Even with babies screaming and throwing tantrums at the table next to ours, I still had a great experience here. I was told not to come here because the food was expensive and the service was lousy.
Given those expectations, I still came here because there really aren't any good breakfast places in the Richmond. Upon arrival, we were greeted and given a table promptly. Both Sara D. and I were drawn to the chicken and waffles and a Cobb salad.
The Waffles here were crispy yet fluffy. Probably the best waffles I have had in a while. The maple syrup was amazing as well. The savory chicken with gravy was good but it could've used some seasoning. I love restaurants that use panko on fried chicken. It's not your typical fried chicken where you get a drumstick, thigh, and breast piece. It was just a boneless chicken breast. It was moist and crispy. The mushroom gravy sauce was good as well. A must try.
The Cobb salad was good just not great. It would be a lot better if they made their diced chicken made to order rather than precooked dried up chicken pieces. Q down the block makes a really good salad. How come there aren't any great salad places in the Richmond district?
Overall, a cool little diner in the Richmond District. -

This place has never let me down. If you don't mind a 15-20 minute wait then you'll have a great experience here.
I have always gone for breakfast on the weekends so I knew that there would be some sort of a wait no matter what at any cute breakfast place. They have a chalkboard outside where you can write your name and specify if you want a private table or don't mind a communal table. I've sat at both and don't mind the coziness. You also have to be the kind of person that doesn't mind a loud happy atmosphere full of conversations and music (now that I think of it, is there music?) haha.
They have regular mimosas as well as apple mimosas that give you a little buzz so you know they don't skip out on the champagne like some places. They have a great variety of breakfast items and a few sandwich options for those who are looking for more lunch choices.
The only problem I've had here is during a busy Sunday morning my credit card was given to another table and charger $33 dollars when my bill was only $12. The people at the table realized it wasn't their card luckily so I was given it back and reimbursed, however it always takes about 4-5 business days to get it refunded. That can be a hassle for a struggling student or someone who always has to check their bank account when making a purchase like me.
Overall I have always had a great experience here. The food is delicious and the eggs are cooked to perfection. I had a fried egg, arugula sandwich on ciabatta bread and my boyfriend had the caprese scrambled eggs...mmmm! Their home fries and french fries aren't bad either! -

This is one of the best little places in San Francisco to have breakfast. So, that makes it one of the best places in the Richmond District (where there really aren't that many breakfast places from which to choose), too.
I had the Spicy Tomato Skillet this morning. If you are a kale fan, like me, you could also call this a Spicy Kale Skillet, too. It's served with two eggs sunnyside-up atop a sort of vegetable stew consisting of lots and lots of kale, sliced red potatoes, tomatoes, onions, and green and red bell peppers. It was all very good, and made even better with a side order of their roasted home potatoes ~ the secret is (or not so secret, as it's chock full o') whole cloves of roasted garlic, too. These can be used in place of butter on your toast if you like (and I like).

First time I'd been back since the ownership changed. The bacon waffle, as great as it sounds, was disappointing and lacked cohesiveness. It was a pile of eggs on top of a waffle with a strip of bacon baked in. Sounds like it would be good right? It wasn't.
My best tip to you: if you order a dish with a side, get the fruit cup. Even if you love home fries(also weren't very good) they've got a great little fruit cup, and you'll feel o so good about yourself.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I hate to do it but I have to knock a star off for Eats. While it's a cute and cozy brunch spot, their service leaves much to be desired. It took a little over 10 minutes for someone to come take our drink and food order. Later, I asked for some jam, because ya know...you need that for toast, and I never got it.
I saw a sign that they are looking for a server so hopefully they get someone soon. I really do like this place, I just wish their service was better!Listed in: Brunch!

Ugh. I wanted to like this place so much. But alas, I cannot... Problem #1 cramped space, too many kids - even on a weekday morning when they should have been in school.
Problem #2, unseasoned, bland eggs topped with something dry and green, which could not be identified due to dryness and lack of flavor - felt like twigs. Is this why there were so many condiments on the table? To encourage you to compensate for the lack of flavor?
Problem #3, ordered Chicken Sausage as a compliment to the eggs, they sliced it in half before cooking it, and then turned it into jerky - what a disappointment - truly horrible, had to saw through it like wood, then left it anyway. It was inedible. What a waste of the up-charge.
Tangential rhetorical question...why do this? Is is because restaurants are afraid to cook a sausage properly, serve it whole, and potentially have someone burned when cutting into it? It is sacrilegious to cut a sausage in half before cooking it... However, I do not entirely blame restaurants for this...I blame lawyers, and people who whine over being burned by delicious cased meats. People, properly cooked cased meats can be dangerous - suck it up and risk the burn - it must be cooked whole to taste good. If you are burned, shine it on and leave the restaurant alone - or order bacon, otherwise we will all end up eating cardboard cased meats.
Back to Eats... Problem #4, flaky service, brain seemed to be shut off, we would ask for things, get the "sure, no problem" and then the individual would commence clearing other tables, wiping up, getting checks, and standing around before having to be reminded about what we just asked for - this is with no one waiting to be seating. This would have been understandable if there was a line, but with no line...folks, people first, cleaning second.
A positive, the whole cloves of roasted garlic in the potatoes were an interesting addition. -

My mom comes here all the time and always brings home her second half of her brunch, which I get to eat! Even though I eat it hours later, it's still SO good. She always orders an omelet with avocados and spinach with their house potatoes.
I came here with the dude for brunch on a sunny Saturday and I wanted to sit outside to soak in the rays. He ordered a Cobb salad and I ordered a small order of waffles with berries and we both had coffee. Coffee was good, strong and not very acidic, just the way I like. My waffle with berries were delicious-cripsy on the outside, tender on the inside with just the right amount of berries and whipped cream sitting on top.
We didn't have to wait very long to be seated and didn't have to wait very long for someone to take our order. Good food, good service. Now I know why my mom comes here all the time! -

Good ol' Richmond Eats.
There's nothing like a good American breakfast to start your day up right. Well, if your anything like me, chow is continuous, and you love the simple joys of sleeping in and having breakfast well past the afternoon. That's where Eats come in. A small brunchary located in my neighborhood, the Richmond. Quite one of the only traditional breakfast joints within the area too, unless your diggin' for some Denny's or Mel's Drive-In (noty)..
B.A.T. Scrambled Eggs - http://www.yelp.com/bi...
BACON!+Avocado+Tomato (the BLT of breakfast scrambles). The bacon was thick cut and crispy, they were very generous with the amount of avocado, and the scrambled eggs topped with the freshly chopped tomatoes made for a satisfying meal that didn't feel overly heavy.
Jr. Pancakes - http://www.yelp.com/bi...
With the use of freshly cut strawberries, blueberries, and bananas, it was cute how they plated it to look like bears (see picture). I think my little sister really enjoyed that. Hey, if my sister is happy, that makes me happy!
Hummus and Eggs - http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Surprisingly good. Don't get me wrong, I haven't converted into no vegetarian or anything (don't be absurd), but the hummus had a great spicy kick that jumped out of nowhere, which was also pretty filling.
Chicken and Waffles - http://www.yelp.com/bi...
The waffles were cooked perfectly, warm, and soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, but the chicken was sadly over cooked.. the gray-brownish mushroom sauce didn't look too appetizing either.. However, the Eats crew happily replaced the meal for us, no frills.
Eats is a nice cozy place to grab some homey morning food and with some minor tinkering, they can have breakfast down like Mama's. The service was nice and friendly, especially when we wanted to send the chicken back, and it was simply great just to have a place that I could take my little sister for breakfast (she never had pancakes before). Just be advised that coming early is recommended because a line WILL form during peak hours, and a +3.5% HealthySF fee is applied on all visits.Listed in: Thee Richmond District

Try the Hummus dish and the chicken and waffles and wash everything down with a Refresher drink.
I would of totally gave this place 5 stars, but the server tossed all my table left overs in the trash and we had so much food....The server knew she made a mistake and kindly told us she would take care us next time we come in. -

I'm not going to lie, I never wanted to give this place a chance when I first saw it. This is definitely just my opinion, but the only people I saw who ate there were stuck-up yuppies. There were about a billion, mid-thirties couples with newborns just living there perfect lives. I guess that's just not my scene. Although, the first time I decided I was going to try the place, my friend and I waited for about an hour and started seeing people that came after us being seated first. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that my friend and I just didn't hear them call my name out. Although, we didn't feel like waiting anymore so we left.
On a day that wasn't so busy, I went to go check the place out. The food was actually quite delicious. I can really appreciate a breakfast joint if you can tell the food is good quality and that your stomach is satisfied at the end of your meal. Eats passed my two essentials.
The picky part of me that has to take a star away is that the portions could be a little bigger, especially for the price. I suppose this goes back to the scene I'm not super in to. I could see someone that doesn't really care so much about spending $20 on breakfast giving this place 5 stars. However, I'm a guy who likes to eat and who likes to eat without breaking his wallet.
The employees here are awesome!! Andrew, Emily, and Olivia are genuine folks. The food here is awesome! Got to try the Spanish Scramble! -

Eats is amazing because...
It specializes in breakfast, MY FAVORITE MEAL OF THE DAY, and it can be really difficult to find a good breakfast spot in the city, ESPECIALLY in the Richmond.
Furthermore, all of the breakfast favorites are executed perfectly; pancakes, waffles, french toast, omelets, strong coffee, various flavors of Mimosas, a fabulous sandwich....everything!!!!
God I love this place. Just avoid the Sunday chaos for a better experience. -

Honest good home food, charming and sweet are the first things I think of when I think of Eats.
My favorite would have to be the Waffle Bacon, although from samples I can sufficiently say that I doubt you'll be disappointed. Be prepared for a wait though, and a bursting belly. -

This is one of the cuter (or only?) brunch spots in the Richmond district. I came here with a friend for brunch. We had to write our name on a long list outside. We had to sit outside since my friend brought her dog, and since there's only 3 tables outside, we had to wait a while... about 45 minutes. Otherwise the wait would have been closer to 30-35 minutes to sit inside.
They have many brunch options to choose from, so I chose the chorizo dish which was tasty. I'm eager to go back and try more things! -

First off, the food here is not that special. The potatoes were unseasoned, the waffle was bland and my scrabmled eggs were wattery. It took 45 minutes to get seated (for some reason this place stays busy), when they did call us they gave our seats to someone else! When we approached the hostess, she said it was a mistake (apparently you have less than a second to appear once they call you or you go to the "no show" list). She did immediately seat us, then we waited another 30 minutes for the nasty food. Never coming here again! I would have been better off at Ihop! One star for seating us right away after they fu**ed up. Rant over.

For a Sunday brunch, expect the wait to be half an hour or so, but the boyfriend and I were lucky, the weather was beautiful outside, so the wait went by quickly.
It was our first time at Eats and the bf was pretty much set on the ham and eggs benedict, while I kept debating over a scramble or the chicken & waffles. Our waitress was ever so patient as I first went with scramble, then quickly changed my mind, and then I went on right ahead to ask her for a recommendation. She suggested the chicken & waffle EVER SO NICELY and I docilely complied.
When the gigantic plate of fried chicken topped with gravy and mushroom & two thick slices of waffles came out, I knew it was going to last me for the day. It was extremely delicious, I especially loved the mushroom and gravy, it was a delightful twist to the traditional fried chicken. The benedict wasn't all too impressive, but the garlic house potatoes (with actual cloves of garlic) took my boyfriend's breath away.
Overall, Eats was a good dining experience, the waitress was super nice and helpful, definitely a must try breakfast/ brunch joint. -

I had the chicken and waffles, yesterday, and it was sooooo good. The chicken was so tender and juicy, the gravy was delicious. Oh the waffles were worth waiting for last, soft and crispy on the edges, delicious! We went early and were seated in less than 10 minutes! The staff is so friendly. I am a new fan! I wanted to come back after a few hours had passed! I love EATS! I am going to try everything on the menu...

This is a great place for breakfast or brunch. The servers are really friendly and the whole atmosphere is very cozy.
I recommend the huevos rancheros, but it seems that basically everything on the menu is good, in its own right.
The only reason this place is four stars instead of five is that the mimosas struck me as being a little pricey, considering the size served. Maybe its a price-point thing and they need to be that expensive to pull a profit? I'm not too savvy on how expensive blood oranges are. -
Review from Quinn S.
So, the chicken part of chicken and waffles was the highlight, but nothing to write home about. The spinach and mushroom benedict was lousy, and I was surprised that the server didn't even ask when she took my plate away less than half eaten, but maybe they are used to it.
Service was really slow too, seemingly forgetting we were there. Asked for water soon after being seated and didn't see our server for over ten minutes before she returned to take our food order without bringing the water.
The questionably "maple" syrup was lousy too. Maybe it was just Canadian, but it was almost flavorless and seemed diluted. As a Vermonter, I take my syrup seriously... not to mention that the menu said it was supposed to come with honey butter not syrup.
Two stars is starting to feel generous. Not sure why anyone waits on the sidewalk for this place. -

Great brunch mimosa (mmm...and comes in blood orange too!). Great savory egg dishes.
But there are only a few dishes for those with a sweet tooth which makes it hard for me to come here with my boyfriend.
Also, a breakfast spot like this should have a weekly special to keep its novelty since there are many great spots in the city. That being said, when I want a mimosa and a scramble, Eats is where I come. -
Review from Rose t.
San Francisco, CA
Despite walking out from a nearly $50 lunch (owie).
Smoked salmon omelet was stuffed full of salmon, tomato, more salmon...but not enough cream cheese. and cream cheese was just sorta plopped in there.
But the eggs were super fluffy - way better than other eggs of recent memory.
But everything was just sandwiched it. Should have been a big scramble, I feel. You know, so the cream cheese gets all melty, and everything mixes up all tasty like.
Taters on the side were really well executed - crispy, bite sized, and centered around a giant roast garlic head. Hello garlic!
I just think it should have all been a scramble not an omelet. But I forgot that during giant bites of salmon.
Husband enjoyed his waffle bacon with sunny side eggs.
$5 for grapefruit juice.
$7 (!!!) for blood orange juice
$3 for coffee.
Still, I must admit- the food was great. Fresh, well prepared.
Friendly staff.
Just a wee pricey, eh?
Of course, I admit I will return. -

Hopped on a 30min bus ride just to get chicken & waffles at this spot. I was NOT disappointed!
If you're looking for classic fried chicken and waffles, this isn't your place. Eats spin on the dish is a bit lighter, a bit more modern and a whole lot easier on my tummy. Boneless, skinless chicken that's perfectly fried and drizzled in the most scrumptious gravy. I liked that the waffles were a totally manageable size and not some massive sticky carby mountain accompanying my chicken.
Bf had the bacon waffles-also a hit! We went on a Saturday, mid-morning and only waited 10-15 minutes. I would definitely wait longer! -
Review from Tim S.
San Jose, CA
I am shocked, SHOCKED, that the rating isn't higher. We've been here at least 6 times, we drive 45 mins from the east bay just to go here.
It's a small place, only about 8 tables. They can't handle large groups very well, party of 2 or 4 is best. We usually try to get there before 9am so the wait isn't too long. We've never had a problem with the service, it's always been good.
The food is very good, they put a little bit of a twist on things, it's not just your standard pancake and eggs kind of place. The food is always very fresh and well made. I don't even like telling people about this place, I want it all to myself. -

How have I not know of this place before??? I've aimlessly (and negligently!) passed by this lovable culinary resto for years on my way to hair appointments, chinese/thai dinners, and meaningless perusing and shopping at Kamei. Finally came upon this place after yelp search for post-work breakfast joints.
Had the ham and bacon benedict which was delicious and the potatoes were OMG. I usually pass on potatoes to reduce bland carb intake, but these looked too delicious and I was pleasantly satisfied. So well seasoned!! My neighbor's waffles with berries looked off the charts good, I had to stop myself from doing the unthinkable and swipe a bite.
Mugs are cute, bought one for $10 =). -

walking past this place, i never gave it a second thought. i always figured it to be like any other random diner you'd come upon. but on a sunday after walking the Kaiser 5k, a couple friends and i went for brunch. surprisingly i found us waiting outside with a bunch of other people, indicating that Eats was a popular spot.
i ordered the eggplant sandwich because more often than not eggplant sandwiches suck, so i it was my test. turns out the sandwich was super flavorful and i was very pleased with it. my friend got the fried chicken which also looked very good. i think i'll be returning for sure. -

More of a 3.5 than 3, but the service was a deciding factor in giving it 3 stars. Came here with a group of 5 and had to wait about 40-55 mins, which isn't TOO bad considering it was sunday around 11:30ish and we didn't really have a small group. We got the eggs benedict, bacon & egg sandwich, and chicken and waffles and I got the polenta with chorizo. Everything was REALLY good except for my polenta and chorizo... I should have known because it wasn't a "typical" breakfast meal and polenta was lukewarm and sort of coagulated which wasn't that great. Also, the onions with the chorizo weren't cooked as much as I liked. Also, the chicken and waffles was good but its not your "typical" fried chicken and I think I prefer House of fried chicken and roscoe's fried chicken more.
Also, service was not great. They seemed super overwhelmed with the customers and we didn't get our water until AFTER we got our meal. It also took about 10-15 mins to get our order in.
All in all, solid brunch place. -

I grew up around this area, but I have never ever tried this place! I dont know whY!!! My dad wanted to eat at a breakfast place near his doc because he had to starve for 24 hours for a check up. and so we came here. He really liked it!
He had their waffle with fresh fruit on top. and he finished every bit of it n looked happy. lol
I had their spinach and mushroom eggs benedict. VERY good. I had it with the potatoes.
Interesting how they put roasted garlic (unpeeled) with the potatoes.
Wish they cut the fruit thicker, its a good palette cleanser.
Service is great -

Haven't had a 5 star experience in some time, so I'm very excited I had one today!!
Always been scared of the wait at Eats, apparently the rush is before 11:30 on the weekends, so we scored our cozy table after a short 15-20 minute wait. My only real complaint came during the waiting period, I was hoping for a cup of Joe to sip while I waited for my much anticipated breakfast-I was disappointment when the explanation was that the coffee machine could not accommodate in house guests and outside waits. All was good when we got our table as my coffee was literally waiting for me before I sat down :)
The thing I liked most about this place was the waffles-light, airy, crispy/crunchy crust on the outside and melt in your mouth on the inside. Just totally perfect-especially with whipped cream and berries. I'm so so sad I didn't get more than one! My counterparts both got the same dish-the Caprese salad which included: arugula, fresh mozzarella, eggplant and pesto sauce. I had a bite, delicious!! Also, the dudes in the kitchen know how to make over-medium eggs at Eats, you'd be surprised how many cooks don't know how to cook eggs in this city.
One of the best parts of this place are the portions. At a nearby restaurant, which I wont name but starts with the letter Q, one receives massive portions without real quality. Eats is the opposite, they serve up fresh ingredients they dont weigh you down the rest of the day because they don't serve you 3 lbs of greasy/salty food on your plate-they also freshly squeezed juices like the 'detox (beets, carrot, ginger, orange). YUM!
Expect a wait most of the time-but you can put your name down, walk down to the Blue Danube for an amazing latte and come back to a yummy breakfast. Very recommended and they can easily accommodate larger groups (6-8) in a small space! -

Expect a long line if you're going on the weekend. We made the mistake and went at 11am, and it was a busy busy hour. We had to wait... 30-40 min? Somewhere around there.
We ordered the Belgian Waffles with Berries & Cream to share as a appetizer for the table. And it was sooo soo good. The Belgian Waffle was so crisp and delicious with the sweet cream. Mhmm makes me want to buy a Belgian Waffle maker but I don't have the room to store it. The only downside to this dish was the pomegranate seeds. It's a little disconcerting munching down on this item when you have to worry about chomping into a pomegranate seed. Otherwise it was a delicious!
I ordered the Fried Chicken sandwich and it was indeed huge like other reviewers have mentioned. But I was expecting a chicken breast breaded and fried, instead it seemed like a chicken patty. I think it's the same chicken patty they use for the Chicken & Waffles. Think of it as a chicken katsu since I think it is using Panko breading. But yummy nonetheless.
My husband got the steak sandwich and that was loaded with steak meat but was also dripping with juices. I believe there was grilled onions mixed into it. I couldn't tell because it was just dripping with juice. He loved it though.
Our cousins both got omlettes, one got the Omelette with Salmon and the other one got the Spanish Omelette. And both of them said it was really good and they both looked really yummy.
Overall good people and hardworking people that work here. -

Enjoyable place for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. The specialties are chicken and waffles and waffle bacon and magnificent freshly squeezed orange juice. Interesting menu with many options for breakfasts, omelets, sandwiches, and salads. About a third of the menu is devoted to vegetarian items.
While the food is excellent, the restaurant isn't very comfortable. Seating is cramped and service is somewhat shaky and slow. Servers are friendly but they tend to be way more friendly to their regulars and somewhat forgetful about the rest of us. The staff treated the regulars so well that I felt like an intruder to the place. If Eats wants me to become a regular, they need to treat me well in a timely fashion, also. The service aspect of Eats is the one thing keeping it from achieving the five star rating. While there are more items on the menu that I would like to try, I don't feel obliged to put up with the ambience or the attitude. -

Deeeeelicious! My friend and I had a really nice lunch today. We realized we arrived right about the time they were closing but our server (super sweet tall girl) said it was perfectly fine and didn't do that whole guilt trip thing to us. Yay! The pregnant girl wouldn't be starving any longer! I got the fried chicken sandwich and it was amazing. I want another one already. This neighborhood is so much better than my old one!

Enjoyed a bowl of delicious granola, yogurt, and fruit yesterday morning with a hot cup of coiffee outside in the sunshine. (That reminds me...not to be a princess but, while it is nice to sit outside in the warm sun, it does start to be a pain in the ass when you can't look at the person you are eating with because it's so bright. Ah well...white people problems.) It was also fairly easy to get a table after we realized we needed to write our names on the board outside, haha!
I really enjoyed my breakfast. I've never had granola and yogurt at a place that adds sliced dates and shredded coconut, oh my! So good. It was pricey (~$7) but damn good.
We will be back (to steal coffee mugs). I mean, to try the bacon waffles. -
