Eduardo's is actually my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. Good food, reasonable prices, and a decent atmosphere (although they could invest in some new booth seats).
The decor is fairly stereotypical, but the nice thing about it is that you get quite a few seating options: a party room for very large groups, a newly-added outdoor patio for warmer weather, a bar area if you're looking for a late-night stop, etc. They also have two large main dining areas, so the restaurant can accommodate quite a few people.
My favorite meals? Probably the Eduardo's chimichanga or the chicken flautas. Plus they've got some of my favorite Mexican rice anywhere--great flavor, never overcooked, and not full of icky peppers!
Drinks here are very reasonably priced, with most averaging $5 or less. As a bonus, you also get free chips and salsa when you sit in the bar area--whether you order food or not!
The only points I'm taking off are due to the hours: the place doesn't open until 4, so lunch is never an option--even on days when I'd love to enjoy the nice patio! -

I see this place just about every time I go into Dekalb which is at least once a week, but never felt like going mostly because I heard it was pizza/Italian food joint. Nothing against Italian but it isn't one of those cuisines 'I can't give enough of' addictions. But alas, probably through Yelp I come to know it's Mexican!
Well I didn't bolt out through my door and put the metal to the metal to get there because as much as I like Mexican it ain't Thai or Indain.
But a few weeks ago my lovely bride was craving a margarita and we ventured in and saw it a nice place, but were not looking for a dinner, so I had my Guinness, the bride had her margarita (which she is still craving about almost a month later), thought the bartender was a nice enough guy and decided to try out the eating side soon.
We took ourselves up on that promise recently. There wasn't a whole lot that was screaming 'eat me' as I glanced over the menu (seemed like a lot of the entrees came with some kind of veggie ingredient, which my blood pump guy tells me to avoid (I wish) until my eyes focused on Chimichangas.
I replaced the ranchero sauce (onions - yuk to the gut) with Texas sauce, good old Texas, and the end result was a very filling and satisfying dinner. It was definitely a 'yum yum for the tum tum' meal. The sides of rice and black beans were good too!
My bride had three corn tacos w/ either chicken or beef and the end result for her was that she was a happy lovely bride.
The waitress was very good, attentive, made sure I was happy with Texas, that the spice was boring as in not spicy for my lovely bride which it was.
The ambiance (I feel so sophisticated when I use that word) was nice, it was clean, quiet, kind of dark but not so dark you needed a pen light to look at the food.
The out the door for Eduardos I like to give it s 4 star I'm a fan but need a couple of visits just to make sure I wasn't suffering from any 'Mr Nice Guy' illness, but I will be back -

I am not sure what has recently happened to the food but the last time I went here was over a year ago. I raved to my boyfriend how good the food was and the experience was not tasty at all.
Since that time I have come in for drinks only.....let me tell you the waitress needed to be fired. A group of 5 of us came into the bar area and sat at a table. The waitress came up and took all our orders without writing things down, which hey if you can remember all that more power to you because I couldn't......but then again this is why I never went into the waitressing job. She came back a few minutes later and had to take all our orders again and this time wrote it down. When our drinks did come the orders were mixed up anyway. And this happened on the 2nd round as well. -

Meh - not impressed. If you must have mexican, it's ok. Fajitas were way over salty. Salsa is ok. Nothing to get excited about. Average.

I'm so torn on how to rate Eduardo's... Margaritas deserve 15 stars, the food deserves 2 stars, the wait staff deserves 1 star. I'm going to settle in the middle at a solid 3-star review.
I liked the food just fine when I was in college, but now that I'm an actual adult and know better, the food is just Meh... but... Eduardo's margaritas are the things of my dreams. I'm still on a search to find something similar in Chicago... closest I've come is El Tapatio on Ashland, but they still don't hold a candle to Eduardo's delicious neon-green glasses of love.Listed in: Megaritas!

I've been a few times, and i think that's enough for me.
The bar is nice, the staff has always been attentive and friendly.
The food is just not worth it though. This is a bland, somewhat overpriced restaurant. I've had nachos, tacos, tostadas, burritos, and accompanying sides. Beans and rice were the stand-outs in every case, and they weren't much more than beans, rice, and a little salty seasoning.
I didn't find anything inedible, just bland, greasy, and not of a very high quality. Fine for bar food i suppose, even then a pizza would do you about the same but with more flavor. -

Eduardo's is located in the center of downtown DeKalb and has a nice patio for eating/drinking outside. The bar area is good for catching a game and the dining room accommodates large groups easily.
I am just impressed that they offer a mockmeat option for their tacos/burritos/etc. It's a rare treat to get veganized Mexican food.
I had their vegetarian taco plate (ask for it without cheese, and without the rice, which is cooked in chicken broth) ($8.50). My server was extremely friendly and once I ordered the tacos, immediately informed me about the chicken broth in the rice, without me even asking. That's great service.
The dish consisted of three tacos (I got them with hard corn shells) filled with lettuce, tomatoes and the veggie chicken, which was more like a firmer, chewier type of tofu. It didn't have too much flavor on its own, but worked well in concert with the other ingredients of the taco. The dish also came with a side of refried beans (lard-free by default).
It was a good, standard Mexican meal. It would have been great if Eduardo's also had tofu sour cream and Daiya vegan cheese, but the veggie chicken is a good start.
If Eduardo's added seitan and fried tofu to the menu I'd come back more often.
Lastly, the free chips and salsa they give you were quite good. The chips were perfectly fresh and crispy and the salsa was fresh and spicy; too often do table salsas seem either flat, old or just imbalanced in taste (too spicy, too tart, too salty, etc.). -

Chicken fajitas were pretty good but could have been better (they were kind of tough). Weather was beautiful so we sat outside on the patio. Really bad lighting out there -- could hardly tell what I was eating it was so dark.
Waitress was friendly. Really slow night for a college town. -

This review is only for the bar area, I have never had their food before.
I've been to Eduardo's several times for drinks, and their bar has a menu of special shots. The menu used to be displayed on the wall, but as of last visit they seem to have taken it down. Anyways, you must try the chocolate cake shot, which is Frangelico with a sugared lemon. Mmm- it tastes so much like chocolate cake, its amazing. The dirty girl scout is also delicious, and tastes like a thin mint.
Bonus for free chips and salsa, always excellent service, clean bathrooms, and lack of frat boy douchebaggery. -

I don't understand what happened here. :( I went to Eduardo's in January of this year and the food was so amazing I couldn't shut up about it. Then I went back in June and got the exact same dish (chicken and mushroom enchiladas) and the chicken tasted like it came out of a can. My date and I ended up paying the bill and going to McDonald's for dinner. Their margarita was still very tasty, and the chips/salsa were great. But we only managed to eat a few bites of our entrees. I don't know if it's even worth going back, but I'll give it one more try in a few months since they used to be soooo good.

My buddy recently threw a party there. The restaurant provided an all you can eat appetizer buffet.
The best thing on the table were the chicken wings.
They actually tried rolling up tortillas and deep frying them. No filling.
The vegetarian nachos consisted of chips, cheese and jalapenos. What happened to black beans, corn and guac?
I'm willing to make concessions when friends are picking up the tab, but this is below the minimum standards.
Servers were friendly. -

Went on Sunday afternoon with some of my family. The restaurant decor is really awesome, I kind of felt like I was in Mexico...hahah! You walk in and the bar area is right there. The seating area for the restaurant is separate from the bar, which I thought was really cool, since the bar seating area I thought was huge!
The salsa was good. I didn't have any chips, but my brother said they were awesome! I ordered fiesta fajitas! They were, in fact a fiesta!
Everyone was very satisfied with our meal. I would go back again for sure!Listed in: DeKalb Eats

I remember coming here as an end of term lunch with my entire (8 ppl?) spanish class with Dr. Kerr.
We had a blast, and I only wished we'd done it sooner in the term to bond. Oh and the food was very good and very reasonably priced.
When I got to come here again for my 21st century I got a lot of fun out of the sombrero and polaroid -- which my significant other treasures to this day.
I'm not sure why we always went to Rosita's instead, whenever my mom used to come to visit, as both are equally good. -

Love it!!!!
Friday night, my husband, a friend, and I were debating were to go to get a few drinks and something to eat. It was around 10 and we tossed around a few places, but weren't sure if any were still serving food. I called Eduardo's, and sure enough, they were serving 'til 11:30, and possibly later according to the person who answered! Awesome! We arrived, were quickly seated in the bar, and were on our way.
My favorite dish is the steak tacos -- they're better than anywhere else in town! I also love the free re-fills on chips & salsa because we can easily put down a few baskets among the three of us!
I've also been here for a couple of rehearsal dinners & eaten in the regular dining room. I highly recommend Eduardo's! -

I need to update this because oh good lord do I love Eduardo's.
When I went to NIU back in the late 90s-early 2000s we ate at Eduardo's on a near weekly basis. My then boyfriend (now husband) and I would go on Friday night and order the same combo each week, I think the waitstaff knew what we were getting before we ordered.
Flash forward to 2010 and we try to make an effort to swing by Eduardo's when we are driving through the area, which is generally a few times a year.
Why do I love this place so much? VEGGIE MEAT. They used to have veg chicken and veg beef, but they now only offer the veg chicken. Still, the Green Enchiladas with veg chicken are what I want to eat for my last meal on earth. Yumyumyumyumyuuuuummmmmm!!!! Of course the chips and salsa and margaritas are good as are the tacos. I do miss the veg beef for the tacos....
The service is usually college student heavy and the decor is standard for a Mexican restaurant.
Thank goodness I don't live near Chicago any more because I would be at Eduardo's all the time, thus increasing my gas bill and caloric intake.
I miss you Eduardo's!! See you on my next road trip!!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Read the reviews and was looking forward to Mexican food in Dekalb. What a joke but then again what do you expect from the mid-west!
The food was below par and the service was awful! The restaurant wasn't even busy yet the server was hardly around. He put one basket of chips and a small bowl of salsa for 6 people! We continually had to ask for things like water, more chips and salsa etc.
The food was cold and my beef tacos looked and tasted like they ran down to Taco Bell. The bill came to over $100 and we could had eaten better at home and pocketed the difference.
Find another place and don't believe the reviews, that is of course if you've never had real Mexican food! -

Ahh I have eaten at Eduardo's often and each time without any disappointment. My favorite is the tacquitos grande washed down with a beer or sometimes fancy margarita (with tequila chaser). I would say that Eduardo's delivers well when you are looking for a sit down dinner or a place to hang out and have a few drinks with friends.

Reasonably priced food; very large portions. I've been twice and would love to try their cheesecake but have never had room.
A fair number of vegetarian selections; a couple of items are available with vegetarian mock chicken.
The chile con queso (basically melted cheese mixed with pico de gallo) is surprisingly good, if impossible to eat with the tortillas that come with it. Ask for more chips.
The "healthy quesadilla" was quite good; I got it with mock chicken. I was afraid that ordering cheese with my cheese would be too much, but they pack enough stuff onto the plate that it wasn't an issue. The low fat black beans are also surprisingly good. -

This is a great place when you need a break from the Thai Pavilion. Major points for the mock chicken.

Solid Mexican food, reasonable prices, and good margaritas. This is a big place and they can handle a large group.

Split review: 5 stars for the bar, but only 1 star for the food. It may have been a fluke, but something I ate here made me sick. I've eaten here times over the years and not had any issue, however it's hard to imagine me eating here again. In the future I'll stick to the nachos and salsa at the bar.

i hate to pound on a restaurant in a struggling little place like downtown Dekalb, but the food here is jive. 7 bucks gets you 3 flavor-free tacos, American-style. the salsa is stupid hot. sadly, long gone are the days of San Marcos.
