A spectacular place --and filled with all the East Bay of Mobile and Spanish Fort has to offer. I was visiting the Mobile area and was taken here by friends. I must say they do seafood right. It's a great atmosphere, especially out in the early evening on the deck, watching the sun go down.
We ordered a lot of items and they were all sensational. Special mention should go out to the gumbo. Fantastic. I had the fried seafood platter --the fish fresh and cleanly fried up, served with very plump shrimp. The cheesy grits and turnip greens as sides did not disappoint. I had never had the turnip greens before. There is an odor to the greens and some people don't like them, but for the first few bites they are great. Crab claws came next and so too did the seafood salad. All in all just divine. I would like to go back and spend more time in the kitschy souvenir shop inside.
We were visiting and this was recommended by a local. The atmosphere here was great and the Redneck Cocktail totally rocked. The Yo Mama's Platter was A LOT of food. The prices were rather high considering that it's in MOBILE, ALABAMA. The food was good and I would go again, but I think I might seek out a more reasonably priced spot if I'm ever back in the area.
Home of Yo Mama's Platter. Yo Mama said, "Don't eat this much in one sittin'"
It was a lot of food. For about $36, a massive plate of fried fish, shrimp, scallops, crab claws, and oysters resting on a bed of french fries and hush puppies. On the side, cole slaw, crackers, gumbo, cheese grits, and turnip greens. Chocolate drenched devil's food cake for dessert. Of course made to share.
It's nice to sit on the deck so you can see the bay and the jumping fish and someone said an alligator? Unfortunately when I went it was humid and there were lovebugs everywhere, but surely it's not always like that.
They have really really good fried oysters in cornmeal. Shrimp perfectly cooked.

I seem to like Ed's better than the other people who actually live in Mobile. maybe I haven't lived… Read more »
The view is fantastic. The food and service are mediocre. The Original Oyster House food far surpasses Ed's.
The fried seafood is pretty good here - anything else I've had was disappointing. They are certainly generous with their portions - and its hard to beat the view. But there is much better seafood on the Causeway and around the Bay. Namely - the Original Oyster House. You can't miss there. Another great spot on the Causeway with plenty of local flavor is the Blue Gill - been around forever! There's a reason for that!
Just plain old fried seafood. The view is nice at sunset. I prefer my Causeway seafood at the Original Oyster House or Felix's.
