I'm not one to write reviews on yelp. I've done it less than a handful of times. But I had such an amazing pregnancy massage at Earthbody with Rebecca that I had to show she and Earthbody the respect they deserved.
As you first walk into Earthbody, the place is extremely zen and relaxing despite being on the busy street of Laguna. You couldn't not feel relaxed. After having some tea and a warm towel, I was led back to start my massage with Rebecca. Pregnancy massages are different and not my favorite but Rebecca sure changed my mind. She was very aware of my comfort and made sure that her pressure was good for me. She definitely worked out major knots I had and helped my pregnant body relax.
I will definitely go back and definitely ask for Rebecca. It as an amazing experience. -

I loved EarthBody. Before I discovered it was a fancy front for a burgeoning cult. And they cancelled my membership.
You will get a great massage. No question. They will take you over the moon, and back. Your integration back into the world will go smoother with $10 glasses of herbal tea. Just don't be surprised when they try to sell you something else, too. Like an annual membership. Or a private "life-coaching" session to reach "the core" of your wounds and help you cultivate the gardens of your being.

I will absolutely be coming back to this little oasis in the city. I was worried about parking but found street parking 2 blocks up on a Sunday afternoon.
I had Emma as my masseuse - she was lovely. She was in tune with how your body reacted as she worked through every muscle. She explained why things felt the way they did, the importance of that feeling & always instructed me to breathe deep and "melt into the bed".
This was a lovely experience & I would recommend it. -

I came here last week to use a gift certificate that my hubby got me on my birthday and I must say that it was one of my BEST experience. This was my first visit at Earthbody and I got there a little early than my scheduled session because parking in Hayes Valley can be a little challenging. 2-hr street parking are available but do pay attention on the street signs.
I got there and filled out a form to start the process, then I was met by Rebecca who was my therapist for the next 1.5hrs. I scheduled myself for their WARM EARTH ritual which calms nerves, supports deep sleep and grounds oneself.
If you look at the "recipe" that comes with this type of therapy. The entire session involves a lot of body oil (more than what's used during a regular body massage). The body oil they used sure works wonders on the skin during the cold weather.
What was new to me were the basalt hot stones. I never had them but Rebecca asked me if it was too hot and she'll make the necessary adjustments to the heat of the stones. After awhile, I was able to adjust to the stone's temperature and you get used to it. The entire process includes a very relaxing massage that I think I fell asleep a couple of times and heard myself snore.
Towards the end of the session, she poured some hot oil on my scalp and massage it (and boy do I like a good scalp massage). The facial acupressure was also good especially for someone with TMJ problems.
After my session, she met me outside and offered me a sample plate of candies, hot tea and water. I was so relaxed that I decided to spend another15-20mins in their lounge before I decided to get in my car and drive.
While I was in their lounge, I also checked out their products and bought a few items for my personal use. Their products as indicated is all organic, natural and not created in a laboratory.
Overall, I love and enjoyed my time at this place. I am a big believer on taking care of oneself and I have tried a few places in the past. Earthbody seems to really take it to the next step and I highly encourage to check them and try out any one of their many services. I'm confident it will be worth your time and if you're impressed by their body work, memberships are available.

I am happy to vouch that this place is great. I have been to spas all over the world, and I really liked my experience here.
I think a lot of hospitality experiences are really influenced by the first 10 minutes (checking in to a hotel is like this), and my entry here was great. It's in a really cute neighborhood, with a cool shop next door. I walked in like 20 minutes early, which was a actually a happy accident. I ended up reading a book about Ghandi, drank my little hibiscus tea that they brought me, and just tried to just surrender to the experience. If you go, my advice is to turn off your phone, turn off your irony switch, and just get into it, and give yourself some time.
My therapist Heather was AWESOME.
I totally, totally know the heartache of a massage not being strong enough, of a treatment being ok but not great, and you just sit there thinking of stuff you would have rather spent the money on. But this was not one of those massages!!! It was that perfect combination of theraputic - the kind that hurts a tiny bit and makes you feel sore the next day - and the feel-good kind that makes you go ahhhhhh.
I can't vouch for the other therapists, but If you book a 90-minute deep tissue with Heather (it's called a "Repattern" in their lingo), I promise, you won't be disappointed!
And yes, they use massage oil, which I was fine with. Just roll in in your sweats and your puffy coat, and you'll roll out all happy and mellow... -

I heart Earthbody!
The first time I heard of Earthbody was from a bloomspot promotion. Based on my Yelp research and the excellent reviews I found, I went ahead and purchased the offer for the "warm earth" ritual.
The ambience is very relaxing and feels more zen-like than spa-like. When you sit down, they offer you delicious tea, and water. This was all nice enough, but I had no idea of what I was about to experience - the most blissful treatment of my life (seriously, and I've had a lot of massages).
My amazing experience prompted me to purchase a monthly membership. This entails a monthly massage appointment for a discounted rate. My therapist is Ashely, who is consistently incredible. She listens very carefully, and is very talented - both of which are very well reflected within the treatment.
Earthbody is the best thing I've done for myself in a long time! If you're thinking about it, GO! I have never been so consistently relaxed and centered - thank you, Earthbody. Countdown is on until my next monthly treatment ;) -

Asa former massage therapist, I can be very picky about the quality of spa treatments out there. I've been to Earthbody twice now and thoroughly enjoyed the experience both times. The Warm Earth treatment was like traveling to somewhere wonderful and exotic - all my senses were fully immersed in the experience. I loved the scents and oils and music (which so often can be cheesy and annoying in other places). I was also keenly aware of how quiet it was in the hallway so that I wasn't distracted by anything.
I love how they give you tea and an assortment of snacks when you're done. I picked up some of their in-house made products and look forward to using and gifting them.
All in all, 5 stars - thank you, Earthbody! -

Hubby and I received a couples massage gift certificate as an engagement gift, and it came in really handy the week before the wedding to help ease the stress.
Our massage was in the same room, and our therapists were very accommodating and attentive. The space is beautiful and I enjoyed the 'post' massage tea and tasty tid-bits.
My only 'not-so-positive' comment: this was the most uncomfortable deep tissue massage I have ever experienced. I'm not sure if my result was due to all the stress I was carrying from planning a wedding, but I was in pain for 3 days after my massage =( -

From the moment I walked in until I left every detail around me was well thought out for the optimal rejuvenating experience. I received the "Enlightenment Package" facial and massage from Adriene. She was awesome!! She also did my brow wax and was a total pro at each treatment. The whole thing flowed together and I left floating on a cloud of bliss. Definitely go if you can! The products were deliciously natural. I would recommend Earthbody highly!!

I have been torn about this one.... The owner wrote me defending their "space" which I wrote is fabulous, and, advertising their packages which I wrote were fabulous--so I clearly already knew about them. She did not address the therapist issues though- Anyone? Anyone?
The clarification--if in fact it was ever achieved, was an existential drawn out back and forth that has led me to decide to write about it and say that I don't plan on going back. Enough processing the obvious already. People only get what they are open to when they are open to it. To me, somewhat closet narcissistic therapists who need more development (as we all likely do for various reasons related to just basic growth in general) is the issue. Do I have to be more blunt than that? So...there it is.
I gave the owner my earnest thoughts and recommendations for improvements (based on solid experience and hopes for her success) and wished the sincerest "best for development" moving forward. The owner seems really talented and committed to the growth of her business--which is awesome...and I believe she will do it successfully. I, however, need to go to the hot springs to get the "ick" off!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I recieved a gift card from a friend for the enlightment package ($180+ a $40 tip for a one hour body massage and 45 minute facial)
When i tried to redeem my gift certificate they gave me problems making a reservation then also cut time short on my massage (even if it was 5 minutes, how lame is that?) they wouldnt reserve the facial because the esthitician wasnt avaliable that same time, ok fine.
But then.. they wanted to keep all of the extra $ in the gift certificate as gratuitiy? Ok are you kidding me? a 99$ massage and $121 tip? You people sure do know how to dupe people.
Luckily I talked to the receptionist over and over and they let me split the certificate.
The quality of the massage wasn't so great either. I would rather go down to chinatown for $20 foot massage, it would've been more worth it. I had the guy Eric giving me a massage, and I had came in with major muscle pain. The massage was no help at all.
I tried to rebook the facial months later and had problems with that too. As I booked the facial i found out 5 minutes later I had to cancel. I called them back and they wanted a 24 hour notice to canceling. WTH? I just booked it literally less than 5 minutes ago? I asked if I could still come in at a later time, I would pay the extra appointment termination fee.. whatever, I was in town and drove 6 hours away for biz and this facial and wouldn't be in town for a while, so I jjust wanted to get this gift certificate used.
The lady on the phone kept telling me.. "IDK i can't tell you anything I need my manager to be here to tell you how much the termination fee is going to cost? I can't rebook your appointment for a later time.. I can't do anything now... blah blah blah "
It was just way too much of a headache for a damn facial. She told me the manager would call me back, never got a call and now I'm just pretty upset. I would never do business here agian.
I have no idea why the reviews are so great on here... the quality of the massage isn't that great. *sigh -

My experience with Earthbody was truly exceptional!
I've been following Adriene for about 5 years now and was excited to learn that she had started at Earthbody - I immediately booked a facial with a Ground Massage. I know what to expect with Adriene - she is professional, experienced, and has a natural ability to heal with her touch, she is amazing... so when I walked into Earthbody, it didn't surprise me to find a welcoming, serene, and warm space. Within 10 minutes of being there, I could feel myself melting into the surroundings.
Of course, with Adriene handling my treatments, I was all blissed out with my body vibrating afterwards ~ adding the little treats (nuts, tea, and candied ginger)at the end was just icing on the cake. -

What comes to your mind when you picture your perfect spa appointment? From now on, for me, it'll be Earthbody. I'm so glad I bought this Groupon!
When you walk in it feels warm, smells like sandalwood, and you feel transported into a state of perfect comfort and relaxation. The atmosphere is fantastic. As soon as I opened the door into the lobby I felt like everything else in the world vanished. The decor is eastern but not cheesy, comfortable.
The reception is set up nicely - you sit on a stool behind a screen while the receptionist confirms your appointment, and asks you how you're feeling. The privacy of sitting with her as opposed to announcing yourself to the whole room was a very nice touch. Then you'll be offered a glass of spa water (or tea!) to drink while you fill out a form about your body and your current physical and emotional needs. Holistic approach indeed!
My appointment was with Emma and we did the Infinite Sky body ritual. Emma reviewed my form with me, asked me professional and compassionate questions. She explained the ritual to me and what I would experience during it - knowing what to expect helped me relax a little more, instead of being aware and wondering what was coming next :-). The ritual was so soothing that I almost fell asleep, that never happens to me.
The finishing touch was waiting for me in the lobby after my 90 minutes of bliss. Emma had set up a glass of water, a little dish full of nuts and dried fruit, and sat with me to go over what she'd learned during the ritual while I had a snack. We talked about my experience and where I could do work on my own.
I. Love. This. Place. I'll be saving my pennies to make sure I can come back again. Thanks Emma! -

Yo, this is the good shit. ;)
I had heard fabulous things about this place from a friend of mine, and so when they offered a Groupon (http://www.groupon.com...), I purchased the "Warm Earth" ritual.
Their location is in an beautiful old flat, which smells lovely and is very nicely appointed. It's warm, relaxing, and the receptionist was super nice.
My massage therapist was Ashlee, and she was absolutely phenomenal. I get massages all the time, and she really took her time to make sure it was a very healing and restorative experience for me. In fact, the massage was so relaxing, I actually started dozing off here and there during the face down part (which has *never* happened before!). She was all up in my fascia and worked my knots likes no one's business. There were a few times during the massage where I was thinking: "This lady's skillz are reDONKulous!".
She spent time with me both before and after the ritual to talk about my body's aches/pains and to make recommendations about things I should consider to help with my neck and shoulders. I really appreciated that. I also really appreciated that that didn't cut into the actual massage time (yay!).
There was no sales pressure, and I booked my next massage on the way out.
I took the 5 Fulton home with what I'm sure were massage pillow creases imprinted on my face, smelling of patchouli (or whatever oil it was she put in my hair), and couldn't have been happier. :) -

For my birthday, I got 2 prenatal massages from my hubby. One of them was for Earthbody. I've never heard of this place, but was able to book my appointment for a repattern massage with Emma who specializes in ladies who are pregnant.
If you go during the week, parking isn't bad, I was able to find a spot across the street which was great because it was 2 hour parking so I didn't have to worry about feeding quarters in a meter.
The reception area is very zen, it looks like the place is in a home with multiple rooms, but very nicely decorated. They give you this special water which taste the same to me, but I can respect that it's from Japan.
The massage was the best 90 minute prenatal massage ever. Emma has the magic touch. Her pressure was perfect, I was always bummed when I needed to change positions because I knew the massage was going to end soon. Made it easy for me to navigate my belly from side to side and propped me up on a nice wedge at the end. I was relaxing!
Will totally go back to see her. -

For the price I was expecting a large facility with big money glitz. It turned out to be a very homey little part of a victorian house cum shop. They had well appointed silks here and there. They were very nice to accommodate me at the last moment and be mindful of my strange ass allergy.
Everything was very clean, with the exception of the Jute scrubs which are really cheap and I wish they disposed of them after each client. The wood foot tubs (if they are resin I apologize) are beautiful but you cant sterilize wood. Most folks that use wood foot tubs use stainless inserts to prevent bacteria. There was one patch of unpainted putty on the wall in the treatment room but only crazy people like me would notice it. But again for the fee I expect no little loving hands at home touches like that.
Honestly it was nice even NICE but not OH MY GOD I CANT WAIT TO DO THAT AGAIN. Nothing really stood out to me as exceptional. I received the Goddess treatment and for $360 I expected a little more exceptional something. The service was like a very nice long massage that wasn't really a massage, wasn't really a facial, and wasn't really a scrub. It was a very long rub down. To be fair my therapist did get into some of my bad knots but she said at the start that it wasn't really supposed to be a massage.. There was supposed to be a facial in there somewhere but it turned out to be a hot towel on my face and a few drops of oil and a light face massage. Maybe that's what it was supposed to be. Maybe I didn't understand what it was supposed to be. Honestly the website isn't very through with the explanation just a nice list of things that comes in the spa using names I wasn't familiar with.
I've been to big money spas and little strange mexican lean-tos. I felt I was paying big prices for a medium budget place.
I feel relaxed and fragrantly oily. I wished they had an on site shower to clean up after ward. The therapist was a very nice lady and the space was intimate but nice. It is a little odd to come out of a massge and stare at strangers. I am jadedly use to a "cool down" room where you back in your post glow and get yourself together before going back into the lobby but again this is a small space and they do the best they can. I like the little nut and berry snack afterward.
I'd like to suggest some ideas to the owner to make it a little more exceptional:
Have XXXL robes 50% of america is obese. You will have clients that appreciate the thought because no one else thinks of anyone over a size 10.
Ditch the chairs with arms. Again plus sized people can't fit in them
Turn your massage table so the 60 watt bulb in the alter nook isn't going into your eye and you get a nice view of the alter vs your window
Get an extra wide table. Again you'd be the first on your block.
The bamboo matts on your feet are not nice on your feet.
I would suggest you walk yourself through the whole massage from a client view. Lay on the table, get undressed, walk around barefoot (assuming you don't have super callused feet) cover yourself in oil and LIVE the customer experience from the view point of the client.
Install a shower. If you are worried about time limit it to only clients who are getting oily or put a timer on the water. There are ways to make it work.
Remind your working folk they can be heard from the lobby into the Spa rooms.
Give the big money clients a little lagniappe, more than a snack bowl and a cuppa. Maybe a 1/2 oz trial size of one of your products selected by the therapist for the client. It's not an up sell, just a gift. (though secretly it is an up sale and will get the client back for more). It costs very little to comp, is a tax write off, and your client walks away with something nice in their hand vs just a palm full of oil.
A very nice little diamond in the rough place that I think is still growing and just needs a little more polish. You can still be rustic yet refined. -

I love everything about Earthbody. They have you come a bit early to relax before your treatment. I enjoy the 10min of just relaxing before my massage actually begins. I've had Emma the past two times and I just LOVE her! She makes sure to check in with you before/during/ and after the massage to make sure you're getting everything you need out of the work. She was especially careful with my newly healed shoulder that I broke months earlier. She's MAGIC! After she even gave me some great pointers on things I can do at home to relieve muscle tension as my shoulder continues to heal. THANK YOU!!

I've only been to Earthbody once, but had an awesome experience! I had a massage with Heather and she was fantastic. I went for a pre-marathon massage and she did a great job with all my points of tension in preparation for the race.
Atmosphere is really relaxing and staff very friendly. If you're looking for a spa with all the amenities (sauna, gym, shower, etc.) this isn't the place. It has more the feel of an upscale yoga studio than a day spa.
I'll definitely go back! -

Wow. I just returned from a "Ground" massage at Earthbody and I'm on cloud 9! On my walk home, I ran into a friend who immediately asked where I was coming from - I was just glowing.
Atmosphere: I was greeted with calming (but not overwhelming) smells and a warm environment. The nuts and hibiscus tea afterward put the experience off the charts. A lot of classic zen decor but nothing ostentatious about it.
Massage: Wonderful! Wonderful! Emma was comforting and professional, very well trained in body work and treated me with such care. She was very conscious of why I wanted a massage and gave the pain hot spots extra attention. At the same time, she was sure give a well rounded relief to all tension.
I'm about as cheap as it gets, and this is well worth the expense. I'm considering one of their "bundles" to go back more frequently - it was such a lovely experience. -

If you are looking for a massage that will really leave you feeling so relaxed this IS the place you want to go to. From the moment you step in you will feel warm and relaxed. It smells so good and feels so cozy you are already on your way to relaxation before your service even begins.
Dana the receptionist is so friendly and inviting. The therapists are all very talented. With my on the go lifestyle I NEED my massage when my body tells so and I will get one right then and there. That being said I will take anyone who can see me right away, so I have probably seen every therapist here, but most recently Alex and Ashley. They make you feel at ease and they really know how to target my problem areas. Parking is not usually problem. As another yelper has mentioned this truly is a very special place. -

I have found a new oasis in SF...Earthbody in Hayes Valley.
As soon as you walk in, you know that you are in a special place. It smells good, the atmosphere is very peaceful and quiet and the front desk staff puts you at ease right away.
The location is inside a victorian house on the ground floor. If you are looking for modern and minimalist surroundings, this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for a warm, nurturing, cocoon like feel, then this is the place to go.
I got the "warm Earth" package and it was divine. I have had plenty of massages and treatments in my life, and this one ranks up there....
(#1 spot still Senspa in the Presidio - no one can top the amazing relaxation room and the amenities..even though the practitioners performances are tied with other spas....but that's another story - and this package at Earthbody was truly exceptional)
Elsa was my massage therapist and she was amazing. You can tell that she is one of those people who are not only good at what they do, but she has that intuitive quality of knowing exactly what you need and when.
She is soft and gentle yet knows exactly when to dig in and work out the kinks. I always like a strong and deep massage and she balanced strength with gentleness. A winning combination in my book.
I highly recommend this place if you want to disconnect from the world for a couple of hours. -

Just not my thing...
Like others I've toiled with writing this review. We all like different things so, I give it 3-stars. Here's why:
1. Ambience is good.
2. People are friendly
3. Massage sucked
Great business and recommend it to those who find its benefits useful. Something about this place compelled me to write an honest review. From reading the other reviews, if someone has to try so hard to defend their place of business so badly then they're probably not listening. -

I've had fewer than 10 professional massages in my life. To me it's a very special and intimate thing, so I only take recommendations from friends on where to go to be treated. I'm pleased to share that I can happily recommend the "Repattern" treatment at EarthBody by Sheryl.
My first experience of walking inside felt like I was entering a sacred, tranquil sanctuary for the body and spirit. Sheryl is a very conscious, and gifted healer. Dana, the receptionist is as well. They really are there to serve the customer and treat you with very attentive care.
I went in with shoulders and my right forearm full of tension, and I came out with calm, relief. Everything in that space is very well thought out in terms of feng shui, lighting, temperature and atmosphere. You kind of have to prepare yourself to go back out the door onto the streets of Hayes valley. (I didn't want to leave). But when you do, you'll feel empowered and relaxed to take whatever comes your way.
There are little pockets of heaven on earth in San Francisco, and EarthBody is truly one of them. -

The ONLY place I even consider paying full price for in SF for my massages. Carrie is awesome and most recently I had Ashlee who was also very good. I had a facial here which was good but feel that I can get the same quality using a daily deal at one of the countless spas in the city. For massages though, HANDS DOWN this place. The tea service after is also a wonderful touch.

Normally I like it deep and I like it rough.
But... I was having a stressful week and needed relaxation so it was nice to have the gentle touch of Carrie Stevenson.
The atmosphere at Earthbody was welcoming and comfortable. It was like walking into a home. There were no heavy smell of burning incense.
Upon entering, I was greeted with a smile and a cup of tea. I was handed a page of questionnaires to fill out on any recent pain or related injuries. And before the session began, Carrie acquired a few questions to understand my needs.
The table was lined with a padded pillow top and linen cover for comfort.
With dim lighting, soft background music, her gentle touch and soft spoken voice, my mind was at ease and I felt relaxed to let her work out the knots for 2 hours. The session also included cool eye compresses.
End of the session, I was given water, tea, and a tiny plate of dried fruits and nuts.
I had a nice experience. Thank you to the friend who felt I needed to remove toxins aka stress from my body. -

Ah bliss! I just had another out-of-body experience today at EarthBody.
I was so stressed out that I didn't think it'd be possible for Sheryl to calm my nerves and put me on that magical little cloud between sleep and wakefulness. She did.
I'll admit to being a bit of a "spa-parazzi": I've been worked over by an Eselen-trained therapist at a spa in Big Sur; I've gone to the best spa in NYC and have been pounded and massaged into a coma (I woke up 2 hours later, they "wanted to let me sleep"): I've gone to small practices; notable and expensive spas; I've been to many very good places and places that are supposed to be great but aren't.
Truly, the best massage I've ever received are from the talented therapists at Earthbody. I feel peaceful and relaxed. That crazy stressed-out look on my face and in my eyes, wiped away like steam on a mirror.
Earthbody doesn't have steam baths, showers, complimentary hair dryers and posh locker-rooms and all that extra "stuff" that sometimes helps gloss over a "just ok" massage. You'll pay for what counts: Seriously great bodywork and emerge feeling renewed.
Thanks Yelpers for leading me to this spot. I've been loyal for almost a year and a half.Listed in: Local Gems, Here's How I De-Stress

I woke up this morning still feeling relaxed and light as a feather from yesterday's massage by Ashlee.
I got the Ground treatment and left completely satisfied, which usually isn't the case with 1 hour massages ( I usually do 90 min.).
The rates are a bit steep which just means my visits will be few and far between.

This was the worst spa experience of my life in 7 different ways.
1. The massage itself was the most mindless-feeling massage I have ever had. I did not feel any care or any attention, it felt like the masseuse's hands were just going all over the place to get the job done.
2. The execution of the overall massage was totally ridiculous. It seemed like the masseuse spent as much time moving towels around as he did actually massaging me.
3. I got the Warm Earth Ritual which was supposed to calm nerves, support deep sleep, and ground. It was meant to include hot oil indian scalp massage and facial acupressure with basalt stones. I couldn't even feel the warm stones because they were placed on top of a bunch of towels on my body. There was no scalp massage. He just poured a bunch of oil on my head and scratched his hands along my scalp 1-2 times. And, I got no facial acupressure whatsoever. I kept waiting for it to start, and was shocked when he said the treatment was over!
4. He started almost 10 minutes late, but ended exactly on time.
5. The price for this nonsense treatment was an outrageous $235 (this is with the "yelp discount" - it's normally $250. Holy shit! I have never before experienced such a wide gap between price and value. This massage wasn't even worth $50.
6. The sheets were cold, wet, and dirty. The sheets over the 'head rest' had black stuff on them. The room was also cold.
7. The spa has no steam room or sauna, so the overall experience isn't very nice, since there is no opportunity to quietly enjoy a spa ritual. If felt more like entering a business, doing a transaction, then leaving.
Wow, folks, this is the largest gap between Yelp-opinion and reality that I have ever experienced. Makes me wonder if these other reviewers have ever been to another spa before. ;-( -

It always makes me sad to give a rockin' five star joint such as EarthBody a less than stellar yelp review but in order to be true to myself, I must be honest.
EarthBody really wasn't my cup of tea.
I have had many massages and frequented many spas, both in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The knots in my shoulders get CUHRAZY sometimes and are hard to get out. I had just gotten a pretty great massage a week before at another spa before coming to EarthBody so I didn't really have that much stress in my shoulders but I was looking forward to some relaxing. I got the hour long massage, with the foot treatment add-on.
Although the massage itself was good, not bad, there were just things that I did not like about it.
First off, know that they use a LOT of massage oils here. I usually feel moisturized after a massage and sometimes a bit greasy here and there, but I left EarthBody today feeling like they dunked me in a pot of incense oil. I had it all in my hair and everything!
Also, it was cold. Daniel had nice warm hands but the bed itself was not heated for some reason. When he first came in, he asked me how the temperature was and I told him "cold" and although he said he would warm it up, it never got warm.
The other thing that just didn't work for me was the "spiritual" experience. At the end of the massage, water (or something fragrant) was spritzed into the air and I was told to "feel my body and listen to it" and to feel the "synergy." (?) There are lots of buddhism philosophy and Ghandi books in the waiting area for you to relax with after. Hey, I know it's San Francisco and everyone is into the spiritual awakening stuff, but when I go get a massage, I just want to come out with my knots gone and body refreshed.
I'm not trying to hate on EarthBody or anything. EarthBody is a place for you to.... "get in touch with your body" and to get a niiicee soothing body rub. If you don't like getting covered in all sorts of strong smelling oils and have a lot of tension in your back you're hoping to get out, this might not be the place for you.Listed in: Massage Bliss List

Best massage and facial. My husband purchased couples facials/massages for us, what a wonderful treat. For the first time ever, was blissed out for hours after the experience. My face was glowing after Carrie's Organic Facial and I felt as if I was walking on a cloud after Ashlee's massage.
I recommend EB to anyone who wants to feel rejuvenated and stress free. The price is worth every penny. -

Total bliss and complete workout for the nose! It made me wonder when was the last time my nose had been treated to various scintillating aromas during the course of ritual.
My hubby wanted to treat me so made an appointment for The Goddess Treatment. Be there half hour early prior to appointment due to finding parking spot. Also being early allows you to save time on filling up the small info sheet and taking time to unwind.
My masseuse was Erik. Once in the room, he went through the courses and explained about the products they use. It was divine treatment, getting the full body jute ex-foliation, foot massage (his fingers were excellent in giving pressure which makes you to drift to sleep), special treatment to hand, forearm and he took good care of my shoulder and neck when I asked him to work specially on these areas. There was a time I had no idea when I slept and woke up. Then he finished it off with the hot oil scalp. Felt treated like a Goddess and rejuvenated.
Once the ritual is over, Erik served tea with crystallized ginger, almonds, dry plum. He also advised to wash my hair with shampoo on dry hair and then washing again with wet hair to remove the oil. Very polite and excellent masseuse.
Everything inside EarthBody gives a calm, serene surrounding. Dim lights, gentle music, conversations are whispering (which is great, coz nothing can annoy more than people talking just about anything loudly). -

I returned with the boyfriend for a couples massage. Heather and Elsa were amazing! Definitely my (and now his!) go to spot for massage therapy. I love Earthbody!

Loved it.
Great staff, tranquil atmosphere, great massage. I had the Ground massage with Elsa. She was very open, friendly and most importantly went straight to work on my knotty back at just the right pressure.
The details of the place are great, including the tea ritual following your treatments. Just a few little nibbles to cleanse the palate, with some water and tea. I felt refreshed and ready to face the world again!
I'll definitely be back, and next time I want to try a facial alongside my massage. Recommended! -

Wow! I just had an unbelievable massage at EarthBody. This was my second time coming in. Last time I had a different masseuse, and this time it was Elsa. Both massages were fantastic.
The aromatherapy, tea, and massage combined are what makes this place unique. It feels like more than a massage. It's kind of like a cleanse combined with a massage and some stretching. At the end, they give you palate cleansers like crystalized ginger and tea. They also suggest that you meditate and be mindful of your movements to elongate the relaxation.
Also, if you can get there early and read through the books at the coffee table, it definately enhances the experience. I started my reading a book about Arabic architecture that had patterns that looked like a kaleidoscope. It put me into some sort of transcendantal trance. Pretty awesome!
The only negative about this place is that it is kind of pricey. But, hands down, this is probably one of the best massages that I've ever had. -

my bff in nyc gave me a gift certificate for a massage here this year for my birthday.... she found it on yelp. i'd never been here before. was very excited.
love the neighborhood.
parking was super easy (on a Sunday morning).
great reception and lovely sitting area with Moroccan themed furniture, tea & fruits and nuts to nibble after your treatment
beautiful large treatment room with good "spa" music- very important!
the best part was EMMA!! right away i felt comfortable with her and she really knows the body- she was able to pin point what parts of my body hold tension without me telling her and also clued me into things going on that i hadn't realized.
by the end of the massage (90 minutes of pure bliss- 60 minutes just doesn't cut it) i had actually reached such a deep state of relaxation that i fell asleep on the table. that has never happened to me before. never. then the most amazing thing - i had this vivid dream of a hummingbird flying right in front of my face.
i woke up and realized that it hadn't been all a dream. thanks Emma! i'm still thinking about that massage and i'll be back long before my next birthday! -

Follow your intuition and take your self to EarthBody. The owner is a healing Goddess and her staff is a calming presence from the first moment you walk in.
Their own oils are unlike any other and immediately was the right potion to bring my senses back to the healing touch that I received. The spa experience should always follow you home and this one left a lasting impact physically and spiritually! -

Earthbody is a beautiful and highly reputable spa, appropriately nestled in the outskirts of downtown to encourage relaxation.
Yet, having worked in the spa industry for the past three plus years, I've come to hold high expectations for massage and Earthbody seemed to be just the place to experience an unforgettable treatment. Unfortunately, I can't say that two weeks after, I have an immediate desire to return. I cannot place my finger on exactly what was missing in my massage but I also must note that I lack a strong desire to return to Ashleigh.
My friend enjoyed her massage with Emma, which is ultimately more important to me as it was a belated birthday gift.
I must also add that when I booked the appointment via telephone I had requested Daniel as my therapist, seeing all the wonderful reviews about him, and requested a female therapist for my friend. However, when we arrived, I noticed that there were two female therapists working and no sight of Daniel. When I asked the front desk girl (who was difficult to track down) to clarify, she simply said that Ashleigh was my therapist and Daniel was not working that day. I understand that schedules change but to not be notified or given the opportunity to reschedule to see my requested therapist is a bit off-putting.
