"This is my fave of all the Gyu-Kaku locations, hand down! The service staff is SO unbelievably attentive and caring....always fresh grill…" read more »
I want to give this place five stars for all the childhood memories I have of it, but it's a steakhouse--seriously--and the service can be really good or really bad. I liked it when I was a kid because it was mysterious, because they have sawdust on the floors, because they have a sit-down Ms. Pac-man game, and because the restaurant is divided into different sections that are fun to explore when you're a little kid. I like it as an adult because of all the childhood memories, because it still has sawdust on the floors, because you can get free popcorn while you're waiting, and because they have a photograph of Knute Rockne on the wall.
We were on the way back from seeing Garth, and we were hungry... none of us had been to Edwards before so we didn't really know what to expect...
What we found was the epitome of "average american steakhouse" not that it's a bad thing... charming, wood paneling, most menu items involve red meat and potatoes... warm bread is served before the meal...
the food was acceptable, but there was nothing spectacular about it, save perhaps an above-average clam chowder....
so to sum things up, if someone asked me if I wanted to go here sometime while we were in the neighborhood, I'd probably go.. but I don't think I'd ever go out of my way to come here....

It was a Country and Western evening. Yee Haw!!
We had just left the Garth Brooks concert and were famished for some food. We were driving back to the 909 and wanted some food. Along the way we saw this steak place that a few of us had been wanting to try. So we decided to try this steakhouse visible on the 10 freeway.
We arrived a bit late (as in closing in 30 minutes), but they seated us anyway. The menu was very large, so it was hard to come up with a decision to eat. But I did. I ate the flatiron steak with crumbled blue cheese. It was a miniature sized version, only 6 oz. It came with salad, sourdough rolls (which our table devoured every time they brought out more), and two sides for just over $20.
I know my guy was disappointed that his steak wasn't more rare than what it was, but he still ate it anyway.
The larger dishes provide you plenty of food, so you can easily go home with leftovers. The sides were tasty and plentiful to choose from. They had chili beans, a chunk of cheese, mashed potatoes (very yummy), steamed vegetables, and much more.
For a fairly inexpensive steakhouse, the food is not bad. I'd be interested to try some of their other menu options. One thing that intrigued me was that they have a "Curves" menu. I'd like to try that some time.
Oh, and I gotta give props to this place for their floor decor: SAWDUST!!

Just another average steakhouse. Visible off the 10E freeway so location isnt bad.
Price for the steak at dinner time is around $15-$20 and comes with soup and 2 sides. Their famous clam chowder tasted average. Mashed potatoes and fries isnt anything special. On to the main course.. the classic prime rib wasnt bad. It wasnt the greatest steak ive ever had, but not the worst. However, a great plus to Edwards Steak house is the service. Waitress always comes by every 5-10mins filling our drinks and giving us outstanding service. Everything here was mediocre except the service so thats why i believe it deserved 4 stars.
I have been enjoying this restaurant since the 1970's when I worked at a local business in town. We had all of our retirement lunches here. After that I was sold on their friendliness and eagerness to please their customers. I have a lot of great memories here. This is one of the few places left that are actually happy that you are there. The whole staff is very friendly. They really treat you like you are family. Maybe that's because it is a family owned restaurant (Which is hard to find these days). I love the fact that they have two ways to order your meal. If you are HUNGRY they have a Big Eaters Menu and there's a Little Eaters menu for the ones that don't want a huge meal, both of which are filled with original dishes that were started by the founder, Edward. I particularly like steak and they have plenty to choose from. The side dishes are also great. They have quite a selection to choose from. I would truly recommend this restaurant to anyone that wants a great meal in a friendly and fun atmosphere.

So, 5 stars for their excellent service, and 3.5 stars for the food, which comes out to be about 4.
We ordered their homemade potato chips, which came with a side of weird salsa (opt out of that if you can), but the chips alone were delicious! The breaded zucchini was our second appetizer and was not as tasty as the chips. Our waitress also brought a never ending supply of sourdough and brown rolls to our table.. which was nice.
I ordered the Rib Eye steak and two sides, coleslaw & spinach. The steak was sooooo good.. the sides, not so much. I had a bite of my mom's prime rib, which was good, too.. for prime rib.
Overall, I would take this place over Claim Jumper's any day since there was no wait and the waitstaff were friendlier than the characters in Pleasantville.

Okay..just came back from this place due to a friend's birthday dinner. This honestly is one of the lower end of steakhouses if you're really running on a budget. Its interior arrangement was antique and their floors were scattered with like minced up straws/hay/sawdust? They had quite an unique ambiance with a very traditional vintage cowboy vibe. Pictures on the walls were black n white that runs far back in history. Parking was quite convenient as they have like a pretty huge lot (free of charge). =)
We went in a group of like 12 and pretty much ordered their steak since it's afterall a steakhouse. I personally ordered a flat iron 5 oz steak of their "little eater" menu on medium rare. Yea..i like it a little bloody. It comes with bread, soup, and 2 sides for like under 20 bucks with tips included. Mine was like 15.50 because I ordered the smaller version. To start off, they have some well known clam chowder, but sadly it didn't quite please any of our taste buds. They were not cheap on the ingredients but somehow goes a little too heavy on the herbs and spices. It tosses off that highly sought after fresh seafood aromatic taste of clam. My steak came the way I wanted and blended really well with the blue cheese crumbled on top. The steak fries were quite pleasing as they were thickly cut and well seasoned. Overall the steak was nothing special. It's something that you could get like at a TGIF, Claim Jumper, D&B and similar chain stores. Its taste just didn't put it into the name of a REAL steakhouse.
Overall was a pretty good experience until the server came along. She almost drove me nutz. Like we asked for separate checks simply because it's a pretty big party and calculating how much each and everyone owe is simply a pain in the butt....if u noe wut I mean, but she apparently faded out that part. She came back before we even mention that we were done or ask for a check. She came back and went straight out to us with the check and starting saying that we could start calculating the total and one could give the money to whoever is taking the bill. Apparently my female friend and I were thinking in our minds..."this defeats the entire purpose of asking for a freaken separate check" -_-". Okay...so we sucked it up and went with the flow, but THEN she ended up handing friend and me separate check as requested. We were satisfied n paid like almost 20% on tips but when the change came back we had like less than a dollar in coins. Friend n I just eyed each other and were thinking "what the heck happened to the rest". Worst part was that before we even had a chance to ask she was like "the check didn't include gratuity or tips yet". So that was when friend n I snapped because she was implying that we didn't give tips yet while she like took 4 bucks of change without returning. So we semi talked back n had her go check with whoever did the money and she came back with an excuse that she didn't know what was going on.
End result is pretti good steak for their price. Quite a plentiful meal and unique interior decor. I would not recommend if you're a steak lover that seeks for the best of steaks.

I took my friend here for his birthday yesterday. Boy were we disappointed by the food but the service was GREAT. I especially appreciated the fact that no matter which table you're at, all the waiters/waitresses take care of you. Though, I might have liked them better if there were peanuts to go with that sawdust on the floors ;P
I had the ribeye medium rare with a side of chili and spinach and my friend had the filet mignon with a side of mashed potatoes and vegetables. At best, my ribeye came out medium well and as time passed, it became a well done steak *SIGHS* My friend's filet mignon came out medium and stayed that way, so I guess that's a tad better than mine. He didn't like the flavorlessness of the steak and I could've done without it tasting like the fridge.
The spinach was okay and the chili was very good. My friend's mashed potatoes were very creamy and his vegetables were much too cooked. They didn't look soft but they were, such sadness. We both got the salad with our meal and it was just some red cabbage with iceberg lettuce. I really liked my natural herb dressing but my friend's vinegrette was way too sour =X Their bread would've been fabulous paperweights and well...I won't be going back unless it's happy hour ;P
Their website has old pricing and the food is actually a good couple of dollars more expensive now. And it's easily accesible, just take the Rosemead exit out and go towards Pasadena, there's a Flair St. exit in there.

The short and I don't have time version:
Out of 10pts,
Food - 8pts
Service - 10pts
Decor / Ambiance- 8pts
Average - 4stars
The detailed / cigar conversation version:
SERVICE:
Remember the good old' days when you can get a simple grilled cheese sandwich w/ fresh tomato soup and local drug store? And you had a nice old white lady named Flow serving ya while trying to give ya the facts of life. Nope. They cleared all of that stuff out when I was in Mechanicsville, VA. But the good old southern hospitality still remains. Quite honestly, that's what it felt like when I entered Edward's. It's a different kinda friendly...wasn't fake...and sure hell it wasn't poshy at all. Just like Rudy's in Monrovia (view my previous post)...what Mr. Durden wants...Mr. Durden gets. Actually, when I'm there, its more like..."wut Tyler wunts...he gonna git."
FOOD: (+) positive (-) negative
No drinks. I'm with my 12 year old nephew. So just bring on the pitchers of coke!
Appetizers:
Ceviche (w/ fish)
+ None
- Way way way too sour! I couldn't take it. All I tasted was the lemon juice. I've had ceviche in the past and it was never this sour. I think they just over marinated this bad boy.
Loaded super lean ground beef quesadilla
+ Oh my...the sauted mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos were not over cooked or left raw inside the moist quesadilla. Folks...when they said loaded...they mean it! And I'm not a person about quantity either. This is one of the few times that I was able to have quantity and quality at the same time. The cheese was rich in flavor, while the beef was plump and juicy, and the flour tortilla was grilled to a nice crisp.
- Nope...I'm ordering this one again.
Main/side dish:
Rib Eye Steak (Medium Rare)
+ Like some of the places I've been to, they've seared the steaks on a grill and then in the oven it goes! There were plenty of juices running through my knife as I tore it apart! Medium Rare was definitely medium rare here. And boy was it tender...
- Sad part to all the greatness that was mentioned above is that they left too much char on my steak...so I really couldn't appreciate the juices or the flavor that the steak potentially had.
Clam Chowder (came with the meal)
+ LOL! "Famous" Clam Chowder? Or do you mean infamous clam chowder....LOL!!!
- Stay away...stay far away!!!
Steak House Fries (also came w/ meal)
+ nothing bad about it. You really can't mess this one up.
- none
Deep Fried Jumbo Shrimp
+ It wasn't bad. This is not a place for it, but my little nephew wanted it...so whatever... That little booger can eat.
- sweet seafood flavor is not there. Not my forte.
Prime Rib (we split this bad boy just to try it out...like I said, he CAN eat.)
+ This has to be one of the most tender slices of prime rib that I've ever had. Most places has a bit of a chew to it...but this one had the right amount of juices and tenderness.
- Once again, their meats lack flavor. It was juicy and tender, but somehow and someway they managed to keep it pretty bland. And no I'm not talking about the sodium level/content. There's a flavor in good meats that you'd expect beef to have. What happened??? But nothing was left because that little booger cleaned it up...just like he did with the ceviche. I should bring him along to clean up. I always have stuff left behind...and no I will not stuff it in my fridge and have it just sit there for weeks.
Desert:
NONE. The little booger wanted cold stones...so off we went!
DCOR/AMBIANCE:
Place is pretty clean, aside from the wood chips on the floor, everything seems to be ok. As mentioned, its pretty warm and welcoming there. You can smell the fresh popped popcorn as you enter the door. They serve fresh popcorn at the bar instead of chex mix. Bathrooms aren't very clean, but they're not dirty. Cool place to be with family, but I wouldn't take my dates there
I would return to this place because of its warm, friendly environment. As for the food, its not the best, but its great for a quick fix for beef. I just like the simplicity of it. Everyone needs it every now and then. So overall...I like it!

Visible from the 10 Freeway in Rosemead, this place has been a landmark in the area for years. It's not easily accessible, since you have to take surface streets to get to an area that used to be dominated by the aerospace industry, which is where you'll find Edwards. It's not a fancy place by any means, but it's nice to go somewhere where you can feel comfortable. To me, this place gives off a vibe that harks back to the days when people used to go out for a 2 martini lunch, with a big ol' steak on the side. Whatever happened to the days where people used to "have one for the road"?
I've only had sandwiches here for lunch (I've never been here for dinner), but my favorite was this prime rib sandwich that was fantastic. It's good enough to eat once a week, but I don't think my heart would be up for the challenge, literally. I'd probably need to bring a doctor's note, just to verify that I was physically capable of handling the bounty I was about to receive.
You can sign up for their birthday club, and they will send you a coupon every year for your birthday. It's kind of hokey, but I appreciate the fact that a business goes out of their way to acknowledge their customers, when most the time, other places can give a damn about you.
