If you have kids who like reptiles and/or parrots, this is some good low budget entertainment. The eco station rescues animals whose owners have decided that maybe a 20 foot python is not such a good pet. They offer tours every hour . Your guide takes you through the reptile room, and then the bird room, telling interesting facts about each animal, and letting the kids touch them if they want to. This place only opened recently, so there are some empty cages, and a mammal room that has no animals yet, but more animals are coming soon.
I learned that iguanas are really bad pets since they bite, and their bites tend to remove large chunks of flesh. They showed us the tubes that parrots are illegally shipped in, with their legs and wings taped. Our guide explained that they shove 6 or 8 birds in a tube, knowing that only about 25% survive.
The tour kept my 8 year old and three younger kids interested for almost an hour. My newspaper clipping says that admission is $5 for kids and $7 for adults, but they charged me only 6 dollars for the 2 of us. I don't know if that is because they don't have all their animals yet, or what, but the price was right. They also have "party rooms" so junior can have cake and open gifts after he and his friends do the tour.
