Eiko has the *BEST* Spider Roll I've EVER had in my LIFE!!

They even gave complimentary miso soup and edamame. My friend also seemed to thoroughly enjoy his sashimi platter.

    Delivery was fast!

I'll update the review after I've tried some more of their food.

Not too bad for a lunchtime sushi spot.  I'd say about a 3.5 on the Bellymeter scale.  The place is on the small side, but we arrived around 1:30pm so we had no problem getting seated right away.  Parking could be a pain, but I lucked out and got a primo spot right in front. =)  For such a small place, they do offer quite the extensive selection of menu items ranging from 12 different salad choices to sushi/sashimi to cooked entrees (Japanese, Chinese, and Thai).

I ended up going with the Lunch Combo A (Sushi & Roll).  For starters I received a bowl of tasty miso soup and an aesthetically pleasing salad with cucumber slices with roasted white sesame seeds (see pic).  I'm liking it so far.  Then came my mini-wooden boat with a few sushi pieces and a mini-roll of spicy tuna.  Taste was decent.  It wasn't melt in your mouth wow quality, but it was better than I expected for a $10 lunch combo.  I also ordered up a Salmon Skin Handroll which was good and also the Hamachi (yellowtail) sushi, which for some reason was covered in ponzu?  Tasted ok though.  The other thing I noticed is that they use no wasabi when making sushi.  That was a bit weird, and if I'm going to get super picky, the rice could've used a bit more rice vinegar.  But on the whole, not too shabby for lunch.

Watch the check as well.  The total for two of us was around $45 (w/out tip) but when I later added everything we ordered up on their takeout menu it comes to $33?  Odd...

Ate dinner here one Tuesday night. We were one of two parties in the place. From other reviews it seems that they get the lunch rush. Which was great relief, since it didn't seem like they could survive on just 2 parties.

Why does this unassuming sushi bar earn Austin's coveted 5 stars? Well, a little method to my madness, as far as rating sushi joints.
    - Freshness of fish: I walked up to the bar and asked what's fresh today, and he pointed to the live abalone. While tempted to order some, I held back.
    - Friendliness of staff. Very pleasant waitress. When I offered to buy a round for the chefs (always good sushi karma), they were grateful and actually poured a large Asahi for us and toasted with us.
    - Great sushi. We ordered many of the 1/2 off rolls (a permanent part of their menu), then put ourselves in the chef's hands. He made an incredible "boat" with sake (salmon), spicy hamachi and scallops in the middle.
-- Quaintness: if it looks authentic and family-run, bonus points. I spotted several "super lucky cat" statues appointed throughout the decor. A very good sign
    - Reasonable prices

After we thought we were done, the chef brought us some harasu (salmon belly) nigiri on the house. Delicious, this is fattier than most cuts.

Then when we REALLY thought we were done and asked for the check, they brought us a teriyaki salmon entree! Challenging to eat with chopsticks but very tasty.

The next time I return to L.A., Eiko will be high on my list of places to hit; and next time I'll order the abalone, price be damned!

Fresh, generous portions of your favorite sushi combinations!  This place is very authentic, great super casual sushi bar.
Note this place gets very crowded weedays during lunch hours.

I'm a huge sushi fan.  I especially enjoy the kind that melts in your mouth and tastes deliciously fresh.  I was looking for a place close to my apartment that could put together a party platter of 150 pieces. I found this hole-in-the-wall sushi bar between La Jolla & Crescent Heights off of Wilshire.  It's hidden behind some trees, which makes it easy to miss, so you'll have to keep an eye out for it.

The platter I ordered had like 10 varieties of sushi, as well as some delicious sashimi, and every piece was excellent.  The owner and servers are good-natured and easy to work with.  I appreciated the the attention that was put into the layout of platter, as well as the freshness of the fish.

I'd recommend it if you're looking to add a new sushi spot to your list.  It has reasonable prices and great taste.  And although I haven't yet been there for dinner, I would guess that even with their limited sushi bar seating, you may be able to find a seat since it's not the most well-known place.

I stopped in one night on my way home and there was not a single person in the restaurant.  The practical person inside me asked, how can the fish be super fresh if they are not turning it over quickly?  So I keep on driving.

Today I decided to give Eiko its fair chance, it does have an A rating.  I started with a cold beer, big plus, and ordered the pork cutlet lunch combo.  The space is "intimate" and the service is friendly.  Other then that the experience was neither good nor bad.  It was satisfying.  The pork cutlet was "all-right" and the tempura was good, made like it should be.  The batter was lightly applied and the tempura was crisp.

I will have to take the 5th on the sushi as I passed on ordering any based on paragraph one above.

In summary, Eiko is Good for the local yokels, not worth a special trip out of your way and there are probably better choices near by.

I order this place because for $20.00 they have a very generous sashimi platter they'll deliver.

Delivery is prompt, people who take the calls are friendly and they take credit cards.

They also include Miso Soup and FRESH avocado and wasabi with the delivery, which I definitely appreciate.

Also, it says it's 15-piece sashimi but every time it has felt like more.

The rolls are solid and there's a wide selection.  I haven't had any of their non japanese style food, but for sushi and sashimi this place is more than adequate and not unreasonably priced.

-3 stars (should be -5) because now I want to throw up after eating their spicy tuna roll and eel avocada roll. I had their rolls before and was disgusted. I don't know what I was thinking, just lazy (closest sushi place to my work) and craving sushi and hoping the rolls weren't as bad as I recalled...there are two ways of eating sushi: 1) eat it w/out soy sauce & wasabi because the fish is so yummy and fresh 2) douse it with soy sauce & wasabi so you don't have to vomit your lunch back up. I forgot to douse it --not that's going to help much...gotta find some chocolate now to rid this taste.

Ugh! There are these three flies in this restuarant that don't EVER go away!! They are regular customers there, buzzing around, annoying the hell out of everyone. Please Please get rid of these flies!! Other than that- u get the local entertainment industry ppl eating here all the time and yeah u can tell they work in entertainment from a distance- the fake tans and the tight t-shirts.
The restuarant itself is family owned and operated- u can tell its their grandma or aunts in the kitchen making the food which is not bad and their prices are decent. I really like their salmon fire roll.

This is probably one of the most reasonably priced sushi restaurants I've been to. Especially around my area. And the sushi is tasty too. It's a small restaurant with friendly service. I always come for dinner and you can park on the streets around 7pm. It is usually not busy when I'm there. But I imagine it could be during lunch time. They have a small 50% off sushi menu with prices that start at $3. The chef even treated us to a unique sushi plate the first time we went. Unfortunately, I barely touched it because I was so full. A sign of a great dinner.

A great place to go for lunch or dinner.  It is small (sits about 29 persons) but worth it.   We have gotten there about 11:45 AM and never had a trouble getting a table.   Service can be slow when they are crowded, but it is worth it.  Never had any of the sushi, but all other dishes we have tried were delicious and fresh!  I am glad that we rediscovered Eiko to add to the lunch rotation.

Don't let this hole in the wall place fool you. It might be small but they have some kick-ass food! The fish was fresh and tasty and had one of the best california rolls I've had in a while! Though service was a bit slow since they were under staffed and parking can be a pain it was well worth the trip!

This place is okay if you like American sushi (aka, raw fish rolled up in rice and covered in weird sauces). I went last night and found a hair in our bowl of edamame beans....which we still ate, so yeah.

Small hole in the wall kind of place that is easy to miss.. The waitress is really nice and offers prompt and courteous service.

Truly one of the best philadelphia rolls I have ever had since they put the salmon both inside and out of the roll. It seems family owned and operated which is a big plus.
