I love this place. I recently finished taking a Buddhist philosophy class--offered for dana / donation, which is awesome!--and I really enjoyed the community of folks that has been drawn to that place. A very down-to-earth, diverse (in terms of age, race, etc.) and warm spiritual community. I'm so glad I found this place and this sangha.

This place makes me glow.

While Berkeley and SF are wonderful places full of dedicated and kind practitioners, there's "no place like home" to join a spiritual community. To live in Oakland and practice in Oakland at an Oakland embracing sangha is a dream come true.

Both the day long retreats and evening sits provide connection, guidance, and inclusion, as well as a place to learn and grow in my practice. The instructors offer such a range of style, presence, and knowledge. And the space is calm and welcoming.

EBMC operates entirely on the practice of dana (generosity and donations), making all classes accessible to all members of the community. It is a privilege and wonder to be a part of such an innovative, open, and caring community.

I'll see you there, darlings!

Five stars for a beautiful, inclusive and comfortable space. I'm looking forward to the next few weeks of my Four Foundations of Mindfulness class here. I also understand they hold all types of different classes for different types of folks (people of color, LGBT, etc), which is very cool!

I was looking for a place to learn about meditation, and was amazed  to find this place in downtown Oakland! What a lovely and welcoming space it is, and with a really nice community of meditators from various buddhist traditions. They're very intentionally focused on being inclusive of everyone, and the diversity of people there actually reflects the real diversity of Oakland. Lots of racial diversity and many queers. Hooray! If you live in Oakland and want to meditate, this place is really worth checking out.

Oh, and it is worth noting that this place is 100% wheelchair accessible. No stairs anywhere, and the bathrooms are nearly as big as my bedroom.  Also, street parking is plentiful during the hours this place is generally open (evenings and weekends).

Fat-friendly rating: 5 stars!

Fantastic, welcoming and inclusive space! I very much enjoyed the four week series of meditation classes that I took at EBMC.  And the pricetag based on the practice of dana ensures that all classes truly are open to everyone.
