This place is aweseome!!! If you're into healthy food/ raw food - this is your paradise. They have every product you could imagine from around the country and the world.
In the East of LA area, there's really no other store like this. I'm so glad they are here near my house.
Ask for Kyu, she is really nice, helpful, and knowledgeable! -

It wouldn't hurt if the employee(s) here would be a bit more engaging. At least a "hello" when people walk in, Instead you're too busy staring at your computer.
Besides that, this place is okay. A variety of vegan items which is nice but every time I come here refrigerators are not stocked! -

I was kinda turned off by the Grade B at the front window. Having that in mind, I didn't order anything prepared in-house.
They DO have everything else Vegan. I absolutely LOVE all their Vegan "ice cream" selection. Raw Vegan cookies are TO DIE FOR!
Located in the cool, trendy spot in Claremont. -

When ever I want to get my Raw on this is the place to go. Found something in the frig today that was so good. Chocolate and peanut butter raw sprouted bar.. Sometimes you just gotta treat your self right, so I will be back looking for my YUM.
Thank you Ecoterra for having it all in one place, in my hood. Gotta love Claremont, they have it all. -

I go here for the soup of the day. Yum. Hot, vegetarian, generally gluten-free, it is a quick, cheap and tasty lunch. I pick up a funky salad too, never disappointed in those. Their salads make me muse - "why can't I make simple food like kale taste so good?" The selection of gluten free items is small and expensive.
I have mixed experience about the natural pharmacy there. One person was diagnosed with a lactose intolerance that medical tests could not confirm. She is very grateful to them, and yet my other friend became very, very sick from a treatment for a bloated stomach. -

I generally like this place. It has a good selection of both quality and variety. Everything is just sooo expensive.

LONG LIVE ECOTERRA! I've only been in Claremont for two weeks and have been to Ecoterra no less than 6 times. It's my home away from home. Coming from hippie-dippy, juice-vegan-raw-earth loving Santa Monica I was terrified I would have to trek back on the weekends to get all the good stuff I love. Ecoterra has everything you could ask for and more. Tons of awesome raw and vegan products, such as the Artisana cocoa coconut spread, Wee Bee raw honey, Lara bars, maca powder and the list goes on.
But what I really love about this place that actually outshines my favorite little One Life market in Venice - their prepared raw salads. I mean you need to hand it to the chef there. He is seriously a G, as in genius, when it comes to preparing raw foods. Raw bok choy with tomatoes, shitake mushrooms and a light soy dressing. WOW. But the raw kale salad with miso-lemon dressing...foodgasm. This dude knows what's up. And he said most of the prepared foods he just makes up. Their sushi is also really good. I've only eaten the spicy tuna roll but am addicted. It comes with a small side salad and really good miso-y dressing (there's a good amount of dressing so I always save the extra to make another salad).
There is a pretty decent selection of fresh produce for how small the place is. I think a lot of it sells out during the day because in the evenings the selection is very limited. One downside is not all the produce is locally grown, and they do carry some tomatoes and other items from Mexico. Would be nice if they kept it more local.
In addition they have a ton of herbs, teas and beauty products.
Only other negative - they close at 7 most days. So early :( -

I found Ecoterra here on yelp and was excited to visit after all the great reviews. Man, was I disappointed! I came in at about 7 pm (they close at 8) and didn't so much as get a single look from one of the workers. They were cleaning up and that's understandable but seemed annoyed that I was there at all. The store is TINY and cramped, mostly vitamins. Their prepared food looked good but it was pricey! $7.50 for a sushi roll with a tiny side salad?
I'd like to say that I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and try them when it wasn't so near to closing, but the store itself left so much to be desired I'll probably just find somewhere else instead. -

I really don't know what happened. This place has gone horribly downhill. Really inconsistent selection. Far too focused on raw foods for such a small town. Now I *have* to go to Sprouts if I want granola that doesn't cost $10. Sad.

Dope ass place, if I lived 20 miles closer to here this would be my kick it place.
5 stars just on their prepared food that's tastin gooder than hell every time, I can't really say what I've had here I just look at whats in the package and take it if looks good to my tummy, because like any other prepared vegan food it never tastes like what its says it is, just that here it is actually really good.
Like I remember checking out the lasagna, tasted nothing like lasagna, but it was just this perfectly fulfilling italian gourmet tastin dish, loved it, like all the other stuff I had here is always top quality, flavor full, satisfying, raw organic n all that.
Surprising like the mexican dishes actually taste mexican and its spicy like real mexican and they are selling it next to vegan sushi that tastes like fresh sushi(been told by the chef everything is vegan).
Straight carnivores probably wont get it, but those vegetable inclined should definitely be able to appreciate the goodness here.
All other vegan places in the area should come down to the bar and get schooled on how to make food taste good, then a lot more people would be down for the cause.
N they pretty much carry all the cool stuff that they got at the big health food markets.
They are also cool about blending up what ever juice concoctions you like.
Now If they start selling earth cafe pastries I'm gonna go broke making that trip on a daily basis. -

Santa Monica, CA
I came here for the first time in August 2008. The 8 piece brown rice sushi roll lunch plate was $5.99, tax included and came with a small organic salad. Not a bad deal at all for under $6.
I continued to come for this sushi lunch a few times a month, until in September 2008, they raise the price to $6.50, tax included. At first I understand, as fuel prices were high and most places are using that as an excuse to raise prices. So, I let it go and still buy the sushi. A week later in September 2008 I come back, and guess what? Now they decide to start randomly adding tax all of a sudden when it was always included before, so the same plate now cost right around $7 bucks.
Now I go back a few weeks ago, and for this same dish, same size as only a few months ago, they are now charging around $7.75 for it with tax.
Fuel is only $2 bucks a gallon now, not $4.50 anymore... And your prices increase to almost $8 for the same meal that used to cost just $6?
C'mon now, you pull this price stunt during a bad recession? WEAK -

I am so grateful that places like this exist. Wonderful, friendly employees who are passionate about the food they prepare and sell, quality products, and the best darn superfood smoothie I've ever had.
Traveling and eating well are a challenge, but places like this make it a no-brainer!
Thank you, thank you!! -

I live right down the street from here, which means I can walk to get my organic beer now! :) AND my 5HTP and whatever else I may need.
It's a GREAT little store with a lot of variety of items. Cereals, cookies, fruits and veggies, wines, beers, sodas, snacks savory and sweet.
The owner also runs the Myra House ( http://www.myrahouse.com/ ) which is here in Claremont, too. All sustainable living - really a neat venture. Myra herself is the owner of this store and she is a really nice woman and so well educated and full of info she will share if you ask. Also, a very nice staff at the time I was there. Decent prices, too! Organic stuff is always costly, but I didn't feel at all that I was being raked over the coals (as I do at Sprouts, just up the street).
I'm glad that Claremont has this place! I hope it lasts and I'll do what little I can to support the place! -

Los Angeles, CA
In Claremont, alternative eateries and grocery stores are not in too short a supply. We have a few chains outside of the village (Sprouts, mostly), and the occasional vegan option on restaurant menus, but no place caters to your alterna-eating needs like Ecoterra.
This place has undergone countless interior decorating changes over the last few years since opening, but it is only getting better. They recently added a few tables and chairs inside the cafe to create a homier vibe- I'm a fan.
The selection:
- a small produce section with basic fruits and veggies as well as wild mushrooms and fresh greens
- a drink fridge and freezer case with frozen dinners and ice cream (dairy and non)
- a prepared foods section with everything from raw vegan cheesecake, to fresh spring rolls, to full entrees
- a selection of dried packaged foods, nuts, cereals, supplements etc
- and to top it off, half of the store is dedicated to herbal supplements and vitamins. I haven't shopped there before, but I know that one of the owners is very knowledgeable in this department.
I have to give this place 4 stars, however, because of the pricing. I know that making fresh and vegan foods is not cost efficient, but I have often avoided buying more than just one thing in order to not go broke! Come, but you were warned! -

Claremont, CA
Low rating is for the workers. All they do is just stare at their computer screens all day and their manners are bad. They also need to learn how to restock and make sure they get their shipments in. I've been waiting for a restock on refrigerated things for a while.

This place is great! They combine a great amount of fresh organic produce and a multitude of organic bagged and canned items with a full selection of vitamins and supplements. This is a very interesting little shop that fits Claremont life to a tee.
They also have an area dedicated to household cleaners, paper towels, etc.. all made from recyclable materials and eco-friendly.
And then a very interesting part... they've got a little food bar where they make organic vegan meals in a day to day special sort of way. I've seen sushi there a few times(made with brown rice). But I've yet to try any of it.
A great place for vegans and health conscious individuals. -

I had been trying to find a whole foods organic store for the longest time and finally found one! This store has everything organic! Also they have the best organic home made juices! I usually get the parsley apple and carrot one, so good! They have vitamins and best of all they have organic wine...also if you want to take someone to lunch they have a grill where u can order food.

I sure am glad I gave them another chance. They have some pretty cool Vegan stuff here. The best Vegetable soup I have ever had (after I add a bit of salt) Dr. Mcdougall's all natural soups are well stocked here. I called them looking for Daiya vegan cheese. They had not even heard of it but told me if it fit into their natural food goals they would order it. Two days later it was in their cooler. I get my Vega protein here. They also carry a small selection of toiletries that are free from animal products or animal testing. They carry Rudi's organic bakery bread also free from any hidden animal products. And the best thing is their prices are usually lower than sprouts or henrys and even whole foods.

Los Angeles, CA
This is the best health food & supplement shop in the area, in my opinion. I'm pregnant & know the benefits of DHA for a baby's developing brain, however, I can't STAND fish oil, which is where most DHA is found. You taste it every time you burp...it's disgusting. Ecoterra was the only local place I was able to find VEGAN DHA, which is derived from organic algae. It's great! All the benefits with none of the gross flavor.
Also, I've gained a craving for their spicy crab sushi rolls. They're made with organic brown rice & made daily in the shop. Delish! & I usually frown upon store-bought sushi.
My one complaint is that it costs $7.50. Sure, it comes with a salad & dressing, but the dressing is AWFUL in my opinion. Super salty & like nothing I've ever tasted before. I asked the owner if I could ever get just the roll, but she said it would still be $7.50...okayyy...
I thought perhaps they could do JUST the roll since the sushi chef is in-store, but I guess not.
Another thing about the sushi is that it usually has avocado in it, but yesterday, mine had nothing but the spicy crab & a carrot piece...ew. Disappointed! -
Review from Ryan C.
When I stepped inside this market, I was amazed. On the right side are hundreds of different kinds of herbal, holistic, and natural pharmaceutical products to take care of your health. On the other side are fruits and vegetables, ALL ORGANIC, snacks, drinks, soups, and all sorts of other foodstuffs. The prices are amazing--69 cents a pound for organic red onion (locally grown)? That would cost 3 times as much at whole foods. Everything else is either ridiculously cheap by organic standards or very competitively priced. The store is clean and well-maintained with a family-run feel. The owner is a pharmacist as well. There is so much goodness crammed into this little store. They even had a nice selection of quality goat cheeses, which are generally better than cow's cheeses. It's conveniently located near the Claremont Transit Center and the newly built large parking structure.

Finally a grocery store that has organic produce close to my house.(two blocks) No more trips to Whole Foods in Pasadena. Also great prepared healthy food that is fabulous when I need healthy food in a hurry.
Last week I was sick and could not get a doctors appointment so I went to see the pharmacist working at Ecoterra instead. She gave me two products and some vegetable soup and the next day I felt better. This is an amazing resource to have in Claremont. -

Love this place! They have a wide selection of vegan food, vitamins and natural petcare products that you just wont find at your local market. Also one of the only places I know of where I can find soy whipped cream and rice-mellow. I know it doesn't sound like much but when youre vegan it really is impossible to find things that you once took for granted. If they only carried more produce, they would win my heart for sure!

great place! too many good things. I love their organic raw juice bar, good stuff! They also have some grab and go freshly made meals that are wonderful. Of course the selection of other food, products, etc is great, like a mini whole foods with everything you need. There should be more places like this with such an emphasis on health and well being.

The prices are average for a health food store, and surprisingly some are better than whole foods market. They have some hard to find items that I can't get at sprouts, Henry's or trader joes. Everyone is really nice and friendly. I always come in here for their prepared food and juices.Their juices are very fresh and delicious. Their food is all vegetarian (some with fish), and I feel very healthy after a meal here. One of my favorite places in the area.

So I always thought that organic food would be a bit pricy since the only places I've been to are Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, but Ecoterra's great deals on produce and other organic snacks like nuts and dried fruit got me all excited.
I actually came in looking for an alternative to the typical over the counter cold medicines, and was even more pleased to know that they have a licensed pharmacist on staff who helped me understand which medicine to chose for my symptoms. I didn't know that so many organic medications existed, they have the largest selection I have ever seen.
Overall the service was great since its run by the actual owners. They are always ready to answer any questions and help educate people like me who are new to the idea of eating organic. -

I am so glad that Ecoterra came to Claremont. I love shopping there and the food is always fresh and delicious. I especially love the prepared foods. Some people think that the prices are high, but for organic and microbiotic food items, the prices will inevitably go up. I am a big fan of the brown rice sushi and homemade kimchi - when they sell it. If you like natural and organic foods, this is the place to go to.
