Review from Paul V.
TL;DR: This is hands-down my favorite breakfast location in the Calabasas/Agoura/Westlake/Oaks bubble.
As it's without a doubt my favorite dish, I've recently been on a quest to find the best breakfast burrito in the Agoura Hills area. As a result, combined with the fact that I'd written bagels off as something that only the East Coast of the United States can properly pull off, I hadn't even thought of visiting a bagel shop until today when I had a sunrise meeting in Westlake Village.
Star 1 - How was the service and atmosphere?
Wow. Quick, name a place that has a line very literally out the door at 08:00... Stumped? Try this one, name a place that, with a line out the door, still has a friendly, upbeat staff who will remember your name, and, if you're local, your most frequent order as well. This is what greeted me when I visited East Coast Bagel, and it was absolutely marvelous. Decorated as though it's fresh out of a proper college town, East Coast Bagel provides an atmosphere unlike any I've ever seen. The staff are amazing, the service fast but attentive, and the "out-the-door" line completely understandable. Star Granted.
Star 2 - How were the portions relative to the cost?
After being truly worn out by the overwhelming selection of freshly baked bagels, I opted to go with a "Beggle", consisting of a two-egg omelet served between two bagel halves. Ringing in at under $5 after tax, I was thrilled to see that the sandwich was more than enough for a proper breakfast. Star Granted:

Stars 3/4 - How was the food?
Like I said, I've often been more of a breakfast burrito guy than someone who goes for bagels, but my Beggle Sandiwch on an unmatchable garlic bagel with pepper jack cheese might have just converted me. Overall, my sandwich was fantastic and while it was 08:00 in the morning and even a bit chilly outside, the experience brightened my day tenfold. Dual Stars Granted.
Star 5 - Would you eat it every day if you could?
Absolutely. There are so many different options that I've left unturned! East Coast Bagel provides excellent food for excellent prices in an atmosphere that is absolutely unmatched. This is now without a doubt my favorite breakfast location in the area. Consider me a bagel guy. Star Granted. -

This place is great. They have all the standard bagels you could want, but what is really special about this place is their sandwiches. I had a chicken, basil and avocado sandwich on an onion bagel. After 20 seconds of searching for the right adjective to describe my assessment of the sandwich, I have decided on bomb-diggity. Definitely a good place to grab a cheap bite.

The beg gels are so delicious. This boy named Michael that works there is so handsome too and he makes the best bagels! Can't wait to go back!

The only reason I didn't give this one star is because the bagels are pretty good and the staff is pretty nice and helpful. The lady who is the manager i'm pretty sure is horrible. I asked her what the price of the cream cheeses were and her response was "it's written on the fridge." I'm in customer service and I know how annoying dumb questions are, so normally this wouldn't bother me. But she had a big grump face when she said it, and that ain't cool. If you wanna make someone feel dumb and least look happy while you're doing it. She's grumpy almost every time I see her there.

Just have to tell you that I love this place. I used to come here and get the same thing every day for years...3 years later and they still remember me. Amazing local staff that makes a pro sandwich in under 3 minutes. 5 stars.

Their East Coast Bagel is amazing! Daniel is the best, he always greets you by name even when you haven't been in for a while. My kids love it. Not sure which is my favorite bagel shop, East Coast or Western. I think I will declare it a tie.

Delicious bagels with great service! Who could ask for more?! Our office orders from there about once a month, so I've gotten to be somewhat of a regular. I love the spicy jalapeno beggel, which is a jalapeno omelet on a bagel of your choice with cheese. Their everything bagels are delish; an everything bagel must have salt (some don't). And, their coffee is good too! You can't go wrong at East Coast Bagel!

Best bagels around anywhere. Yes, it IS East Coast style, btw. They are the best...trust me, I was born on the East Coast and grew up eating REAL bagels, not the Noah's style air-fluffed ginormous bagels without flavor...noooooo. I like my bagels authentic and this folks is the real thing.

#100, here we go...
I used to stop here every morning before work for the same thing: 2 chocolate chip bagels and a jug of milk. I would have the milk in my hand, walk up to the counter and order my bagels, the girl would bag them and Id be on my way. Simple, right?
I did this for weeks. Never a problem, but then, how many can you run into when there's only one step?
The day I decide to get something even one step greater than the norm, all hell breaks loose. I figure it's a fluke. I love the bagels so I forgive and forget. Bad Idea.
A short time later, I bring Heather and her sister over for some bagels. This time, the girl behind the counter didn't feel the need to wear a glove and/or wash her hands between handling the money and grabbing a bagel. When we said something, she decided to insult *my* girls.
That's it! Thanks very much, but get fucked. You lost your regular customer. Your bagels are tasty, but not impossible to replace and I will not and cannot stand by and see that shit go on.
So, word to the wise, if you're looking for a bagel with bitch flavored creme cheese..Listed in: Escape From LA

Really a great way to start the morning. Bagels are good as are their spreads.. The service adds so much flavor to the food with the great atmosphere they create. Great people making good food...

I've been a regular customer here for over 10 years, and it's always been convenient and the quality is fine. However it just goes to show you how making one mistake with a regular customer will lose you business.
This morning I went in to order a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast and when I presented my credit card for the $2.70 bill was told "I'm sorry we have a $3 minimum for credit cards." "Really?" I said. "Yes." was the reply. So I said "Forget it." and went to Starbucks instead.
Aside from it being a violation of their contract with MasterCard to set a minimum purchase amount, it is just rude to the customer. What does it really cost them to take a one time charge that's $0.30 below their minimum for a customer who has spent hundreds of dollars over the last decade? Answer: my future business, a report to MasterCard, and this write up on Yelp. -

I always stop at East Coast Bagel when I go home to pick up breakfast!! Even living in LA I haven't found a decent bagel shop that compares to East Coast Bagel. The decor of all the college banners of past workers takes me back to when my friends worked there in high school. Definitely an amazing local bagel shop.
If you're a salt lover..try their salt bagel! Its amazing. -

I get upset when I ask someone to toast my bagel and all it seems like they did was toast it for 3 seconds. I want it a little crispy, warm, yummy. So that would be my main complaint. Also the bagels are a little small compared to other places.
I do appreciate that they cut it in half so that there are 4 pieces because some places don't do that. Overall I would say they are average -

East Coast is a great place for a bagel (and yes, their coffee is good). Look around, this is the closest you'll get to an east coast bagel. Enjoy!

I used to always go to Noah's but East Coast is much closer for me, and I've grown to love their bagels. Lot's of different kinds to choose from and nice and fresh.
I like my bagels toasted pretty dark though, so I have to ask for a "dark toast."
The outdoor seating here is nicer than the inside, because it can feel close sometimes.
Bottom line, the prices are reasonable, and it's nice when you want to pick up breakfast. I think they're open for lunch too with bagel sandwiches and pizzas. -

I visit ECB every time I come to LA. I love the pizza bagels and oatmeal. They also have a Turkey melt with avocado and cheese that I really enjoy. The locals seem to love it. The owner works incredibly hard, and it shows. I will be back for sure!

Ok so it's not that bad, I ate my bagel and it tasted fine. I was a little upset that it was 100% cold when I requested it be toasted. They must have toasted it for a very short amount of time. Other than that I thought it was very funny that they say your name a lot and try and memorize it so they can greet regular customers, kind of like friendly brainwashing. But when I asked if I could add a coffee to my order, the guy who handed me my bagel kind of grunted and pointed at a co-worker. So I stood there like a jackass for about 3 minutes while the grunty man ignored me and chatted to the friend he pointed at until I felt too silly to keep standing there waiting to order coffee so I just left. But yes I still ate my bagel and would probably go again if I was nearby and craving bagels.

The bagels are pretty bland... I usually get the spinach parmesan rich is bland, or the sourdough which is also pretty bland. Ive tried there other stuff and it is just as bland too. EXCEPT for the apple cinnamon which is delisions! However one time i was there i had a little problem.
the owner is really rude and bossy, plus she is always to seem to be in a bad mood. I order a spinach parmesan bagel with only lox(yes i know this is a weird cobatnation) but when i got it, it had lox and cream cheese. I told them after receiving my bagel that i only wanted lox, and no cream cheese. The owner erupted with anger, and frightned me. She said that i need to be specific and say that i did not wantcream cheese. I assumed that when i said ONLY lox they would ONLY put on lox. Apearently I was wrong...
The only reason I keep on going back is because it is the only bagel place near my house. However if you are in westlake and want some tastey jew foodi definatly recomend trying out Brents. -

I went here with my friends for lunch almost 3 times a week last year. The bagels always tasted good.. BUT their staff is full of IDIOTS. Unless the manager is serving you, you will get a messed up order. I like my butter very slightly slathered, but the people put like 6 tablespoons of butter on each bagel. So I started asking for the butter on the side, but the workers would disregard that so many times... really got on my nerves. The prices are pretty fair, but I think they recently raised them.
I would recommend this place to pick up bagels for breakfast... but if you are in a rush, and are picky about you order, don't expect much from their incompetent, slow staff. -

I'm not a happy customer.
I went in for a bagel today and while I watched one of the girls (blonde, long hair - possibly shift manager?) was sweeping and picked up the rubber mat off the floor in front of the area where they prepare the bagels. I watched her sweep and clean and put the mat back down. There were 2 other employees that prepare food watching and one of them picked up one end of the mat too. I was closely watching my bagel because I was in a big hurry and I wanted to see who was going to touch it. I watched the 2 other food preparers wash their hands before returning to work and the blonde woman proceed to NOT WASH HER HANDS and touch all of the coffee pots and the register and reach into the bagel case with a paper and pick up 2 bagels for someone. I said something to her that she should wash her hands and she proceeded to argue with me that she hadn't touched any food. I said I just saw you pick up 2 bagels and I'm glad you didn't touch my bagel or I wouldn't eat it. She had contaminated the cash register, coffee pots and everything else she touched. If you want to take it further any employees touching these items after her might as well have touched the dirty floor mat like she did. She argued with me and STILL DIDN'T WASH HER HANDS.
During another visit there I observed as a customer accidentally took another customers sandwich outside the store to his car and then returned with it a couple of minutes later when he realised his mistake. The person waiting for the sandwich noticed what was going on and saw what happened. They wanted to just hand off the bag with the sandwich in it without checking it or anything. The original customer said he didn't want it and to make him a new one. When they took the returned sandwich they only changed the bagel and left the meat to be reused again. He refused to take the "redone" sandwich and I don't blame him. The owner? manager? was very rude and nasty to him.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Been here many, many times. Kinda surprised to read the negative reviews. This place has always been consistenly good. Bagels are good and service is good. Sometimes there might be a young kid working the register who is not totally up on their customer service but I don't get all worked up about it.
