Ambiance: Very clean and brightly lit. Only a couple tables for a group of ten or so, other than that the tables are for small groups.

    Food:
I had - Chicken in clay pot
    Ma po (spicy tofu)
Minced beef with egg white soup
    GREAT SIZED PORTIONS! SCORE.

Service: The service here has always been very good. They are attentive enough because their restaurant isn't huge.

Extras: They speak English fairly well!

Price: Huge portions for the price. Great for big groups, so you can try different dishes.

Overall:  If you're looking for cheap and good Chinese food in a clean restaurant with good service, this is the place for you! (who isn't?) For two people, the bill came out to be $28 including tip AND we had leftovers for the next day! (it really can't get any better than that!) It's not the fanciest place, but for all the reasons above, I give them the highest rating!

it was xmas afternoon, and my family wanted to get dim sum for a late lunch. however, HK dim sum was crazy packed, so we went around the dun huang plaza and saw east wall was open with plenty of tables open. you'll find east wall at the very far left corner of the plaza in the back next to tofu village and frozen cafe.

once inside, you'll notice how nicely decorated and clean this restaurant looks compared to other chinese restaurants on bellaire. and, i also noticed white families here! the menu was in chinese and english, so east wall is a good place to bring non-asians who are not accustomed to dirty chinese restaurants. haha. prices aren't too bad. every dish was ~$10 except for the fancy stuff like peking duck ($25) and lobster dishes.

Pei pa tofu - fried tofu balls with some orange sauce. it was ok. tofu was sorta bland, but it was super silken soft inside, which contrasted nicely with the crispy, fried exterior.

Black and pepper fried soft shell crab - this was really good. i recommend this.

Walnut shrimp - good dish. not totally omygod yummy, but it was tasty.

Spare ribs Japanese style - super sweet and sticky. very chewy. not my style.

Gai lan chinese broccoli - really good, but you can't mess this up anyway. the soysauce that comes with it was atypically very liquidy and not the thick kind of soy sauce you usually get with gai lan.

Crispy chicken with garlic - this was just ok. it was listed as one of their "daily specials" on the tv near the kitchen, but nothing was special about it.

Clams with black bean sauce - very good. probably the best dish of the day. well, that fried soft shell crab was also really good too.

i probably wouldn't come back here just because the dishes we ordered are better elsewhere on bellaire. however, i'd come back if the people i'm bringing with me are too scared to go to the hole in the wall chinese restaurants typical of bellaire.

The ambience of this place is really nice. The interior ranks amongst the best of all the Chinese restaurants I've visited. It's at once full of red and gold and lovely art but also very cozy and warm. It's that unique ambience that is part of why I love eating at Chinese restaurants so much.

The service was really lovely as well. The food is solid. We had chicken with garlic and chili that was mostly red meat and bones. I'm willing to cut some slack here because a lot of people enjoy chicken prepared this way but eating around bones with so little meat grows old fast. Our salt and pepper crab seemed to be all salt and pepper batter with no crab. The pan fried noodle with shrimp and scrambled egg was standard. The highlight of the meal was gai lan (chinese broccoli) with malaysian curry sauce. This was excellent and if I were to return, I'd be happy to make a meal of just the gai lan.

It's a nice place for large groups and as an introduction for people who may not be ready to dive head-first into more authentic Chinese cuisine but who would appreciate that preparation. While I'd have no objections if friends suggested it, I'll continue to explore Chinatown for my stand-by.

I'd been here only once before for an outing with my Chinese class while I was still in college. The interior has definitely changed in the last couple of years since then. It feels a bit more "hip" and modern than I remembered. My girlfriend and I were greeted promptly at the door and given our seats very quickly.

The food is not the cheapest in Chinatown and there were actually some dishes that were well over $100 but to be fair, those are usually reserved for big celebrations. We got the eight treasure hotpot, roast duck, and ong choy. The hot pot and ong choy were pretty good albeit quite oily while we got the bad end of the duck (leftover bits of the roast duck). What surprised us was the time it took to bring out the food. Within about 10 minutes of ordering, the food was sitting on our table and we had already started eating.

Service was good though it seemed as though there were only 2 waiters for the entire restaurant. It was pretty busy but the waiters did a good job attending to everyone.

I think I'm going to come back again because of the wealth of items on the menu. However, I don't give it 5-stars because of the price. The price is on-par with typical American restaurants but for Chinatown, it's expensive. Overall though I had a good experience and would recommend.

East Wall, West Wall....We all Wall

The interior is interesting different. It is a mix of contemporary and traditional. There is a bar and a couple flat screens with the standard style Asian decor.  As we ate, we heard Lil Jon playing in the background which caused me a moment of confusion....am I at a restaurant or a club?..lol

My cousin said he heard they were known for their dumplings so we ordered their steam dumplings. We did two dishes - pork ribs HK style and sizzling chicken clay pot.

Steam Dumplings = 10 to an order for $6.95; the taste was ok - my cousin said it was kinda bland - but dipping it in their "hot" sauce made it tastier -- fyi, they also bring a special sauce which is a mix of soy sauce and vinegar

Pork ribs HK style - my favourite - these were delish

Chicken clay pot - bone in :( for me the sauce for this dish was way too thick and strong; a bit overwhelming so I didn't enjoy it much.

Ice tea comes in a skinny glass so if you are a drinker like me, they'll leave a small pitcher for you at the table. And I must say that their ice tea was delish.

Like all standard Chinese meals, it comes with white rice. YUM!

It was pretty reasonable - for all the above, with tax and tip, a mere $35.

Overall, I've had better but the joint was still ok. I'll probably come back.

Nothing special.  Overpriced for a restaurant in China town really.

Ordered the Peking Duck.  Seemed like there was more skin than actually meat.  And the sauce tasted kinda weird- not sure why. Even my son didnt like it.  Also ordered the clams- it was ok.  My husband ordered some spareribs.  He didnt like the sauce that it came in.

The place did look alot cleaner than the usual asian places but not worth it

I really like this restaurant.Originally, My Chinese-American friend recommended me to use the restaurant. The reasons why I like are
1,Good location; It is located in the Middle of China town. There are a lot of parking spot.2,The prices are reasonable. One plate is around $10.
3.Delicious foods.I often visited the restaurant with Non-Chinese or non-Asian friends.Even they loved the foods.4.Very friendly servers. They are so helpful. 5.Very clean and nice atmosphere. It looks like Hong-Kong.
When you visit the Houston Asian town(Bellerire and Belt 8), I hope you enjoy this nice restaurant.

Ive been here once a few years back and thenI came here for a friends bday recently again.  I dont quite remember the first time but after coming here again i felt that i was a toodler.  We ordered a couple of dishes:

Appetizer of jelly fish, duck, cartilage and veggies: this dish was decent im not a huge fan of any of the above but it satisfied my stomach from growling any further.

Fried Scallop and Shrimp: when the dish came out i thought there was a mistake.  the plate they served it on looked like it was my a baby.  There were only a few pieces as well.  Seems like they are cheap with the portions i mean seriously the plate was so small.  Although the portion sucks the food came out perfectly crispy and fresh.  once you pop you just cant stop!

Crab fried Rice: my favorite dish of the night.  crab and its sauce put on top of the rice and steamed until the juices flow into the rice.  if you love crab meat and taste you have to get this dish.  simple amazing!

Bok Choy: Pass, vegetables are for girls!  Real men eat meat! :P

Walnut Shrimp (w/ mayonnaise): again, whats with the plates for the dishes? and the portions? I'm not picky but cmon seriously.  not too bad I've eaten this at a lot of different places.  might not be the best place to get this here but it simple doesn't disappoint either.

There were at least 2 more dishes i believe but i cant remember them right now.  Essentially the food was pretty decent but the portions... stop being cheap and give at least feed the hungry.  Price doesn't matter as long as i get fed well.  I'll give it a four star sole for the crab rice and the fried scallop/shrimp!

This restaurant has changed a lot since the last time I've been
They were blasting 95.7 music...I think new vibe is geared toward the younger population.  I think I just felt awkward listening to Rihanna's S&M with my parents

I've heard that they have lowered the prices,
but cheaper prices = smaller portions.

    Highlights:
    Salt and pepper pork ribs
    Seafood clay pot
    West lake beef soup

    Lows:
Shrimp seafood stew, the shrimp were old (black?!), bland
Clams, be careful of broken shells
    The pre-set meals

They have these TVs that play a slide show featuring menu items.  And those pictures make everything look so delicious and enticing...and then you get the real thing...disappointment

This place is great...An excellent family place that has very traditional meals and also safe choices...I had the dumplings (best I have had in houston) the soft shell crab with black pepper and butter, and combination fried rice....we had a party of 3 and this was plenty of food for 32 dollars....we also had hot tea...would have preferred a glass of wine, but it is a byob place (another plus and note to self for next time)   This strip center is amazing...it i full of life and a brand new amazing asian strip center....I went here on recommendation from a friend who grew up in China....If you are an american looking for a buffet this not your place....if you are looking for a place where true asian americans eat explore this entire strip center....I never realized how alive, safe and clean the Houston China town is...I will be here time and time again with my family...

Thank the heavens that the first restaurant I tried to eat at had closed their kitchen already so I would wander across the plaza and find this gem. If you've read my Arco review, you know that I'm not a huge fan of food in Chinatown. But I must admit that this place definitely satisfied my hankering for Cantonese food. I had no idea just how much I missed good HK-style food until I partook of this greatness. Now I have 2 solid choices of restaurants to help me get in touch with my food roots.

Stir-fried flat noodles w/beef: The dish that I have constantly been disappointed with at every other establishment I've ordered at. This version was not perfect, but was much closer to what I expect.

Crispy-skinned garlic chicken: So much more than just garlic chicken. I'm pretty sure they use 5-spice seasoning, so some parts of this taste like duck (prepared my favorite way - with 5-spice). Delicious.

Fish soup with tofu and century egg: Just what I needed. A light, refreshing, healthy tasting soup (though perhaps a little heavy on the salt and pepper). With good quality ingredients too! If you haven't tried a century egg before, you need to change that ASAP. Disclaimer: you must be adventurous!

Service was amazingly polite and attentive (perhaps it was because we were one of 3 tables eating at 10:30 pm?). Way and by far the best service I've received in Chinatown. Food came out fast and hot. Portions were large and I stuffed myself silly. Decor was also above average for the area.

Overall: Fab food, fab service. What are you waiting for?

East Wall is always at the top of my list of places to stuff my face whether it be seafood, soup, noodles or rice that I'm craving.   They have an expansive menu, but dishes that always show up at our table are:  Stir-fried flat noodles w/beef, walnut shrimp, salted pork and the twin cooked fish (combo of fried and sauteed fish with veggies; slightly salty, but that's the way I like it!).   Service is great but it may be because we typically choose to avoid the dinnertime crowd.  My iced tea is never close to being  empty and the staff are very friendly.  I am still sad that my go-to Chinese restaurant, Jade Village, closed down, but this will do just fine as a close substitute.

It's hard to find a place that has really good, fresh seafood, authentic Chinese flavors, and not overly salted or filled with MSG dishes in Chinatown. East Well is a great addition and I'm so excited that we decided to give them a try.

We ordered the Crab with Ginger and Onion. WOW! I was blown away by the freshness and sweet tasting meat. I haven't had crab that tasted this good in a LOOOOONG time! It was so good that I couldn't stop eating! I must have eaten 1/2 the crab by myself.

We also ordered a fried tofu dish as well as bokchoy sauteed with garlic. I don't think I will be ordering the fried tofu again as it wasn't anything spectacular. The veggie dish was nice sauteed and not overly salted which was a nice refreshing contrast to the rich crab meat.

Overall, it was an absolutely delicious meal. This is my new favorite Chinese restaurant in the Chinatown area.

I think this place spent too much time on their decor and not enough on the food itself. Snazzy bar in back, abundant flat screens, and what appeared to be a karaoke setup. If it wanted to be a lounge-type place, ok, not bad at all. But its a restaurant, and the food is average at best. A group of us tried around 8-10 dishes, all totally unremarkable, except for the Peking Duck, and not in a good way. We ordered Peking duck, not peking duck skin. There was hardly any meat at all. It was such a sad sight to see everyone's face drop when the dish was placed before us. At  the very least, don't hide all the meat beneath the skin; it'll make the dish look marginally better. They'll need to step up their food game before I come back.

I don't know why this restaurant always gets overlooked for other Chinese restuarants in town.  They provide great service with an almost too good to be true cheery waitstaff and they serve really solid HK style dishes.  After you eat at this place, there's really no good reason to go back to Hong Kong Food Street.

    Some standouts:
    - Choose 2 Combination Meat Dish: We chose Jellyfish and BBQ Pork
    - The ever so popular Mayonnaise Shrimp with Roasted Walnuts
    - Pee-pah (Pinyin for Loquat) Tofu

It's a little on the pricier side (compared to FuFu Cafe), more comparable to Sinh Sinh's prices but I feel like the portions are bigger and their menu is pretty extensive.  Not to mention how nice it was have to have a friendly staff and nice eating ambiance.  Haha, they played the Best of KennyG on loop.

Oh, and don't skip dessert.  They offer delicious Mango Ice Cream/Sorbet in half of a frozen mango and Pineapple Ice Cream in a half of a frozen pineapple.  :D  Nice touch.

My search has ended... this is my FAVORITE Chinese food in all of Houston.  Period.

Friday night... we finally find parking (the lot is busy!).  We get one of the last tables in this busy restaurant.  The place is definitely set up for large groups.  Almost every table is set up for 8+ people.  Even in a busy restaurant, our service was quick and friendly.  We asked for recommendations...

Our food was spectacular!  We ordered the chicken egg rolls.  You get 3 in the serving. They were delicious!!  The sweet and sour pork was the BEST I've ever had!!!  Check out my reviews, I rarely if ever say that.  It isn't heavily breaded, it's lightly fried and in the perfect sweet and sour sauce (see photo).  It took willpower to not go back again the next night for the same meal!  We also had chicken fried rice which was huge and tasty! Everything was perfect and delicious!  The food came out super fast.

My only gripe was that sodas come in cans and they are $2.50 each.  We each had two sodas and therefore spent $10 on sodas for dinner?!

The interior is nice.  There are large tables everywhere.  There are some large fish tanks in the back and a couple of different TVs so you can catch a sports game if you'd like. There is a large screen and LCD projector that shows the specials of the day.  While we were there, the projector started to show a basketball game.

We'll be back often and we'll be bringing friends and family with us! This is my all-time favorite Chinese Restaurant!  Go!  You won't be sorry!

Good food. Even something as simple as a stir-fried beef sirloin (it had a bit of broccoli, onion, and bell pepper) was completely GONE in no time. Had the Golden Crispy Tofu, which is tofu fried in a batter made with salted egg. Kind of weird but if you like salted egg...

The waitress suggested pea shoots but half of them were kind of old. Other than that, the dishes we had were great! Portions were a bit on the small side, though.

We came on Christmas and they had this one Christmas medley remix on infinite loop. Between each song in the medley, it was Feliz Navidad - seriously every 30 seconds we were hearing: "I WANNA WISH  YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS, I WANNA WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS, I WANNA WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAART!"

    Not good for my sanity...

Came here for dinner with the family.  We were actually very satisfied with the food and service.  It's not typical to get good service in Chinese restaurants, this is one of the few.  Water is constantly filled, and it's in a nice glass with ice, rather than most plastic cups you get in other places.  All the dishes we had were very good, specially the steamed fish with scallions and soy sauce.  Another favorite was the salt and pepper chicken.  Usually we order the salt and pepper pork, and the chicken was also a very tasty version.  Prices are higher than your average restaurant in this area, but you can definitely see the difference in quality, service, and even space.  Nice, clean, and decently new looking.  Great for big group dinners.

Ohh Hong Kong, how I miss thee!!!  After spending six months in Hong Kong I am always craving some authentic Cantonese food.  So, when some of my friends from HK recommended this place I was running to Bellaire for a meal.

I was not disappointed.  This place is best enjoyed eating family style with a big lazy susan in the middle of the table.  I went with my friends family and they just ordered a ton of food.  We started with a tufu and seafood soup, which was creamy and delicious.  I was about to go back for seconds, when the rest of our food started arriving.  My favorite were the hot pots, which were loaded with veggies, shrimp, fish balls, and lots of other ingredients (they were a flavor explosion in my mouth).

The service was also fantastic, ever time my water glass was empty they were there to fill it up.  Also, we never had a long wait for food.  It was always brought out piping hot!  I was very impressed and will definitely be back for more!

I went here  today and got the lunch combo special.  I was duly impressed.  The food was flavorful and fresh and the portions were big.  I couldn't finish everything.  It was 7.80 for a large bowl of soup, rice, two spring rolls, and entree.  Awesome place with great service and great prices, I'll be back.

(They even have a wall sized aquarium where you can watch the naive marine ingredients frolic before you order.)

Ah yes, I finally found a restaurant that only serves authentic Hong Kong Cantonese food!  I have been here with friends and by myself and I have always enjoyed the meal here.  They have a great lunch special.

Yes they have marinated jelly fish here and they make it right, unlike some places.

They also have large aquariums for their seafood so you can have fresh seafood.

This is the only few places I know that can make Pei Pa Tofu.  Pei Pa Tofu is a special Cantonese dish of stuffed fried tofu with shrimp and a special sauce.

You gotta try this place if you want to try superb Hong Kong Cantonese food!

Excellent portions, great service, nice plating for not a high end restaurant.  I have tried many of their dishes and all are very good.  Their friend items are not chinese buffet fried, they are done with light breading.  Portions are generous.  Hot and sour soup is excellent.

I have lived on and off in Houston for close to 15 years and embarrasingly enough have NEVER been to China town....(horrible I know!)  This past Saturday one of my meetup groups decided to head to East Wall Chinese restaurant and check out some Authentic Chinese food.  The place is easy to find, right off Bellaire Blvd, in a HUGE shopping center.  It holds a medium sized dining area, with extensive menu in English/Chinese  We had about 20 of us, and ended up sharing a bunch of different dishes.  The Princess Chicken, sizzling beef (AMAZING!) chicken and sausage fried rice, fried tofu---(will change your life!) some awesome broccoli, and other yummy treats.  This place really made me change the way I view Chinese food.  The service was QUICK, green tea was perfect, and prices are super reasonable. Also, after taking a peek in the lobster tank, the next time I come back I will without a doubt grab one of those babies--they were as big as any live lobster I have seen!   The next day you are out and about in China town, stop in for some really tasty food!

When this place first opened, there was always a huge line for dinner on the weekends. I came here with my family a few times and the food was pretty good.

But since then, the quality and portion size of the dishes have gone dramatically downhill. We returned here recently on a Friday night and there was hardly anyone there. The food took a long time, and the flavors were not as good as they were before. You can definitely find better restaurants elsewhere in Chinatown.

Still quite the solid Chinese restaurant in town... they have good food and good service.  Their Peking duck is pretty darn good and I still love their walnut shrimp.  We love getting everything family style on the rotating lazy susan so that everyone can share the food.  Yummyness indeed.

Very good. A great place to impress your friends and family, with not only a fun ambiance, but excellent food, and service.

This is a really good Chinese restaurant. If you like deep fried things get salt toasted spare ribs or squid- so good!

Talk about 5 star service, the service is fast, reliable, and friendly. The food is great and the price is moderately inexpensive. East Wall is definitely a family oriented restaurant with tables meant to seat 4 or more. The decor is authentically chinese however there are four flat screen tv's around the restaurant to ensure you don't miss your favorite game on ESPN. When we first got to East Wall there was a line but the wait wasn't too long, the perks of being a regular, we were seated first. Upon ordering our dishes all came out at once steaming hot roughly 10 minutes after. The deliver and execution of customer service combined with great cooking was outstanding considering the restaurant was jammed packed. The staff wouldn't allow our rice pot tea and water to go empty which is one of my biggest pet peeves while dining out. I can't stand that I have to send a detective out to search for my waiter to refill my water, however there are no worries here.

I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants an authentic taste of chinese cooking however there is a minor flaw to East Wall. As elegant as this restaurant is, their choices of wine are quite slim. I believe you have a choice of cabernet sauvignon red, or a chardonay white. Overall a wonderful experience, thanks for reading.
    Cheers,

Sorry to said, but this place had went down hill.  I was there with my family this past Sunday and ordered one of their family special.  Everything tasted so horrible...the only thing that worth mentioned is the chicken plate...the rest of them are so mediocre!  Don't even mention the price.  For the price we paid, is over $20 a plate.  This is so ridiculous for the quality they presented.  This is probably the last time we will go to this place.

Great place to go for some family style authentic Chinese food. The braised beef hot pot was full of flavor and they had fried tofu in some type of interesting sauce that was so delicious. The iced milk tea was a little watered down and not sweet enough which was a major disappointment. They have so many dishes to choose from and the portions are huge. If you daring try the fried angelfish, it was so yummy! The entire family gobbled it up. Service was average but that is to be expected. I will definitely go back when I am in town again.

Good seafood dishes, very authentic Cantonese cuisine. A bit on the pricey side for Houston, lunch is a better bargain. Better to dine with a larger group to try more dishes and split the cost.

I love this place. The menu is very extensive and almost everything I have ordered was great. My favorite would be the pork belly over preserved vegetables. So soft, so unctuous and just pretty much awesome. Huge portions so everytime we come here we have food for the next day. This is probably the best restaurant in the Dun Huang Plaza!!!
