Surprise!!!!
This place is not in Manhattan and it could give any Manhattan pub a small run for it's money.
Clearly a lot of locals come here and are regulars here for many reasons. They have a variety of ales and I tried a little Hoegaarden which was light and summery. The burger, medium, had a good flavor and although it was simply put together, the tastes of those simple ingredients came through perfectly. A good burger is supposed to be quite simple. The calamari was not from fresh but from frozen but the breading was crispy and fresh and they brought out cocktail sauce on request (normally served with marinara sauce.) Arugula salad was not dripping with dressing which is always welcomed and is served with a soft cow's cheese that matched the sharp arugula well.
I did not see any surprising out of the way selections on the menu as far as food, but what they served was done well.
The decor was classic pub decor but clean. The wait staff was friendly and attentive.
Place wasn't overwhelmingly good, basic stuff. But that's why I went. I wanted a sloppy burger and a beer. I got what I was looking for in that regard. I thought our waitress was very nice, very helpful. She let us know there's a burger night on Tuesday, this way the burger isn't as expensive and they don't charge extra for each additional topping. Nice place though and I'll be making my way back on a Tuesday in the future.
Good burgers and Friendly wait staff. I used to come here all the time when I was in high school so I don't really know much about the drinks and bar... But I know it's a great place to sit back and relax with familiar faces.
I will try to go back real soon for the great food!
My grandfather used to drink here, back when it was called Publican's.
If you knew my grandfather, you'd see why this is worthy of the much-coveted "Automatic Five Star" rating. It's like Edison's somehow just jumped up & grabbed on of those crazy bouncing blinking stars in Super Mario Bros & is now invincible.
Other than that, I've got nothing.
On my last trip to NY I was actually out on the island with a car so I drug my coworker here. I'd been dying to check it out ever since reading The Tender Bar and having all the drunken memories of my college days flood back. I knew I'd hit most of the bars in Manhasset but couldn't remember which exactly was which. But it all came back to me (I guess maybe there might actually be something to that Buffalo Theory) as I entered. I don't remember ever making it past the long bar before but there is actually a good-sized dining area in the back. We ate dinner back there before making our way to the bar. The food is decent, not exceptional, but good for a pub. The beer selection isn't spectacular by west coast standards but for NY it was pretty good. But of course the service was excellent. The best things about NY bars are the service and the atmosphere; you can always count on striking up a conversation with the bartender, owner or just about any patron. Edison's is no exception.
From the street, this looks like a small pub, but once inside, you'll see they have a long bar area that opens out into a large dining room in the back. Food quality is several steps up from typical pub-fare with a wide selection ranging from burgers and salads to steak and fish entrees. It still has the pub feeling, though, with dark wood paneling and dim lighting. I love this popular neighborhood restaurant! My only complaint is that the bill always seems to come out higher than I expect for this type of place (even when drinks are few!).
