My dad is a hairdresser. As a result, I don't normally allow other people to touch my hair. I'll usually go 6 months to a year between haircuts just so I can drive 9 hours north and get it done for free. By the time I pay for gas, my time and sometimes a car rental, my "free" haircut ends up costing me a couple hundred bucks.
It's been 5 months since my last trim, and my hair has become an obvious mess, so I opted for Ecco Hair studio since it's within walking distance of my apartment. I called and easily got an appointment for the next day (saturday).
The salon itself is beautiful, and they even had breakfast out for the customers (bagels, iced and hot coffee). I was greeted upon arrival and only had to wait a couple minutes for my appointment with Kim. She assessed the condition of my hair and made some suggestions to improve fullness and bounce before taking me to the shampoo bowl. From there, the cut and style were great, she even gave me styling suggestions and didn't try to sell me a ton of products afterwards.
Overall, a great experience, great location and a great stylist.
Was looking for a new stylist when my original one went and have a baby and I got refered to Ecco.
My stylist Mari is always on time for appointments, never make me wait more than 10 minutes when I get there and pays alot of attention to details. Not everyone knows what hairstyle they want when they walk in to a salon but she took as much time as needed for me to flip through a bunch of magazines to explain myself. The cut was cheaper than what I originally paid and the haircut got alot of compliments. I recommend this place highly.

I can't believe I got up for an 8 am hair appointment, but I'm so glad I did (the pain of this was eased by the cute coffee shop next door). Lindsey did exactly what I wanted and moreso. I brought in a pic but had a hundred tentative caveats about what I wanted, and she just seemed to get it.
First place in a long time that I haven't gone straight home to totally redo my hair.
In fact, even after getting only 3 or so hours of sleep to make it to that 8 a.m. Saturday appointment, I didn't want to nap later that day for fear of messing up my new 'do! :)

I had a lot of fun this evening with Lindsay at Ecco Hair Studio. I told her exactly what I wanted and she did it. Then we worked together to take it up a notch, and it worked. I told her I wanted "feminine bad ass" and she gave it her all. I think it's a great idea to have at least an idea or a vision of what you want your hair to look like. I got exactly what I wanted and then some. As a stylist, Lindsay is pleased to give you what you want and if you ask (she's never pushy) hypotheticals about the cut, or want to challenge your original idea, she is excited to take you to that level. She said she is a little conservative about cutting the length and takes her time doing so...I encouraged her to cut some more, and at the end of our time together, she gave ME a hug for wanting something a little edgy/funky, or if you will, feminine bad ass. Truly, she is a hair artist.

Okay, so I decided I wanted to go shorter. Had a bit of a tough time coordinating my schedule with Lindsay's so I went to HER favorite, Mandy. This woman did what I wanted, how I wanted, and she loved what I wanted. A littler pricier than my first cut but still think it worth it. She also washed my hair herself and did a damn good job. It was an ecstatic experience, well as much as a shampoo can be. I mean, I relish that kind of touch so I had a ball. I love my hair, I feel sassy as hell!
As a former resident of South Pasadena, I really love the location of this salon. Ecco is neatly sandwhiched between Kaldi and Firefly. Their parking is situated right next to the building, and of course you can always find something on the street. Ecco is the only local salon I know whose backbar is stocked with Davines products- which is a fantastic line.
I've been visiting Lindsay on an obsessive basis for about 2 years now. I'm pretty neurotic about the color and style of my hair and she has taken my hair from one extreme to the next- brown, black, red, copper, and now blonde- all while maintaining health and strength. She's applied extensions for my hair 3 times and has also done my makeup for weddings. She's super super talented, and to top it all off she absolutely has the best sense of humor I've had the pleasure of experiencing with a stylist.
Great Walk-In services they offer on Sundays. My horribly damaged hair got fixed and she actually made it feel like hair again (instead of straw!) thanks to her conditioning treatment.
Only thing that disappointed was that my white hairs were not totally covered by the dye job. I also wish there was more attention to detail. Bummer. Still good place and fast.

Anna is great for cutting hair. Chris rocks with the color. Staff is nice and it's fairly easy to get an appointment. They sell Kerastase products. Oh, and bang trims are free!
I walked into the salon a bit late for my appointment (my appointment was 11:00 AM, i walked in at 11:15AM). The salon had a nice modern decor to it, bustling with clients and great vibe. Greeted by a receptionist, and perhaps my potential stylist standing there. I let them know who I am, and the response I got from the receptionist was, "Kim's next appointment is at 11:45AM". Uh.. OKAY.. Well, I am here it's 11:15 AM I am a NEW client I don't think 30 minutes is sufficient time for a cut. So I ask if there are any other stylist available I don't care who I get my cut with, at least I get a hair cut. Next appointment was at 1PM with a different stylist. I did not have time to wait around. The stylist asked me to come back the next day!!! Why would I make an appointment for Saturday.. and come back Sunday??!?!! not knowing the type of cut I would get. Hence I did not get a hair cut, and the customer service there is absolutely horrid!
When I made the appointment I let the receptionist know that I am a NEW client. I did not think a hair salon made their appointments back-to-back 45 mins apart, knowing that the first client was a NEW client!!!
This was the first time I went to the salon, and I couldn't be happier. It's right next door to Kaldi, so I thought I'd take a chance on it. The price is great ($45+) for a good haircut you'd pay more for in Silverlake or Pasadena. The place was busy when I walked in on Saturday, but I didn't wait long. Lindsay was my stylist and did a fantastic job cutting my hair. She took her time but also was careful to ask how short she should go. Luckily, I wanted to go as short as she could. She's real friendly, laid back and didn't push any products on me. I'm definitely going back and keeping her as my stylist.
Karina is the only stylist I have touch my lovely locks, and I see her every few weeks at Ecco. This talented little lady knows how to give a good cut and color, and for a decent price too! This hair studio is located in a historical building on a quiet street in So. Pasadena next to some of my favorite shops. So next time you need a little trim, stop by Ecco and ask for Karina, when she's done with you- you'll never want to go to another stylist again.
