I used to love eastridge. parking is never ever an issue, its spacious and they sold the cheapest stuff. yeah they had some cheesy stores and booths, like the one that sold giant buttons with your picture on it in color, black and white or sepia (yes i got one). but i went back last week and i was sorely disappointed. all the ghetto stores were gone! i used to get hair pins and stuff for 1$, and they had this crazy cheap photo studio you could get 20 wallet pics for 5$. i didnt see the orange julius place either. maybe they got pushed out by higher rent?
it has totally transformed from just a couple years ago. i remember i came here to get some baby phat clothes for my bfs friends in germany 2 years ago, and they had at least 3 stores with a big selection. but this time i didnt see almost any stores with ghetto fabulous clothes. i think those stores must have relocated to the great mall, cause they proliferate there. they also used to have this amazing place in the food court called "stick and dip" which sold its entire menu on a stick. sigh, that was amazing. there are still some cheap clothing places, but not more than you can find in any decent strip mall on the east side (like the one on capitol and mckee). it seems like they are trying to remake the mall into a more mainstream one, which is their loss, if you ask me. it is losing its local flavor.
on a positive note, there are a bunch of big stores like barnes and noble, if you like that kind of thing, and the mall is really sparsely occupied, so you dont have to fight the crowds that you find in other local malls.
also, they have daiso, the japanese dollar store, which is awesome. there are only a few of these in the US, and one of them is here.
if you want to go to a not-too-huge mainstream mall, and you hate crowds, this is the place for you.
I guess there's 2 different Eastridge Reviews floating around Yelp.
To benefit society, and to protect your well being and valuables, I'm reposting.
Eastridge. The perfect disclaimer to shop here is an excerpt borrowed from Eurotrip:
Hello, and welcome to Amsterdam's (East Side San Jose's) finest and most luxurious youth hostel (shopping mall). We feature one medium sized room containing 70 beds which can sleep up to 375 bodies a night. There is no bathroom. Nor is there one nearby. If you do not wish to have your valuables stolen I suggest destroying them or discarding them right now. You can also try hiding your valuables. In your anus. This will deter some but of course not all thieves. Once you are inside, the doors are chained and locked from the outside. They will not be opened again until morning, no matter what. Should a fire occur due to our faulty wiring or, uh, the fireworks factory upstairs you will be incinerated along with the valuables that you have hidden in your anus.
I used to be a manager at PACSUN here. This mall is like a youth center for thugs, a playground for pregnant teen moms and their gaggle of kids, and apparently the people there think the place is a Salvation Army where everything is free (i.e. five finger discount, much?).
I don't care much for any of the stores. I might venture here again to eat at Macaroni Grill. That's it.
I gave 2 stars because the people who work there aren't bad. Everyone gets close and friendly cuz the mall is so flippin dead in the morning; the thugs who ditch school and gangbang around the mall don't wake up till around noon anyways.
and it's not a matter of being snooty or not. it's really just the mall. my friend worked loss prevention at Macy's here and she says she's nailed more people in a week here, then she has in 2-3 months elsewhere.

Eastridge was my place to hang out back in the days, I grew up living right across the street from the mall right on Quinby rd, I use to watch all the planes go right over our house.
I used to ice skate evry weekend and the ice arean to bad its gone, but I did get the chance to go one last time before it closed.
Yah It was a while ago lets see I was going to Evergreen elem. Leyva Jh and Silver Creek high wow I was on the eastside most of my life now im in Los Banos Ca no mall except for Wal-mart wow..
But yes Eastridge was my spot to hang out shop and pick up on the girls , I;m going to have to visit one day it must be like 15 to 20 yrs since I've been there.

3 1/3 stars. Not sure about the bad ratings for Eastridge. I'll confess that I am old enough to remember when it opened, and it was a big event for my sisters and I to go to the mall for back-to-school shopping and lunch in the food court. So nostalgia works in my favor.
Once we got Oakridge, I never went back to Eastridge. Plus, yes, it's in East San Jose, which has a certain bad reputation. That said though, I recently went back with my own daughter because we got a flyer for a new kid clothing store we wanted to check out (Crazy 8). I think the mall is great.
I love the ramps, the wide walkways, and the overall openness. Even with lots of people, it didn't feel crowded. It is situated on a huge plot of land, so parking is no issue whatsoever, unlike Oakridge and Valley Fair, which, even with the parking garages, SUCK for parking.
Eastridge is anchored by Sears, JCPenney, and Macy's and then has the usual suspects in between. Not a huge mall, but so spacious and clean...I like it. Plus, I love that most of the key restaurants are in the parking lot, so you don't have to actually go into the mall to enjoy Chili's, Macaroni Grill, etc. Red Robin is in the mall, but also accessible right outside JCPenney, again, with plenty of parking.
Give Eastridge a break. The crowd is no worse than the throngs at Snobby Valley Fair and Hang-Out Oakridge Land. And the layout and parking is much better than those other two. (Granted, I'll still go to Valley Fair for the stores that aren't at Oakridge or Eastridge, so they've all got their plusses and minuses.)

Most of the time my friend, whenever she's back, and I go here because it's close to her house. She lives somewhere around YB and I live in Milpitas so you know driving to other malls gets to be a hassle. Anyway, our routine consists of a movie, Starbucks, and B&N. We spend way too much time in B&N. This mall is nothing special but it has been good to my friend and me.
As for clothes shopping, I haven't bought anything here in a long time.
i O noe y ppl are hatin on EASTRIDGE i'm from ESSJ (born nd still being raised) if yooh dnt lyk tha ppl dat kick it there den dnt go theirz many othr places where yOoh can go to shop. itz my favorite mall nd kick it spot....if yOoh dnt lyk us ppl dat kick it there den too bad!!!!

Ok so it's not the best mall in San Jose. However I like this proximity of this mall being close by my house, and the fact that I can be in and out relatively quickly. So what if it's in the ESSJ? You can't handle it? Get your snooty ass the hell out then. Sometimes I just need to return/exchange an item somewhere and don't feel like driving to Valleyfair and being stuck in 280 traffic. I love how it's only like a 5-7 minutes drive away from me [when I hit all greens] and the recent renovations sure helped give this place a much needed face lift. They always have a lot of new stores constantly opening up... but I come for Andersen's jalapeno cheese bread *drools* and love how it's on the outskirts of the mall so I don't have to trek alllllllll the way in just to get my fix [unlike the Great Mall branch]. Haha, who goes to the mall JUST for bread? I do, apparently. I agree with what some other reviewers said about Macy's being on the dingy and small side, but I love that they have a MAC counter.

I love this mall because it's so easy to get in and out of there..unlike the other big malls. I never feel unsafe...not sure why people talk crap like that. The Macy's is smallish but it can get the job done quickly when you need to run in and run out. Can't do that at most of the other malls anymore.

I've been going to Eastridge since the early '70s (yeah, I'm ancient), have seen it go through several renovations (I still miss the fountain with the giant metal sculpture in the center of the mall, from WAY back in the day), & I have to say, I don't much care for its current incarnation. The ramps are just wonky; overall, it's far more difficult to navigate than it used to be. Can't say as I've had any trouble with gangsters or punks, though; I'm usually more bothered by the bazillion rampant ankle biters whose parents can't be bothered to supervise them.

Ok, Eastridge might have "ghetto" kids who act hard, but they are not as loud as rebellious white kids (aka skaters) at Oakridge (I swear everytime i go to oakridge, i see a white kid trying to act smart in front of the security). So I don't know why you guys are complaining about Eastridge
I have been going to Eastridge since I was 5, so I had a lot of great memories here - eating cinnabons, hiding under cloths racks, etc.
Now that its remodeled, its even better with Old Navy and Barnes and Noble. AND the prices are cheaper than Oakridge because like many people say "its ghetto".
Honestly, I don't care if a mall looks "ghetto". As long as i get cheap clothes, then its all good.

This mall isn't so bad, I really like that everything is pretty new. There is a good variety of stores ranging from Forever 21 to Tilly's (which I thought was only in Southern California).
The setup was kinda odd, there were huge ramps going all over the place. Another thing I noticed was the amount of children. I must have almost kicked over 4 or 5 of them cause their parents were letting them run rampant. In other words, the people who frequent this mall.. maybe not so classy.
One thing I really treasured was the Daisho Japan store. Come on, how can you beat a Japanese buck fifty store? Ya can't!
The food court is located on the way other end instead of being centered in the middle (as you can tell, I got lost looking for it). Avoid eating at Charley's, they're over-priced and bland. I should have known better than opt for cheesesteaks in a mall food court.
I'd probably come back to do shopping, especially for Daisho.

I have been visiting Eastridge since 1980. That's right! I'm born and raised in San Jose! Eastridge has been a significant part of my life. Why? Well... DUH! Cali people and their favorite malls are like peanut butter and jelly..... adobo and steamed rice...... you get the picture.
Stores that rocked in the 80's:
- Karl's Toys 's
- The Wherehouse Music
- JC Penny's
- Emporium Capwell
This Saturday I was able to make a return visit to Eastridge. It has been nearly five years since I graced the ENTIRE mall (all million square feet of it). In the past, I'd do the in and out thing and never spent time to fully absorb its major face life and upgrades. In the 90's, it became so ghetto shop here. I ventured off to other malls like Valley Fair...Stoneridge.... Great Mall. Finally, today I was pleased with its changes.
Stores that rock today:
- Sports Chaplet (only sports store that doesn't carry ghetto crap).
- Macy's (gentlemen has to shop).
- Sears (Craftsmans tools... LOVE IT).
I'll be coming back to this review. I intend to shop here this coming Christmas season! No more ghetto look.... its all new to me now. Nice to come back to a place I know and missed.

The Bay Area's only ghettofabulous shopping mall! There's two things I go here for: The AMC movie theatre, and the Red Robbin. Everything else seems like crap. Most of the stores are the types of places that I look inside and I can't figure out who would buy that junk. Like paintings on a velvet canvas... what's up with that? And the people walking around, they're all high school kids with these obese-size pants around their knees with ugly boxers (come on, if you're going to show off your underwear, at least wear 2xist or something hot). The movie theatre is good though. It's clean, comfortable, and usually not sold out.

Born and Raised on the Eastside San Jose, and still love this mall. It's very easy to find parking!! Macy's is OK there are better ones but its all good it will work to get a MAC fix! :) Sun Jose is the BEST!! People in there are great and it brings me back to the felling of being in Maui. Yes there are a lot of teenagers there, but they have to hang out there and cant hate on them because I use to be there all the time to when I was a teenager!! Red Robin is off the HOOK!! Love it there...
I created an "Eastridge Mall" List and I just realized I haven't reviewed the entire mall yet.. So here it goes..
Yes, this mall is no Valley Fair - but it's not suppose to be! The demographics around Eastridge is low to middle working class, and this mall needs to reflect that. But the mall is also aware of the recent growth of income from those in the Evergreen Hills - and they need to accommodate that demographic as well. And I think that Eastridge is doing their best to make all their customers happy.
I've grown up going to Eastridge with my mom, hanging out here with friends, worked here during renovations at Zales, and stayed at Zales long enough to survive two Christmas-Holiday-Seasons in the "new Eastridge Mall" - and it's been good to me.
Yes, you're in the Eastside - and there are gangs in the area, but no need to bring out your bulletproof Hummer. Come on now, if they haven't scared away those rich folks in the Evergreen Hills - then I think you can survive 3 hours of shopping here!

Dang I can't believe so many people diss the Eastridge mall. I like it they have a nice little selection of stores that I shop at and the list isn't as high class as Valley Fair but I'm in college and not trying to spend hella money for stuff. Plus they have a Tully's, Zumiez, A+E, and Hot Topic all in the same area and thats where I usually get my tight stuff from. As for the wangstas its not that bad Southland Mall in Hayward is much worse.

Eastridge is the mall I grew up with as well as Oakridge. Eastridge holds so many memories for me. I've seen it go through I think two renovations. The way it is now, is a lot fancier than I've ever seen it.
There is no reason for people to be afraid of gangsters. Seriously you have to give them a reason to hurt you. People just don't go out of their way to punch you. I've never been hurt just walking through Eastridge and I've been going there since I was a baby.
As for parking, yes cars get broken into on the east side, so make sure you park in a busy area. They do have security drive around the lots.
JC Penny's is the best, because for some reason they have the cutest selection of clothes compared to Vallco. There are so many different shops in the mall and that is what differentiates it from places like Valley Fair, you get variety not similarity. Have fun.
Eastridge is coo.. it has all the basics all in one area with a couple of no name shops that sale quality merchandise. If you don't like walking in circles like the Great Mall or gettin lost at Oakridge then Eastridge is what you want to stick with. Plus they have the AMC theatre now so it isn't that dull- Close, Convenient, and has the Basics Covered.. I don't see why people make the big fuss about it..

My friend returned after 6 months in college and remarked that San Jose looked more "ghettoized", if you catch my drift.
Why? We took him to Eastridge.
Teenyboppers loiter around everything -- the worst kind too. The rude ones that constantly make out with their boyfriends-of-the-week and the wannabe gangster kinds.
I only go to Eastridge when I need to get something specific -- a cheap dress of some sort, but otherwise I stay away.
The second star is for the Barnes and Noble .. because it's my favorite place in the world. And the teenyboppers are allergic to books and being intelligent -- so the B&N here makes Eastridge a little bit better!
I guess Eastridge could be amusing -- if you wanted to watch America's youth deteriorate.

Honestly, I don't get it when people hate on Eastridge.
True, it may be full of hilarious wannabe gangsters... but for the most part, they don't really bother the shopping experience. (If you go at the right time, that is.)
They have the standard shop selection here: AE, Aeropostle, Victoria's Secret, Hollister, B&N (finally!), Bath and Body Works, Hot Topic, and a movie theater (AMC). (and others) There's everything for anyone at acceptable prices.
The food selection here is acceptable, though what I don't get is the amount of pretzel shops in the mall. (Wetzel, Auntie Anne's, an the food court one.)
It's pretty clean too.
Just a word of caution - my mom parked at the parking garage (under AMC, near Sears) at night, and someone smashed our car window to steal the side mirror... so park near well-lit places at dark.
Ghetto..
teeny-boppers and boys with XXXXXXXL t-shirts walking around with no intention to buy.
i hate this place.
I honestly dont think this mall is as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
It's great when you need to pick up something real fast.
Or have the sudden urge to shop at a certain store like macy's or forever 21 ( which by the way is my favorite forever 21) its ok. They did a pretty good job at trying to remodel it but it could use some more work and stores.
I dont think the people (or teens) that shop there are that rude as long as you mind your own busness but i guarantee you will ALWAYS see someone you know there!
the mall-ok.
the theatres-lord thats a WHOLE nother story.

So being that I'm still upset over the GAP closing at Eastridge in junior high, I've been through A LOT with this mall. I think now that the mall is 100% renovated, I'm quite impressed. The building itself looks new and clean with light colored floors and walls, natural sunlight shining through, leather furniture seating areas. All I remember about the mall in years' past is brown since the mall was old with dark tiles and walls. I had pretty much stopped going to Eastridge for the past 5 yrs.
As much as I love to support the small boutiques with their independent labels and love my comfy Citizens jeans, I'm no label whore anymore so I don't mind making a quick stop into Eastridge if I need a trendy party top (Macy's, Forever21), a hoodie or bum clothes (Aeorpostale, Hollister, AE), a versatile sweater for work (Old Navy)...if any of the clothes fall apart, oh well, I only paid $20-$30 for one item! And if you can't find a pair of sneakers at this mall, you need to open your eyes because there have to be 10+ specialty shoe stores (Foot Locker, Tilly's, Journeys, etc).
Also glad to have the other chain restaurant alternatives in the area like Chili's and Macaroni Grill (not sure that's open yet). The food court's cool too, but we lost the yummy Mexican food and the hof brau run by Chinese people...now that's an old Eastridge reference!
Customer service is def spotty at the mall. Some people look like they'd rather die than be working. Here's a breakdown of some of my regular stops:
Great service: Workmen's Balance (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), Sun Jose, Bed Bath Beyond, AE, Trade Secret, Barnes & Noble (http://www.yelp.com/bi...)
OK service: Old Navy, Hollister, Forever21, Customer Service (they closed 30 min before the mall closed on xmas eve when I needed some last minute gift cards)
Bad service: Aeropostale, Victoria's Secret (http://www.yelp.com/bi...)
Like all malls, Eastridge has the dominant presence of teenagers (yeah, I used to take bus 71 or 39 here after school in jr high). And if you're from the east side and you're young and at the mall, then of course you're "ghetto". But if you think Oakridge on the south side doesn't have its share of "ghetto" teenagers, then go there on a Friday night. Of course my first choice would be VF or downtown SF, but I'm thankful for having the revamped Eastridge Mall just a mile from my parents' house when I don't want to deal with the crowds or fight for parking.

I guess this is an okay mall. before I was able to drive I mostly shopped here and all since im so close.
Ups:
many shoe stores
workmens cuz there isnt a place like this around except dtown
Bus Station takes u n e where lol
food court is above average.
downs:
crowded with boppers and wannabe gaystars
needs a bit more clothing stores
sheik here is the worst
not much downs but yeah its just ok
uhh... I came here because I wanted to check if something was in-stock at a store..
and honestly, I don't think I ever want to come back here. You'd have to pay me AND reimburse me for gas before I would even re-consider. It's not really the stores that's an issue as it is the people.

Out of all the malls I go to... even if I mainly go to VF... some of the stores in Eastridge Mall has pretty bad customer service. (If you can read from my other reviews.) The only perks are Workmen's Balance (although I don't tend to shop there) and Tilly's. Hollister is okay since they most likely have my size in stock maybe because not many people shop there since everyone from my school works there. and ETC. Overall I give it a 3 just for pity.
auhh yes. you could slap a bed bath beyond and an amc on this mall but it will still be eastridge. it's more of a hang out spot for kids than it is a mall.
i really don't mind all the kids. how can you when the mall is smack dab in the middle of four east side san jose high schools (mt pleasant, silver creek, overfelt, evc).
i love red robin! the next closest one is all the way in santa clara.
todai's not too bad too. and it looks like its on the rise again since its under new ownership.
shirtique rocks! not only do they carry all bay area sports apparel (and lots of stuff i've never seen) but they do excellent jersey customization for cheap! my go to place for all my jersey numbering needs.
barnes and noble is nice too. this place is like kryptonite to the teeny boppers so i don't mind going here.
i would give it 5 stars but four because of the ice arena closing. not only was the ice arena a fun place to kill time, but i loved going into their pro shop. kid in a candy store status, ya dig...

3 Stars for the New AMC theatre. The rest of the mall was closed so I can't really review it. BUt If i remember back to my elementary school days this place was waaaaaaaaaayy ghetto.
What's that saying?, "You can move a __fill in the blank___ out of the ghetto but he's/she's still ghetto." The mall looks beautiful - compared to what it looked like before and the AMC theater really helps. But you can't take away the ghetto-ness of this mall. I know teens tend to hang out at malls and movie theaters but this mall was packed with wanna-be thugs: super-duper looong t-shirts, crooked caps, sunglasses (this was 9pm inside the mall!), and more! And to top it off the service in the food court was outrageously SLOW!!! I might go back and give this place a 2nd chance, but I'm not expecting much.
Eastridge Mall..An Okay Mall, with a New AMC renovation and other new shops, a big food court i think...
Ups:Cool, Great shops and other things, like Starbucks for you who like that, and other things most people like..
Downs:Many People just hang out there every single day and it is annoying, also sometimes i feel crowded, still needs improvment..
Overall Ok Mall, I got bored in about 45 Minutes though, I dont really go to malls much, But if you have to go to a mall go to this one, Or i reccomend just go to Valley Fair, Or Great Mall.. Eastridge has many items people need and want, the rest is up to you,.
As previous reviewers have said, this mall is "ghetto". If I ever want to drive to east San Jose, I'll do it in a bulletproof car.
ugh. i hate gangster/wannabe gangster kids.
eastridge mall is a lot better than it used to be.
they have some better stores now/opening (ie b&n), but really they don't have a lot of the stores i like to shop at. why isn't there a gap??? why did they get rid of express?? who knows
the food court is pretty good, you can get a lot of different kinds of food/snacks and whenever i go there is always plenty of seating and it's clean
i wouldn't go to the movies there simply because it's more expensive than somewhere like camera, but yeah it has that too.
parking isn't as bad as a place like valley fair or oakridge, but really that's because those other malls have more stores that people want to shop in. but still, for a lot of people it's the closest mall.
one annoying thing is that whenever you sit down on the floor or anywhere that isn't a bench, a stupid security guard will come tell you not to sit there, yet there aren't enough benches around! ridiculous
