Neighborhood: Rooseveltwish this place was closer to home! such a wonderful atmosphere...and a great selection of items. could definitely spend hours here. one aspect of this store that makes it a bit different from other new-age shops is their extensive dvd and cd collection! lots of listening stations, as well... overall, e-w bookshop is a lovely place.
Seriously, the best bookstore of its kind. Not only can you pick up a new crystal, a book on the enneagram, and a singing bowl at East West, but they have an amazing tarot section as well. They have testers so you can look at the cards before you buy. I'm not really into tarot, but I really enjoy looking at the artistry.
Not only that, but they have great seminars and classes, too.
I've spent many an hour in East West just leafing through books on lazy Saturday afternoons.
As far as parking goes, I always planned a simultaneous trip to Whole Foods when visiting East West. I always parked in their underground lot and I never had any problems.
East West Bookshop is a great place to go if you need absolutely anything or any kind of information related to spiritual matters. They have a great selection and even if you're not in the market to buy, it's fun to go look around.
I've bought random books there ranging from "I Ching in English" to "The Art of War" to "All About Herbs".
On top of a great selection of books they have random clothing, various religious/spiritual trinkets, crystals, and all sorts of gift type items. They also offer workshops and lectures on occasion.
I never cease to be amazed at the variety of religions and spiritual stuffs represented. As mentioned above, it's worth it to just take a look around even if you don't want to buy anything.
The only bad thing about this bookstore is the smell. The very powerful and overwhelming smell of incense will probably linger on your clothes even after you leave. So, if you're sensitive to strong flowery smells, I would revoke my invitation to just go in for wandering.
There is soooo much to look at! Good astrology books. Well, that is where I stopped for my hour at this store!

Yoga stuff, check; Incense, check; Vegetarian cookbook, check; Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, check. I got what I knew I wanted, but I wouldn't go here to try and learn about new things unless I had hours and hours to spend. Even then it would be overwhelming. Research first, or at least ask the staff, then look for things. It's possible to find things that aren't technically "spiritual" but you should know what they are before you go. It's very soothing to walk in here but it's the only bookstore I can think of I like enter well prepared ahead of time.

Feel the need to stretch your mind? Challenge your beliefs? Connect with some inner spirituality? This is the place to "git-r-done!" Music, books, artwork, comfortable clothing for doing the yoga thing, everything you could imagine and other things you never would imagine. It has a wide variety of resources to help you with any challenges that happen to come into your life.
Its a great place to explore and dream about taking a sabbatical to Tibet or a walkabout to New Mexico. Run your hands through the smooth, polished stones or glance through the cookbooks that show you vegetarian cooking isn't boring at all.

Okay, I like this place, too. But, unless you're into spiritual/meditaional stuff, you might not enjoy the place as much. Pretty much everything they have is related to that. It's very relaxing to just walk around the store. I think they have classes there, too. It's right off of I-5.

All the Woo-woo you can do! (and then some)!!!
If there is some aspect of spirituality, the occult, religion, self-help, metaphysics, or anything else of that nature that you want a book on, this is the place. Huge selection! Along with books, they have lots of music, and a large rental video selection. They have many events and speakers at the store. They also sell lots of gifts, cards, art and knick-knacks (jewelry, crystals, yoga supplies, incense, etc). I really like this place, don't get me wrong, I just always find I get my fill of woo-woo within about 10 minutes in there. But then again, I am a cynical NYer.

This book store is only for those highly spiritually connected individuals, eastern spirituality. If you are a reiki master or advanced yoga instructor this is a great place for you. For you western yogi practitioners who go once or twice a month, I would say this place is too intense for you, it was definitely too much for me.

The East West Book Shop not only offers books and products for a variety of faiths, but also offers classes and seminars in meditation and other spiritual practices. I really enjoyed the Tibetan Buddhist singing bowls and other musical instruments used for meditation. Their journals, cards, and clothes, as well as books, would make great gifts.
