Small place run by friendly people, pretty decent selection of frames (I don't really look because I always buy mine at the Alain Mikli sample sales.)

Usually no appointment necessary

Fast-turn around time on orders--with a call to let you know they're in (unlike Sol Moscot which has made me wait weeks for orders that were supposed to take 5 days, max)

Big Plus--No "air blast on your eyeballs" test which is as terrifying as a dentist's drill for me.

Inexpensive

Note: The eye doctor there has a really breathy voice, much like the voice-over on the bed bug ad that runs non-stop on NY1.  I mention it only because, for whatever reason, I was amused by this and almost laughed out loud during the exam when he was close enough to tongue-wrestle me. Having just had a smoke and an Americano before my exam I found myself wishing I'd had a Tic Tac (or ten). Don't do like I did--pack some mints.

Go before you go--they'll let you use the bathroom but it's really just a closet with a sliding door--it may as well be a toilet in the middle of the reception area.  (Only matters if you're shy about such things.)

i have been to both stores in the east village and have found one store to be edgier and hip than the other one. One store was brutally honest with me and in the long run they were right . I guess you can't please everyone.I'm not gonna say which one i finally purchased with but lets say the guy with the tats knows his stuff and is very helpful.

The girl that works here seems to rush for no reason.
They accept a variety of insurances.
Very small selection of glasses but my pair was free so no complaints.

The staff at this establishment are very friendly and helpful. Definitely a lot nicer than the people up the street at Manhattan Eye Works. I thought the selection of glasses was pretty comparable to most vision centers, and better priced too. I ordered a pair of glasses from a catalog, and all of the total processing only took around 2 weeks. I have VSP so I only paid around $200 out of pocket. I recommend for anyone who needs new glasses.

very friendly service. Dr. Dorfman is pleasant and capable. When I visited his office about a year and a half ago, he corrected a mistake in my lenses that my previous doctor had made. I went back recently when I lost my glasses and the service was still the same and the doctor saw me even though I didn't have an appointment. Good times.
