This is an old Time favorite. I've been coming here since almost my whole life. Did my mouth just start watering??? They make the best Peruvian Chicken I've ever had. I love there chicken sandwiches, chorizo sandwich, whole chickens, and even their steak n cheese sandwich (I was really surprise about that one). I've tried so many times to mimic their broiled chicken at home but failed.
Can I be a cook for one day here just so I can learn how they do it...just kidding!
The only down side is that it's a tab pricey and THEY DON'T TAKE CREDIT CARDS. It should be a rule that every single restaurant should take credit cards. Oh well, I guess its off to the ATM before heading here. Oh, and prepare to be in line for a good amount of time. This place is almost always packed.

My experience with "Peruvian" chicken is expansive as one can imagine.  Edy's brings to the table what many eateries lack -- consistent deliciousness.  I do not put faith in majority of their dishes and sides, but I cannot refuse the crispy, juicy skin on the Chicken with the meat being oh-so tender and moist.  Add the side of fries and then smother everything with the amazing "mayo" type of sauce and ones taste buds are in for the greatest pleasure a human being will ever come across.

Why I ever chose to move away from Alexandria boggles my mind.  Chicago will never have a "Peruvian" eatery as amazing as Edy's.

Very good Pollo ala Brasa in Falls Church. In the ball park as El Pollo Rico but not enough to takeover the number one spot! Had to deduct a star because they forgot Yuca in chicken combo #2 (Half Chicken). This was after he read the full order back to me, lol.  Instead, they inserted fries in my lunch box. The chicken was a bit pricier than EPR. Although, I did notice they were not stingy with the white/green sauces. EPR charges 40 cents per additional sauce.

They offer so much more than just chicken. Next time I come here, I am going to try the steaks they offer. One of my coworkers I went with got a cheesesteak. I hear great things.

I was pretty satisfied with my yuca-less chicken platter. Plenty of business and seating at this deluxe rotisserie chicken restaurant.

They also have a showcase of desserts. I was in a rush during the lunch hour and did not get a chance to try but it looked yummy. Of course, as with most good Pollo ala Brasa places, it is CASH ONLY.

This is a good place to get chicken.  Their white and green sauce rocks!  However, the whole chicken is a bit pricey.  You can get the same whole chicken at half the cost from Safeway, Giant, or even COSTCO.  If ones does go in here, buy the white and green sauce!  It's goes well with rice (sticky)!

I've been going to this place for almost ten years, ever since they were a hole in the wall in a much smaller space. They have been consistently delicious - I love their  moist, delicious chicken, and  love that special sauce! Despite the fact that they don't take credit cards, customer service is always excellent. Oh, and their alfajores are great too.

Tought one for me - the chicken, IMHO is the best I've had in the area.  It's cooked perfectly and the flavor is unreal.  I was dissapointed in the side item choices.  You can have fries, rice, or plantaines.  I like the variety of EPR - chic peas, etc.  I think everything else has basically been covered here.  You'll enjoy your meal and hate the drive.

I walked out with half a chicken, rice, salad, and an orange soda for $9.98.

OK - went again today with coworkers. It was 'much better'. The atmosphere today was decent...

Ordered a Philly Cheesesteak (yeah - I know - weird for a chicken place). The steak was OK. The fries were great. The sauces were even better.

Everyone seemed to like their food.

Cannot complain today. Will try again in the future. Who know? Might be moving up the review ladder...

Edy's Chicken & Steak is only a mile or two away from my home and I frequent this place when I'm in the mood for their Peruvian style rotisserie chicken (last night was no exception).

Edy's is a fast-food, casual-dining style restaurant where you would go up to the counter, order and pay for your meal and (if dining in) find a table and wait for your number to be called. Service is relatively quick and I've learned to avoid peak hours during lunch & dinner as lines get rather long while empty tables grow scarce. Another caveat is that the place is "cash only" so make sure you bring some of those dead presidents and avoid the embarrassment of not being able to pay especially during the above mentioned lunch & dinner peaks. The place doesn't hold much appeal aesthetically other than that it's clean and well-lit.

I've been a long-time customer of Edy's and one thing that remains consistent... the chicken. This delicious bird is what always keeps me coming back! I've been to a few of the other Peruvian Chicken places but much prefer Edy's. I don't know what particular spices are used but they all seem to compliment each other perfectly. It's hard to forget the unique taste of it. Not quite the rotisserie chicken you'd find at your local supermarket or at Chicken-Out. It's flavorful but not spicy or overpowering. It's moist, tender and juicy on the inside with a wallop of well-seasoned crispiness on the outside. It also comes with two dipping sauces - a pale yellow sauce that tastes a little like honey-mustard and a textured green sauce that's cilantro-spicy.

Last night I ordered a  1/2 chicken (dark meat) which included a side salad and a side of rice. It's pretty much what I order every time. Although, as the name of the restaurant implies, Edy's also serves steaks among other things. I've always wanted to try it... but never do. I can't imagine anything other than the chicken would be better but who knows. If I ever decide to stray to another part of the menu, I'll be sure and share my thoughts.

Other sides you can choose from include french fries, yucca or Peruvian-style potato salad.

CASH ONLY. Hey, how else are they supposed to skim some off the top and lie to The Man?

This place is OK, there are many other Peruvian chicken establishments out there that smash this place in competition. But, its still pretty tasty because I loves me some chicken.

Their yellow sauce is tasty but its pulling teeth to get them to give you anything more than one minuscule container of it.

If you want REALLY good chicken, go to El Pollo Rico. This place isn't bad though.

I like this place a lot.  I'm not from this area but this has become a comfort food.  I love the crinkle fries that come with the chicken.  They're a  little crispy and they go amazingly well with the white and green sauce.  I always ask for extra sauces because every piece of meat or individual fry gets double dipped into the sauces.

This place a guilty pleasure and comfort food for me.

CASH ONLY
Large open seating area, first-come, first-serve
No waiting service -- This is fast food style.
Not really fast -- I had to wait 20 minutes to get my food.
Eating area looked modern and clean.
Bathrooms could use a little cleaning.
Chicken was tender and moist but lacking on the spices / rub.
First time trying yuka...which I guess is sorta like thick fries, but not as tasty in my opinion.

Food was a-okay, value is good, but not as good as The Chicken Place down the street...which is the same price but heavier on the spices and more flavorful.

A good balance of tenderness and juiciness for the great Peruvian chicken.  What makes Edy's chicken the greatest is the subtle crispness of the skin, making it neither too greasy nor too chewy.  Excellently prepared skin is what makes Edy's enter the realm of the greats such as Popeyes and Pollo Campero.  All three are vastly different yet the skin is prepared perfectly.  A side of salad and papas fritas with an amazing mayo-type sauce compliments the Chicken very well.  This belongs in my great underground eats so as long as the food pleases me to the fullest then I do not care how dirty the place is nor do I care how much smaller the portions are compared to every other joint.

Cost:  $5-$11 (pending on if you get soda or not)

Good rotisserie chicken, love the camote (round sweet potato fries), accepts CASH ONLY!  There's an ATM in the CVS 4 stores down, they should install an ATM on-site and make the money off it.   The cash only thing is probably why we don't go here very often, even with the camote.  I wish they took credit cards!

This place has probably 80% Latinos dining there, but the people working the register are bilingual.  They offer baked goods that certainly look decadent and delicious, haven't tried them.  They recently installed a frou-frou coffee bar with gleaming brass implements that I have no idea what they do, but I'm assuming making a damn good cup of coffee!  :)  They seem to be trying for a more upscale vibe.

Oh, and they have Coco Rico soda, which my PRican husband introduced me to... soooo yummy! The only non-diet soda I'll drink because it's so very worth the empty calories :)  One of the only places nearby to have Coco Rico.

Occasionally (and it seems like always when we go there, recently, but probably just our bad luck) they run out of cooked chicken - which when you think of it is actually quite a good sign since they have 4-5 ovens with large wheels full of chickens roasting - so you have to wait until more cook.

This is at the tip of the strip mall on Rte 7 and S. Jefferson St (crossroad between 7 and Columbia Pike).  The restaurant fronts Rte 7, right across from the Skyline Target.

So in all, it's a good rotisserie chicken place, I'd say the chicken is par for the course around here.  It gets nudged up by the sweet potato, the freakishly devoted clientele, and their new coffee bar (really, the brass thingamabobby is purty).

Another rotisserie place with comparable food but credit card and lower prices is "That Chicken Place" on Rte 7, next to the Chili's.

Props to Ryan P.  El Pollo Rico still stands as the best Peruvian chicken in this area.  I don't know what's wrong with me, but I've been to 4 Peruvian chicken places in two weeks.  And this place is just like Yelp has described...A-OK.

Chicken is not too dry, decent amount of seasoning and the sauce is on par.  Can't really go wrong, but this place only takes cash.  Right up the street is The Chicken Place where they give you biggggggg chicken sandwiches AND they take credit card.  Sorry Edy's, gotta evolve with the times, no one carries cash around anymore.

If I were an unhealthy eater, I would totally opt for fried yucca over french fries any day. The Peruvian chicken was the bomb mixed with their special cilantro green sauce. This is a great place to go when you don't have a lot of time, yet don't want to go to a fast food joint. The chicken and fried yucca go perfectly with the bubble gum flavored soda...Inca Kola.

I couldn't agree more with Food L's assesment. Last time my friends and I saw a roach after we had just bought a whole chicken to go...we debated unsure if we should return the chicken or not. We didn't return it....but I won't be eating there again.

To answer your question....yes...some of us actually ate it. I mean--take off the skin and anything the roach might have touched is gone right? Ha.

This place is awesome. When I lived in the area I would frequent this place all the time. My only complaint is that they don't take plastic so I have to make a trip to the bank before I go there. I usually get the steak and chicken sub.. and it is awesome. The fried yuca is crispy on the outside and perfect on the inside. My woman always gets the chicken and it never disappoints. if you want more white sauce just ask I have never had problems getting sauce. the green sauce is good I just recently started enjoing that one also. this place is the best rotisserie chicken place in the area as far as I am concerned.

I am all about this place.  However, I must say, stay away from the steak and stick with the chicken.  This place is usually packed and there are usually cops there (eating, not policing).  Note that this section of Rt. 7 has maybe 10 other Peruvian chicken places in the vicinity.

I usually go with a whole chicken (not just for myself, although I have been known to take out an entire chicken out of boredom).  Rice or fried yucca are pretty good side choices.  The fries are ok.  The Edy's chicken sandwich is pretty freakin good.  Whatever you decide on, lather on the white sauce and you have yourself a complete meal.

For those out to try new things, order up an Inca cola.  It tastes like carbonated bubble gum.  Definitely worth a try.

Mmmm chicken. I went there for the first time last weekend. It was delicious. Two of us split a whole chicken which came with fried yucca and salad. Oh the chicken. It's marinated in beer which is what makes it so tender and flavorful. The meat practically melts in your mouth and falls right off the bone. It's a little greasy, but in a good way. The sauces that come on the side are perfect for dipping. The yellow sauce has a sweetness to it and the green which reminded me of chutney, has some heat to it.

The yucca was perfect. It was crisp, not too greasy and flaky in the middle. They have a bunch of other sides too including rice, fries, plantains, and onion rings to name a few.

We went on a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed with families. The dining area is huge but you might have to fight me for a seat.

I had the half chicken combo w/ yucca and a inca soda. The chicken was very tasty w/ crispy skin. It was perfect w/ the white sauce. The yucca was nice and crunchy. This was my first time trying peruvian chicken so i don't have an reference point to compare  to. However, this place is highly recommended.

Ah the meat! I usually order the half chicken with a side of steak! Ah joy! Again, it was my Peruvian friend (she prefers anonymity but takes the credit) who brought me to Edy's. I love how this is a place filled with families. And the chicken is succulent and shmaltzy. The steak are small round, always tender, steaks (two about the size of breakfast sausage patties). I get the fried yucca. It's like steak fries on steroids... they are tree trunks of pulpy woody starchy fried goldenness. Speaking of gold, this place also has diet Inca cola, for those that order that sort of thing. And my friend always orders choclo, which are corn on the cob of a variety of corn that is large and starchy. Fun snacking food. I also love the green chili sauce and the hollandaisy dipping sauce. And the prices are great! They also have ice cream.

Be warned, at first, the line is so long that you will feel like you'll never find a table. Have no fear. As people start finishing up, send an emissary to politely ask and stake out the table. Also, many of the people in line are ordering out. And if you want to work on your Spanish, well, good luck to you, talking with your mouth full! They call the order numbers out in both languages. Fresh hot chicken on a stick (a spit is a HUGE stick!). What's stopping you! Ah, you gotta drive or take a bus.

Got to love Edy's! Had the #1 Chicken for $6 -- great as always! (1/4 white chicken, potatoes with salad.) Had the sweet potato's, too. Yummy! And, had the strawberry cheesecake -- Wow! (What a great price, too!) One thing I wish she'd add to the menu -- brewed ice tea. But, as always -- Eat at Edy's -- come away satisfied!

Note on "cash only" -- that's about not paying the exorbitant fees banks charge to process debit/credit cards these days. (It's NOT about tax evasion -- they have an electronic register -- easy enough to tabulate their gross sales / taxes for an audit.) So, if you don't like the "bail out" here's your chance to host your own protest -- pay cash.

I haven't tried the steak, but I did try out their Peruvian 1/2 chicken, and it was amazing!  I loved how the meat was juicy and tender, and the skin was to a nice rotisserie crisp!  Dunk it in their mayo-type sauce and you yourself have a meal.  I did not have a problem with the cleanliness of the place - just a great spot to have a great chicken meal and go on your merry way!

I'm sorry if anyone ate here on my behalf.  I finally made it over and I have to agree with the other reviewer.  The chicken here is not peruvian chicken.  It tastes like someone baked chicken without any spices, then broiled it for a few minutes to make sure it's completely dried out.

The sides were ok, but nothing special.

The restaurant itself is very clean and fairly nice.  Definitely very popular locally, always seems to be busy when I drive by and it has a busy lunch crowd.

I definitely won't be coming here again though, sorry.

For many years I was told that Edy's surpassed crax (El Pollo Rico) as the best Peruvian chicken in the DC area.  Alas, when I finally tried it, I was disappointed.  I found the chicken to be not very flavorful and a bit on the dry side.

Update 8/28/08:
I re-visited Edy's yesterday, and my initial findings were confirmed.  The chicken is dry and does not have much seasoning on it.  The skin is nice and crispy, but that does not make up for the other shortcomings.  Despite the lackluster chicken, the sides are quite good.  Urn and I agreed that the yuca is some of the best we've had recently.  The fried plantain was also quite tasty.

Edy's is the bomb diggity, as is its across the street neighbor the Chicken Place. I love it I love the chicken, cheese and onion sandwich and the green and white sauces that come with the chicken are so good-I don't know what they are made of but one is pretty spicy and the other one not so spicy. I usually order a can of Inca Kola to go with it. It is the perfect combination! The best is when you are waiting for your order you can watch this guy chop the chickens in half (cooked chickens) and he uses a big butcher knife mamma mia@!

I've gotten the Mix Platter (? can't remember the name anymore) here a few times, and it's an incredible amount of food - chicken, steak, sausage, yucca, etc. for around $15.  The quality and flavor of the meat in general is not that great though.  The chicken isn't up to El Pollo Rico's standards by any means.  The steak, well, it barely deserves to be called steak.  I didn't find myself minding that much, since I liked the yucca - we don't have that in the El Pollo Rico in Wheaton.  And it was different food from what I usually eat, and not really bad.  But it obviously could have been better.  Regardless, for the amount of food for your dollar, this place is nearly unsurpassed.

I don't know what all the hype is about. On the day that I went to eat here, my chicken was roasted so much, it tasted crispy but lacked the juicy part. The steak was fatty as well and I didn't notice any particularly Peruvian flavors. I give them 3 stars only because there is a bakery shop right next door and you'll probably have more room for desserts since the meal didn't hit the spot.

The best chicken in the region.  Roasted chicken is not only healthier then fried but also more flavoraful. If you like a very litely spiced roasted chicken (if you don't stop reading this review) Edy's is the best .  Adding Yuca as your side plus the house salad (ok but not great) is the best meal you can have for under $20 with drinks for two or more people.  The chicken and Yuca is the best in the area and the price is excellent as well since you get a whole chicken, a side order of Yuca and two personal salads for under $15, hence with $20 you get a couple of drinks as well.  At Edy's you will not be dissapointed but bring cash and be prepared to wait since the chicken runs out very quickly right after it comes out of charcoal roasting pits.

I've been eating here since 1997 and it is still the best.  The chicken with a side of fried yucca cannot be beat.  The chicken here is not as greasy as Pollo Rico and the sauces are always perfect.  I'm certain this place would be five stars on here if all the 'DC foodies' could figure out how to get to an establishment across the river that easn't within walking distance of a Metro station.
