This place was GREAT! Just make sure you make an appointment in advance because they seem to always be busy. I needed an oil change and they saved me $20 compared to what the dealership would have charged.
Dennis was who helped us and he just seemed like someone you can trust. No more Jiffy Lube for me!
After perusing through all of the possible auto mechanics in the area, Ed Little seemed to be the logical answer. I rolled the dice and was glad to have brought my problem to Bob at Ed Little. I ended up getting my problem fixed in no time and haven't had any issues since.
I was charged exactly what I was quoted, and Bob was really just the nicest, genuine guy and I dug his old-school steeze. The man's brain is like a file cabinet. He meets you once and despite the dozens of customers he has coming through in a single afternoon, he recognizes you and remembers your name. He really is a neighborhood auto mechanic and endears himself to you.
But - and I hate to be a stickler - whoever worked on my car broke this little component of my seat belt buckle, and now I have to go through six kinds of hell every time I get in the car to even buckle in. Kind of ironic how I went in to get one thing fixed and left with another thing broken.
Meh. I'll still go back in the future. But when I do, I'm making sure the buckle checks out, too.
So, when I took my friends 1990 Toyota Camry here in an attempt to get it SMOG certified, I was certain I was going to end up spending a lot of money.
When I arrived, Dennis came out, I explained the problem and before 5 minutes past (but after a brief flurry of motion) he reported that the EGR pump was dead and that he could replace it for cheap.
Not only that they finished the repair in under 2 hours!!!!!!
BEST........MECHANIC...........EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I took my car here based on the Yelp reviews, and I was extremely pleased to find that everyone was right about this place! I came in with a fuel leak and a warning from some shady Jiffy Lube employee that my timing belt was about to snap. I left with the fuel leak gone and a clean bill of health (they did a bunch of diagnostics a dealer would have charged $$$ for as part of the repair- no extra charge!). The timing belt is fine and won't need replacing for another 20k miles. Ed Little is honest, fast, and good, and they have me as a customer from now on.
I took my 96 Chevy Impala in because it was overheating and was having power steering issues. Bob stopped what he was doing (they were extremely busy) and came over to take a peek, and gave me an estimate on a new water pump within an hour. Two hours later, he called and let me know he wouldn't be doing the work because I had a blown head gasket and advised me that I'd be best off swapping the motor. He didn't charge me anything for the diagnositc and advice. This is the way mechanic shops should be: helpful, friendly, full of good advice, willing to help out a struggling customer, and most of all HONEST. It's just a shame I live too far away to make them my regular mechanic!
This place rocks. I found it on Yelp and have been very happy with their service. They were informative, helpful and quick. I would definitely go back again.
A while back I had a problem with my engine and thought it was catastrophic (loud noises, no power, smells, etc.). When I called and spoke to Bob about it, he thought it would be a waste of money to have my car towed to the shop, just in case they couldn't fix it. So what did he do? He offered to come to my house to check it out for me! Granted, I live just a few miles from the shop, but this was above and beyond.
When he arrived, he was able to locate the problem, and he had brought the necessary tools to fix it within ten minutes. He said nothing about price and when I offered to pay for it, he refused to take it and simply said "you'll be back."
I certainly will!
Honest Mechanic! Old school work ethic! Nice guys!
Saved me $600!
The dealer, Martin Cadillac, had my car for two days and was still unsure of the problem. They said I needed new parts in my brake system. Turned out I was just low on fluid.
Ed Little has my future business! I'll post more in the future...
WONDERFUL SERVICE--CHARMING MECHANICS--FAST SERVICE--NO FUSS--NO BS--GENEROUS & GRACIOUS!
Once again, Yelpers did not disappoint. After reading several positive reviews regarding this fantastic mechanic I called, and received same day and quick service from Bob.
Background: I aggressively hit a low speed bump over the weekend, and developed a disturbing rattle under the hood. I called Ed Little Auto Service first thing Monday morning, and got good ol' Bob on the phone. I described the problem, and though he said they were booked until Wednesday, my problem sounded simple enough that he would take a look if I were able to swing by in the afternoon.
Once I arrived, Bob stopped what he was doing and took a look under my hood to diagnosis the problem. He gathered that I'd knocked some bolts loose on my heat shield. He asked if I had a few minutes to have one of the guys lift it up and fix the problem. I waited for maybe 10 minutes tops, and he handed my keys back to me. NO CHARGE! "Just tell a friend" is what he said with a grin so big I thought I'd melt. He added that if I ever had any problems to call him, and if he couldn't fix it, he'd direct me to the right place.
I said well you are my new mechanic, and he graciously bowed his head and said, "I appreciate that. Thanks!"
This is the way business should be done!
So here's to me telling a friend or two or one thousand!
Not much more to add to what everyone has said other than my 5 stars. Great service, great communication, friendly, professional, and honest.
Definitely make a reservation before you go though!
I am one of those people that hate getting my car serviced. I am so worried about getting ripped off. Anyway, I was up for my 60k service for my Honda Accord. I was just going to bite the bullet and take it to a dealer. However, I turned to Yelp and I am sure glad that I did.
Upon meeting and talking to Bob, I just knew that he would take care of me and not rip me off. A little over an hour later my car was done for far less than I would have paid at the dealer. I would definitely recommend Ed Little Auto to all my friends and plan to start getting my oil change there (although more expensive, I think that it will be worth not getting hassled by the people at Jiffy Lube and scared that my car is going to break down as soon as I drive it home...)
One note for new Yelpers who want to use Ed Little, you need to make an appointment and it will likely take 2-3 days to get in...but it is worth it!
These Guys are the best! Bob kept me updated and informed the whole time. He was totally honest about the condition of my Suby and he got me through SMOG without pushing unnecessary and costly repairs on me..
I recommend these guys 100%!!!
There are two types of people in the world that I just don't trust: doctors and mechanics.
However, Ed Little comes the closest out of any other mechanic I've been to in LA. Bob (the head mechanic that deals with customers) is top notch. He takes the time to explain things and even does a good job over the phone of not making you feel rushed even though he has a bunch of other customers.
We went in for a service, some brake noise, and a transmission fluid leak. We made an appt, walked right in and talked to Bob about the work that needed to be done. I don't want to build this place up too much that people are expecting like a dealership waiting room with customer service people running around. It's a straight up garage with a small desk where you deal with payment and drop off your keys. As we were standing there while Bob printed out an inspection checklist to review with us (which btw, matched exactly with the owner's manual maintenance schedule), I noticed the wall of awards on the back wall. This place is legit: Angie's list, CitySearch, Yelp... I was impressed.
The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because we've only been here once so far so I just didn't have enough to go on. However, I do/will continue to recommend this place to other people even though I'm still not sold on mechanics yet.
All these other reviews were totally correct about the service you get at Ed Little Auto Service.
I made an appointment on Monday to bring my car in on Thursday, and Bob (I'm assuming it was Bob, anyway) was quite nice on the phone.
I came in as soon as they opened at 7am, Bob went over what I wanted done, even an intermittent check engine light, and said he'd give me a call.
I walked home since I live quite close, and at 9am my phone started ringing. He told me that everything looked fine, even the brakes I was worried about, and that he looked over the check engine light problem, and said that it was probably the air/fuel sensor so he cleaned the connections, but didn't recommend replacing it, since it's expensive. The best part is he didn't charge for that extra work!
My car was given a clean bill of health, all for the cost of an oil change.
I'm so coming back here in the future. They're awesome!
My car had a long-running engine issue that would have prevented me from passing emissions tests, and multiple mechanics had tried and failed to remedy the problem. No such trouble for the crew at Ed Little! The mechanic told me he'd call me later in the day with a diagnosis, and sure enough he called three hours later and explained each individual problem...and then he patiently explained them again when I said "I don't understand any of that"...and then again when I said "I was lying when I implied any knowledge of automobiles or their engines".
The car was ready a few hours later, and the price was on the lower end of what I had been told to expect. They had me come back after driving 100 miles to ensure that all the fixes worked, and they referred me to a good body shop to fix a dent. Nice people, great service, fair pricing...Ed Little is awesome.
Excellent service, very friendly. Dennis was a pleaure to deal with, and my Toyota Rav 4 runs better now that when I first purchased it. Highly recommend.
man, time and time again, this place outshines the rest.
just did a transmission fluid change and they wouldn't change my brakes. Unlike the other places, they said i've got 10k more miles.
Worth waiting and getting an appoinment for.

The only thing to complain about at Ed Little's is that this five-star review on Yelp means you might have to wait a few days for an appointment. But the guys there are so nice, they'll probably try to squeeze you in if you had an emergency and are willing to get there at the crack of dawn. They are so honest and fast. They care about their reputation as honest mechanics. They once sent me somewhere else because my break pads were under warranty there. They explain things to you and there is no unnecessary work. There is no reason to take your car anywhere else.
I have taken both my Nissan Sentra, and my Honda Civic here for service. The guys are very honest and do not do anything that does not need to be done. I asked about my transmission on the Civic and he tested it out and said don't do anything with it. He could have made a lot of money no doubt if I'd had to do something with it.
I do wish they were open past 5pm though as getting there before I finish work is difficult.
I had this annoying clicking sound that was driving me nuts for months. Bob was once again my life savior. He figured it out in no time and remedy it just as fast. Best of all, free of charge!
Way to go Bob!

I've been meaning to write my review for quite a while. I usually take my Toyota SR5 to my regular mechanic near my office in Pasadena. But when I have car trouble near home I'm kind of in a pickle. So I turned to Yelp when my Truck was having issues. I had a phantom scraping sound that came and went at it's own discretion.
I spoke to Dennis, he was great and very patient explaining not just what he found that needed repairs, but also gave me great advise on repairs that weren't so urgent and could wait. His price was right so now I have 2 great mechanics. Ed Littles here in Culver City and the other in Pasadena.
Ed Little Auto Service is the BEST! I'm never taking my Jeep anywhere else for any kind of mechanical work...and all thanks to the great Yelpers, without whom I never would have found this place!
My Jeep is approaching 60K miles. I just had my brake pads replaced at the dealer a couple months ago...that plus a few other things cost about $1200! Ridiculous. Now my steering wheel was starting to shake every time I pressed the brakes. I thought this was probably a bad thing. I called Ed Little on a Friday, talked to Bob, and he said to bring it in first thing on Monday morning. And that they would be able to give me a ride back to Santa Monica to get to work on time. Bob knew exactly who I was when I pulled up my car (and I had never been there before)...I had a great conversation with Dennis on the way back to SM...and my car was ready later that afternoon. Final cost for resurfacing the rotors? $156.
Don't go to other mechanics (or EZ Lube or Jiffy Lube) and places that try to upsell you (and particularly take advantage of women customers, as most auto places do!) Take your car to Ed Little!
I've been meaning to go to this place for months just based on all the 5 star reviews, and last Friday I finally took my car in to get my brakes checked. The day before, I called 2 other Firestones and they estimated that I'd be charged $215 to fix my rear brakes and get new brake pads. I didn't understand all the other mechanic jargon, but luckily, when I came to this mom n' pop shop, Dennis showed me the brake pad and how I could tell that it was wearing out. He corrected some rumor that a different mechanic told me so he was very honest and only charged me $175!
When they were about to fix my brakes, he asked me if I wanted a ride anywhere (not making a pass whatsoever) and I was shocked. "You guys do that?!" I was about to walk 2 miles home so I can take a nap while they were working on my car since I read that it can take longer than expected. He said, "Sure, I mean we can give you a ride if it's like 5 mins away." He said everything would be done in one hour though, so I decided to walk to the next block to the coffee shop he suggested. It was a cute artsy coffee shop, but on my walk there, I ended up passing by a thai massage place. I heart massages and usually I get one on my day off, so there I was being uber productive getting my car fixed AND getting a crazy $45 thai massage next door at the same time. It was the best hour of my week!
They actually fixed my car in less than an hour and left me voicemail since I was still getting my massage. When I walked over, I apologized that I was late due to the massage but Dennis didn't mind at all and started talking about his thai massage experiences. I thanked him for fixing my car so that I could drive safely to Vegas that night. We then started sharing gambling stories and he even drew pictures to teach me how to play this card game called Let It Ride. He was extremely honest and hospitable, so I will definitely be coming back here again!
I would recommend Ed's Auto Shop to my great grandmother. Bob is a cool cat.
Bob was great and very helpful. My car knowledge is lacking (to say the least), but he was sure to explain everything to me and I felt completely comfortable bring my car to them. They are definitely my new first choice for help with car trouble.
My brakes were sounding funny and I was overdue for an oil change. I went to Ed Little Auto last Thursday based solely on the number and quality of the raves here in Yelp World, and couldn't be happier.
Dennis couldn't have been nicer or more efficient. Because my work hours are a bit nutty, I left a voicemail the previous Saturday asking if it would be realistic timewise for me to get my brakes checked and possibly replaced, if need be, and also get a tune-up if I came in as soon as they opened on Thursday morning and be done by 10 a.m. I got a voicemail back on Monday telling me it shouldn't be a problem and to bring my car down on Thursday.
Fast forward to Thursday. I get there at 7 a.m. when they opened--there were already a couple of people in line! Dennis tells me someone will be able to look at my car within the hour and let me know what's going on. They don't have a waiting area, but he offered to pull out a chair for me and then suggested waiting at Tanner's coffeehouse a half-block up the street might be more comfy. Yep, it was.
An hour later, I get a call from Dennis telling me my brakes still have 50% on them, that the noise was probably because they were dirty and that they cleaned them for me. All of my belts, hoses and the various other car do-dads they check were also fine. I headed back over to pick my car up, expecting a $100 invoice, only to see a $40 one. Wow!
While I was paying, Dennis, another mechanic and I ended up joking about how other mechanics I've been to have tried to "supersize" their work and how I'd even had a mechanic, upon trying to supersize me, tell me "and I'm not telling you this [price] just because you're a woman." Sheesh, could you be a little more transparent? Dennis and the mechanic laughed and said they just believe in being honest.
As long as that's their mission, they'll be my mechanics.
Super fantastic. Honest and fast. The only Auto mechanic that I have found, so far, in LA, that I would ever happily go back to a 2nd time. This is now my default place for everything auto related
I have had my car serviced and was very happy with the results. The owner/mechanic is very personable and their service is great! They promised my car would be ready in two days and it was. The price was reasonable and my car was running great!
Well, we all know what its like trying to go to a mechanic and not be anything but apprehensive, suspicious, and frustrated with not knowing if you're being screwed or overpaying. Being new to California only made finding a good mechanic even harder BUT with the help of Yelp, I found this needle in the haystack of LA.
Ed Little Auto Service truly is a gem and lived up to the many reviews on Yelp. Here's my experience:
My 2000 Jeep Cherokee suddenly decided to call it quits on me, with no warning whatsoever. It happened less than a week from going to the local EZ Lube (I'll NEVER be going back there again and yes, I'll be posting a review for them shortly...). The Jeep just wouldn't start. So, I had to get it towed...
I called up Ed, told him the situation, he gave me a particular tow company to use (The Towing Company...how original) and to ask for Victor. Then I had to mention it was an Ed Little tow and I'd get a discount. And I wouldn't have to worry about paying the towguy, Ed made the arrangements to just have the tow company bill him (nice touch I thought).
At first, Ed told me they probably wouldn't be able to check it out until Today (Friday) or next week. Seeing as how I need to get to and from work, not knowing anyone in Cali, I pleaded my case to him and he told me to bring it in and he'd do the best he could to get it looked at asap.
So the tow guy came, professional and not scary like some of those guys seem.... fast, quick, and was friendly. Ed looked at the Jeep, called me at work to advise me of what he thought it was and that I would likely find out what it was the following day after the diagnostic was done. Sure enough, Ed called the following day and turns out it was just a bad battery (phew... he had suspected it was either an internal engine thing or just the battery). At this point, looking back, he really could have taken FULL advantage of me and make up something complicated just to get a bunch of money but he was totally honest and I can truly truly appreciate that. How often do you find an honest mechanic or repair shop?? RARELY!
So about 24 hours after my Jeep was taken to Ed, he had it right back to me. Good as new and I even had lots of money left in my bank account after paying the bill. What a TREAT!
Nice thing too was that he noticed that my tailight was out and went ahead and just replaced it for me, no charge! There was no extra charge for the diagnostic. Just the battery and the tow... nothing else hidden. And it was reasonable. Oh, and I looked under the hood to check out the new battery and it was a brand new name brand, high quality battery... not some cheap Walmart thing so yeah, you can say I am very happy about this repair shop!
I HIGHLY recommend this shop! Thanks to all the previous Yelpers who reviewed this shop.
I love Yelp and I love Ed Little's Auto service. I went there this morning to get my brakes checked after going to Midas(beware!) and being told I needed a new battery, a power steering flush and front and back brakes done to the tune of over $700!
Turns out my battery is fine(needs to be cleaned), I do not need to flush my power steering fluid and only my back brakes needed to be done. The front brakes had another 5k miles on them and my back brakes had about another month(Midas implied that they were so bad I would get in an accident if I didn't get them fixed then and there!).
Dennis gave me an estimate of $210 and when the work was completed a couple hours later, it was about $180. Awesome! Dennis was very friendly, down to earth and nice to chat with. I even brought the guys some cookies when I picked up the car because I was so delighted with the customer service.
My recommendation is to go first thing in the a.m.and make an appointment--they open at 7(yes, I set my alarm for 6:30!) If you go in later, your car will not be first in line. I am so glad I found a great, local repair shop when I need it!
love ed little auto service
love bob
love yelp (for letting me find ed little)
it was the fourth time in two months that i had to visit auto mechanics because of my right headlight. thank GOD i found ed little. bob was very helpful in explaining possible causes for the bulb failure. and to replace that bulb, which he did not carry at his shop, he ran to the close by store to get it. yes, he literally ran to the store and got it for me. (just as a side note, a couple of mechanics i spoke to before did not carry the bulb i needed. they said it's some kind of special halogen bulb.)
anyway, two thumbs way up for bob. not only did he change the bulb, but he checked out my maintenance req'd light, checked all the fluids, refilled some stuff, handled my car with great care, and didn't charge me a whole bunch for the wonderful service he provided. i would definitely go back to bob and refer anybody with auto issues.
My 97 Nissan has seen better days. There's no paint left on the roof really, it has no hubcaps left (I got sick of putting more on only to lose one a week again), and the check engine light is perpetually on.
The light used to bother me, but we've grown close over the years and now I feel a little lonely without it.... What's that? It's off? Oh man, thanks Bob and Dennis at Ed Little!!!
I HAD to pass my smog. Today. HAD TO. My registration is already going to be late because it will take my out-of-state plates two days to show that I have even been smogged. And our lovely state of CA automatically fails your smog test if that dang light is on. Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, off to Ed's I drove.
Not only did they diagnose the car at no charge, they did really intense further diagnostics, sanded the fuel cap fitting, put on a new fuel cap, turned off the light, emptied some canister full of dust that used to be a filter but isn't now, and said to come back in 50 miles of driving and they'd test it again, make sure enough of the on-board computer checks had passed, and send me to my smog test before the last one ran making the light come one (this is a little complicated but bear with me).
So: All the tests and a little actual work and a replacement part, and I drove off without paying a cent. They picked me up all the way in Century City. They tested again this morning (also at no charge), and I passed the smog without having to do the $500 in exhaust system repairs they feared might be necessary if the light came back on.
I had paid 4 other places in LA to diagnose the problem (which alone costs $80 most places), and paid them to fix phantom problems which I now realize were lies. After paying $900+ to frauds, the one place that could actually help me was FREE.
I will never go anywhere else.
My first YELP searched business. My old mechanice went belly-up and I turned to Yelp. Ed Little came up first, so I thought I'd give it a shot. They were great - told me exactly what they needed to do, how much, and it was all true. Great guys.
Thanks to Yelp! I found Ed Little in Culver City. You see, I drive the greatest car in the world, and wanted to find a trusted mechanic to whom I could entrust Princess Aurora for a couple days. Since Auroras are not the most common vehicle on the road, I was very pleased to hear that the original owner used to own one...meaning that when properly doing an oil change, they would be aware that the front of the car must be level or tilted slightly downward on the lift. They were also able to recommend particular replacement parts when one of my window regulators failed. On top of that, they were ridiculously inexpensive. These guys rock! I will be a repeat customer, fer sher.
I'm in love with Bob...he quoted me $675 for a new timing belt and water pump (Lexus dealership estimate was $2k). 6 hours later when my car was done, he had changed my oil and rotated my tires for free and my bill was $640!
I'm sending a mass email to all my friends (especially women) that if they need work done on their domestic or japanese car to bring it to Ed's!
Bob and all the guys working there are friendly and - very importantly - great at explaining what the problem might be with your car. My car window was stuck in the down position so they opened up the door panel and it immediately started working again. There was no charge for that, and they explained the possible source of another issue I was having with the car and told me how to test it on my own (to see if it was a fairly minor repair).
I'm used to my daddy doing my car work for me, but after moving down to LA I'm on my own. I discovered a few days ago that my car was low on coolant, and I had no idea how to replace it. I read all the good reviews about Ed Little Auto Service and found out it opened at 7am, so I decided to venture out before class this morning and see if I could get some help. One of the guys at the shop (sorry I didn't catch his name) took one look under my hood and refilled my coolant, then explained a little bit about what else was under my hood. The best part is he did it all for free and all under 5 minutes. I'm definitely coming back here again.
Edit - I returned to my beloved mechanic's shop today to fix my cigarette lighter in my car. I had tried a couple things, but was ready to buy a whole new mechanism. Bob and Company looked at the lighter, giggled, and replaced the fuse. For free. They totally could have jacked me. They were busy, but still courteous, patient and funny. Ed Little reaffirms my faith in humanity, or at least mechanics. Now I can charge all my electronics again and smoke too, if I'm so inclined.
The oil change guys at EZLube or whatever made my car tick. Incessantly. I have a warranty, but my dealership is so far away that I thought my car might blow up before I got there. So I Yelped for a good neighborhood mechanic, and at Ed Little that's exactly what I found. FOR FREE, Bob Little diagnosed my ticking issue (said oil change guys had knocked something into the engine), plucked out the foreign object, and sent me on my merry way. I gotta say, I'm a small-town girl and sometimes it's scary to live in the Big-Ass City. But since Bob agreed to be my "forever mechanic," I feel less alone, less scared, and much, much happier. Go there and see for yourself - just get a tune-up or whatever. There are cool cafes and Brazilian shopping places in the area; you can walk. Or stroll through the deciduous trees of Culver City. Whatever. Just go.
based on the reviews here i had to check it out because its so hard to find a honest, dependable, knowledgeable mechanice.
well, yelpers were correct. i brought my car in for a "trip check" since i was going on a road trip and to check the brakes.
there was nothing wrong with the brakes and he only charged me for the "weird noise" issue which ended up being a loose pulley.
they were fast, affordable and professsional. will def be going back.
I got my car back today and its running great. They worked on my 1995 Buick LeSabre, replacing an expensive and labor intensive engine part. When it turned out that the original problem was masking a 2nd serious (and expensive) problem, they took responsibility for not catching the other problem and repaired it without charge for labor or parts. I recommend this garage highly.
