I loved this place... where could you be so close up to huge cats! Nowhere! :)

You would never notice this place by just driving by.. it just looks like a regular building on Jefferson Blvd.

The tour is fairly short... but the tour group is typically pretty small... so you get to spend a lot of time with the animals. The girl who was our tour guide was also pretty knowledgeable about the animals... so yay! :)

Oh and check out "Sam" or "Samantha" the Toucan. :)

Used to volunteer here in high school, great location, friendliest staff and caring people. They do good work, thanks eco!

Cool place, the tour is fairly short, the place is hot. I don't think there's air conditioning and there are always hippies bringing their kids here stinking up the place. It's cool to go if you're around the area though and the staff is pretty nice. They charge for babies without strollers though so I recommend bringing your stroller in with you. If your tour guide is cool, they might let you take your infant out to walk around still.

This is awesome, it's sorta like seeing an exotic pet store with really cool full grown pets.  They have a cool selection of birds, reptiles (alligators!) and fish.

Great for young kids and animal lovers. Also good if you are debating adopting a pet...

    Loved it.
Private tour, cool animals, awesome tour guide. A+

I think it's a hit-or-miss kind of place. Your experience will vary depending on the time you go, how many people there are, and who your tour guide is (how much knowledge they have, how friendly they are etc). Don't go there expecting it to be a museum (I don't know why it's under this category, i think they're in a category of their own). It's very low key and low budget. They work with what they have and they did pretty well.

When I went, I was the very last and ONLY group to go. So it was a super private tour. Lucky me! To add to this, the tour guide was AWESOME. I adore her! If only I didn't forget her name... Her name starts with an S, and she's a young African American. Ahhg, I hate that I can't just call her by her name! I'll be sure to call and update this entry ASAP! Anyway, she opened up the cages of so many of the animals since we were the only ones there. It was very hands on. We even got to see and pet a pissed off baby alligator!! That was pretty friggin awesome. She let out some of the birds and they danced, sang "chickara chickara chickaroo" and said "Hey Baby". So cute.

Be sure to look through my pictures to get an idea of what the place looks like. It's very very small, so all the animals are pretty much within arm's reach. Very close and personal, not like a zoo at all. I highly recommend you come here to enjoy yourself, support this place, or both! They do great things by rescuing animals and giving them a home.

If you ever wanted to visit an episode of "3-2-1 Contact" (kids charmingly and unaccountably assigned with a serious scientific mission), you may enjoy this little side excursion as much as we did.

On a recent Sunday, tapped out of ideas, we did a quick Google search for "things to do in L.A." and found this.

    You will see:
    - Lovable giant cats that were once people's pets (who live in rooms that look like kids' rooms)
    - Kooky-looking rescued lizards
    - Loud tropical birds
    - A cute li'l gift shop with pictures of badgers on things

Really there are only about 4 rooms, but the "tour" (they happen every half hour) lasts a good 45-50 minutes.

We wish it could have lasted even longer, but we really enjoyed it. It's a very nice vibe.

Bottom line: If you *really* love animals, you will have fun visiting here and seeing the exotic animals and hearing their stories.

The place also looks nice: sort of a mystic Aztec jungle vibe.

I feel bad giving this place a low review because of what they do for kids and exotic animals. For young school children, this would probably be an awesome field trip. You get to see some cool birds, fish, exotic cats and pet some reptiles....all on a small private tour.

The reason I am knocking it down a few stars is the place was just kind of trashy and half-assed. I guess, maybe it's hard to get funding for this kind of program, but clean it up a bit. I also suppose, I am being selfish and thinking of my entertainment value when it's really more of a rescue and education center. Like I said at the beginning, I feel bad giving them a low rating, but that's what is appropriate for this place.

The super friendly toucan was my favorite. She just wanted a friend to hang out with.

This place is so cool. A little bit hard to find and off the beaten path but well worth it! All of the animals in this facility were rescued. For the people that work here, you can tell it is a real labor of love. All of the money brought in, goes right back into the animals. You can probably write off your admission in your taxes. Anyway...

My favorite part is the cat section of the tour. Jay is the coolest cat there is and his story is so amazing. (He used to be trained to live in a suitcase before he was rescued and now has hip problems.) I forget what kind of big cat he is because I think he is a hybrid breed. He is playful and cute though.

I also really enjoy the birds. So many parrots! Guaco is my favorite as he is the most talkative. I have 4 year old twins (boy & girl) and they just love all the birds. They also have a good time with the reptiles.

The tour takes about an hour and if they are not busy you can ask to go back to a certain section and hang out with the animals a little bit longer.

Support the Eco Station! They are good people! These animals would have been destroyed if it wasn't for all their hard work and dedication. http://www.ecostation.org/

We visited this place because we needed extra credit for school. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I learned! The entire place was very clean and well-organized. Our tour guide had so much knowledge I was hugely impressed. Our only negative was that we had a  "wouldn't let the guide talk" kid in the group. We probably should have waited for the next tour but they only run every half hour. Even with the little munchkin though, this place was a lot of fun! We especially loved the birds! What characters they are! Each animal there has a story,... some are sadder than others (like the turtle set on fire) but each one is obviously loved and cared for! We plan on going back again in the near future!

This could be one of the hidden secrets of LA.  It is a bit off the beaten path if you don't live in Culver City, Baldwin Hills, or some of the surrounding cities.  What they do here is incredible and they provide amazing information for kids and adults.  They have great animals and some things you just normally don't see in the city.  The staff is great and they do an unbelievable job of education.  My kids love this place and we go all the time.

NOT FOR SMALL CHILDREN!!!  After looking over their website, I thought it would be great to take my 2 year old son to see the animals and go for the tour.  WATCH OUT!  NONE of the animal cages are protective. Small children have a hard time not wanting to touch and grab everything that interests them.  NONE of the cages will prevent your little one from having his/her fingers bitten.  I had to physically restrain my son for the entirety of the tour.  The animal cages have huge openings and my son could fit his entire hand into them.  They really need to ADVISE PEOPLE TO NOT BRING SMALL CHILDREN WHO ARE UNABLE TO RESTRAIN THEMSELVES.  It was a total waste of money, and by the time we left, my son was basically worked up into a frenzy.  It's not a very appropriate place to bring a small child who cannot restrain themselves. It is a more appropriate place for the 4 and over crowd.

I loved this place! It was cool to be greeted by tortoises and parrots when you walk up to the entrance. The tour guide we had was very knowledgeable, patient and excited about showing us around the animals. I had heard about this place at the Venice Eco fest and finally went to check it out and I am glad I did. They have a larger variety of animals than I would have thought, from alligators to bobcats to a beautiful bright yellow sea horse which I was amazed by! A cool place to go and support!

Please support this place.  This is such a great cause.  And you get to see these animals so close.  Don't expect a zoo as there aren't that many animals, but it's a great place to spend a couple of hours in Culver City.
