I am so happy to say that these are the BEST VEGAN CUPCAKES I have ever tasted. Actually, they are the best cupcakes I have ever tasted!! My favorite is the chocolate with peanut butter frosting...oh me oh my. I'm also happy to say that I have introduced these vegan yummies to my non-veg friends and they love them as well!
Also wanted to say that I had a fun interaction with the chick who bakes all the vegan stuff a few months back (not sure if she's still there?) and she is willing to veganize whatever you're dreaming of, just ask! One of these days, I'll put her to the test! -

Thanks for fulfilling a birthday order! They were friendly, helpful, and made giving my friend a gift certificate very easy. I've never eaten there, but my friend was certainly excited.

Wow - I wish I lived closer to go to this place every day!
I was there for the Strawberry Festival 2011 & had the pleasure of eating their Strawberry Shortcake. The shortcake is like none other...dense, a bit chewy & a texture all on its own. I ate it with & without the strawberries and enjoyed every bite. It didn't get soggy like store-bought shortcake (so if you like that then this shortcake will surprise you). Jeremy, the owner, went to culinary school in San Francisco & totally gets the 'buy local' thing. When I asked, he said they bought their berries from a farmer nearby; I could definitely taste the freshness.
If I had room - the shortcake was huge as evidenced by my attached picture - I would also have tried their eclairs & mini donuts. Guess I'll have to find a reason to visit them again!
The shortcake was $6 but it was a festival so not sure if this is on their regular menu or what the cost would be. Just go & get something, I'm sure it's all yummy. -

I'm sort of a bakery aficionado. I break for bakeries if you will. This is one of my favorite bakeries ever. The staff is so helpful and nice. Their Illy coffee is delicious. Being gluten-intolerant I've only sampled the baked goods that other people bought, but those bites were heavenly. I've tried their chocolate chip cookie, their eclair, and their scones. Yum. Go now.

Just stopped at this quaint little bakery this morning. As soon as we walked in, we were enticed by the smell of freshly baked bread and pastries.
We tried one of the elclairs (we felt that we couldn't go to a bakery called Eclair without trying one!), which was good. The chocolate was rich but not overly sweet and the custard filling was nice and creamy.
We also tried the blue cheese walnut bread which was delicious. It must've been baked just prior to our arrival, so it was still slightly warm, crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside. It had a distinct blue cheese flavor that I've never tasted in a bread before.
They don't have a huge selection of items, but they have a good variety of things: cupcakes, cookies, breads, cream puffs, eclairs, croissants, etc.
I think we might stop by tomorrow to pick up a loaf of asiago onion bread before heading home! -

Illy Coffee is my staple there, followed by a puff of comfort that today could be a ham and cheese croissant, tomorrow, a butter puff, the next day one of the amazing cupcakes.
Friday nights, I watch fresh bread truly being made with love and put out for Saturday morning sale... Cheese and bread, you found your friend in me.
I am both blessed and cursed by the bakery being across the street from where I work. Recommend? No - too passive - RUN to Eclair, they are amazing.Listed in: Best Quality Local Food

This is a great little bakery in the adorable village of Arroyo Grande. The employees are amazing and truly offer the best customer service one has to offer. I've been here a few different times. Once on a rainy day. We had delicious coffee and some yummy treats and we sat inside and just enjoyed ourselves. The other times I went there looking for Vegan goodies. I have two vegan friends and vegan desserts are hard to find! I ordered some vegan cupcakes for one friend and a vegan cake for another. Let's just say that as a non-vegan, I loved every bit of these desserts! You can't even tell the difference. If you are in the village or the Arroyo Grande area, stop in and treat yourself! Everything is delicious and fresh!

Ohhhh My God!!!!!!
The Best of the best Chocolate Eclair EVER!!!!
The filling they put inside the eclair, the Taste is So AMAZING. Rich and so delicious!
Quality ingredients, I'm sure to have this kind of flavoring.
It is dangerously delicious to have treats here. The other pastries I've had there are as flavorful and buttery as well.... but the Eclair is the one!
I allow myself to indulge once and in a while, and this place is top on my list!
And I thought an Eclair I had once in New York city was one to remember... ..nahhhh noting I've had compares to these eclairs!.
For a small bakery their pastries sure have Big flavors!
Thanks for doing a fabulous job!! -

During my frequent visits to A.G., I was always curious about Eclair but never really had the courage to try it. My mind had been preset with the notion that small towns don't know what they're doing. I finally checked this place out when I moved here eight months ago and I am in love! First thing I ordered, of course, was an eclair--delicious and rich.
Jeremy, the owner-- awesome guy. My partner wanted to order Napoleons for his mother, but, we didn't see any in the cases. So, we asked Jeremy if they made any and Jeremy said he doesn't sell Napoleons but if we wanted to order some of them, he would whip us up a batch! So, we ordered and picked them up the following day.
For my birthday, instead of cake, my partner ordered eclairs and bite size cupcakes and fruit tarts for my party. Again, Jeremy had accommodated us and everything was delicious...red velvet cupcake bites, chocolate dipped chocolate cupcake bites...YUM. All my guests, some from down south, raved on about the pastries for the entire night. For a small town bakery that probably hasn't caught up with latest cupcake fads, I find Eclair to be original because they keep to their own pace and good ethics. -
Review from Al S.
As I mash my pudgy, bakery-puffed-fingers down on the keyboard to write this review, I find myself continually taking a break every 7 minutes...running downstairs to the kitchen fridge...checking to see if the bread pudding is REALLY gone...or if there's still, even a small piece, maybe the size of a Halloween sized Kit-Kat bar, hiding behind the milk? This, my yelp-friends, is the portrait of an OCD-Baked Goods-Overeater...(I've created my own sub-section within this disorder.)
My wife and I were on our way to San Luis Obispo this particular Tuesday morning. And what we originally wanted to do, was revisit all the antique shops in Arroyo Grande's downtown village. We had been here almost 12 years earlier.... and remembered the great atmosphere and small shops of the village. If you've never been...... then make a note to stop here on your way up or down the coast. It's just South of Pismo Beach, inland a couple blocks from the 101.
So I found a street-side parking spot right on the main drag. And had I wanted to, I could have parked in the public lot, nearly next door to the bakery. But the bakery wasn't even on the agenda. I didn't even have a "visual", but then, with my olfactory senses, I didn't need my eyes. We were originally thinking "antiques." But after parking, I caught the aroma of - A BAKERY - ...... and it really didn't matter who's it was, or what kind. (it could'a even been one of those frickin' bakeries for Dogs!) I sorta' go into "auto-pilot" when I get the whiff of sweet bakery stuff. (even those little doggie bones made from gingerbread....Woof!) Anyway, at that point, only ONE of us was antique shopping, and it wasn't me.
After walking in, I got the feeling that this was something special; just a small front showroom, and an equally small, but partially visible, prep 'n baking kitchen. Every thing looked "hand made." (DUH !!! of course Al! What the hell did you expect? A steam-driven assembly line?) And special also means that, as mentioned by others, they now do Vegan-friendly treats.
The young owner-baker, Jeremy, was putting out some fresh items, and chatting with customers and his one co-worker. The co-worker asked me if she could help.... and I smiled and said, "The only way you can help me, is to remind me of my pending diabetic issues if I continue to eat so many sweets!" She smiled politely, and by her inviting expression, was encouraging me to continue my adoration of everything in their two presentation cases. She was, in my hallucinigenic eyes, sorta' like a cross between a tatooed-Goth "Vanna White" and a "Hand Model"......encouraging me on..... my eyes hypnotically dropping back to the front cases. And all this, while going into a sugar-daze, brought on by continually inhaling through my nose! (I do have to breath....OK?)
Jeremy, who had been busily handling some other clients, running into the small baking kitchen behind the front, had cleared the shop of all immediate business. It was MY TURN. We chatted a bit about his business, how much I love quality bakery, his "non-use" of preservatives......... and then I just got down to business; "Jeremy.... pick out an assortment of WHAT BEST REPRESENTS YOUR SHOPPE....for about $12." With that, he said..... "I can do that! And if you want to rejoin your wife and come back in 15 minutes, you can pay me then." I did, and we did, and then when my wife and I returned, she saw two of her favorite bakery desserts...... Bread Pudding and Apple Pie....... we added those to the purchase.
Look..... I could go on and on about how good the apple pie was, how natural and light, yet deep in flavor it was....... and I could go on about how the bread pudding had this obviously "homemade" construction, and was the hit of my wife's card-night with her girl friends...... I could even tell you that every eclair, lemon bar and the balance of the "assortment" Jeremy put together disappeared at a dinner with friends, shortly after our return home. But the best way to share this experience, would be to just have you guys stop here on your next pass up or down the 101 near Pismo.
BTW.... I'm gonna' check just one more time...... maybe there IS a small piece of the bread pudding in the fridge......??? I'm checking behind the milk...... ya.... it could be behind the milk! -

Sweet, small town bakery that is a real find. Obviously the eclairs are delicious, all fresh ingredients from scratch, but so are the cookies, breads and the Latte. Perfect for that mid-afternoon slump. Very nice service. They have a few tables inside and out - but I think most people take out.

Just wanted to update my review and continue to recommend it...
Don't miss either a) their completely amazing bread pudding (which, thanks a lot guys, I crave on a regular basis. Damn you.) b) the Breakfast Club (every other saturday morning they serve breakfast, ie pancakes, eggs benedict, quiche, etc). It's not to be missed. Somehow I go in here and end up buying way more than planned and stock up on yummy stuff for the week ;-)
I don't understand why there's not a line out the front door more often. But I guess that's okay, 'cause it leaves more for me!1 Previous Review: Show all »

MMMMMMMMMM.
So the cupcake craze hasn't quite hit the Central Coast yet, but this is one of two bakeries I have heard of so far that are keeping up with the "trends."
I heard about this place probably about a month ago, while stalking on Facebook one day.. a friend/local artist Jeff Claassen had updated that he was going to AG for some cupcakes at Eclair Bakery and after checking out the website, I was aching to pay a visit!
FINALLY today after badgering Mr. Grumpy, he took me and we left with two cupcakes and one almond wellington...
Cupcake #1: YETI
Coconut, coconut, coconut!
Cupcake #2: CHOCOLATE with ganache
Melts in your mouth delicious
AMAZING frosting! I'm eating the almond wellington as I type this and it's great so far. Who eats pastries at 2 in the morning? *points to self* Can't wait to try his red velvet soon! -

I have been meaning to write a review for Eclair for awhile. They are hands down the best bakery producing gluten free cupcakes. The cupcakes are the bomb diggity scrumpdiliumptous! They don't always have them available so call in advance to check to see if they have any. They are a Saturday morning treat. Baker-wizard Jeremy said he will probably start making them routinely because the demand has increased. Another option for celiacs is their chocolate dipped macaroons. Delicious!!!

Those of us with a passion for food, remember our first inspirations. That taste or experience that opened up the culinary artist in your heart. Those of you who read this column regularly know that my husband has a wicked sweet tooth. You will not be surprised to learn that some meals with him are comprised entirely of pastries. Nor will you be surprised to hear, that he eats himself silly at the Éclair Bakery in The Village. We had always been a fan of Jeremy Davenport, the owner and head baker, as he worked for a time at Farb's bakery (my best friends, Kathy Makeyev business) and even amongst the baguettes, rolls and buns, Jeremy stood out. Kathy having lived for years in France claims that Jeremy makes the best croissants. I will not dispute that claim.
The utterly delicious cupcakes, made this a bakery to be worshiped. Gary would devour two there and take three to go. Flavors like pineapple and spiced rum with butter cream, raspberry lemon cello, root beer float, maple bar prayed to be consumed. Other flavors like S'mores, carrot and my personal favorite, the Chocolate dipped, were akin to a celebration in your mouth.
Éclair serves traditional recipes with a flavorful twist including banana bread pudding, and cinnamon apple coffee cake. When I had to prepare a feast for my new in laws, I turned to Éclair to furnish the Engagement Brownies. Moist and perfectly chocolate with a dusting of powered sugar, I plated them with chocolate sauce, white raspberries, and a vanilla Pirouette. They were a hit and I give Éclair the credit for good family relations from now on.
We often sneak goodies into the movies, as there is only so many Goober's one can ingest, so we get a variety of the Éclair cookies and smuggle them in my purse. I am a fan of the simple butter short bread, where Gary prefers the chocolate chip, peanut butter, and chocolate oatmeal.
The main thrust of Éclair bakery is wedding cakes, which I will need very soon. Jeremy creates gorgeous works of art that will make the most persnickety bride blush with joy. Being trained as a pastry chef by the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco and apprenticing under some of the best pastry chefs in California, Jeremy has thrown in his special flair and talent to create matrimonial works of art.
The Éclair pastry display is socked full of treasures every day but Sundays and Mondays. Go grab a sweetie for your sweetie (or yourself) -

Jeremy's Eclair Bakery is the best! My favorite place for a treat on the Central Coast. The atmosphere is friendly and cozy. Coffee is great too! Peanut butter cookies are amazing, as are the cupcakes. Jeremy has made numerous custom cakes for my daughter's bday parties and they have been wonderful. My sister is a vegan and his vegan treats are some of the best she has tasted.

I am a big fan of the ham and cheese croissants, my husband loves the cinnamon rolls and the apple strudel, Braeden loves the chocolate eclair, and Karsten loves apple or cherry strudel along with the berry pastries and the lemon bars. Jeremy made me a special ham, egg and cheese croissant once when I needed a quick protein fix during our remodel and move -- the ham and cheese croissants were already sold out which sadly, happens often. Our contractors and design team got spoiled on these special pastries several times too and the ham and cheese croissants were a big favorite. The quiche, when available, is also great.

We don't live around the area so we were walking around the village and came upon this bakery. What a little gem! I love eclairs so we had to stop. I ate an eclair as I walked around the village. It was divine & I was so satisfied. We brought some of the danishes (strawberry, blueberry & apple), puffs, cookies and cinnamon twists home to share with family. The people there to help you were very sweet and down to earth. Stop on by and enjoy a treat there!

Small bakery and I only tried a couple things. But man oh man that one thing was amazing! See the picture posted that looks like a chocolate hard shell cupcake. Well that's what it is. Inside that bad boy is cream filling. Freaking amazing! Try to imagine a gourmet hostess cupcake but 100 times better. That's what it is.

I used to go here between study breaks when I lived in Vandenberg. I remember going here last year during Christmas and I saw Santa Clause sitting outside (greeting people) a couple stores down...I guess he's like the Mall Santa that we see in larger towns. They have excellent eclairs, chocolate chip cookies, and cinnamon rolls. I just recall that their red velvet cupcakes weren't that great. I am so thankful to have found this tiny bakery when I lived up there...

This bakery stands out because it's original, cute (they recently re-did the inside and it looks even better than ever!) and everything is SO good! The Lemon Bars are my favorite, whenever I'm in the area, I have to stop and get at least two. If you want to support a 'small town bakery run by one (amazing, nice, funny) baker/chef', this is your place. If not, go to Marie Callender's in Pismo.

I love Eclair Bakery! They are the only place I go to for cakes. I live in Templeton now so I don't get to visit as often anymore, my husband and I used to go every Saturday. Jeremy has tons of talent and always greets you with a smile. I recommend that all my brides check out Eclair Bakery! Thank you for being awesome Jeremy...we hope to make it down there soon.

Delicious homemade stuff and just a hop off the 101 freeway. Good coffee, too.
Try a muffin, they're big and substantial and full of berries. The eclairs have lots of cream and a decent chocolate glaze. Cookies are good too, but a little pricey for a cookie.
I don't think the hours listed on YELP are correct so call ahead to check.
Arroyo Grande is a nice little stop off the freeway, one of the few towns where the old-school downtown still has plenty of thriving places to eat and browse around. I hope it stays this way, everyone should hit these little mom and pop businesses and keep them running. Give some of them a try on your next journey up or down the freeway. -

two words - CINNAMON BUNS - if you are lucky to try them they are AMAZING. I don't know what Jeremy puts in them but I don't even usually like cinnamon buns (too dough and sweet), but I am positively addicted to them. I've never had anything I didn't love at Eclair Bakery but be sure you try the cinnamon buns - just leave a couple for us ;)
