I love the service and the products (Earth Baby supplies you with Nature Baby Care, a Swedish company that makes compostable diapers, wipes and lotions). Earth Baby picks up and composts your dirty diapers and delivers all your diapering and clean up (Clean Well brand soaps and hand sanitizers) needs. The even supply all natural nipple cream. The Nature Baby Care rash cream is wonderful.
So the pros to the compostable diapers?
1. They save energy and water, compared to cloth diapers which have to be washed and dried at ultra high temps, multiple times (simply washing your clothes once with warm soapy water does not kill fecal bacteria folks).
2. Compostable disposable diapers keep baby drier, so less frequent night wakings due to wet diapers and fewer incidences of diaper rash.
3. Composting the diapers keeps them out of landfills.
The main con as far as I can tell, it may be easier to potty train your baby with cloth diapering. -

Shit happens, especially with a newborn. (I will never look at deli mustard quite the same again.) While having a kid is pretty resource-intensive on its own, society doesn't make it any better by pushing space age composite diapers at you that will preserve baby waste forever in a landfill.
Earthbaby was recommended to my by a friend, but unfortunately didn't service Fremont at the time. They have opened up service in our area so as soon as our current supply runs out, we'll be signing up! -

L-O-V-E this service!! Simply use the diapers provided (they sell them cheaper than Whole Foods), hang on to them for a week, and then leave them out for EarthBaby to pick up at your doorstep (same time every week) and leave you another package of new diapers! Easy!
I used cloth diapers for my first, but my second child was far too squirmy and impatient to sit through the steps involved with cloth diapers. I really don't like the thought of filling landfills with diapers, so when I discovered EarthBaby I was thrilled!!
Their service is affordable and reliable. Staff is super available and very friendly if you have any questions or changes to your account. I've been a customer for 2 years, and have never had any issues (never had rash or leak problems with the diapers, either). I would highly recommend this service for anyone currently using disposables!
It's the simple solution to the landfill problem. -

We've been using this diaper service since our baby was born in Feb 2011. We picked up a "starter pack" promotion at one of the local baby events, which included a free pack of diapers, some wipes, and a discount for 3 free months of service - a good deal if you can find it.
Using Earth Baby was the compromise my wife and I struck between cloth diapers and disposable. Compostable diapers are probably more expensive than both options, but you get the ease of disposal (throw them in a bag for weekly collection) along with the ease of mind that you're not contributing to landfill.
I find the diapers and wipes to be high-quality, and the service has been fantastic. We had an issue with one of our deliveries this week, and when I called Earth Baby to ask about it, the customer service guy proposed that they send us an off-schedule delivery at no charge. I highly recommend this service. -

I love Earth Baby! They are fast and efficient, and they are helping me save the planet. I can email questions and get a personal email back even on the weekends. I love the fact that I can use as many diapers and wipes as I want and not feel bad about it. I highly recommend trying it out for a month or two - you wont' regret it!

Review from Beth T.
I started using Earth Baby when my daughter was about 1 month old. She's now 6 months, and overall, we've been really happy with the service. Pickups and deliveries are always on schedule, it's easy to change your order (even last minute if you call them), and their customer service reps are friendly and helpful.
The diapers themselves are fine, though as others have indicated, the sizing is a little wonky. My baby had to go into size 2s much faster than she would have with other diapers. Overall, though, they get the job done.
Sadly, I may have to discontinue my service because her daycare won't save them for us to compost at the end of the day (and I guess I can't blame them). They were great for use at home, though, and I will consider them again if our daycare situation ever changes. They're a great alternative to cloth and regular disposable diapers. -

Reasons why you'll love EarthBaby:
1) They pick up and drop off diapers and supplies weekly.
2) Excellent customer service
3) Easy-to-use website. You set up a recurring order to be delivered. Don't need wipes that week? Just log on and subtract from your order. Going away on vacation? Just log on and tell them not to pick up that week.
4) The products are great. My 6 month daughter stays dry and has never gotten diaper rash. To note, the diapers and wipes are not perfect, but no diaper is perfect. They do the job for sure.
5) Peace of mind. You feel good about doing your part not to add disposable diapers to the landfill...which can take approx. 250-550 years to decompose.
If you live in a place without your own washer/dryer for cloth diapers, this is the solution for you.

EXCELLENT! We have loved this company. Have used their diapers, wipes and delivery/pick up service for two and a half years. Only stopping because we are potty training our son. Customer service is great! Never had any issues.

We were thrilled to find out about this service, saving us from the dilemma of cloth vs. disposable. To us, this is the best of both worlds. We've found customer service excellent, allowing us to change our order after the deadline. When I gave them feedback that a certain size diaper wasn't a good fit for my daughter, they gave me a full pack in another size for free. We've been using them for about 17 months and recommend them.

First, on the diapers and wipes:
They are pretty good - they feel a little papery but hold up well and my 11 month old daughter has had very limited problems with rash or leaking. They do run small - she has been in size four diapers for several months, well before she hit the minimum suggested weight limit. But fortunately EarthBaby will let you exchange unopened packages which is a great advantage over buying the diapers on Amazon. I must admit, we put our baby in disposables at night because we want max absorbency for that 11 hr stretch.
The wipes are less good. We use them because i can't stand the thought of having to separate wipes from diapers but they stick together so if you're changing your kid on your own you inevitably waste wipes when pulling them out of the pack.
On customer service:
Overall I'd give the diapers and wipes 4 stars, but customer service at EarthBaby is so amazing that they easily compensate for any potential drawbacks of their product. The deliveries are always timely and they take specific and sometimes complex directions about where to deliver. They get major props for finding parking on our crowded street and walking to our place rather than double parking in the street (we live on a very narrow street, and UPS regularly just blocks traffic to deliver). The folks actually in customer service are very accommodating as well, and always cheerful. They have an online chat service that is fabulous and also do customer service by email. In my 11 months of being a parent, I've had nothing but positive experiences with EarthBaby. -

They are made very well and can hold up thru the night, protect our mother earth by not adding to the landfills..sign me up!. Service is wonderful, from placing orders, exchanging sizes, delivery to pick up, all guilt free.
I'm so happy with Earth Baby, thank you. -

It is rare that one gets to say this, but EarthBaby exceeds my expectations at just about every touchpoint. From customer service (outstanding), to delivery (100% reliable), to products (BEST diapers), EarthBaby has been fantastic. I have been using them for a year and a half and am so grateful for their service. For what really is a nominal fee, they provide enormous value to both my family and our efforts towards sustainability. Every employee I have encountered (the owner as well) has been extremely nice and has demonstrated that they truly care about my experience as a customer.
Also, I am really glad that I chose this over cloth diapers on many levels - rash avoidance, convenience, and very possibly product life-cycle impact (too complex to be sure).
Anyway, many thanks from this momma for EarthBaby. The best! Highest of recommendations. -

Earth Baby consistently delivers (and picks up!) great service with friendly people and excellent quality dipes and wipes that you can feel good about. This is the present and future of diapers. No need to fill landfills!

I am so thoroughly happy with the service and the diapers that EarthBaby provides! This company exceeds my expectations! I am absolutely thrilled that we can do our small part of saving the earth from a landfill filled with approximately 5,000 diapers (the average number of disposable diapers that one child uses)!! Also, it uses a lot less water than using cloth diapers or a cloth diaper service. I have found that the diapers keep my daughter free from diaper rashes though every other one we've tried on our out-of-town trips does give her a rash. These diapers are also not filled with chemicals or petroleum as so many of them are. The service has been timely, courteous, and efficient. Anyways, if I could give a 6th star to EarthBaby I would!

So happy to have found this service a couple years ago now. My son has super sensitive skin and the disposable diapers were causing rashes on him, with these diapers we have never had an issue! Also, I love that we are not adding disposable diapers to the landfill, but yet have the convenience of a disposable diaper. So easy to just place in the compostable bags and we have a special trash bin outside that we just throw all the diapers in - the service just comes and picks them all up, perfect! Not to mention that I don't have to be running to the store for diapers, wipes, baby bath, hand soap, & trash bags! They are delivered as I need them each week - love it!

I love this service and their diapers. I've had no problems with the customer service. I've even logged in the morning of our pick up and requested diapers with no issues.
The diapers are great.. for my baby. My first son did well with a certain brand of disposables, but my second son can't wear them for 30 minutes. I would recomend getting a pack and trying them before signing up.
We use one size up, but I have only a handful of leaks in the year we've been using them.
I just looked into the TIny Tots service and it seems that would be more expensive. We're spending about $100 a month. Our daycare also packages the diapers for us to take home and put in our pick ups.
Come on San Francisco Moms: Stop putting disposables into the landfills. There is no reason for it! -

I love this service. It's convenient while also helping us not feel guilty about using disposables. We started cloth diapering with our first child but she had constant rashes so we went to disposables and never went back.
Is it expensive? Well, maybe. It costs us about $200/month, but we have infant twins. The more babies you have, the cheaper the service is. In fact, when we started the service, our oldest was also in diapers, so that made three. Since they have a flat fee for the service, no matter how many diapers they have to pick up, it works out well the more kids you have. Tiny Tots Diaper Service charges per box of diapers, so the more kids you have, the more expensive it gets. For us, it ended up being about $60 cheaper/month to go with Earth Baby. So do your own calculations :)
As for customer service--I find Earth Baby to be exemplary, which is what I save my 5-star reviews for. We ordered some diapers before our twins were born that were too big for them, so we didn't use the service for a while. Earth Baby called us to find out what was going on, then put our service on hold for us so we wouldn't have to pay the monthly fee until they actually started using the diapers (we were too busy and frazzled to do it ourselves). Their cut-off time for orders is really last-minute (so convenient!) and they always email reminders; they take back unopened packs of diapers; our pickup guy is really friendly... I honestly have no complaints. I suppose the billing might be easier to *understand* if it all happened monthly, but *I* prefer the flexibility of being able to modify my order weekly.
All in all, I love this service and recommend it whenever possible. While it may suck that they're not available in certain areas, that's not really a reflection on their customer service, as those people aren't customers. A sound business model requires (among many other things) a sober calculation of what areas the company can profitably cover. I hope the company manages to grow responsibly and that demand eventually makes them available to all who would use the service.
Good luck, EarthBaby! -

EarthBaby exceeded our expectations and then some. It really is a great local business. I'm writing this review as I sadly am canceling since my kid will be in daycare most of the week. I feel bad asking the daycare providers to set aside our dirty diapers so I can bring them home.
*The Diapers* Everyone (including our pediatrician) who has witnessed us changing our daughter's diapers is pleasantly surprised at the great quality of Nature Baby diapers and can't believe they are compostable. We have found them to be incredibly absorbant, to rarely leak (usually due to user error) and they easily hold up over night (9+ hours). Our kid has sensitive skin and has had no problem with these diapers. I will continue to buy Nature Baby diapers even though we won't be using the EarthBaby service anymore.
Only 2 slight issues we have had:
- once we got a bad lot of diapers which we defective (some leaked, some were missing a tab). I contacted Earth-Baby via online chat, they notified the manufacturer and replaced the bad package.
- The size 1 and 2 diapers are a bit narrow. We went up to size 2 a little early since our kid's waist was too big and endure a week or two of diapers being a bit baggy on her tush (just had to ensure the gathering was positioned right to avoid leaks). Size 2 and Size 3 overlap a bit in weight (2=12-18lbs, 3=16-28lbs), but Size 3 has extended tabs so the narrowness issue goes away. Consider trying Size 3 even if your kid is not quite 16lbs if you are having fit issues with Size 2.
*The Service* Totally worth the $29.99 service fee, if you don't mind spending a little extra to avoid piles of diapers in landfills. My cost analysis over 6 months estimated 39 cents a diaper using EarthBaby service v. 36 cents a diaper for disposables. You never have to run out to buy diapers since they are delivered to your doorstep. You aren't increasing your water and electric bills washing and drying cloth diapers every day or two. You don't even have to walk the dirty diapers out to the trash since they are picked up from your doorstep.
*Customer Service* Excellent. In the beginning, unless you know your baby is going to be 8+lbs they do one delivery and then suspend it, if you want, until you know the diapers fit. They pro-rate service if you start mid-month. If you need to change an order, exchange sizes, etc., try the online chat. If they are offline, they email you back quickly. Also, see above re: defective lot.
I highly recommend trying them out, especially during the first few months when you go through so many many diapers! -

Love these folks. We've only forgotten to put the diapers out once, and luckily the driver was still in the area and came back for them later. I don't think they will do this for you on numerous occasions, but at least they are flexible. This service and diapers have worked out wonderfully. I highly recommend it. What is $30 a month, anyway? The Netflix bill plus a few morning coffees?

Not to be a jerk about it, but I'm not terribly impressed with their customer service. And I've never even had the opportunity to be a customer!
Back in June of 2009, I did a lot of research on options while pregnant with our son. My husband basically said I was crazy if I went cloth and that he wouldn't do it - so I was *thrilled* when I found out about this service and so excited to be able to continue to improve my "green" habits.
At the time, we had just moved from San Francisco to San Leandro. They didn't cover San Leandro at the time, but after talking to one of the reps there I was happy to hear that they had plans to expand in the East Bay.
Fast forward to August 2010. I've been using Naturebaby diapers and wipe as well as biodegradable trash bags in our diaper bin for 7+ months. They have expanded to Berkeley (duh), Oakland, and Alameda. I reached out to them to see if they could go one step further, or make an exception for us (we literally live two blocks from the Oakland border). No way. She suggested that my husband or I could bring diapers to work and that could be our solution...sadly, I work from home and my husband works in Emeryville (also ridiculous considering it is IN BETWEEN Berkeley and Oakland).
Oh well. I have to recognize I've done as much as I can do. And, even though my diapers are going to the landfill, at least they'll decompose a little faster than the millions of pounds of Pampers and Huggies they'll be joining there. -

I cannot say enough great things about this company! We used cloth with our first daughter but we constantly battled with diaper rash. As well, our local diaper service retired and the new diapers were coming all the way from Sacramento (adding to the carbon footprint). We switched to compostable for our second daughter and used EarthBaby from the beginning. They have been very friendly, answering my random questions, and adjusting my deliveries to suit my needs. They answer the phone whenever I call, but their website is incredibly easy to use. As well, our driver is wonderful and seems to genuinely like working for this company. This type of service leaves us with a clear conscience, knowing that we are not contributing to the massive amounts of diapers going into landfills. Definitely worth the price!!

I love EarthBaby! Not only am I helping the world, I love the customer service, website interface, quality of diapers and wipes. If you are worried about the cost, you are really saving money because you are not going to Target/Costco/Babies R Us at the last minute and end up buying $100 worth of other stuff you weren't intending to buy.

I did a lot of research on diapers and chose this one because they seemed very convenient, my friends recommended them, and I wanted to do the right thing for the earth. Because the delivery person was incredibly unpleasant, I am transitioning to cloth and washing them at home.
Pros:
website easy to use
diapers work fine, tho it would be great if they carried newborn size
delivery consistent
customer service is very tactful
Cons:
I had several interactions with the delivery guy, and he was consistently rude and dismissive. He did not seem to understand that the demands of being a mother are more important than making his delivery process easier for him. He complained about delivering to us each time. In addition, I once taped a note to our dirty diapers for pick-up so my neighbors didn't move them. When I saw him, I made a comment about scotch tape not being compostable, and he rolled his eyes at me (and said something dismissive) which made me wonder if the company is actually even composting the diapers or if its all a gimmick.
I complained to customer service, and they were very nice about it. I told them I didn't want any more interactions with this guy. Now, the delivery guy makes as much noise as possible every time he delivers to us. He honks when he is outside the building. He makes a big noise when he puts the diapers on the floor outside our apartment; and he somehow manages to move the front door knob around when picking up diapers (when we aren't receiving a delivery).
The company owner gave us a credit when I complained, which was very sweet and I appreciate. But he was also defensive of his employee which didn't seem appropriate to me. I don't have any interest in picking a fight -- my priority is being a good mom. This delivery guy seemed to have his boss wrapped around his fingers.
Oh, also it's true that you can get these diapers for a tiny bit cheaper on Amazon, but Amazon won't compost them for you, and you would need an industrial composting system (not just garden).
Also, newborn size would have helped a lot. -

Terrific service...They've called me to double check on orders that I've placed at the last minute! I realize that it's so great not to have to go out and buy diapers, carry them to the car and in/out of the house. The website is easy to use and you can even stop service when you're out of town.

I am too lazy to deal with the hassle of cloth diapers, but my finely developed Catholic guilt complex won't let me go the Pampers route. Thankfully, there's EarthBaby Compostable Diaper Service.
They pick up my kid's poop-filled diapers and wipes every week. They drop off replacement Nature BabyCare diaper, wipes, and other baby care products at competitive prices, and I don't have to leave my house to place an order. We also use the BioBags they sell on their website to contain the poopage, so all I have to do is tie up the bag from the Diaper Dekor and stick it on the porch, secure in the knowledge that my baby's feces will someday be turned into decorative mulch on golf courses and the like. Voila-- environmental guilt complex assuaged!
Seriously, I can't recommend this service enough. They are local, the new website is much easier to navigate, and the diapers themselves work very well (though they run a little small-- if you are in doubt about the size, order the larger). I once sent an email to customer service at 9:00 p.m. on a Tuesday and had a satisfactory response by 1 a.m. Wednesday. If only all service companies were as dedicated! -

The life cycle analysis of the environmental impacts of cloth vs. plastic diapers usually comes out even, so when we had our first baby in October 2009, we wanted to make a choice that measure up even better.
EarthBaby compostable diapers have been fantastic. In combination with early potty training (called elimination communication), this really is the easiest diaper method that has the lowest eco footprint. The diapers themselves are superior quality and we've never had a major leakage disaster. The delivery and pick up service is reliable and unintrusive. I highly recommend EarthBaby. -

We've been very pleased with EarthBaby. The diapers work really well for our little guy, and the few times I've had cause to interact with customer service, it's been prompt and helpful. It is definitely an expensive option, but, when you take into count the environmental impact, it's worth it if you can afford it.

With EarthBaby I feel like a Superhero. Saving the Earth, one diaper at a time! I tell everyone I can about this wonderful service. Compostable diapers that are as easy to use and dispose of as plastic disposables? Seems like a no-brainer to me. My friend on the peninsula has been using them for years and I waited and waited for them to expand to San Francisco. I am so glad they did. The diapers work well, the service is excellent, my baby stays happy and rash free. Thank you EarthBaby!

I found a very happy solution to the cloth vs. disposable debate -- compostable!
We started using Earth Baby at the birth of our second child. Previously, we had been filling our garbage can weekly with just our garbage plus our toddler's diapers. After starting to divert our diapers to Earth Baby, we noticed that our can was half empty! Seriously! I wish we had been using it when we just had one child, too.
We're very happy with the Nature Babycare diapers -- they work great even overnight on our toddler and never leak. The wipes aren't as great. Sometimes I use regular wipes (thicker and softer) for my baby's messy poop changes and just keep them separate since they're not compostable.
The customer service is responsive, and their website is easy to use. One time I needed to switch sizes after the 48 hr. cutoff and someone called me and took care of it at the last minute. Great!
I wish everyone would do this. I hate thinking about all those diapers headed out to landfills. But it's an expensive option -- not for everyone. -

I love, love, love this service.
When my son was first born we went Tiny Tots (another great company) and used cloth diapers. I am a first time mom. While I love the environmentally friendly aspect of the cloth diapers (and the Tiny Tots service) , the reality of trying to change a squirmy newborn in the middle of the night while half asleep into the cloth diaper with the snaps and then the overpants. It was just too much for me. I then discovered Earth Baby (Tiny Tots did not offer the compostable service at the time). This gives me the environmentally friendly aspect of the cloth diaper with the ease of a disposable. I've been a customer over a year and am beyond happy. Their customer service has always been awesome. I usually only need to call to add something to an order. They also carry an extra supply of most items on their truck. If you forget you need something the morning of the delivery you can leave a note and they will leave the item you request. I recommend Earth Baby to everyone I know. -

I love using Earth Baby! We've been using the Nature Babycare diapers for almost a year, but Earth Baby is a new addition for us (we had to wait until they were servicing SF). Worth the wait- I love not having to throw the diapers into the landfill garbage bin.
Everyone on their staff is friendly and very helpful.
Great diapers!

We started using this service 6 months ago and I highly recommend the service. The monthly price has increased from $25 to $30 in that time, but that is such a small price to pay for somebody picking up the diapers, delivering new diapers and helping the environment. The diapers are also cheaper than buying them from a supermarket. They also swop unopened packs of diapers if you need to go to the next size.

fantastic business!! I've found the products and service to be wonderful and I feel so much better knowing that the diaper waste our baby generates is not going into a landfill. As others noted, the correct name is EarthBaby (search for that and find more yelp accolades there) but I wanted to add my vote of support here.

This service is SO awesome. It's a reasonably affordable way to take some responsibility about the impact of diaper waste on the environment, but still enjoy the benefits of disposable diapers. Their customer service has been impeccable so far, the diaper products are great and the website is easy to use. Well done, Earth Baby!

Review from Tyler S.
Palo Alto, CA
Great service. If you can get by their incredibly confusing website (which, according to inside sources, is under revision), earth-baby provides pretty much the best way to diaper your baby.
1. Sign up and pay $25 per month
2. Buy your diapers (Nature Babycare), wipes, and diaper bags from the site
3. Get your dirties picked up once a week, and get new ones delivered once every four weeks
The service is *incredibly* cheap, considering what you get. The price of their diapers is competitive (better than by-the-pack @ http://diapers.com by $0.20, better than by-the-pack @ WholeFoods by $2.00 per pack, a little more expensive than a 4-pack @ http://diapers.com), their weekly service is dependable, and all your kid's (or, in our case, kids') waste gets composted for use in landscaping, golf courses, etc. While I'm no expert, I can't think of an environmentally better way to diaper your kid(s).
They're still small, and don't have the infrastructure to staff a customer service department like a bigger company (calls to their customer service line go to a central company voicemail), but with luck and some success, one hopes they'll get there. This is a business worth patronizing. For very little money and no sacrifice, you get an environmentally-friendly way to diaper your little one(s). -

Allow me to add my cheers to the throngs of ecstatic customers. This service rocks, and the products are incredible, especially the diapers themselves. I've tried biodegradable diapers, none fit to prevent leaks like these. The pricing, flexibility (start/stop or postpone while you're away, change order, all without being charged,), quality and reliability of the service are truly remarkable. I love knowing that my baby is not contributing to the landfill problem, I hope they will eventually be available to everyone!

I couldn't be happier with my EarthBaby service. I really struggled with the diaper decision. While cloth seemed better than filling a landfill with plastic diapers, contemplating my life as a working mom, I couldn't fathom the inconvenience of cloth combined with the excess water utilized in cleaning cloth diapers. I had considered (and rejected) just about every green alternative there was when I learned about EarthBaby. It seemed too good to be true, but a year later, my little guy is into size 5s and we're still going strong. The diapers have turned out to be reliably durable and just as convenient as "normal" disposable diapers. The people I've interacted with at EarthBaby obviously love their work and their customers. Like I started with, I couldn't be happier with this service.
