This isn't 5-star food in the Chez Panisse sense, but it's earned 5 stars by being the best delivery Chinese I've ever had.
It's fast. It's PIPING hot. It's fresh. It's tasty.
There are little touches that you don't usually get with delivered food, such as fresh, bright green scallion rings on top of the mapodoufu. The vegetable fried rice is not my favorite in terms of fried-rice taste (needs more sesame oil or something), but I still love it because it has tons of broccoli, carrot, and more--not the usual half-hearted tiny cubes of carrot and a handful of peas that most places give you. I pretend it's healthy!
My favorite items are the sesame chicken, general's chicken, veggie fried rice, eggplant, and mapodoufu. The sesame and general's chicken are strictly American-Chinese cooking, but they're very well done examples of that. The chicken is good and not the chewy, stringy stuff you get at a lot of the steam-table places.
Eastern Winds' main shortcoming is eat-in--it's almost literally a hole in the wall, with a few chairs and tables. I've never seen anyone eat in there and you probably won't really want to either. But the nice folks who own the place are having a new place built, and it sounds like it'll be meant for dining in.
At any rate, when you're having a bad day like I am and you can't stand the thought of going out into the cold, just call out. Depending on where you live, they're really fast--the friends who introduced Eastern Winds to me refer to it as "Faster than Light Chinese." (Perhaps they're using DeLoreans--only time travel or FTL drives can explain how they get it here so fast without it being steam-table food.)

UPDATE 10/12/07:
The food we had delivered by Eastern Winds this week was fantastic! I had Walnut Prawns. The prawns were excellent quality, large, fresh, delicately cooked to the perfect degree of doneness. The walnuts had obviously been crisped with just a touch of sweetness. Both were in a delicate, unobtrusive sauce that melded the flavors to a melt-in-your mouth deliciousness that I've never had in Chinese food before. Highly recommended!
INITIAL REVIEW:
We've had them deliver before and it was just OK. Last night, however, the food was different - much better!!
I don't know if they have a different cook or what, but the pork fried rice was the best fried rice I've ever had.
I had ordered the Family Dinner, "Dinner A", and it was enough for several very hungry people. You have choices within that "dinner". We had Wonton Soup, very good; Egg Rolls, very good; Pork Fried Rice (fantastic); Sweet & Sour Chicken, excellent; Broccoli Beef, excellent.
This humongous amount of excellent food was $24.99 Delivered!
(plus tax, of course). And, they were fast! The food was nearly too hot to eat when it arrived (and we're not that close to this place).
I'm not a big fan of Chinese food (this is an understatement).
Eastern Winds may have just changed that.

Decent take-out Chinese. Admittedly, I order the same thing every time. It's like that episode on Sex in the City where Miranda calls the Chinese delivery: "Eastern Winds, can I take your order?" & the woman recognizes her voice. It's like that with me. But 1 day, on a dietary "splurge" I tried a shrimp dish (shoot, I can't remember what it was), fried rice, chicken chow mein, & the won ton soup. The won ton soup has pork, beef, and chicken. I don't eat beef so I was slightly disgusted, but the potstickers I did eat & it was good. Delivery is quick & prices are average.

Mediocre Chinese food but they have a very good War Wonton when you are sick it is the absolute best!
Also they deliver and only have a 12 dollar minimum in a city with 15-30 dollar minimums.

I like Eastern Winds. The people who run it bought my house in Mission and I feel I have to help them out (they paid a lot of money for it) :)
We order delivery from them about twice a month. I like them because their spicy food is actually SPICY! They make really good Egg Foo Yung and their Black Pepper Beef is hotter than Hades!
Their prices are very reasonable, deliver is usually quick. I feel they give good bang for the buck!
