Edo definitely delivers a solid sushi experience. All of the food is really cheap, fresh, and delicious.

As for the restaurant itself, there are a few things that can be improved. The hot tea costs 75 cents, which makes me a little annoyed. When my sister and I met a friend here, they only gave us one menu. It was a little bizarre. They also forgot to give us our check, despite the restaurant being empty.

I'll probably come back here for the cheap, tasty treats, but I certainly won't come if I have a time restriction.

I'm babysitting my cousin who lives right next door and I'm craving tuna. So I order a tekka don and tuna maki. (I'm very obsessed with tuna.)

Food came fast, fresh, and there are TONS of tuna in my box (usually there's only a couple of pieces), so I got nice and full. Disappointed that the tekka, which was $15 (pretty average), did not come with a miso soup or salad like it does in any other japanese restaurant. But it was pretty good and I would eat there again.

My experience would have been 5 stars if the lady wasn't snappy and not particularly friendly on the phone.

a couple friends and i came here becuase we were craving udon and yelp pointed us here. we see a sign outside...spend $15 and its free unlimited house wine. we arrived at 730 on a saturday night...completely empty. whatever, we examine the diner-length ghetto menu and we piece together items to get the unlimited wine.

on friend ordered 4 rolls and a miso soup to get $15, i decided to do an udon and a roll. i forgot what it was called, but instead of being wrapped in seaweed and sushi rice, it was cucumber...different!

udon was pretty filling. a lot of food for the price. and the ladies kept the wine a comin. they would give you glasses filled to the brim. and i mean the brim. probably 8 oz pours. the white wine was drinkable...it did taste like welch's grape juice mixed with some chardonnay while the red wasnt too yummy. but at usual prices of $5 per glass, i feel like i got my moneys worth 4 glasses later...

2 pm. I'm hungry. Bento box craving. Walk by. Looks legit. Take out!

1 hour later...I'm so full, it hurts. I got the chicken katsu bento, which came out to a very affordable $8.13 (including tax) for lunch. It included a salad, one mini eggroll, 6 piece california roll, TWO chicken katsu cutlets (still piping hot 10 mins later), tonkatsu sauce and a serving of rice large enough for two people.

Also, the bento was packaged really nicely for takeout in a plastic bento box. Good serving sizes of tonkatsu sauce and soy sauce included.

There was also a great $8 lunch special where you get two sushi rolls off of a list (all the standard basic rolls are on it), soup and salad. That's next on my list to try.

Overall, go Edo! My diet will hate you but my stomach will love you. Looking forward to future lunch time visits.

It tries. But just doesn't quite make it...just not quite..ok...I mean more like...NOT even close.
If you've never had really good sushi you might think it's passable.
Even good.
But if you've had fresh, masterfully made sushi...
it's not even really  palatable.
The "lovely" roll and the *fill in whatever funky fusion roll* were gummy and a little fishy.
The uni was icky.
The service was so-so.
The location seemed a little low budget-y, not pristine, which you kinda need if you're going to be dealing with raw fish.Me thinks anyway.
I had had their  takeout, that didn't seem SO bad, mediocre kinda, but the restaurant sealed the deal for me.
No Mas.

The servers are nice to us, as well as the owner. It's a simple place, doesn't look to fancy. But the food is great. Average person spends about $15.

Truly recommend the Tempura Ice Cream (Ask for half Red Bean and Green Tea) - It's too good.

And they always refill the green tea. I eat there once a week.

So, like most every other bohemian fashionista in the city, I found myself in Union square, rubbing shoulders with the crusty punks, the local art hawkers, and the tourists. A friend had tipped me off to a little hole in the wall Japanese place up off the North side, though, and being the lemming that I am, I figured why not.

I got there immediately after work (viciously early, I know). We were greeted by two friendly servers and two dedicated sushi guys behind the counter in a dining room with mostly 2 and 4 top tables.  Service was stellar, but there were only 4 people eating (two couples). Beer was reasonably priced, and everything but the sushi is startlingly cheap.

I was frankly expecting lower quality, but I ordered the Nabe Yaki Udon and a Sapporro and was absolutely delighted. We're talking bare bones, but well executed udon here. Little delicious globs or animal renderings floating at the top of the broth, perfect noodles, and egg. If you know how to properly eat the udon bowl, you're in for a long and worthwhile meal off one dish.

I don't give this place 5 stars for one reason. Sushi. It's much more hit and miss than their other fare. My friend ordered an avacado/portabello mushroom/goat cheese/chili pepper roll... and really, I had to wonder what fever dream inspired this. Not texture variance, flavorless ingredients, and an over all lack of conceptualization for the dish (or apparent taste test) seemed to hold it back. The sashimi was good, though, and reasonably priced, but as with all Japanese American eateries, sushi will tally up your bill faster than people forgot about Farrah Fawcett due to Jacko.

So, Edo... I must say, it punches higher than it should. While any other place in a 40 block radius would have had me laying down $20 or more for the meals I've had there in the last few weeks, I've yet to spend more than $15 (often as little at $8 for more food than I can handle). I ate there 3 more times, and will be going back. Hell, the waiters recognize me now. No check we've had has ever amounted to more than $35 between two people.

Edo: Get some.

I think for Japanese food its very reasonably priced. I have found all my food to be fresh and always felt good enough to go back at least once a week, okay and its across work so it makes it wicked convenient and they deliver!

I get Sake to go now and so I drink on my lunch break... oh im a bad girl heh.

Good! Quick! Amazing!

This place had the freshest tuna that i  have had in a long time. Not only was this place fresh, it was amazing! The menu was like 1000 pages long, you could go there everyday and not have the same thing twice.

The people we work there are quick and thoughtful, always looking to help. Great location right off Union Square. Go here and get the Bento Box with, you will be stuffed!

A-OK.

Had the salmon teryaki lunch.  $7.50, great portion, not the absolute best quality, but still enjoyable, and for the price a good deal.  Included salad and soup are good, and you get a decent amount of rice as well.

Eh.  Exactly!!!!

First, it's owned by Chinese people (just kidding.  I love Chinese people but stick to Chinese food.  Please!!!)
Second, service sucked.
Third, food sucked.

Do I need to say more?

Found this place randomly through MenuPages awhile back. I've yet to be disappointed with the quality of the fish or the service. I brought a friend once who wasn't very fluent in the ways of sake and our server was not only patient and informative, but offered to bring her out a different bottle of sake at no additional charge until she found one that she liked.

Don't come here expecting really fancy snooty sushi because you won't find it. You'll just find REALLY good sushi at a more than fair price. I can be completely stuffed with sake and all for under $25 .

I've been getting Edo delivered for a long time now and finally decided to write a review.  First, they're on seamlessweb. Points. The sushi has always been fresh and good. Points. For the price it's just tops. Points. The late lunch specials are good deals and you can get them pretty much all day it seems. Points. When I ordered today it came in about 20 minutes. Points. If you're expecting the best sushi in the city, go somewhere fancy and make sure you're ready to pay. If you want consistently good sushi for a great price, get yourself some Edo. Oh, and the udon with tempura is a killer deal for dinner. You get a ton of noodles; enough for two meals easily and it's under 10 bucks I think. Edo, if you were not on seamless web you would have the honor of being saved into my phone for constant and quick ordering. Keep it up.

I come here once a week for my sushi lunch special. 2 rolls, soup, and salad for $7.95. The sushi is fresh and the service is fast. I have been working in the area for almost 2 years and this is one of the best sushi lunch specials. Although, if you want brown rice on your sushi, there is an extra charge($1). I used to go to Hani on 22nd n 7th, but they bumped their prices up and make you choose one, soup OR salad.

I confess I have only had delivery from this restaurant (via the ever-wonderful http://Delivery.com (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), but it was an interesting experience nonetheless.  Most of the menu is your standard Japanese restuarant fare, but there are a couple of interesting highlights, like the fusion rolls.  Grilled portobello and goat cheese roll? Chipotle shrimp roll? Maple salmon roll? Why not!

...honestly, the fusion is not entirely successful, but the offerings are pretty good, nonetheless.

We wanted to go for sushi around the W hotel and yelped this place. It was pretty empty when we arrived at around 9:30pm. The sushi was surprisingly..well..how shall i say? Delicate...? Especially for a cheaper type of sushi joint.

We had a sushi deluxe set, an appetizer and a Fantasy Lobster roll of sorts - it all added up to about $41 including tip. Not too bad, really. The place isn't fancy, like the other Yelpers mentioned, its really a simple looking restaurant but with interesting fusion sort of rolls and appetizers.

- food was fine
- i had ordered sake, but the cup had alot of dust in it... so there was a bunch of dust particles floating around in my sake.. like, maybe the cup had been sitting on a shelf for months? i dont know..
- by the time i had realized it, i had already almost finished it all..

- umm... i could go elsewhere..

So I try every Friday to go to a restaurant with my friend Jenise, who I know through Hip-Hop class at my gym.  I discovered this restaurant walking around Union Square, and try to come here once every month or two.

My guilty food pleasure is Hibachi Chicken and Steak.  I guess this craving comes from the many hibachi-style restaurants I frequented as a teen in my hometown of Wichita, KS.  I come here for that specfically, but from what I can tell, the menu is pretty extensive - its a few pages long.  The decor isn't wonderful, but you really come here for the food.  It's not ever really that crowded either, so you can expect some decent service.

Very mediocre sushi in a good location and "normal" atmosphere.  The service is actually very good and friendly (in fact, I left my umbrella and they held on to it for me until the next day when I picked it up!), but overall I probably wouldn't go back.

Came here with a fellow yelper recently for dinner... walked in.. pretty empty.. not always a good sign... simple decor.. wooden tables.. wooden floors... not much stuff on the walls... paper napkins and wooden disposable chopsticks... fancy this place is not... the waitress was really polite and sweet... always came by to check to see how we were doing... the fellow yelper had chicken teriyaki... simple grilled chicken with teriyaki sauce... it was yummy, but nothing outstanding... i had the chicken curry... this WAS NOT japanese style curry at all... more like chinese/malaysian style curry...  and the dish was HUGE... i could have made 3 meals out of it... it was edible, but not really my style.... i heard the sushi is good, but i'll never know... good thing is it's really cheap...

not too shabby. not too fantastic, either. we went here as a last resort. all the other restaurants in union square were packed up the yin-yang. we stumbled upon Edo, a japanese joint which held no more than 4 people inside when we walked in. however, it was a good scene for us- i don't like overcrowded/loud places anyway.

the staff there is extremely nice. the bowing, the smiling, the bowing, and asking if everything was okay... i liked the service. the menu was interesting... the fusion stuff makes you curious, but not so much that you'd actually order one. i had the Ten Donburi. which wasn't a donburi at all. i was pretty disappointed about it- but the tempura veggies and ebi (shrimp) were fantastic! i love that dipping sauce! i also ordered up a crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll... no on the spicy. it's like they forgot or something. boo! my friend ordered some salmon sashimi and yellowtail rolls. i assume he enjoyed it.

overall, the food was mediocre- but the service made up for it.
