The best place to go for a fetal ultrasound!  Even if it is on the east side.  Warm and caring staff that treat you like a human being, rather than sheep to be mindlessly herded from one procedure room to the next.

Ask for Tom K.--he's the best!

Wow.  That's all I can say.  Well, maybe not all...

Obviously nobody wants bad news when they are pregnant.  So after getting some worrisome news (aka - Quad Screen results which fyi have a freaky rate of false positives) from my midwife, I needed to go see a perinatologist for follow-up and further testing.  A good friend of mine highly recommended Dr. Gavrila over at Eastside Maternal Fetal Medicine, so I called the next morning to see when I could get in.

First off, working with Kayla at the front desk was such a pleasure.  She was very sweet, very professional and when she had a last minute cancellation, called me right away to get me in that very day.  When we got in, we met first with Shannon, our genetic counselor (also very nice & very professional - you'll see a theme developing here).  She spent about half an hour with us and I have to say that by the time we left her office we were already feeling better.

Then it was off to the ultrasound room.  After a less-than-pleasant experience with our 11 week ultrasound at a certain Seattle place, we weren't sure what to expect; but Phil our ultrasound tech was above and beyond great.  He was thoughtful and reassuring (also really nice & very professional), and he walked us through the entire procedure, pointing out everything he was looking for and what he was seeing.  He took a lot of pictures and video for us and really made sure we understood everything we were seeing.  By the time he went off to make his calculations and consult with the doctor, we were even more reassured and relieved at what we had seen.

Then Phil came back with Dr. Gavrila.  He was 180 degrees the opposite of any MD I have ever personally worked with.  He was completely relaxed and friendly, and did not present like most MD's I've encountered, as if he was in a rush and any questions would be slowing him down.  He took his time and made sure to answer all of our questions, explained his findings and the results of the tests that were done, in great detail; explained the pros and cons of the amniocentesis, and when we had to decide about whether or not to actually get the amnio, actually told us to take some time and talk about it, he would step out and we just needed to let him know when we made our decision.  All very relaxed and thoughtful.  Wow.

After talking about it and deciding to go ahead with the amnio, we let the desk know we were ready, and about two minutes later, Dr. Gavrila was back with Phil and ready to get it done (right then, no waiting).  I won't say the amnio was a pleasant experience, but it was definitely not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.  Dr. Gavrila was very reassuring and talked me through the entire procedure, and was very relaxed and extremely proficient with it.  He explained everything I needed to know for after-care and made sure that any questions we had were completely and thoroughly answered before saying goodbye.

I'm sure it helps that our results were good, but I cannot say enough great stuff about Eastside Maternal Fetal Medicine.  Every single aspect of our interaction with them was of the highest order of care and professionalism.  We felt extremely well taken care of and I will not only go back to them for any future pregnancy (given that I'm not the youngest mom on the block), but I will also highly recommend them to any of my patients, friends or family who might be in need of perinatology care.

Absolutely top notch!

This place is just unbelievable!
I'm a regular there these days, being on the last weeks of a high-risk pregnancy, managed amazingly well by the Eastside stuff.
It begins with the offices, that don't look or feel like any other doctor's office I have ever seen - beautiful, state-of-the-art place, amazing waiting area. It continues with the receptionist, who knows most of the regular patients by their names, and it comes down to the wonderful and professional stuff.
Being a high-risk expectant mother, I have met 4 of their ultrasound technicians, 3 of the doctors and probably all the nurses. I've had amnio, monthly ultrasounds till now, and bi-weekly tests (NST and ultrasound) these days. Fun fun fun.
However, coming here is always a pleasant (YES, I meant PLEASANT) experience. The stuff is always relaxed and professional, never in a hurry, they have answers to all my questions and they take the time to educate me. I especially liked Dr. De-Regt, whom I saw most often and who was so kind and sweet, that I would have liked her to be my friend. or at least my aunt :-).
To sum it up, I don't recommend a high-risk pregnancy to anyone, but if this is your faith, know that it's not that bad and head straight to Eastside MFM - they'll take a very good care of you!
