Review from Laurie V.
So I was dropping the husband off at work and had a car full of kids and the dog so my lunch time options were limited. I asked husband what he was going to eat at work and the words "eat a pita" were spoken and I was like, "Get me my chicken!" SO he placed the order and ran in to get it for me. Left him and work and I drove down to the lake for a sort of picnic. I put the food on the passenger seat and shared with toddler and dog while twins slept.
It was delicious. I can honestly say that my chicken was perfect. Eyes roll back in the head good. The dog was disappointed that it was so good because it meant I was a bit stingy with my sharing. My son loves garlic bread and if he could talk I think he would have given it a good rating. Creamy broccoli soup was also tastyand didn't congeal like some soups do if you wait a bit to eat them. That one order of half grecian chicken with garlic bread, soup and fries was enough for 1 adult, 1 picky toddler and 1 not at all picky dog. There is even a nice size piece of bread and meat left for my son's lunch tomorrow. Can't go wrong with that.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Dear Eat a Pita,
Where should I begin...
Our relationship started so long ago. We met through a friend and things only blossomed from there. I have experimented with everything from rib tips to burgers and stir fry to soups. You never let me down. The soup has cured me when I was sick. The rib tips fixed my hankering for BBQ. The cheese fries can cure any hangover. Oh, your cheese cubes....squishy, cheesy fried goodness of love. The assorted veggie sampler can cure scurvy. They are fried to perfection and the dipping sauce goes perfectly! With the cute tattoo'd guy at the counter you keep me coming back!
--They also have an array of desserts but I have yet to try them.
With love,

Review from Jess I.
Man I miss this place. I used to work across the street and come here for most lunch or dinner breaks.
The prices are phenomenal, when comparing to prices elsewhere in the city and even the country.
They offer a lot of pita sandwiches as well as fried foods, but I came here for the falafel and soups. The falafel's spices were perfectly blended and the sauce that came with it (cucumber I believe) was a perfect compliment. This thing was almost always falling apart, which is a good thing! You get your money's worth for the big pitas here.
I think it was 3 dollars for the falafel pita. In fact I know it's like that because they don't accept cards on orders under 5 dollars. So I usually had to get a cup of fruit or a drink to get my total over 5 bucks! Try getting that in Baltimore!
The service is quick. The inside is your standard eat and run kind of place. There are a lot of shops around this area so it's great for a lot of the surrounding business employees to run over and grab something quickly.
Miss you. -

This place is pretty bomb! They have a huge selection of what seems like Americanized Mediterranean foods. From burgers, gyros, Italian beefs, to homemade meatloaf and fries.
The service is excellent and the people are friendly. I've made it a point to try something new every time I come here. -

While doing some serious drinking this past Friday night at a friend's apt in Lakeview, me and some peeps got quite hungry. We were wondering where we could get some quick delivery and one person stood up and yelled Eat-A Pita!!!!
Checked the menu out (they had a copy in their place) and she told me the California Pita was the way to go. The California Pita includes turkey, swiss cheese and avocado. Pretty f'in good. Delivery didn't take long at all...I would say we waited 25 mins, but we were sort of close. The show stealer was the Greek Feta Fries (well worth the $3). These were some of the best "cheese fries" I ever had. Definitely soaked up all of the Jim Beam I had downed. Unhealthy goodness!!!
Will def make a stop here to have those fries againListed in: View of the Lake

This is the worst restaurant for middle eastern food! I was here last week and I ordered spinach pie (spinakopita) that was good but my daughter ordered soup and a veggie pita. The soup was like water and not good at all. I asked for the Tzatziki sauce and omg! I was shocked! it tasted like Mayonnaise and horrible.
I would never go here again! I should have gone to Sindbad's their food is awesome!
This place has wanna be middle eastern food! lol. -

A strong 4-star rating on the falafel sandwich, coming in at around $4...
Falafel rating: Good. A little hard on the outside, but nothing a dousing of extra tahini couldn't take care of...and there was a lot to go 'round. Served piping hot...and, well...in-a-pita. High marks!
A very casual take-out/delivery/cafe type place with about a million diner-type sandwiches plastered all over the walls with photos in case you weren't getting the drift. My recommendation? Stick with the classics. Veer too far off the eaten path at these types of places, and you'll be stuck like Samantha L with a soggy open-face Thanksgiving Turkey sandwich. Tried and true: burgers, gyros, falafel, hot dogs, you get the gist. Stay the course!
Fountain Coke products in addition to many bottled varieties. Full array of free newspapers in the vestibule, and strangely...it looks as if they have constructed a weatherproof army/marine/barracks facade to shield from the cold/snow. If you walk/drive/visit, you'll see what I mean. Ain't no drafts up in heeeeeere. I enjoyed a nice 10-15 minute break from the world.
Falafel reigns supreme, this places does well in a pinch...and is very cheap.Listed in: Cheap Eats: Northside Chicago, Falafel in Chicago...

Review from Mary T.
You know the saying "when you assume, you make an ass out of you and me?" Well that's kind of how I felt assuming a place called Eat a Pita would churn out some decent Mediterranean food.
In search of a quick bite in the area, I popped into EaP on a whim. Overwhelmed by the large menu, I was glad that they had some targeted wipe boards including one with vegetarian favorites.
I'm not sure if I was unable or just unwilling to see the signs that ordering the falafel might be a mistake. First, per the menu it comes with a side of tzatziki. Sure it's a common topping on gyros, but on falafel not so much. Then when I asked if I could get some sriracha on the side I was told my spicy sauce choices were buffalo or cajun sauce.
My meal (sandwich and an order of cheese fries for good measure) came out quickly and was delivered to my table. I wasn't crazy about the falafel and fries being in the same paper basket because there was cheese sauce all over one side of my pita which made for messy eating. I opted for the buffalo sauce for $.50 extra, it only took a taste to know that it wouldn't be making it anywhere near my falafel. Instead I located a bottle of Trappey's Louisiana Hot Sauce. Marketing this sauce, straight from Jersey, as hot sauce should be illegal; I've tasted spicier ketchup.
I only ate about half of my falafel before abandoning it for the fries. The sandwich wasn't bad; served with hummus, lettuce and tomato, it was just average. The veggies were fresh, but I found the falafel bland and mushy. The cheese fries were average as well.
Service was friendly and the place was clean, but based on my meal I don't have any plans to return.Listed in: Hello neighbor..., The Ocho, PI-TAstic

After I walked in to Eat-A-Pita, I have no idea what possessed me to order food. I just did not like anything about this place. The menu is ridiculously huge, but I felt like everything that I could order would be covered in grease. I chose to go with the Cajun Chicken Pita, which was very plain and unappetizing. The fries were OK, but nothing special.
Sure, the food is cheap, but quality...ehhhh.

It's nearby. They offer a lot of specials, and their menu is pretty large in general. Not top notch but I'll grab a bite here if I'm in the mood. Burgers are okay, as well as pretty much whatever else you order. The interior is very mute and the lighting gives it a weird ambiance. But you really don't expect much.
A-OK. for sure.
Oh, but they deliver, which is nice. -

You know, I have been eating here for years and never reviewed. I originally would have given them a lower rating, because they didn't accept credit/debit cards for orders less than 10 bucks. WHICH we all know is against the law, or against the credit card company policy or something like that. Needless to say, they NOW accept credit/debit for all orders!
So I honestly have loved every single thing I have ordered. The list of things I love include: Chocolate milkshake, cheeseburger and fries (GREAT deal since fries are included in the price, its much more expensive at Chili Macs) I get the fries extra crispy, Assorted fried apps, the gyro (AWESOME gyro!), pork tenderloin kabobs with rice (SO tender,) tiramisu, cannoli and so on.
They were open during the blizzard! LOVED THAT! NO ONE on the road, but I walked in here and thanked them with all my heart for being open.
The staff is VERY friendly, and gives great recommendations as well.
Overall, this is the most economical fast food joint with a HUGE menu to cover all wants. I highly recommend (unless youre on a diet :-) -
Review from Jelena Z.
Not for the faint of heart (literally and figuratively speaking). The food is inexpensive, I'll give it that, but my sandwich had so much mayo I had to scrape off 80% of it.
Also, hope you have some time on your hands because last time I ordered delivery, I waited two hours (I was quoted one hour). GrubHub was nice enough to issue a credit of $10... normally wouldn't be a big deal, but I had plans and needed to get out the door! By the time I received my sandwich, it was limp and lifeless. No heartbeat!
I went out on a limb and tried their hummus for the first time too. Not sure if it's homemade or not, but it wasn't very flavorful.
This is fast food so you can't expect too much, I suppose. Then again, I can get a fresh, tasty torta, burger or burrito in my neighborhood for $6 if I skip the delivery and walk a few blocks!Listed in: No you DIDN'T!, Deliver Me, Please! Eat-A-Pita is nothing to rave about, but it's great for what it is: lots of choices, quick, and cheap.
My coworkers and I work in the neighborhood and we go there a lot because we can all get what we want (the choices are endless) and it doesn't break our bank. We can each get a sandwich, a wrap, a burger, whatever...with a side plus a fountain drink for an average of $6-8. You cannot beat that in this economy. The food is decent and the staff is very friendly. You get your food quick and you are full when you leave. I call it quantity verses quality, but it's awesome for lunch. -

I didn't know the restaurant had an indoor seating area because most of the storefront is covered by a weatherproof shelter.
I walked in to a dimly lit but clean atmosphere and ordered Fish and Chips (a "June Special"). Their drink machine ($0.95 for carbonated drinks, $1.30 + for juice/bottled water) and dessert machine were well presented, but the pictures of food were not. They could use some serious marketing - get ANYONE with a DSLR to take better pictures than the stained, saturated photos of greasy food on the wall.
My food was really good - the fish was breaded, not thickly battered the way Midwesterners like to do Fish and Chips. Baklava, however, was a disappointment. It was my first time trying baklava and I know there's supposed to be honey in it, but PROBABLY not the point where it's soaked and dripping when I hold it.
It made me question the legitimacy of their other desserts available - red velvet, brownies, cheesecake, cannoli etc. -

Sorely disappointed. I should have known the Southside is better known for their pitas, gyros, etc, not yuppie Northside-duh!
I can only speak for the pitas, the food came out fresh so I do give them that, but wow it was so small! I was expecting something bigger, like the ones I would get in Greektown,Bridgeport, etc. The place was clean and not your typical gritty gyros joint but I should have known it was too good to be true. Oh well, you learn. -

I've been here three times. Count as 3.5
Once, I got the buffalo chicken wrap special that was pretty delish. They have so many specials, every day for really great cheap prices. They also have a cake slice/dessert fridge which temps me every time I go in there! So far, I haven't broken down... I also got a chicken pita wrap that was pretty decent, and cheap more importantly.
But...I went in here the other day to get a falafel pita on special for $3.96 which included 3 falafels and tzasiki sauce on the side, mmm!
Well, it wasn't the best. The falafels were dry, and fell apartreally quickly, it was strange. They weren't greasy which was nice, but still, the consistency was odd. They were big balls, who thought I'd be complaining?
The service there is great, I just wish the falafels were better. I am down to try to gyros or chicken gyros there too, as well as the carrot cake some day.1 Previous Review: Show all »

What a great little place! I like the food and the people working were nice and prompt. My Salad was fresh and the radish was tasty...I mean what more can you ask for from a fast pita joint?
What really stands out is that the regulars can pin their reward card on the wall. That being said there are a LOT of regulars...matter of fact I think all restaurants should do it so you can see the traffic for the place. -

I got a Cuban sandwich here a couple months ago, and it was tasty, though didn't compare to 90 Miles Cuban Cafe.
However, I am now eating an open face turkey sandwich, which is like Thanksgiving in a sandwich (turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce...), which seems good in theory. However, this one sucks. It seems like all the ingredients are super cheap, and I do not understand why the gravy is yellow. If you want a GOOD open face turkey sandwich, get the Macy's Parade from New York Deli.
I don't even want to eat much of this food, which is sad, cause I was hungry, and I always love eating! : / -

I love Eat-a-Pita; it's such a great neighborhood joint. They've got diner-style favorites (like meatloaf, melt sandwiches, burgers) but also sandwich wraps. And stir fry. And baked potatoes. And baked potatoes with stir fry on top. You can go as healthy (veggie sandwich) or as sinful (cheesy beef) as your heart or stomach desires. Definitely a menu with something for everyone!
My current favorite dish of choice is the chicken gyro sandwich - yum yum, so delicious. They also have homemade soups every day, and a very tempting dessert cooler (usually with samples of chocolate pudding available)!
I like dining in because all of the tabletops have these cool "local landmark" maps of Chicago neighborhoods from the 90s and it's fun to sit at a different table each time :) The food always comes out fast, and everyone who works there is incredibly nice. -

I'd love to tell you I just like this place, however i ended up eating here 4 times in one week, which clearly means i more than just like it. Its so affordable and good, too things that i really really love. They delivered my order for the big Bears game in almost less than 20 minutes and gave me the best bacon cheeseburger i can ever remember eating (you can get extra bacon for free!).
The staff at eat apita are very nice, plus Ilove the atmosphere they offer when you visit. It remindsme alot of the diner from happy days, except it looks nothing like happy days...but dammit if ihad my own updated version of happy days this place would be it!
Another great reason to live in this neighborhood..... -

I have nothing but good things to say about this little local spot. I have been coming here for years, everything from the staff to the food is usually top notch . I can't believe any hater posts.
With a name like Eat A Pita, you would expect to find a small little restaurant with nothing but pitas. That's not the case. This quaint little place has everything from ribs to fries and burgers, with awesome desert.
The staff is always friendly and attentive, and the food never gets you sick-like some of the "greasy spoon, diner types"
I have tried just about everything on their menu and having used to live and work in the area , been a patron for many years. After the remodel, this has become a great place for " day after drinking " food on a Saturday morning .
As for the interior , each table has a cool little detailed map of the various towns in the area from the 80s, definitely something to keep you occupied while eating .
From their amazing burgers (I add avocado to most ) to their meatloaf specials ( yes, meatloaf) You really just can't go wrong if your in the area and in need of a quick , affordable bite. -

We've all had those nights: where you're so hungry that everything sounds good, and the only thing way to decide on what to eat is to consider a place that has every possible food item under the sun.
...enter Eat-A-Pita (delivery!).
Whether you are looking for a sandwich, burger, stir fry, salad, milkshake, gyro, Italian beef, cheese fries, chicken tenders, fried anything....ok you get the idea, Eat-A-Pita has it. At a very reasonable, typical-diner price. And it will only be but so greasy. And they will deliver it to you. And you will like it. All of it.

Holy moses! This place should be renamed Eat-A-Anything.
The variety is astounding. Just to showcase a few items: hot dog, mostaccholli, taco-seasoned stir fry on a baked potato, pizza puff, open-faced hot turkey with cranberry sauce and stuffing (monthly special), wraps, grilled sammies, .. basically anything that you can grill, and then lots of things you cannot grill.
And cheap!! VERY CHEAP.
I ate a turkey, cheese, and roasted red pepper wrap. What made it better than average was the turkey chunks and the wrap engineering... The turkey was real meat chunks, like the stuff you have for turkey sammies after Thanksgiving. The wrap was closed with some magical edible white paste that you didn't even notice until about half-way through eating it, when I contemplated why the whole thing hadn't unraveled yet. Such a simple concept, yet it made all the difference! Thank you for making my eating experience so worry-free! -

Where is your go to order place when you want delivery when you are at work? This place is mine. My go-to place.
Being as busy as i am, sometimes I forget to brown bag it. Eat-a-pita is here to save the day. We usually get together 5 orders that are all specified to our likings: 2 types of salad dressings on the side, extra BBQ sauce, no cheese, extra cheese, you get the point. Well the fine folks at Eat-a-Pita makes things easier for their customers.
When you call, there is a recording of some guy saying the daily specials and the specials are cheap and delicious. My favorite is the 1/2 BBQ chicken. It comes with 1/2 a BBQ chicken, rice or fries, and soup or salad. I opt for that lemony yellow rice and their beautifully fresh made salads. Oh, and how could I forget their garlic bread? Well That meal is on point. Their menu is GIGANTIC. Anything you could ever want, crispers, pita pocket sammies, salads, Italian beefs, fish, etc. I mean EVERYTHANG. The food when delivered is hot, fast, and delicious. When the food comes, the orders are usually how we ordered it. Usually when you ask for delivery, other joints tend to mess up one thing up. I am very impressed with their efficiency and delicious food.
I recommend you try them for delivery but unfortunately i cannot comment on their actual restaurant. If the dine in is just as good as their delivery....its expected to be spectacular. I see Eat-a-Pita in the VERY near future. Very near. -

I'm giving Eat a Pita the full fiver because of five different reasons.
1) They specify what's vegetarian on the menu
2) Falafel is made to order and still hot when it's served to you
3) Tziki sauce (or however you spell that)...omg. omgomg noms...They give it to you in a little plastic cup, I'd say about 2-3 tablespoons worth. No one should eat that much creamy stuff in one sitting but it sure is easy to do.
4) The menu is HUGE. There's something for everyone.
5) The people working there are so nice. When I was there last, there was a huge family enjoying dinner. Turns out it was the family of the people who own the place, since a couple of them kept getting up and grabbing food from the kitchen. It reminded me of my family, and made me feel at home. -

I want to give this place some good press because it deserves it and there aren't many places like this left.
I used to eat here all the time for lunch while working in purgatory at DSW. It's nothing exceptional but they have a diverse menu that will appeal to all tastebuds. I always get the guacamole cheeseburger which is super cheap at just over $5.
The service is fast and friendly. They also have stacks of The Onion and the Chicago Reader which is a nice addition for any quick stop eatery.
I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a bite in the area. -

Eat a Pita is such a decadent delight and I love that they deliver. I actually have a little ritual: I order the chicken teriyaki pita with extra meat and fries on the side. When it arrives, I dump the tasty saucy chicken and veggies over the fries and eat that in a bowl. In the meantime I take the tasty pita, which is soaked with teriyaki and cheesy bits, and put it in the oven to get it crispy and caramelized. Then I eat it.
If I'm feeling particularly self-indulgent I also order a side of fried mushrooms with ranch. -

Good freakin' God Almighty. I haven't written a review on Eat-A-Mutha-Frickin-Pita yet? Oh pickles!
Well, this was pretty much my mainstain during some rough patches where I was attached to my computer ala "The Net." The have NO MINIMUM DELIVERY AMOUNT, so I could order a delicious Toasted Crisper & Barq's Root Beer & have it delivered to me within moments.
It was a godsend.
I've since turned on various friends to this extravaganza of delivery deliciousness. In fact, the ex-roommate & the ex-boyfriend are frequent patrons ... going so far as to be on a quite friendly basis with the delivery drivers (not THAT friendly, this isn't Penthouse forum I'm penning here). To the point where, at one point, the driver told me, "Your friend just ordered. I just came from there. Bacon cheeseburger with avocado, right?" That's my old roomie!
They are consistent, they are tasty, they are super-friendly, they are cheap. PLUS you can order online now (may have a order minimum for online, I'm not 100%).
It's not Charlie Trotter's level of food, but it's fast, it's convenient, it's friendly service, & it's good to fill a hungry belly! -
Review from Laura W.
I love Eat A Pita. The cheesy chicken on a toasted crisper is my go to sandwich when I am in the mood for something filling and slightly unhealthy. I also love their fries, they always seem to cook them to the perfect crispiness and they are never burnt or soggy.
The menu is huge and seems to constantly be expanding. They have greek, mediterranean, and vegetarian dishes along with old american standbys. There is something on the menu no matter what mood you are in and if someone in your group has a more restricted diet I am sure they can find something to eat.
The guys behind the counter are always friendly and welcoming. I go in there all the time by myself and have never had a problem with customer service or my order.
The only downside is that they close early. They take the last order at 9:45pm and I always seem to want to eat there after they are closed. So as long as I get there before then it is never a problem. -

The ultimate dive food experience, they have seriously almost anything you can think of on the menu. Yes it is dive food but what is strange is that it is good on so many different levels.
Let's go with the obvious first, great drunk food!!
Good food on the go for a snack or to fill your belly.
Fast (mostly) when you are starving and will eat anything at that point, also cooked when ordered so it's hot!!
Good at any time of the day.
Yes the floors are sticky along with everything else in there including the cooks but the food is good!!! It's cheap and it's always good for people watching. Man, now I want a chicken sandwich.
WAIT.... there is ice cream there?!?!?! WHERE!?!?Listed in: Lakeview, My Hangover

Very good Sandwiches, The Chicken Salad with Pineapple is the best but if they would not put so much celery and more pineapple it would be even better.
Every second Thursday they have a Split Pea Soup w/no meat which is outstanding!
The prices are amazing for the area and the salads are also very generous and crispy! -

[WARNING: CHARGES A SURCHARGE OF $.50 FOR CREDIT CARDS!]
I have loved this place forever. The delivery is always fast, and the food is good (if you're into this type of food), and I liked what they did with the inside decor (repainted and table cloths), but something has made me sour.
Recently, I went to the restaurant (have not been in a while, nor ordered on phone) and was told point-blank after I placed the order and gave them my credit card that there was a $.50 charge for credit cards.
I told them "No Thanks" and walked away.
If the price of doing business taking credit cards is hurting your business, then stop taking them. Sparta Gyros on Broadway/Belmont doesn't take cards and they are STILL in business).
Sadly, they are off my menu counter as of this posting.
NOTE TO MANAGEMENT: Please review your rules on accepting credit cards from Visa. You CANNOT charge a surcharge. I'd be more than happy to show. -

March 2009: I am craving a falafel sandwich before attending a party in the neighborhood. I stop in here, peruse the menu...start to furrow my brow...scour that menu for the word "falafel" with no results. What? No falafel? With a name like Eat-A-Pita? That's what I really wanted, but after the guy spent a full minute selling me on their specialties (stir-fry pitas and "crispers") I felt obligated to stay. The menu is large and confusing but I ended up with the cajun-style chicken stir-fry pita with rice, and it was decent. Seemed generously portioned too for $6.
August 2009: I come in here for a milkshake while walking home from lunch...falafel is still nowhere on the menu, but there it is on the specials board! What the hell?! Anyway, I may or may not come back for the falafel, but their other food is nothing special.
The chocolate malt was very close to greatness. Perfect thickness, very good malt flavor, but slightly too light on the chocolate flavor. With another squirt of syrup, this could have been a top-three malt.
Oh, and they have rice pudding! It's about a B. The flavor is good, right balance of sweetness and riceness, with cinnamon but no raisins. This stuff must be intended to be eaten cold because room-temperature or warm, it is runny. -

And now for an inside look at my endocrine system:
Hormones: Stacey, it's about that time of the month. Wouldn't it be a great idea to have a meal full of sodium goodness (but not so much that you can taste all the salt) complimented by a sweet creamy dessert?
Stacey: WHY YES HOMONES! THATS EXACTLY WHAT I WANT AND I WANT IT NOW!!! (evidently I scream whenever premenstrual).
Hormones: I suggest eat-a-pita. I know, we always go there for such cravings, but really is there anywhere better?
Stacey: NO!! THERE IS NO WHERE ELSE THAT DELIVERS, IS CHEAP, AND WILL SATISFY MY CRAVING (also, I am too lazy to move during this time)
Hormones: Then eat-a-pita it is. You look tired, why don't you let me call?

end scene.
Anyway, I usually get a chicken avacado pita with swiss cheese and a PB milkshake. It is SOOOO good and makes me feel like all is right with the world for a few minutes (yeah, that's all the time it takes me to scarf that thing down). The milkshakes really are excellent. Especially the peanutbutter one:)
Men, I think you'll like eat-a-pita too (i don't want you to feel left out) -

I never really ate here because of the kitschy name, but after a friend of mine recommended I try it a few years ago, I was sorely angry at myself for not trying it sooner. Great menu, great food, great service. I have never been disappointed by these awesome folks.
I went a few times last week because it's right by my job and didn't realize they had a Frequent Flyer Club. The young lady behind the counter recognizes me every time and she actually gave me a card and stamped it a few times to make up for the times I didn't use it.
There are many healthy options on the menu and although I've never sat down and ate in their dining area, there's lots of room and yet seems really cozy. They don't skimp on the portions, so if your eyes are always as big as mine, go easy or you'll stuff yourself silly.
