip do not go to this place if they are 30 mins from closing the food is rushed and the cashier get even stupider.

I really wanna give this place 3 stars because it's in my neighborhood. But this place is below average. I'll Stick with Gordo's, Lavenida and LaFonda on 9th and Irving.

Even the Burrito place on Noriega and 46th is better than the beach Burritto.

I could make my own burrito for less instead of going here

On our last visit, I knew I had to get some Mex-food loving. So I went here, and cried into my fatty burrito. The burrito was fantastic, and I was crying because in MA (the hellhole where I now live), there are no burritos that even compare. The salsa bar was pretty small, but the salsas made up for the lack of selection with their overabundance of flavor. The chips were standard taqueria chips: salty and greasy, leaving the perfect mount of unhealthy film on your fingertips to lick off. Mmmm.

So I ate it, felt really full, and dreamed about that tortilla-wrapped log of love.

Not much about this place is really "authentic" but it's not the worst Mexican food I've had. Their burritos are decent, but tend to get dry even with salsa.

The highlight is their tomatillo salsa! I haven't had salsa that delicious from anywhere! It's worth it to just get chips and try this salsa. Service is good.

A disclaimer: I live about two blocks from this place, AND I hate to drive, so I'll admit that my fourth star has more to do with my laziness/being a somewhat captive audience than about the quality of the food.

Having said that, I think the food here is good.  Not great, but good.  The chile verde pork is quite tasty, and is probably the reason I do not experience the "dry burrito" syndrome several others here have reported.  The salsa bar is also quite good, and my wife really likes the green tomatillo salsa in particular.

The service...huh.  I go here enough that I am greeted warmly, but they are SLOW.  If there are more than a couple people in line ahead of you, I would recommend a book or placing your order and then running next door for a smoothie, cuz it's gonna be a minute.

Good food, in the neighborhood, and I can lie to myself and say that by walking there and back I am burning off some of the calories in a super burrito.  Not for everybody, but good for me.

Like the place and all the choices of goodies that can be stuffed into a burrito but I am giving it only 2 stars because of the woman (hispanic) at the cash register.  I say hispanic because when I had been there once before I was helped by a caucasian woman who could not have been more welcoming.  This woman yesterday did not acknowledge me at all when I smiled and paid and actually looked away when she shoved my burrito at me, gave me a sour look when I thanked her.  Really bizarre behavior.  I know lots of folks will put up with a lot for good food but for me it is 50% food, 50% atmosphere and service and so I am giving only 2 stars.  We will see how she treats me next time, it might be the last.

Well I have been back twice and the woman has been friendlier . . . actually got her to smile once - maybe you have to get through her process.  So, I'm adding a star, maybe she will work her way up!  Still love that grilled tofu burrito, it is very dry and I guess I like that.

My usual burritos from Gordo's on 9th Ave. or the The New Spot in the Dogpatch. El Beach Burrito is just 3 short blocks from my house so i decided to give it a go as i was hungry, and thought a burrito would do nicely.

My brother and I walk in an notice it is deserted. Strike one. But still my stomach is willing to give it a chance. The lady at the register wasn't friendly in the least. She didn't speak English well, but she apparently felt like we were bugging here just by buying food from her restaurant. Strike Two. Okay so i finally get a super carne asada to take home, it is a little pricey, more than im used to and they charged for using a wheat tortilla. Foul Ball. The money could still be worth it if it's really good.

Nope. Strike Three and El Beach Burrito is out. A dry, flavor-poor burrito is what i got. Also they use a yellow-orange cheese that reminded me of a viscous Kraft Mac and Cheese. They were extremely cheap on pretty much everything, even the rice, resulting in a super burrito that was only super in name and price only.

Stay away! If you're in the Outer Sunset, make the trip to 9th avenue.

Came here when I realized Judahlicious had no real "man" breakfast, and when I crudely say "man"  i'm just talking about something with some meat in it.

Needless to say, when I came into El Beach Burrito one early morning all I wanted was a solid breakfast burrito that would fill me up. Boom, got it. The burrito itself was decent, it was by no means amazing or to die for. It just did the job.

The service was fast and the food was good. I can only comment on the breakfast burrito since that was the only thing I had, and I would go back, definitely. So the next time my girlfriend wants to hit up Judahlicious, I know El Beach Burrito has got me covered.
