For such an unpretentious looking place, the bikes were sure priced like luxury items. Most were about $1000-$1500 a pop!
It seemed like a nice place to hang out if you are already friends with all the bike dudes. Echo Park Cycles left me wishing I were rich and had a lot of friends, which, I guess, is how I feel at most places in LA. -

I have read nothing but good reviews about the quality of their bike service here so this morning when on my way to work my tire was low on air, I thought "why not bike over during lunch and get some
air?"
I understand when you are a small business that you can set you own hours but when your website and your window sign say "Saturday 11-7pm"...gee, I wonder what time people expect your shop to open?
I bike up there on a low tire and it's 12:22pm and no note, no apology, no anything! Just a locked gate and dark store.
I will keep going to DTLA bikes despite the closeness of echo park cycles. -

So... I have been looking for a bike for months now. I wanted to support a local shop and really educate myself on what I should be looking for in terms of what each shop had to offer. I walked into Echo Park Cycles after work... ready to throw down some serious $$ (I was totally fed up with driving and wanted a bike f*ing STAT). Granted, I work in an art studio and usually leave work looking pretty haggard... but I didn't care! I wanted a bike!
The 3 people working in the shop didn't even notice me standing at the counter for a while. Finally a guy said "um... can I help you?" and I replied, "Yeah! I really want to buy a bike!" He then said, "and...?"
I then explained that I really wanted to buy a road bike, preferably used and at a reasonable price. I told him that I would love to chat about their inventory and understand more about what I should be looking for.
The guy then told me that they don't sell "used" bikes, only "refurbished" bikes and they don't have anything under $400. He then told me to go to another shop that might have more bikes in my price range.
So I went to Glendale Cyclery and dropped $1,100 cash on a Specialized dolce.
Way to lose a sale! -

BEST.
BIKE.
STORE.
EVER!
I've been here with a friend just hanging out and the staff was courteous, friendly and without one iota of pretentiousness.
I've been here to get my bike fixed and I received a phone calls from the staff constantly updating me on the condition of my bike. The price of the work done was cheap and fair.
I came in last week and told them I wanted to buy a new derailer and they actually talked me out of it. Any other shop would probably push me into the direction of them receiving more money.
They took a look at my bike. They REMEMBERED my bike from the last time I brought it then they started to fix it.
While they were fixing my bike, they gave me some advice on how to avoid the problems in the future. They told funny stories. They made me want to hang out there even longer.
In the end, they just charged me a 5spot. I didn't see a tip cup but man, these guys need one. I want to stop by a few times a month and slip them a 20.
Hell, I want to write them a song or a poem or go to camp and make them a lanyard.
This is the type of bike shop every neighborhood deserves but doesn't get.
Orange 20?! I'm looking in your direction. Take a lesson from these guys. This is how you are supposed to treat customers. -

I love this place. I take my bike here now for all sorts of random repairs. It's a small shop, so it has a personal feel. The staff always talks to you and works with your budget. They find ways to make all your bike desires come true.
They might not have every part on the planet in stock, but ask them to order it for you. It's worth the wait. -

I'd consider this one underrated shop by the growing cycling community. I know they just recently changed their hours, which should be better but their previous hours were understandable.
I can only put this short; I have always been served with great assistance. Never have I been given any hard nosed attitude. Even I, who on some days will look like a typical hipster recently joining the fixed gear fandom, has been treated well. Not that that would warrant less respect.
They are still getting things together but it all looks promising. They're inventory is kept up with quality parts and, as mentioned, anything they don't have they can order. All owners and employees are working messengers and know their craft. It would be ill-advised not to support the shop. -

Stopped in here first for a tune-up. Not only did my bike feel a million times better when I picked it up, it was also cleaner than it had ever been.
On another occasion I was in the hood and somehow lost the nut and bold to hold on my pb Superflash. He searched around and found something that fit and didn't charge me (not that a nut and bolt would be pricey, but just to take the time and help out was rad) -

Thank GOD this place opened. I had my vintage Schwinn sitting under the porch for months, waiting to get a tuneup, and waiting in vain since there was no nearby bike place and I don't have a bike rack on my car. And also I'm lazy.
Anyway, I finally got to take it down the street to Echo Park Cycles, and they did a lovely job getting it all cleaned up and ready to go for a flat fee of $45. Plus they're super nice and have convenient late hours. Now I never have to succumb and get a bike rack or prostrate myself in front of the Bicycle Kitchen ever again. -

They're not closed down! They just moved, and are as awesome as ever. I love these guys. I would go to them over every other bike shop in town, no question.
I don't have a lot of money, nor am I a "bike dude," but they have welcomed me and helped me innumerable times with everything from finding a random screw to replace a lost one on my brake to getting me on a plan for a new bike.
They will take care of you. Check 'em out! -

Just bought a sweet bike from them. I'm a bike newbie, and was somewhat intimidated at the prospect of shopping for a bike and not knowing exactly what I wanted or what was out there.
They very patiently explained things to me and helped me try on different bikes according to my needs and skill level, and once I found my bike, ran through basic care and maintenance etc. and were also just super nice. No bike snobbery to be found. ( I had shopped around and stopped by Orange 20 and the guy there was also super helpful as well, but Echo Park Cycles is closer and their selection at my price range was better.)
And they threw in a year of free repairs when I purchased my bike, which is awesome, since I am not that bike repair savvy on my own as of yet.
And they have a very cute little watch dog. -

Echo Park cycles is an excellent neighborhood bike shop.
Everybody is really sweet and helpful from the shop dog on up.
The selection isn't huge, because the shop isn't huge.
They carry a refined selection of great stuff and will do special orders for you.
Their hours are limited during the week because all the owners are all working bike messengers.
I took my bike in today. A fixed gear with a slightly noisy chain. They fixed it up real fast and got it running super smooth.
Echo Park cycles is one of those L.A. gems. A warm and soulful family shop run by people who truly love what they are doing. -

A great, low key, old-fashioned kind of place.
Rolled my mountain bike in with a broken chain, and pedaled out 10 minutes later with a new chain.

How long does a guy have to stand in a store before someone who works there says a word to you?
I guess if you're not already riding in there on your fixie, don't bother.
Super super pretentious lot working in here. You're either in their club or your not. I guess if you're in, it might be good service... but, uh that's obviously not any good way to run a business.
So long. -

Bout time I updated. They've broadened their parts selection, and the service and helpfulness is as good as ever. Great shop.
Oh, and I retract my previous dig at Orange 20. Since they moved to their new location they've improved their service.
I still like EPC more though!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I've been fixing up an old Bianchi road bike. Got the parts and it was mostly together, but needed brakes installed, cables, bar wrapped and minor adjustment. Dropped off at the mighty Echo Park Cycles at 6:00pm on Sunday. They called at 2:00pm Monday..."You're bike is ready." Amazing! Owned and operated by Los Angeles messengers who love any type of bicycle. Echo Park Cycles ROCK!

I love this shop. Friendly, knowledgeable folks, reasonable prices, and a smallish but well-chosen selection. Zero attitude, excellent atmosphere, and a great (for me) location. And yeah, cute dog! They are now my official go-to shop for all my bike needs.
Update on 12/08: after a bunch of shopping around I bought a new bike from Echo Park Cycles yesterday. I'd been dropping in frequently to ogle their bikes, buy various accessories, and pick their brains about this and that. They were consistently excellent to deal with so I was happy to purchase this bike from them. As a bonus, their price was lower than I'd found anywhere else for this model. They earned my business and they got it. -

This is one of the friendliest shops of any sort I've ever been to. Twice I've brought them a bike and they've done a tune up immediately (1 day turn around) for under $40. Other places tell me I have to wait 2 weeks.
It's a neighborhood place. When they open in the morning, there's a line of kids of all ages needing air in their tyres. (I like that spelling.) -

i stopped in tonight on my way home from a friend's house. the shop caught my eye with their cool looking logo and plenty of parking all around. they didn't have the biggest selection of bikes, but the bikes they did have were really rad. the girl (michelle?) working was super nice and let me test drive one of the bikes even tho i told her i'm not in the market to buy a bike at the moment.
the prices didn't seem too outrageous and i'm typically more than happy to support independent local businesses. i think i'll be back to buy that bike soon! -

A store that is run by people who grew up in the neighborhood, people who are actually want to get you on a bike, not just make a profit. What more can I say. The best bike store in Los Angeles.

... and my love affair with Echo Park (my new home) continues...
I just found this shop about a week ago, a couple of months after I moved to Echo Park. I've been taking my road bike to Helen's cycles in Santa Monica for tune-ups for the last few years (and have honestly never had a truly pleasant experience there), but decided to give this place a shot after finding it.
What a great experience. I needed a new set of rims and a tune-up. David helped me out. He was extremely friendly and helpful - and was able to turn my bike around in less than a day! It rides as good as it ever has. I will be taking my bike here from now on, and referring all of my friends here too.
I'm looking forward to supporting this shop for a long time to come. -

Super friendly staff, they will never sell you something that you don't need. They are open late unlike other bike shops that close at 5

Love this spot. When it's not too busy, they'll let you get behind the counter and show you how to do whatever of bike maintenance you need. Everyone's knowledgeable and cool, and the bikes they have for sale are dope. They also have all the accessories and tools you could need. I recently went in to put a set of drop bars on my single speed. The bars I had didn't fit with my stem, but they had an older set laying around that they sold me for cheap, and wrapped up with a nice tape job. It feels good to support my local businesses, and I recommend it to anyone. Keep riding.

Really as easy and straightforward as people say. More importantly, I left very happy with the results and the price. I visited for a tuneup. I'm going back to purchase a new bike in '09.

I needed an indicator spindle for a circa 1969 English Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub on my Raleigh Twenty and they had one! Nice. And knew what kind of shift cable I needed. Cool. I'll be back.

I must have caught them on a bad day. The photos with all of the bikes in the store did not match what I saw when I went into the store. There was a VERY limited selection. And all of the bikes were a bit pricey. I gave it three stars because of the selection. It appears as though the staff is very helpful and they had quite a lot of repairs going on. So, they aren't a shop that deserves a poor rating, but I feel as though my fellow Yelpers raised my expectations.....which were not really met. Usually you guys do not fail me!

I meant to write this a while ago, but feel as strongly now as i did a few weeks ago when I went to Echo Park Cycles. I had the BEST experience. The guys (and gal) there are always nice and always helpful. I never get the feeling that I am asking them same that they've been asked 10,000 times (though I am sure they have) I get a warm fuzzy feeling when I ride by there even! I DO get faced every time walk in and see some nice old bike and "WANNNT!!!" and then they're like ...no it's a customer's bike. I wish they would sell cleaned up old road bikes =) anyhooo I feel super lucky to have this as my local bike shop!! 4 more years 4 more years!!!

This is the most underrated bike shop in Los Angeles. This hidden gem is all about bikes. Ozzy and the clan are messengers and know plenty about their craft. I have taken many bikes there with various problems and they have all came out great. They have a lot of items and what they dont can be ordered. The prices are very reasonable too.
Everytime i go there are always new additions.
Best shop around, hands down. -

Classic bike shop. Reasonably priced. Good parts and good people. (2 are volunteers at The Bike Kitchen) Nice to see a business focused on quality work and not up-selling people. Been there 6 times, for various reasons, and always had a good experience.

Everyone else already said it. For a no-nonsense bike shop you just can't beat E.P. Cycles. Fast repairs. Great prices. It's a small place and inventory is minimal but they can order anything you want or need. This place makes me happy!

Really nice and excellent service. I brought in two bikes with problems and asked them to tell me which would be the best value to repair (cause I only needed one)...and they were really cool at taking the time to assess both of them, give me really useful advice on them. And the bike the did fix feels like new.

Echo Park Cycles is by far my favorite bike shop for repairs or purchases. As friendly as the bike scene can be, it's still a little intimidating at times, but i never feel even the least bit uncomfortable asking questions at Echo Park Cycles, even when I know they're stupid ones. I've made plenty of bad purchases at other shops, even when they were being very helpful, because I was afraid to sound like I didn't know what I was talking about. Not a problem in this shop, as as they've always been really open with what I do and don't need, and friendly to where I don't feel bad for not knowing everything there is to know about bikes. They're the equivalent of the trusted car mechanic that you find, recommend to all your friends, and go to for everything.

So I purchased my bike and anytime I have a problem (being that I'm a new rider) I can take my bike to them and they can fix it either on the spot or within 24 hours. I don't know many bike shops that can do that. Another huge plus is that recently they expanded their hours so that is even better. Still, my bike shop after a couple of months of riding.
