Ok, let's start by confirming that this place is not Pebble Beach, it's not even Montrose Beach.

I have been playing at Edgebrook for more than five years and I feel that it is the best golfing value in all of Chicago.  At less than $40 for 18 holes and a riding cart and the ability to get on almost anytime you want, it ends being a hidden gem.  Other courses are going to charge $60 or more for 18 plus cart plus at least 45 minutes to get to them.  From Wicker Park, I have gotten there in 20 minutes and walked right on.

They have a very liberal policy with refreshments which also saves some cash versus paying $5 or more per beverage at a nicer course.  The course is not the most challenging, but it what it is with a variety of par fours and threes.

Based on just the facilities, this place is a one star.  If you are a good golfer and have even the modest expectations of how a golf course should look like and be maintained, this is not the place for you.  But if you are like me, and you are a beginner golfer with no real skills and want to golf as cheaply as possible without many people on the course, come to Edgebrook!  You can spot me there on some Saturdays with my hot pink golf balls!

Pretty basic short course that is one of the least crowded of the Forest Preserve courses. This hacker doesn't mind it because I'm not very good. It can get pretty waterlogged and muddy. Also the people that play the FP courses generally have no etiquette. I'm not talking about wearing collared shirts either. You can see we are all backed up, so what is up with driving into us? And please repair your ball marks.

This course still has the concrete tee boxes, but they let you tee off on the side on a patch of dirt.  Not ideal since the lie is usually pretty crappy.  Not very well maintained - there's more weeds, clovers and patches of dirt in the fairway than grass.
Still worth it for beginners or someone who wants to get in a quick round.  No par 5 and the par 4's are pertty short.  Good value during the week for $20 w/cart and $23 on weekends.  Print out the coupon from the fpg website.

Well, I'm not a professional golfer. I am a professional Yelper/Bowler...so this is my opinion on this course:

I liked it. The concrete tee box on each hole is kind of ghetto, not sure why that is the case. The price for 18 holes plus a cart is very inviting though. They also take good care of their fairways and a few of the holes are challenging. I was here for a bachelor party, and I had no complaints at all. The course ran smooth with a few dogleg holes, which always turns me on. I like to be challenged a bit, especially on a nice course.

The best thing about this course? It's a forest preserve course so you might see a deer. Or a mama and a baby as I did! How very exciting to drive a few minutes out of the insanity and see some deer.

The course is pretty basic and that's just fine for a rookie like me. I've been to more challenging courses, but really for me this course does the job. I have fun, I'm outside, and I'm enjoying summertime. I just wish I didn't have to share the place with douchebags. Like the ones golfing right on our asses so much that they drive and almost hit me while I'm in the middle of the fairway patiently waiting for the group ahead of me to finishing putting. Have some etiquette please!

The best thing about this course is that you can always get a deal to golf 18 holes with a cart for pretty cheap.  The downfall is that you're sharing the fairways with disc golfers.  Last season, the tee boxes were mats, which I don't like because I break a tee every hole.  I don't know if they got some complaints or what, but this season there's the option of teeing off from a regular grass(or dirt on some holes) tee box.  This is much nicer, but the location of some of the tee boxes is akward.  The staff is very friendly, the course is in decent condition, and it's not really that tough of a course.  You don't have to hit your drive a ton to do well here, which works well with my game.  Nice place to go for a cheap round a couple times a season.

"Hidden Gem of the county courses"  Many local patrons stay true to this unique golf course.  With mats on every tee, this course is perfect fo the beginner or for someone wishing to get in a quick 18.  One bad effect, stay away when it rains.  A few of the holes flood when it rains especially hard, but otherwise a good investment for anyone looking to play
