5 reviews for Eastern Pearl Chinese Restaurant
Wow, this place lives up to the hype! It's won a number of Foodie awards, and that combined with other yelp reviews, I knew it wouldn't disappoint. It didn't.
I used to think I didn't like Chinese food that much. Then I realized it's not that I don't like the cuisine, I am just not a fan of the 'fast food' type places that saturate the market. Eastern Pearl is a diamond in the rough. (The rough being a small strip mall in Altamonte).
I had pineapple chicken, which is alot like sweet and sour chicken but the meat is not fried, and it's served inside a hollowed out pineapple (pictures to come). Also excellent was the Singapore noodles, thin curried rice noodles served with veggies and a few different meats. My Dad had shrimp fried rice, a simple dish you can get at any Chinese place, but yet this one was just so much better. Fresher maybe? Cleaner tasting... the flavors didn't muddle together into just one greasy taste.
All around good stuff!
Live over 20mi away so when we were in the neighborhood I recalled Eastern Pearl to be good. Sure enough, I was happy & satisfied. Tasty Siomai -not fatty at all. Juicy & tender spareribs. Excellent Salt & Pepper Squid.
You wouldn't expect to find a nice, sit down Chinese restaurant in this Publix strip mall, but here it is.
Eastern Pearl is classy and their tables for 4 or more have a family-style wheel in the middle that makes sharing food easier.
The food is quality, and yummy! My favorite is the rice with bacon, peas, and egg- yum!
The service is always very, very quick and the place is on the quieter side. The north side wall is a waterfall, contributing a peaceful atmosphere to this upscale place.
Considering the quality of food, quick service and pleasing surroundings, the price of the food is a bargain!
Good food but way to expensive and the restaurant it self is small also!
this place is a pretty good find for an otherwise chain ridden city. the decor is nice w/ elegant tables and a waterfall wall in the back. the service is friendly and there's a direct view into the kitchen to see your food getting made.
the food is made freshly from scratch which is something you see in much higher end asian restaurants. so given that, the pricing here is pretty good. on to the food! i started w/ my baseline, hot and sour soup, to see how good they make it. it certainly was great but i had to add more chili sauce to make it spicier. i'll let this pass as they probably notch down the spice levels here due to the fact that orlando-ians more than likely can't handle it. mom-in-law got a custom made veggie hot and sour soup (vegetable tofu soup w/ hot and sour added to it). the kitchen was so intrigued by this request that they watched from the kitchen to see if she liked it. and like it she did. for our entrees, we all shared orange chicken, spicy jumbo prawns and szechuan chicken (the wife added water chestnuts to this dish). the szechuan was the best dish at the table for sure. the orange chicken was tasty but could've been crispier and the prawns could've used a bit more seasoning.
overall, the experience was something that is very un-orlando so that's good.
