For the price, I think there's no better place to golf in the Puget Sound area.

At any course worth their salt, $40 seems to be the sweet spot for any round within a reasonable drive from Seattle. I play Echo pretty frequently, and it's value only really hits you when you stray and play a place like Willows or Mt. Si - courses so overbooked and overused that you long for the satisfying crackle of the power lines high above many of the tee boxes there.

That isn't to say that it's empty. Nay, Echo Falls gets a fair amount of use. The difference comes in how the course is maintained, and it is maintained well. Even several days after a torrential downpour, during which many of the greens were flooded over, the course bounced back like it never happened.

The course itself is a test in "target golf", at the same time rewarding a well placed shot and not unfairly punishing one that strays. It's firm but fair. #17 and #18 are a fantastic way to finish a round, with #17 being one of the more difficult holes I've played.

The dogleg right par 4 at #17 puts you at a decision: go for the shallow green on your second shot, or bail out left onto the safe landing area for an easy chip up? Evoking a scene out of the movie Tin Cup, the water gobbles up many of these shots, and taking one or two more clubs than you need is good advice. It doesn't help that the wind always seems to blow in here.

The water surrounding the island hole par 3 #18 serves as a picturesque finish with the architecturally striking clubhouse in the background.

Make sure to grab an after-round meal at the restaurant there, where they serve great food for a reasonable price. Sitting on the back patio allows you to take in the view of both #17 and #18, so don't be surprised if dollar bets begin as people hit some of the most treacherous shots of their round. I'll put a buck on the guy in the visor!

My scale:
5 of 5 Stars - Would make a special, even long-distance trip to go here, and evangelize its greatness to others
4 of 5 Stars - A go-to option, even if there were other more convenient or less expensive options available
3 of 5 Stars - Inclined to give it another shot, just to see
2 of 5 Stars - Would not go back, once was enough
1 of 5 Stars - Would actively avoid, would recommend against going to others, experience filled with great sadness and regret

This course is always in great shape and is one of the less expensive Oki Golf courses.  This is pure target golf and is a challenge for mid to
high handicap golfers.  This is a tough walking course and I would recomend a cart unless you like walking up hills.  The powerlines are a distraction on a few holes but the plusses out weigh any minuses.   Holes 17 and 18 might be the two best finishing holes in the State. 17 is a tight par four with water on the right and OB on the left.  You will need to carry the water to get on in regulation.  18 is a par three Island green hole.  On a personal note - I had a hole in one this Summer on this hole.  157 yard seven iron.  One of the reasons that Iike this course.
