Walked right in about 10:15 for brunch on Sunday morning and got seated right away.
Ordered the Guava Mimosa to drink, it was good, sweeter than a regular Mimosa, but I probably wouldn't have ordered another one though. For food, my mom and I got the Corn Flake French Toast and and omelet with peppers, cheese, and sausage.
Corn Flake French Toast-really light, really great. Came with strawberries and orange marmalade, both of which were fresh tasting. I've been wanting corn flake french toast since I had it in Nantucket when I was 12, and nearly 10 years later I found it, and even better than the first time!
The omelet was supurb! The peppers were red, my favorite, and the mozzarella was fresh, and the sausage was cooked perfectly. Overall it was probably the best omelet i've had. It was a great size too, not too big, not too small, just right.
Service was spot on. We got the food in a timely manner, it was warm, and our server was attentive and helpful.
This place is an old stand-by for me. I always take guests here & they (we, really) always love it. I've been here SO many times.
Brunch is great, but I'm usually here for dinner. Some of my favorite menu items are the meatloaf (with white cheddar fondue) with tempura onion rings & buttermilk mashed potatoes, and the wok-flashed tequila shrimp with poblano-corn flauta (SO good) & sweet potato mash.
Also delicious is the Asian chicken salad, which all my co-workers refer to (lovingly) as the "million dollar salad" (it's pricey, but also tastes like a million bucks... I guess), but my absolute favorite salad is the adobe salad (grilled chicken, smoked bacon, jack cheese, blue tortillas, black beans, buttermilk dressing & honey chipotle dressing). I get it SO many times! I loves it. I'd eat it every day if I could. I'd be a regular fat-ass, of course, but I'd be very happy.
It can get a bit loud, too, but it doesn't ever really feel cramped, even when the place is full.
Their drinks are good (I like the watermelon martini & the blueberry lemonade), but once you get one of them, that jacks the bill up to like, $40 a person for dinner (& tip, etc.).
Definitely not an every day place, but once in a while, I love to treat myself (or have visiting parents treat me).
Oh yeah... bonus points for their weird prawn-flavored crisp thingies that they put out on the table in place of the typical bread. The first time I had them I thought they were really weird, but now I look forward to them. They're tasty.
(Okay, if I have to single out a brunch dish too, I love the pulled pork tostada.)
This was a wholly mediocre place. Fine to eat at once, but probably never again, if it were up to me. I had a fine caesar salad with chicken, and the wine-by-the-glass selection was paltry and uninteresting. Sorry to be a downer about it, but the waiter was careless, way too friendly and casual, and sort of a nuisance. (Like telling us his favorite menu items without our asking, which I think is kind of stupid and condescending.)
Maybe I have bad memories of the place because I went here with out-of-towners (out-of-country-ers, to be precise) to show them something casual but good - a friend had recommended it - and it was just "meh, I've experienced better" as the star rating system says... The only positive things about the place were that it wasn't too busy and not super loud.
Eatery has been one of my favorite comfort-food standbys since I moved to the city years ago. Nestled in the heart of Hell's Kitchen, it offers somewhat of a downtown vibe without having to trek all the way downtown. But since it's one of the more popular restaurants in the area, a little wait for dinner or brunch should be expected. I've gotten the mac n' cheese before and it's pretty delish. For brunch yesterday, I got the Southern Fried Chicken salad, which came with BBQ sauce and buttermilk dressing together - simply awesome! The prices are very reasonable. I got the salad and two mimosas and spent a little over $30 (inc. tip). The service was pleasant as well. Definitely check this place out.
One of my favorite brunch spots--the food here is always fresh and tasty, the general vibe is welcoming and laidback, and the waitstaff is attentive and fast. I've been here a few times now for brunch and really enjoyed the stuffed french toast, egg whites atop sweet potatoes with guacamole (the guac alone made this dish my favorite), and the irish oatmeal (hearty, with plenty of toppings).
The only downside is that the wait can get a bit hairy, especially on Sundays around prime brunch time. My advice would be to come here during the week (when it's much less crowded), or to try to get here before the morning rush (by 10-10:30am).
Came here for dinner recently with some friends. It was a nice, classy spot with good food. Their ravioli is really good and they have a decent wine selection. Also, the staff is nice and accommodating.
I would recommend this place for a casual date, or even come with a group of friends.
So I'm indulging in a mac and Jack while writing my review. Interesting twist to mac n cheese. Frizzled onion straws on top for perfection
Thank you eatery for luring me away from krafts!
I was stuck trying to figure out what I wanted for dinner when I received a message from a friend" "hey wifey, what are you up to, wanna come over we can do dinner?"
He lives right next to eatery, and we were in the mood for their laid back atmosphere. The waiter couldn't have been more adorable, and charismatic. He took our drink orders almost immediately and made sure we had heard the special before they even got to the table. Unfortunately for them, neither of us likes brussel sprouts so it was a waste of his time to detail the rest of the dish.
We knew the portions were going to be massive, so we chose 2 dishes we wanted and decided to share them. There was a beef medallion dish that sat on a bed of goat cheese mashed potatoes. It was topped with a few large beer battered onion rings, and drizzled with a fig balsamic reduction. Yes please. We also ordered an Asian peanut salad with chicken on it. Both were delicious (although the meat could have been a bit more medium than rare). We couldn't even finish either dishes we were so full.
The man n cheese that was ordered at the table beside me looked amazing, and large. They sure don't skimp on the portions at all here. My only negative comment about the place was about the cocktail that I ordered. It was extremely weak and much more bland than I had hoped it would be. Don't make a meal of the crackers they serve you while waiting, not only are they addictive (I think they're laced with crack), they'll fill you up before dinner.
I don't get it with the overpriced diners in New York City because my version of a diner back at home is a Denny's or an IHOP.
Laugh all you want.
I enjoy my $3.99 Grand Slam breakfast with eggs, sausages and pancakes, especially after some late night shenanigans.
So naturally I feel cheated when I pay $16 plus tax and tip for brunch without a drink included. I ordered Green Eggs and Ham- scrambled egg whites with pesto and ham on top of a crossaint (one that is not freshly baked on premises).
I did not like them, Sam I Am.
I do want them at home, where I can make it for less than $5. The lack of flavors was disappointing, but I happily became besties with Heinz Ketchup and Tabasco once again. My eggs were scrambled correctly with pesto and chunks of ham, but they were nothing special. My friends also said their dishes (Corn Grits, Omelette, Kobe Beef Sliders) were satisfactory.
Why is brunch so expensive around here? Jeez. It's only Hell's Kitchen. Everyone and their mom who owns a business in this neighborhood serve brunch. Save yourself the extra 30 minutes you have to wait for a table here and walk around to find cheaper and more delicious brunch options.
Saturday afternoon brunch.
Brunch with style baby!.
Go with the understanding that this place is popular and you may have to wait for a table.
I like the contemporary atmosphere. The service was pleasant and prompt. I was impressed with the presentation of the food on the plate. Every plate was a piece of artwork it seemed. I was with a group of eight and everyone was satisfied with their food. Come hungry, the portions were generous.
Tip: I think its smart to go in 2s or 4s so they can quickly seat you.
Tip: Don't feel you have to be one of the beautiful people to eat here, just make sure you comb your hair and leave the sweat pants at home. Enjoy your meal.
My personal experience - 2.5 stars
Rest of my group - 3.5 stars
Took a couple of friends from out of town to Sunday brunch per a favorable Yelp review from a friend (who is a brunch Queen). We probably waited the full 30 min expected or more, which would have been more enjoyable had it not been near-freezing raining outside.
I decided to satisfy a long-standing desire I'd had for pigs in a blanket and ordered the Chicks in a Blanket (since chicken sausage is AWESOME). Sadly, I was disappointed. The cinnamon-y-ness of the pancakes was surprisingly off-putting and the textures of the pancakes and the sausage were too tough (and not delicious enough), making for a mostly unenjoyable eating experience.
However, my friends seemed to enjoy their food (Triple Decker, Buckwheat Pancakes, and a poached egg/salmon something or other), so perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing. Otherwise, the service was a twinge better than alright, nothing special. It was crowded, as would be for Sunday brunch after a feature in the Yelp newsletter, but the ambiance & decor were nice.
I like their food here. It's your standard American fare. Nothing to really rave about. The drinks are actually pretty good. However, the service can be really spotty here. Sometimes you'll get a pretty great waiter and dinner and other times, the food will be undercooked and a pretty crappy waiter. I think they are more concerned about being trendy rather than serving their customers.
A nice place to have brunch, not a place I need to run back to next time I am in NYC. The service was great, food was good and it was worth the 30 minute wait. That is saying a lot, because patience is not my virtue, especially when I am hungry.
This place is pretty good. Mostly Americana food fancified with a dash of some ethic dishes (red curry chicken, bamboo rice, etc.). The food overall is good, but nothing out of this world... ... maybe the Mac and Jack.
Reason for visit:
Visting NYC for the weekened and needed a place to catch up with a group of six friends for a mid afternoon lunch.
Ambiance:
Contemporary, bright, lively and cramped. Eclectc mix of people.
Service:
We arrived around 2:30pm and the place was jam packed. However, the stars were in alignment because there was one booth available to sit all six of us immediately. Zero wait, and our waitress was helpful, nice, unobtrusive and efficient. Seriously, what more do you need from a casual spot?
Food:
The menu is varied and inventive enough to get you excited over their unique (but not wacky) twist on comfort brunch food. Four of us ordered the Bloody Hell Mary drink which is spicy and fabulous. I had the e-Benne with ham, but instead of an english muffin, the eggs are on top of a crispy, shredded potato cake. The eggs were perfectly poached and the potato added a really nice texture. I also tried a few bites of the crunchy corn-flake crusted french toast, also pretty good.
On average, the price for these dishes are about $15. Is it a bit much? Nah. Remember, we arrived mid afternoon, so I'm comparing this price to what we would have paid for lunch from similar restaurants in New York or any other major city. The prices are comparable. And yes, Eatery is pricier than Denny's (review from below), but if that's you're concept of good dining, then go back to the burbs!
Bottom line:
Delicious, interesting comfort food in a casual, lively atmosphere. Go with a good attitude and an understanding that this spot is popular, so there may be a wait. And the fact that four people from our group have been to Eatery before, their repeat business is a sign that people actually really do enjoy the food.
Finally a good American food place that is decent, and doesnt gurantee you a horrible experiance that I normally have with these type of places.
I ordered the Tempura Calamari and Eatery Sirloin Burger, which was truley amazing. The tempura was okay, didnt seem so amazing, but the burger was so juicy, I couldnt get enough of it.
Will be coming back to the eatery again!
We went to Eatery while on a weekend getaway, after reading the reviews on Yelp & noticing they had been ranked on Zagat's list. However, once we arrived the place wasx crowded, which in essence would lead you to believe the food was something to talk about. However, we were very dissatisfied once seated to not only wait 20 mins or more just to place our order, but also getting a waitress who lacked the ability to be personable at all costs (Abby). Once placing our drink and meal orders. The drinks were horrible, couldn't get a simple bloody mary right and the sangria was so...watered down it was like a light juice. Once our food arrived 30 mins. later we were not impressed at all. $80 or so later, we came to the conclusion this is a place that is all hype and nothing to back it up. A waste of time & patience. Go to the local restauranti instead- better service, drinks & food!!! NEVER AGAIN !!!
In an era when bars and restaurants emphasize fresh, original ingredients in their cocktails, Eatery does not only fail to follow the trend, but misrepresents what they do serve.
My girlfriends love to come here for some reason and the couple times we've sat at the small bar, I've had the chance to observe how cocktails are made.
Muddled watermelon on the menu actually means watermelon juice and gross sugary watermelon liquor..."fresh" lychee and pineapple juices mean they come out of a can...you get the idea. They make you think you're getting a fancy crafted cocktail for your 10-12 bucks but use cheap sugary ingredients. Too bad :(
A minimalist setting with fancied up comfort food is what this Hell's Kitchen restaurant has to offer.
The decor is sleek, modern, and has high contrast white walls with black tables and woodwork. A little bit trying to be cool, but not overly so.
The menu has a few winners on it which I always find myself going back to, but it does seem they shift items around seasonally which is nice and brings new options into the mix. The usual meal consists of splitting the hummus with toasted pine nuts and pomegranate sauce...never had the addition of anything sweet with my hummus before this, but it's actually a nice and interesting balance. I tend to go with a salad, or I've also had the Chicken Paillard entree, and it's been quite tasty, and well cooked. My husband absolutely LOVED the Brooklyn beer braised short ribs, but it hasn't been on the menu for some time now, so we frequent the place less often.
The drinks I've had are fantastic!! The mango mojito is hard to beat, and they also have a nice martini menu. A mega plus would be the Hitachino White Ale that's been added to the menu, even if Brooklyn has been removed...=(
The service is always friendly and attentive, despite how crowded the space gets. The attitude also helps to lighten the place up and not make it feel too pretentious, which is nice.
The pricing is a little high in comparison to the surrounding restaurants, but not overly so. All-in-all, you get what you pay for-classed up decor for the neighborhood, tasty drinks and decent food, plus service with a smile.
I'm not necessarily reviewing the restaurant as much as I'm reviewing what I ate at the restaurant. Something inexplicably delicious. Something that sounded too good to be true, but was as good if not even better than it sounded.
Stuffed. French. Toast.
Two big ass slices of french toast with a generous, gooey layer of chocolate, mashed bananas, cream cheese and sugar. All blended together into a big, melty, orgasm on a plate. OMG. It is served with a few berries, a small scoop of vanilla ice cream, and syrup (which I didn't use....it didn't need it!)
One of the most delicious things I've eaten. Ever.
Other things looked good, like the sandwiches and this big bowl of fruit, but once I took the first bite of my delicious stuffed better than sex breakfast, nothing else could compare.
So many months later...I returned for lunch and brunch several times but stopped by tonight for what I wanted...a light dinner. Their tuna tartare shines. This dish is a favorite of mine in many places, but here mixed some avocado and citrus fruit it is special. Most places go the wasabi route...but here it is sweet and delightful. Followed with humus. The humus here is plentiful and served with very very warm pita that appears to be whole wheat. No the thin type of pita either, but a nice thick bread to help devour the humus. The comfination of the two was perfect, filling, nutritious and tasty. I am happy.
Service was good, polite and attentive without attitude. Funny how from the outside this place looks like attitude central. When I left the restaurant I overheard someone on the street say the place looks too fancy for them. Nonsense. The food, atmosphere, service, attitude and prices are good. Tonight it was not crowded. Sometimes it is packed. But all in all....NICE!!!!

I've only ever eaten here for brunch, and I think 9 times out of 10 I've ordered the awesome pulled pork tostada. Service is good, and I wish i knew how to make the "appetizer" bread.
Outdoor seating is helpful for those that bring their four legged companions along...
Friends took us here on Friday. Group of 6, split a bunch of decent apps, decent to mediocre entrees, good drinks. Average restaurant, seemed good for groups.
Right as we were finishing our entrees, a little "friend" joined the party. A large, disgusting roach crawled out of the banquets right in the front of the lit and busy restaurant.
Now, I know that all restaurants struggle with pest control. However, roach(es) in a busy well-lit dining room crawling out of the furniture tell me that the problem at Eatery is probably LARGE.
The waiter couldn't understand why we didn't want to take him up on his offer of free dessert. The manager took off one drink for our "troubles" of killing/witnessing the filth and seemed to want us to be hush-hush about it. Everything in whisper tones. Left with a really dirty feeling.
Won't be back, don't recommend it. Our friends who took us were appropriately mortified. Doubt they'll be back either.
A for creativity, B for execution. The sweet potato cake with mango guacamole and scrambled egg whites was good, but forgettable enough that I needed two minutes to recall what I ate only 48 hours ago. The chicks in a blanket twist on pigs in a blanket was good, but substituting making the blanket out of pancake batter really doesn't do the dish justice. I say...don't touch pigs in a blanket if you're not going to make it better than the original recipe.
Had the Chicks in a Blanket. Very tasty. I need to come back for the stuffed french toast. And most certainly to try the mac and cheese.
Would have liked to have been asked for a second cup of coffee before I was finished with my meal.
In this area it can be hard to find really good places to dine and even though this is a bit of a trendy place you must try it!
The Mac & Cheese is incredible! The salads and such are divine too...Service is the best, super personable and spot on with menu choices and dessert suggestions! Drinks were excellent....This should be on your "regular's" list as it is very good, a bit busy but worth it!
I have to say this place is very so-so. The host, whom I'm guessing was the manager or something because of his more casual attire compared to the other staff, did not pay us even a single glance when we walked through the door. We had to walk up to him without receiving a greeting; he only stared at his booklet and looked around the tables.
Rest of the service was okay. You could tell the waiters were feeling rushed but they made the effort to be attentive. Anyway, they gave us some crispy chips with seeds that were oddly served in a dim sum basket (I guess you need some kind of hint to know it's some Chinese-inspired treat). Too hard and greasy, thought I was chewing on wood. Better without. For dinner, I ordered the Black Tea Crusted Salmon which was good, but not great for the price. The salmon was cooked well enough that it still moist and tender. The bf ordered the Grilled Pork Tenderloin which he thought was mediocre. I also had the blueberry lemonade which was nice.
To sum it all up, this place is just meh, nothing memorable. The food is nicely cooked, but just the flavoring wasn't that great. Just didn't think some of the side ingredients worked well together. For the price, I'm sure there are better places to visit.
Honestly, this was one of the best brunches I've had all summer. The stuffed french toast was divine, and the Japanese egg white omelette was so creative and also tasty. I liked the atmosphere - fun lights and high ceilings - and our waiter had the perfect balance between being attentive and letting us be. They bring free chocolate banana bread when you sit at the table - a nice welcome. Even though I don't live terribly close, I'd definitely come here again.
Pretty darn good brunch. I went on a Sunday around 1:30 and the wait was about 20 minutes. Not too shabby. Delicious mimosa & belinis. The brunch is good American food with a twist, but nothing you won't recognize. I'll defnitely be back.
Cute and Cheerful! From the chorus of conversations, to the whirling ceiling fans, all the way down to the dishes. A brunch must.
1. Food - Creative and intriguing menu, with classics and twists; all decently priced at $10+ per entree.
- Appetizer: Sweet corn grits with jalapeno-cheddar sauce. To indulge in a bit of old SAT analogy: jalapeno-cheddar sauce : sweet corn grits :: icing : cake. The texture and taste of the sweet corn and the grits was a study in contrasts, but the sauce totally made the dish.
- Entree 1: Since it was my first time, I decided to go for the basics: 3-egg omelette with sausage and tomatoes. Delightfully fluffy with a side of cooked potatoes and two slices of wholesome and grainy bread. Decent, but nowhere as interesting as...
- Entree 2: Green Eggs & Ham. I think we ordered it partially and secretly for its name. Served on an even fluffier croissant, the egg whites, honeyed ham, basil pesto, and goat cheese were gooey, if a tad bit unsalted.
2. Service - Decent and unobtrusive. Our water glasses were kept full for the most part, and the waiters and busboys were cool despite the busyness. I think the hostess looked like Denise Richards, but the bf disagreed.
3. Atmosphere - Cheerful din, really close quarters. I was also absurdly charmed by the ceiling fans, which were an unexpected touch in the restaurant. Fellow diners were predominantly female, but there were a few couples interspersed throughout.
Eatery on 9th Ave. is a Hell's Kitchen staple serving up comfort and diner food with a twist. Asian chicken salad with wonton crisps?
Always a favorite for the banker girls who frequent the place after work.
Other classics include the Mac'n'Cheese with crispy fried onions and the Eatery Burger- nice and tasty with grilled bun - but beware, want to top it with your favorite choice of cheese? - goat? mozzarella? bleu? Extra cost = $1.50!
The crowd is an eclectic mix of investment bankers grabbing a bite after work, to struggling off-Broadway actors meeting to dissect latest auditions, to the locals who remain loyal to one of the first hot restaurants on 9th Ave.
Save room for dessert- the E-Wich, a huge chocolate brownie and vanilla ice cream sandwich with chocolate and caramel sauce....yumm....
Come for Brunch as well - the E-Benne, Eatery's take on eggs benedict served on a vegetable potato cake is delicious. For those with a sweet took, French Toast with chocolate and bananas and a cream cheese filling - served with vanilla ice cream to boot, will have you swearing off sweets for the next week!
Eatery also sports a hip cocktail bar, serving up everything from mango mojitos to sangria. In the summer, score a seat on the sidewalk and watch the fashion show that is the diverse Hell's Kitchen crowd.
The Mac n' Jack is delicious. I've mostly gone to this place for brunch.. and I love their bellinis and stuffed french toast... but I went for dinner.. got the Mac n'Jack and the Sirloin burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was a little overcooked than the medium I had asked for.. but the mac and cheese was great especially with the nice crunchy onions on top. I really liked the sesame(i think shrimp flavor) chips they give you instead of bread. It close to the theater district which is nice.
In a recent nostalgia trance it occurred to me that every single woman that I've slept with this decade has earned an advanced degree. At least the ones I had the chance to ask, anyway. Chewing on this, I was struck by the fact that none of these unlucky ladies were doctors or lawyers. There were MA's, PhD's, MFA's (God Bless Parsons), MSW's, an MS, and even an MPP. But no J.D. or M.D.
Not necessarily by choice, mind you, just chance. The closest MD was too into Jesus to let me past second base, and the closest lawyer, well, as it turns out, this is also my 2003 Black Out story.
So very much the opposite of 9/11 was that day, with reckless abandon percolating throughout Hell's Kitchen's watering holes. The end may be nigh, but so what, let's light a candle and a smoke, and one more l'chaim before the beer gets too warm.
We had chosen the now-displaced-by-an-underoccupied-condo Collins Bar to welcome the Armageddon and, as usual, we had chosen wisely. Buried amidst the Jersey cougars seeking a place for the night was a pack of lawyers from a nearby Tower who happily were nursing the same agenda as our own.
By 3 am, after four packs of Marlboros and at least as many discounted ales, my new lawyer-friend invited me for a stroll. Only when we arrived at her building did she tell me that the Black Out had made hers a 31 story walk-up.
What a guy won't do.
Well after the smokes, a few break-out make-out sessions on the way up, and a reward of ice-cream soup when we reached the destination, yadda yadda yadda, I woke up six hours later, fully clothed on the couch, ice cream fingerprints on my shirt.
That morning her complaints of a hangover only made mine worse, and, while the shared brunch at the Eatery didn't kill us, it didn't inspire much more than a contrived exchange of e-mail addresses. Power was trickling back into the City, usurping the fantasies of the night before. And so she trudged back to her office when her Blackberry gave the "All Clear", and I returned to Collins Bar, only slightly disappointed to find that the Jersey women had all made it safely home.
PS: the eggs at Eatery are so-so and the bloody mary's overpriced.
So sad that they ran out of blueberry pancakes with banana and cinnamon syrup -- that sounded like a dream for brunch. The southern fried chicken salad was a heavy dish -- maybe I should have heeded common knowledge for Eatery's reputable Chicks in a Blanket. Next time! Plus one star for outdoor seating.
Eatery? There definitely wasn't much of that going on around there. I don't see what all the hype is about around this place...
Sure do they make a great mac and cheese? yeah but then again so do I and I add little pieces of bacon inside too and extra melted cheese... but that's me... You don't give a great review on a restaurant for one or two items that are amazing unless the restaurant only offers 3 items or so.
And OK, I don't want to fail to mention the stuffed french toast... bravo...
Other than that the scene was blah, a ton of out of work actresses so producers if you are out there maybe e you should start casting calls at this hot spot... And also, those crispy wafers they give you at the start of the meal.. barf... I felt like I was eating Styrofoam... wait a second was i?!?!?
I really like this place. I go for the seafood. Approx. $20/meal. My favorite dish is a seafood kebab (scallops, different types of fish) over black wild rice with a drizzle of marmalade sauce. Every dish is well presented and they select their ingredients carefully. Steak with mash potatoes is yummy too.
Interesting enough menu with a 'twist' on typical brunch menu items.
As long as there is little to no wait its definitely worth it. It can be a bit scene-y but I usually don't feel too uncomfortable even if I come in a little scruffy.
The food tends to feel heavy and the prices aren't amazing for the culinary execution, but its a great standby to have in the neighborhood.
It was a cute American place. The food was great but not like "OMG I NEED MORE." The guys waiters seemed gay, which I don't fully mind.. except for the fact that they paid more attention to the guy customers. HAHA. cute but.. no. but the service was okay.
I would go again but I would like to try other things first.
The Yelp two star rating of "Meh. I've experienced better" is perfect for this Hell's Kitchen brunch superstar. The interior is nice, but cramped. The service is friendly, but a little rushed. The food was good, but unspectacular. The menu attempts at innovation, but lacks the quality basics.
If you're in the neighborhood and have time to kill waiting for a table (the crowds are spectacular, but not in a good way) you could do worse than Eatery, but...
Thank you Eatery for sponsoring this week's edition of FAT GIRL SUNDAY!
I made my way over to Eatery this Sunday with my roommate and his date in tow (third wheel much?). In the past I had been to Eatery for dinner and thought it was a whole lot of okay. Who knew they had such a robust brunch menu? The ten minute wait was well worth the delicious brunch we had.
Unlike the weird shrimp chips Eatery serves at other meals, brunch called for delicious mini coffee cakes for everyone at the table. Hungover and starving, my roommate and I immediately devoured these delectable bites. Our appetites were now definitely whetted! In fact so much that our table of 3 fit gay men ordered 4 dishes. The stuffed french toast sounded so good that we just had to have one to split at our table! Everything on the menu sounded so good - and even more than that the options were more unique than found at most other brunch haunts.
I ordered the sweet potato pancake which came topped with scrambled egg whites and mango guacamole. The pancake was crispy and delicious and complemented the mildly spicy guac well. I think eggs and guacamole are really awesome in tandem so I thoroughly enjoyed the dish. Portion size was spot on and I would have not been gut-busting full if I had not partaken in the stuff french toast sitting in the center of our table....
This gorgeous creation was two big pieces of challah french toast with a cream cheese, banana and chocolate filling with maple syrup and ice cream on top. SERIOUSLY?!?!?! I think I gained five pounds from just looking at the damn thing. This was major. The first bite was pure heaven - cinnamon, chocolate, maple and banana goodness swirling around in my mouth. Ahhhhh!!! I just don't see how anyone could order this as entree and eat the whole thing without going into a diabetic coma. Don't get me wrong - it's phenomenal, but towards the end of killing it I had definitely had enough. The point of diminishing returns I suppose.
Everyone at my table really enjoyed their food and the service was swift. I've not had the most amazing dinner experiences here but I will definitely be back for brunch!
