I'm rather surprised  by the recent bad reviews for this place.  My husband and I have gone to Eats for brunch and had good food, but I want to write about the amazing meal we had tonight.

First, the Matzo Ball Soup.  I was really impressed with the broth.  It's obviously made from scratch and has been simmering on the stove all day.  It had that deep chickeny flavor that few restaurants manage to achieve in their broths.  Their mazto balls were tender and perfect  as well.  My only complaint is that the soup was under-seasoned, but it's not a big deal.

My husband and I shared the Reuben sandwich.  Holy crap.  It was probably the best Reuben I've had, and I've eaten my share.  The corned beef is tender and not dry like the Reubens you get at other venues in Seattle.  The Russian dressing was perfect, as was the sauerkraut.  We will be going back often for this sandwich and soup combo!!

We were too full to try a real dessert, so we got two cookies, which were both tasty.  The chocolate chip cookie had a great chewy-to-crunchy ratio and the chocolate decadence cookie was moist, chewy, and had an amazingly rich chocolate flavor.

Our service was quite good.  Evan, the owner, chatted with us about his food and was the perfect host.  The prices were comparable to other restaurants in the area -- and a deal given the quality and personal service.

We will *definitely* be back!

I really, really want to love this place because of it's proximity to my house and the number of healthy/veggie options... but it always lets me down. Awhile ago we decided to give it one more shot, and sadly, it was no different. We've lived here about 2 and a half years. We came here about 4 or 5 times in the first year and twice in the past year and a half. We will never come back with so many other great choices in West Seattle.

This past time we went the service was slow, per usual -- there were only two other couples in the whole place and two servers, but we still waited what felt like a long time for our drinks and soup and salads... The peeps at the table next to us already got their food (which they ordered after we did) by the time I got my soup. The soup itself was a non-dairy tomato. It looked good, but it tasted like marinara sauce with very little flavor. The homemade croutons were a nice touch, but not enough to justify getting the soup itself.

We've been for breakfast and had to wait a long time - even when they are not busy.

Positives? Some of the food is really tasty - but even then I find it is hit and miss and have had some major let downs. The homemade ice cream sandwiches featured in Seattle Magazine awhile back? Give it a SKIP because it's nothing special and was so rock hard we could barely eat it.

If you're in a hurry, this is not your place.  I've been twice, since it's close to my house and I really wanted to have a nearby breakfast spot, but this will not be it. By the time we got seated both times we could have driven to Chandlers on Lake Union and paid the same, eaten better and sooner. I really don't think the waiter coming by two times and saying "it will be any minute" helps either.  Upon being seated our second visit, we should have just left when the people next to us told the waiter they "were just leaving" as he told them their "food was on its way".  They stayed, but didn't look too happy.

The food was fine, but I could have just made the same things at home.

They just seem understaffed and slow. If you do go, don't come hungry.

Maybe you just shouldn't go on a Saturday afternoon. That's when I went expecting something special because all the good press they've gotten. I was the only one there so maybe their guard was down. Because I'd come in to order to-go and said I'd be back to pick up my food in 15 minutes after finishing some shopping, it was annoying to discover upon my return that the cook just realized he hadn't started making my burger so I had to wait anyway. Confusing since I was still the only one there.

Ok, the food... I ordered a Market Burger and a side spinach salad with apples and Stilton to go. I was shocked at the $17 but was starving and had reached my shopping saturation point  and just wanted to go home. The burger was pretty good, good meat but not seasoned much. The salad was nice, but nothing I couldn't have made myself. I was wishing I'd gone to Jaks at happy hour and gotten a better burger for $5 (with a cocktail, which I hurriedly made for myself at home to get that loving feeling that I need to forget I just paid $17 for a burger and a salad).

Hopefully I just caught them on a bad day, which was what I was having too.

Love this place!  I can walk to it from my house.  I love the waiters who are in my opinion exceptionally friendly and very handsome if i might say.  I never wait too long for my food and the menu is covered from vegetarian to an awesome cheese burger.  I'm a big soup lover and would recommend the Matzo ball  soup.  What a lot of people don't get about this place is that  the food seems to be prepared with a more health conscious clientele in mind.  The food is not butter down or over salted....and I like that.   I also recommend grabbing a  cupcake to go....perfect size and easy to eat....won't do over kill to your day.

Cute little corner cafe near bed bath and beyond and target. My bf wanted to try lunch here since he loved their breakfast. Ordered the reuben which was very good, as well as a side of mushroom soup. I took away 2 stars for the service that was slow, maybe because there was only one waitress but it wasn't that busy and she was just standing around at times instead of refilling our water. It's still a cool place to go to if you're in the area. Don't recommend driving from miles and miles away but it's nice if you're craving just a soup and sandwich. They have burgers too but haven't tried it yet so not sure how good they are~

First tip - *For Breakfast*  If in West Seattle, just go to Alki Cafe. If willing to travel a smidge to South Seattle, go to Geraldines.

If you are set to come here, at least the service is good! The food is pretty mediocre and the "fresh squeezed OJ" tasted like it was made from a powder. Not to mention... they were out of champagne and we were not able to celebrate the morning with mimosas. Tsk tsk.

I will admit this review is based on one experience, but I am not really thinking I will be returning.

Especially considering how many people were in the place(3 other tables),  it should NOT take an hour to cook a burger and make a sandwich. That is a ridiculous amount of time to have customers wait, especially when all you have to work with is ice water. I had a Market burger and it was fine. The meat was pretty undercooked but I was too hungry to let it slip away for another hour. My boyfriend was being nice for not saying anything about how he was given a BLT instead of a cranberry melt. He was just as insanely hungry as I was.

I won't be back for another wait of a lifetime that is definate.

I came here solely for the pastrami sandwich, since it received rave reviews in a couple of papers.  I couldn't have been more disappointed.  I have been looking for a decent pastrami sandwich since I moved here from the east coast 9 years ago.  The closest I had come was Goldberg's Deli in Factoria, but their quality has decreased lately.

So I had high expectations, and they were dashed.  It was hands down the worst pastrami sandwich I've ever eaten (OK, I only could eat half).  The meat was dry, with very little fat.  The pastrami was bright red.  In fact, it looked a lot like the packaged pastrami you can buy in the grocery store.  I was hungry and in a hurry, or I would have sent it back for something else.

Suddenly, Goldberg's is looking a lot better to me...  The rest of the menu looked interesting, but I feel so burned, I doubt I will return to try anything else.

Well, it was reaching 90 degrees today and I thought what better way to cool down but with Eats much talked about Ice Cream Sandwich. It was 3:30 on a Tuesday afternoon so fortunately I had the place to myself. Eats is in a nondescript (somewhat depressing) strip mall and the interior of the restaurant looked a little tattered -- but the ice cream sandwich was delivered to the table as promised... a very large chocolate chip cookie with a rich ice cream filling.

The menu states that it is so large you may be tempted to share it with another person but that once you bite into you'll end up eating the whole thing. I fortunately had someone to share it with - not because I didn't like it - but because it was so large. As mentioned I had the chocolate ice cream but would recommend the vanilla instead as it might complement the chocolate chip cookie a little better.

Also, at $6.50 I would prefer that they had an option for a smaller portion at $3.00 as a little goes a long way. Chocolate, caramel or espresso caramel sauce for dipping is an additional $ .50

Overall, I'm glad I tried the ice cream sandwich - but I think one time in this instance will do just fine.

Best Brunch Ever.
I love the biscuits and gravy. It reminds me of back home (south east)  and the they do have damn good baked goods.

I do also enjoy watching that one cute cook with the dark hair. (The one who looks kind of like a gypsy.)
Yay!

I may have just hit them on an "on" day, but we had a fabulous experience here: quick, attentive service and very good food.
I ordered a hot breakfast sammy with a fried egg, bacon, spinach, tomato and chevre with dijon on whole grain. It was fabulous and came with a great slaw. My friend couldn't stop raving about her brioche french toast.
Their decor and location definitely leave something to be desired, but I'm happy to have real food in the bog-box mess that we call Westwood.

We went for Brunch after trying to find somewhere suitable for brunch in West Seattle.  This place was close to someone we were trying to drag out for lunch, so we went there.

What a freakin' waste of time.  The place was incredibly hard to find, and we spent around 15 minutes looking for the place.  After that, we waited another 45 minutes to get a table.  Finally, when we got the table, it took a while for food to come out; not to mention the waiters and waitresses took our orders in a very unusual way that left some of the people at the table feeling a little dejected.  The service itself was pretty bad.  I've heard it described as, "U-district baristas" and it fits pretty well.  The atmosphere is pretty average, made worse by it being located in close proximity to a gym and bed store.

The only redeeming quality was the food was not atrocious, although I guess anything tastes better when you've had to wait at least an hour and a half for it.  I would not recommend this place.

This is a wonderful place, has an excellent selection of sandwiches and soda fountain style food.  I had the Reuben!!!  It was wonderful, my girlfriend has the Turkey Melt.  Both were enjoyable.  I must admit we really went there for the Ice-cream Cookie Sandwich dessert, which was well deserving of the review in the Seattle Metropolitan magazine.  This is very worth the visit!

Eating breakfast/brunch is one of my favorite things in life.  I've been to most of the local breakfast spots, and when Seattle Metropolitan came out with their January "Best Breakfasts" issue, I wanted to try some I had never been to.

We went to EATS on a Saturday, and I have to say - Westwood Village, in a stripmall setting, is NOT my ideal place to go for brunch.  But since I've been there once, we went THREE weekends in a row!!  It is hands down the BEST breakfast I have EVER had... which is saying a lot.

My favorite thing to get is the biscuits with turkey gravy.  Unbelievable.  The roasted red potatoes have a great mix of spices.  I'm not really a pastry/muffin person, but the brown sugar coffee cake is pretty much to die for... I dream about it.  GO THERE!  It is amazing!

The longest we've ever had to wait for a table is 5-10 minutes.  Service is pretty good, restaurant is cute... and don't hate it because of it's location like I almost did!  I promise you'll love it.  I cannot wait to go back.

The only eat-in experience I've had at Eat's wasn't great... Our waitress acted like a stuck-up little girl who believed she was too good to be working there, spoke to us very little and did only the bare bones of what she HAD to do to keep her job.

Regardless, the food was amazing and always is. I now frequently order to-go and pop in just to pick up my food. The guys that take payment for to-go orders are always really sweet, have never had problems with them.

I usually get their double-decker grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and it is AWESOME. It cracks me up every time that even in my to-go order they even wrap up a pickle spear in foil and put it in the bag, but that's become my favorite part! These guys pay so much attention to detail and that's what makes them so successful!

I've had breakfast here a couple times now after a workout at the neighboring 24hr Fitness and been totally pleased each time.  Good solid cooking, paying attention to quality and presentation without overdoing it -- nicely seasoned and perfectly prepared.

The service has always been prompt and pleasant. My partner has strange dietary constraints and they've always worked with her to find alternatives within their menu to meet her needs.

The location is another creepy plastic suburban shopping mall, but they've done a nice job setting a more pleasant atmosphere within.

We've eaten here a couple times now, since it's the closest breakfast/brunch place near our house.  It's good place for a late Sunday breakfast.  and by late Sunday I mean afternoon. :)

The food is pretty good, decent breakfast fare, and sure hits the spot on when you've got a hankering for some breakfast.

The place is kind of cozy, and by cozy I mean small, but it's a nice open well lit place, and so it's not so bad.

Overall I'd give it a A-OK rating.

I have given this place a couple of tries.
The breakfast fare is better.

I ordered some dinner once.
A pot pie and a risotto dish.
Now, this part is kinda my bad, as I did not read the full description of said pot pie. We got the orders to go. The "pot pie" was a quart of soup with a pastry crust on the side. When I saw this, I sent wifey back in to get the scoop. They were rude to her, telling her that that is how it is served (as it was described, I know, but I expected Marie Callendar), and then the little order taking bitch said something real smart like, "well, you weren't expecting a real pot pie, were you? That would take forever."
Needless to say, I was about to go in and cause a scene. If you belittle my wife, I am gonna get ugly.

Add to that the fact that the risotto was very un-risotto like and a really small portion, and you get one star.

One thing about us displaced Jews is that we love to kvetch about not being able to get any good Jewish soul food anywhere. There are a few places in town to do this here but not many. (Don't get me started about Goldberg's in Bellevue. Oy Vey).

My benchmarks for food to kvel over are Ruben Sandwiches and Matzo Ball soup. Both of these are outstanding. The Ruben has just the right amount of grease and perfectly toasted rye bread. The matzo balls are big, fluffy and not salty. These are so good that we've served them for passover!

I say mazeltov!

Breakfast: Their preparation can be a bit uneven at times (home fries were under- and over-done on alternating weekends), but it's still worth going for the thick-cut bacon and the housemade sausage. No nitrates means no headaches for me, which is always a win. Their baked goods are darn tasty, too.

Lunch: Never tried it, always too tempted by the breakfast/brunch menu.

Dinner: Skip it. Not very good. How do you manage to make matzo ball soup grainy???

I've eaten at Eats once and had take out a number of times, and the food is generally good.

After an unfortunate incident with insanely mediocre chicken soup ( I know it was homemade, but it can't be that hard to put some salt or pepper in there folks) all I eat there at this point is the grilled cheese sandwich with tomatoes. I had never thought of putting mustard on my grilled cheese before, but it makes the sandwich unbelievably delicious. It is a bit spendy, but it's in West Seattle and it's decent food, what can you expect? It would be nice if the sandwiches came with something instead of a pickle. When we order this for lunch at work, I end up with 5 of my co-worker's pickles when I really wish I had a bag of chips.

Eats has recently started serving breakfast which makes it one of the few breakfast spots in West Seattle, especially as far south as Westwood Village.

I love the banana and walnut covered waffle, it's sweet but not so much as to be decadent. The iced tea is great, they make their own blend of leaves. They cook bacon and eggs properly, no soggy bacon or runny eggs unless that's what you ask for. The prices aren't a bargain but I wouldn't call it expensive. Definitely a restaurant that I like being in the neighborhood.

11/3/07 Update

We had lunch there on Saturday, both my husband and I had the turkey melt, it was hands down the best sandwhich I have had in a long time.  In fact, better than those I make at home.  We were still talking about them that evening.  Also had a decadent chocolate cookie that was to die for.

Totally worth it.

I have had several good experiences here.  The turkey sandwhich and the soup was very good.  Doesn't seem like they have the whole service thing down yet, but each time I go it's a little better.

I've also had a curry chicken salad there that was very good, ooh ooh and a very good grilled cheese as well.

We were excited to have breakfast at Eats after reading amazing reviews elsewhere. Upon arriving, we waited around 15 minutes for a table, not a problem in the least. There were lots of what appeared to be regulars. Once we sat, we perused the menu. I was offered coffee that I later found to be a bit bitter, perhaps stale. We ordered the waffles and the huevos rancheros. For the price, I wouldn't recommend the waffles in the slightest. For a thin, plate sized waffle with a little fruit on top to end up costing over $8 is absolutely ridiculous. Not a value at all, to top it off the waffle wasn't crunchy but rather soggy and lifeless. The ranch-style eggs were topped with a nice guacamole, the flavors blended together but lacked sufficient flavor. I added both salt and tabasco to make my meal flavorful. The waitstaff was courteous, although it appeared slightly overworked.

Pros: Nice location, lots to to if you have to wait; helpful and friendly waitstaff
Cons: Quite pricey for what you get, I'd rather spend $25 at a place where I get more food;Portion sizes are small and don't come with hashbrowns, toast etc.; some food is under seasoned, not bad if you like to add your own salt and hot sauce.

I had read great reviews of the breakfast at Eats Market Cafe, but I have to say that I was disappointed.  I ordered the "sliders"  with the house made sausage and everything was so bland.  The biscuits were dense and the flavor was just flat.  Everything required generous shakings of salt and pepper (both of which were too large for the shakers provided).  My dining partner ordered three eggs over medium (we've come to discover that this is a crap shoot anywhere) and received one egg very hard, a second egg mostly hard and the third egg easy and very runny.  My guess is that they were cooked in a pan/griddle that was just too hot.

Our service was very slow, too.  I'm not sure how new they are and what kinks they have to work out there. She was very nice, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on that one.  But no matter of great service could make up for the lack of flavor in the food.

I've eaten here about 25 times. That should tell you something about my overall enthusiasm. Something keeps me coming back... that in spite of things to complain about just about every time I go.

About 12 of those times, the service has been very slow. Not so much the attention from the staff (I've gotten pretty friendly with them and they are attentive) but more the wait for the food. Waiting 45-60min for Brunch is simply not OK, ever. This happens even when the place is not busy. 4 times, the owner came out to apologize and offer a conciliatory cupcake. The other 8, it was just grumpy sadness between me and my girlfriend.

The food is hit or miss. Hits include the Matzoh ball soup, Pastrami, and Turkey sandwiches. Misses include most breakfast items including the sliders (bland) and eggs (never cooked quite right).  I agree the food has a nice homemade quality, but it's certainly not complex or well-spiced.

So why do I keep going...?

Well, the staff is super nice, sure, but it's the cupcakes.
** These are the best cupcakes in town, period **

Go there, get a red velvet cupcake and just be amazed at how a real, not-overly-sweet cupcake tastes. So much better than Cupcake Royale and it's ilk.

If you like mediocre food that you could probably make better yourself at home but like to pay extra for it - this is the place for you. The servers are a little weird, the owners even stranger and the wait is not worth it. If you need a quick breakfast in the Westwood Village area, go to McDonalds. You'll get better service and equally good food.

Charming little neighborhood place in Westwood Village. Looks like they might be concentrating on a Wine List That Matters. Could be interesting.

The pastrami or tuna melt sandwiches are satisfying.

Friendly staff, outside seating just right for peeking at the healthy people entering or leaving 24 Hour Fitness!

We went here on a Sunday at about 11 am and waited over 30 minutes for a table for two...despite the fact that there was a table for two open the entire time we waited. We weren't greeted, either.
My husband and I entertained ourselves by watching the host/busser, who was very likely new to the restaurant biz. During our stay, he kept dropping things and while he cleaned tables, he opened and closed his mouth like a guppy. Perhaps he was singing?
The food was incredibly delicious. I ordered the small portion of biscuits and turkey gravy - one small biscuit with gravy for $6.75. My husband ordered the farmhouse breakfast - bacon, three eggs, potatoes and toast for $9.75.  Perhaps not the best valued breakfast in Seattle, but definitely one of the tastiest. Despite our getting off on the wrong foot, Eats Market, I can't wait to come back!

I've been to Eats Market Cafe a handful of times for breakfast and lunch.  While there aren't a huge number of selections - the options that are available are average.

I've enjoyed the curry chicken wrap at lunchtime and the classy version of the sausage egg mcmuffin at breakfast.

The location is winner and the staff are always pretty friendly.  The restaurant has always been clean and parking ample.

My FAVORITE thing about this place is that you can add avacado to anything without being charged more.... ITS AWESOME. I actually only get the turkey melt. I've been going here for a few and experiemented a bit....I wouldn't mess with the tuna melt, unless you don't actually like flavor, then- go for it!
But really the staff is sweet. If you come and they try to give you one of those shitty tiny tables when you only have two people ask for a booth, and ask with your EYES (you know what I mean) F the groups of four that might come, no one should have to sit at those two tops, I've sat there as a party of one with my one sandwich and a weekly and had major issues.
Also good half salads. So cheap, and if you add chicken its perfect for a quick, healthy, yummy lunch. But really, get the turkey melt with avacado.

I honestly cannot for the life of me understand the good reviews.

We went once, hated it.  Read the reviews here, thought we would try it again, hated it even more.

Here is a tip for the eats, Risotto is Risotto. Risotto is not something else.  You cannot call something that is not Risotto, Risotto.

I found the staff rude and lacking a basic understanding of food.  I found the food bland and poorly cooked (pasta overcooked).

And to top it off, I was surprised at the prices.  Not to say they are high, but way too high for what they serve.  if they were inside a mall next to a taco bell and they charged as much as a big mac, I would not go back . But at least then I would not feel ripped off.

This is one of those places I keep walking by and thinking to myself "I've got to try that place".

And then I did.

The breakfast is meh - on my first visit I tried the sliders - eggs and bacon on biscuits.  The biscuits were dry and flat, almost on the crunchy side.  My son fared better with his brioche french toast - served with apple butter and syrup.  We had a small discussion about sharing and ended up splitting everything.  Hey - he was happy with the eggs and I still got a bite of french toast.

The first visit wasn't stellar to be sure (except for that french toast - AWESOME!)

Since I've been back I've tried both the hot turkey and cranberry and the pastrami sandwiches.  Both are served with the best cole slaw I have ever tried (probably part of what keeps me coming back)  and stand alone as entrees.  The pastrami was great although a little "juicy" for my tastes.

Sometimes the staff seem too busy to seat you or notice that you're there but that has only happened twice and it was corrected quickly.

Overall - it's been great so far and I've learned that, while the bacon rocks for breakfast I'd just as soon stick to the lunch or dinner menu.

Eats is a rare find this side of town.  Way out in Westwood, this is the place to go when I'm craving something really good and I don't feel like leaving West Seattle.

Eats features a seasonal menu that highlights simple but tasty food.  There aren't tons of choices, but the ones they've got are great.  Some of my favorites have included the best chicken pot pie I've ever tasted, fabulous scalloped potatoes, a hearty Bolognese and delicate squash ravioli.  The burger is reputed to be the best in Seattle.

The service we've received has been exceptional without fail.  Our favorite waiter (you know who you are) always makes a perfect wine suggestion when queried.

The deserts range from some lovely pastries/cakes/pies to the unpretentious but oh-so-delicious ice cream sandwich.

Some downs - it's not air conditioned and the summer sun can be brutal in the afternoon and evening.  And yes, it is a bit spendy.

Overall though I really love this place.  I'm sure we'll be eating here for years to come.

So I live in West Seattle and I've been to Westwood plently of times and have never come accross this little cafe. Your'e not missing much! As I saw the line pile up at the door on sunday I knew I wasn't making a mistake, the food HAD to be good. As I then waited a good thirty minutes to get a table. It was a cute little place, but it didn't make up for the lack of service I received. After getting seated I waited another five minutes for anyone to greet me. At this point I was working up a pretty good appetite and was ready to order. We both ordered our food and then waited another five minutes to get our two coffees. Upon waiting we both were watching the service staff wondering what the hold up might be since it's like a 14 table or so restaurant. We were complately appauled by watching the servers bring dirty plates and bus tubs into the kitchen and they would storm back out immediatly after and was obvious they DIDN"T WASH THEIR HANDS! So finally... after all this disapointment, the food finally came out about thirty minutes later, I had a mushy and soagy "world famous Reuben" and my friend had a crispy/burnt farmhouse breakfast. We pretty much picked at the food, paid our tab and ended up going to Starbucks around the corner. All in all the experience was not what I was expecting. I love little family owned cafes but I would have much rather gone to Denny's or better yet Luna Park Cafe'

I've had only lunch here a few times, never breakfast or dinner, and I've always been impressed with the quality of the food and the service.

On my latest visit I had the turkey sandwich with cranberry cream cheese and pecans, and though it was grilled a tad on the greasy side (thus 4 stars instead of 5), the resulting combination was delicious. My expectations for a turkey sandwich are low, but they carve their own nicely seasoned meat - in this particular case choosing darker cuts of the bird - rather than going the bland Subway/Quizno route of prepackaged lunch meat. This makes the turkey the most flavorful ingredient rather than just salty protein filler. I'd trust these folks cater my Thanksgiving based on the taste of this sandwich alone.

I keep meaning to get there for dinner because I hear there's a killer chicken pot pie that's not on the lunch menu. If anyone has tried that, please let me know!

Flat out honestly, I was irrevocably disappointed.  The first no no was the hostess.  My boyfriend and I walked into the joint a little discombobulated and looking around to decide where we wanted to sit.  The hostess said something along the lines of....if you decide where you want to sit I will seat you!  After being seated, we had some horrible coffee that seemed to get worse with additives.  I ordered the biscuits and gravy (with turkey gravy) and not only was it tasteless, bland and boring but I had to pay 3.75$ just to add some chopped up hot sausage!!  On top of that, the sausage was not hot nor spicy, I hardly noticed it was there.  We were seated at one of those mentioned "small" tables and were bumped by many customers on the way to and from their seats.  The free additional avocado gives it the extra star...otherwise it would only have one.

Please Do Not bother....the strangest breakfast I have ever had. I ordered their "Legendary" corned beef hash. Very spicy and tasted like it was seasoned with curry? My boyfriend ordered basic eggs and sausage...How on earth do you make homemade sausage and remove all sausage flavor?  Eggs were cooked good. I will give them that. This was the second Very disappointing meal here. I have learned my lesson.
