I have been waiting to go to Earth for some time now, so I think my three-star review has a lot to do with overly high expectations. As someone who never goes out to Mt. Airy, I also wanted something absolutely stellar after my ridiculous trek. Perhaps I'm being a little harsh? Anyways...
Earth Bread and Brewery is overall pretty good. I ordered the sausage pizza which came with turkey sausage, mozzarella, and mushrooms. I wish there were more mushrooms, but the flavors blended well. The small was also the perfect size for a dinner portion. My dining buddy and I split the white bean dip, which was delicious---not overly garlicky and served with bread, carrots, and green peppers. I feel goofy about it now, but I ordered a Sly Fox Oktoberfest to wash everything down. Should have ordered a house brew...but oh well. For dessert, we split the banana bread pudding which was HUGE (more than enough for two people). It was on the dry side so I ended up eating more ice cream.
All in all, not bad. The atmosphere is cute and cozy, kind of like someone's giant living room. But the food wasn't as awesome as I kept hearing.

Had dinner here on a recent visit to Philadelphia and was not disappointed. The spinach salad was good. The vinagrette had a kick to it! The flatbread (sausage, mushroom, banana pepper pesto) was tasty, though there could have been more of the toppings.
What I really enjoyed were the brews made on site. I had the coffee stout, which was great. I also sampled the mild and kolsch, and those were good as well.
The downside? Parking! But that was to be expected.

I am a foodie....and this place was awesome! What a neighborhood jem!
This was my first time in Mount Airy....and was pleasantly surprised!
I was with a group of 5 and we ordered:
1. Ceasar salad-ok
2. House salad-so good
3. Edamame-good
4. Artichoke dip-very good...should toast the bread
5. Large Pizza special-which was bourison cheese with squash-so so good
6. Large mexican-so good
7. Large traditional with added sausage-so good
8. small pesto with added chicken
9 many of the beer selections and spanish red wine!
Fantatic job...server Daniel was great! We love this place...it will be added to the "regular" list of places to eat! Thanks!

I hate to give any Mt. Airy small business a bad review. But I ate here three times prior to reviewing, and I have to be honest. The first two times the food was great and the service was decent, but the last time was so terrible that it knocked this review down to two stars.
I'll say it again to be fair: the beers are great, the beer selection is wonderful and changes often, and the flatbreads are really, really good. I've had some appetizers here like soup, salad, edamame, cheese, and olives and they've always been tasty.
But this third time...first, I ordered an olive appetizer which was way different than it had been before. Before, it had been a small, tasty serving of various olives. This time, it was a large bowl of completely tasteless olives. I actually sent it back, and I have NEVER sent back a dish in any restaurant. The waiter seemed surprised and made me explain myself several times, which I didn't think was necessary. But whatever, I had a delicious flatbread coming.
Except that it never came. All of my dining companions received their food and were nearly finished by the time we even got an explanation. In fact, it seemed as if the waiter was avoiding us. Finally he came over and said that there was a "mix up" and the pizza would be out in mere minutes. Well, it wasn't mere minutes, but it finally came. I received an apology from two waitstaff about it, and the offer of a free dessert.
Well, okay. I can accept that. I ordered the banana chocolate chip bread pudding. And it took FOREVER to come out. It became comical. I assume they only had to heat it. It took so long that we were just amused at that point. And when it arrived, it was very, very burnt. I received a burnt end.
I try not to hate on anything "free," but when your free comped dessert takes forever to arrive and is BURNT, what is one to do?
Two out of three weren't bad, but they weren't good either.

I've eaten here about four times since it has opened. I love the pizza and the beer and I would love to give it four, or even five stars however there still seems to be some service issues. The first time I went was a few weeks after it opened. It was very busy later and it took a while for some things to arrive but I decided not to hold it against them since it was so soon after opening. My second trip during a late lunch was perfect with a large-ish crowd. My third trip, everything was fine except my coffee did not arrive until well after I finished desert. At first the waitress kept explaining that a fresh pot was brewing but I think she eventually forgot about it. My most recent trip was almost perfect until we received our bill. We had ordered a large special pizza which apparently cost $21 (!). Although it is obvious they use high quality ingredients, the waitress did not inform us of the price and it was not consistent with the rest of our prices. When we inquired the waitress to double check on the price, she claimed she had no idea it cost $21. That is just poor training on behalf of the management. We explained that we were surprised at that price, and although the pizza was delicious, it did not seem to be worth $21. We mentioned it the waitress that she might want to inform diners of the prices of the specials, since they are so much more than the rest of the menu items.
I hope they can get some of the service issues fixed because other than that, I love this place!
The food choices are a little limited. But the flatbread pizzas were pretty good and made decent companions to a few beers. They have a decent selection of beers on tap. And the inhouse brews were not bad.
This place is surprisingly large inside. The upstairs area could hold a few larger groups easily. The staff was friendly.
It's also a baby friendly place. We went for a week night dinner with our 10 month old son who tends to be a little antsy and had a fine time.

It's good to be a foodie because, this place was amazing even the beer. I was grateful that my friend took me there to try it.
One of the highlights of the small Mt. Airy strip. The waitstaff is amazing, the flatbread pizzas are excellent, and they always have great beer on tap. While they only offer 6 standard pizzas, I pretty much always get the Special of the Day - it's always different, and almost always great. I've had a great horseradish and flatiron steak pizza, a dandelion-base pesto pizza, and dozens of other unique combinations. The small pizza is a perfect amount for one person, and I've never seen one over $16, most are more $9-$11.
They are great for themed beer weeks (all one brewery, sour beers, all local, etc) - I've had a couple good beers brewed there too, but generally don't think they stack up to the great stuff they have on tap. But, you've got to respect that, like the Special pizzas, they are continually experimenting with new brews, and I'm sure someday will come up with something really exceptional. Also, the sides are great - the Artichoke dip is wonderful, and the house goat cheese salad is quite nice.
The only real complaint I have is that every night the dinner slot is overwhelmed with screaming, running children whose half-drunk yuppie parents can't be bothered to control. I go a lot less than I would due to that, usually only coming in for late dinner or evening drinks.

i am happy to have this edition to Mt Airy...and sad it took me so long to review it...
I ventured there on a random tuesday night with my boyfriend...it was still pretty busy for a Tuesday, so I can only imagine what it is like on a weekend night.
Despite appearances, this place is actually big inside, so don't worry about a long wait....
We were seated upstairs. Its super cute and dare I say Earthy inside. I felt like everyone who was there spent their days working for an organic farm and then went out for a refreshing drink....you know, kinda hipster but sincere about it....
Earth Bread brews their own beer and while they have other microbrews on tap, I strongly suggest going with one of theirs. I believe their beer menu changes often so all the more reason to keep going back. Unfortunately I don't recall the quirky name of the beer I had but I remember it was a french farmhouse ale and it was soooo good. It was the best part of the night.
Our waiter was awesome ....very friendly and very imformative.
I opted for a small garlic seed pizza and while it was good, I kinda felt like it was glorified bread sticks.
We also tried their special for the night, which was a honey mustard flatbread with chicken, and carmelized onions. It was soo good and we had leftovers the next day. It was kinda a surprise that it was $20 though. I mean, it was good and all....but $20 for pizza er, I mean flat bread...well you understand.
I loved the beer so much that I am definitely going back...and flat bread is a good accompaniment...though be prepared to be full when you leave....

I dined at Earth Bread and Brewery last night and woke up this morning thinking about how wonderful it was.
I was with a party of 9, friends having a ladies night out. We were seated after 9pm and closed the place down. Our sever was pleasant throughout, did not rush us, and was quite helpful. We basically ordered and ate family style -- our feast consisted of four different apps, four different flatbread pizzas, dessert, beer and coffee. Everything was simple, delicious, well-made. And the cherry on top is that Earth is SO reasonably priced! We were stunned at the amount of delicious food and bev we got for the price.
And on top of all that, this place is kid friendly!? I am SOLD. Huge fan of Earth Bread and Brewery. Plus the decor is gorgeous -- the work of local artists is hung in the beautifully lit, tastefully designed space. Furnishings have an organic, found-object vibe and it all comes together as hip, understated classy rather than flea market pizza place.
I recommend Earth highly to anyone, but especially if you have family and don't have the money or time to spend on CC restaurants: Earth does the trick big time IMO.
LOVED IT! And the eco-conscious misson -- another bonus. GO!

Just Last Night! I was repeatedly harassed by one of those Yelpers that thinks their review count gives them the credentials to be right all the time about everything. Her comments were severely insulting and untrue. I just want to give a little "Who the fuck do you think you are" shout out to Alexandra T.
Anyway, she thought that my Earth Bread review was out of wack. Interestingly enough it seems she hasn't even reviewed it. Maybe she hasn't been there but likes the name, or thought that my comments were so mean, it just couldn't be the truth!
So I've needed to update Earth Bread for a while, and this gave me a good reason to do it. I've been back several times, but not for food of course. I can tell you that the menus are now laminated, and the atmosphere after the children are gone, the brief window before they close prematurely at 12 or 1, is relaxed. And of course the beer is still great. Sorry Alexandra, thats the best I could do for you. It's still a big fucking "2 Stars - Meh. I've experienced better." If you can write a compelling 5 Star review, instead of a nonsense review of a review that you threw in my face, I say bring it on.

One of our neighbors and I checked out this relatively new addition to Mt. Airy this evening. We'd been discussing going here for months and there was quite a bit of anticipation.
I expected the menu to be a bit bigger as I don't usually take restaurant names so literally. When they say bread and beer, they really do mean bread and beer. The menu consists of flatbread pizzas sized to share or not (small or large). They've dreamt up a few concoctions of their own or you can create your ideal flatbread with their offering of toppings. Throw in a salad and that's pretty much the whole restaurant. There are a couple of other starters like edamame and lettuce wraps. They also offer a few goodies for the kids like veggies, fruit, and peanut butter.
I ordered their house salad - mixed greens topped with cranberries, apple slices, candied pecans and goat cheese. The portion was quite generous and, thankfully, not drowned in their house vinaigrette. No points for creativity, but the ingredients were fresh and delicious. I guess you can't really do much with a basic salad, though.
Feeling a bit famished, I ordered a small flatbread to myself topped with red sauce, mozzarella cheese, sundried tomatoes, and artichokes. If I am ever craving "pizza", I am coming here. The dough was crisp on the outside, tender and chewy on the inside. The sauce to dough ratio was perfect - no soggy crust here folks. The artichokes were the best I've ever tasted I think. They had a delicious tangy taste and were extremely tender. I'm glad I decided not to share.
I washed everything down with a bottle of Walt Wit - a smooth Philadelphia take on a Belgian White. Walt Wit is a highly drinkable beer that won't leave you feeling woozy after two. It paired as easily with the green salad as it did with the tang of tomatoes and artichokes. I like that their selection is varied, but not overwhelming with 12 pages of bottles to choose from. It seems quality over quantity is key here. It would still be nice to have some better explanations of the types of beers they have. I honestly had no clue what a session ale was. It also might be a good idea for the server to let you know what beers they are out of so I don't ask for a bunch of explanations for things that aren't even available.
The atmosphere is minimalist, but nice. There is a small first floor dining room and bar with another bar and larger dining room upstairs. They really take their earth friendliness seriously here as the bathroom lights are on motion sensors.
Unfortunately, the service was kind of lacking. Our waitress was really sweet and nice, but seemed to disappear towards the end of our meal. It was hard to get the check taken care of and we felt a bit stranded. We didn't have any ridiculous delays in receiving our food, though. I was surprised and unimpressed that our salad plates were not cleared before our pizzas arrived. Everyone else at my table was sharing large pizzas and they had to ask for extra, clean plates as well as parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes. Wouldn't it just be easier to keep those on the table?
Like other reviewers, I was surprised by the number of children under the age of 6 who were present. Yes, it was early on a Friday night, but the word "brewery" usually keeps the rugrats at home. One child kept throwing food and crayons from the high chair and another one had to be walked around the place by his father to calm his temper tantrum. I think it's fine to bring your kids, but make sure they're well behaved, please. Or maybe just get a babysitter if you want to sit back with a few beers.
I got the feeling this would be a good place for multiple occasions - the family Friday night out, a casual (first) date, beers with friends. Just be sure your dining partners know the menu really is limited to flatbreads since this little place is not Atkins or South Beach friendly.
I don't mind the limited menu - it was kind of refreshing not to have 3 pages of entrees to choose from a la Sabrina's Cafe. I'll go back for sure.

We finally got to try this place after hearing about it for a while. I was nervous because of all of the lackluster reviews, but I love flatbread pizza so I wanted to give it a try. Our group had a really good experience and I'm not really sure why people are so negative.
The food: We ordered a house salad, edamame, a large traditional pizza, a small seed pizza and a small sausage pizza to share between 4 people. We all thought everything was really good. I was nervous about the seed pizza being too seedy from the description, but it was excellent. The traditional pizza comes with greens on top that may seem strange, but if you don't eat them with the pizza you're missing out. The salad had a good amount of goat cheese and dried cranberries and could have had a few more pecans, but overall it was really yummy.
The beer: I had the house Saison and tried the porter. I'm not usually much of a beer drinker, but they were both really good. I agree with other posters that more explanations of the house brewed beers would be nice, as well as menus or a second chalkboard at the far end of the bar. I was surprised when I asked for a description of a certain beer that I wasn't offered a sample before ordering - usually most places will do that.
The service: Here's where I deducted a star. Note to people who work in the service industry - if you don't like dealing with the public, don't be a bartender. After a chilly initial reception at the bar, the rest of the staff was pleasant enough, but they could step it up a notch on the hospitality front.
Overall I was impressed and would definitely go back again. I agree they could have more options on the menu, but I would be happy to eat the same meal I had a bunch more times.

Pluses-The beer was delish and hit the spot. And its a 5 minute walk from my house.
Minuses-Waiting 45 mins for a small pizza when you are ordering from the bar and not the table. Super limited menu offerings. I think the dessert was a cookie. Most places at least offer the obligatory Fudge Sunday. An ridiculous amount of children ages 2 to 12. . This is a brewery???
The Seed Pizza is great as has been stated by several fellow Yelpers, its was offered as a sample.
But I chose to build my own and I am not sure why it was so complex for me to basically order a white pizza with cheese and roasted onion.
After 45 mins that pizza should have been mouthwateringly delicious it was just okay.
I have no problem with a place having a family atmosphere. But a brewery?? Who brings their children to a brewery?? The bartender seemed offly harried and stand offish for the place to not be spectacularly busy. From what I could tell there was a bar upstairs as well.
There should be 2 boards with the beer listings and if they want to do it right they should take a page from Monk's book and have a mini beer reference for those of us who aren't completely familiar with the bottled beers behind the counter. And Why does the Bar STOP so abruptly , it should wrap around.
Atmosphere: The atmosphere was VERY waspy, chestnut hilly, which was surprising considering you go to any of the establishments on the same block and they are quite culturally and economically diverse. I am not a huge fan of places where the only brown or beige face you see is working in the kitchen or busing tables. I was the only non white patron for about 40 minutes. There were some random hipsters that came in and they seemed out of their element as well. They sat beside me. LOL
I had 2 beers and a pizza for 16 dollars which was not bad considering I can go to places and only get 2 beers and some fries for that much.
If I need a beer and don't want to go to the bar half a block down the street. MAYBE I will go to Earth Bread Brewery. But it just gives me the feeling a place I might go to on a day when my mom came into town and we didn't want to drive to get a meal.

Last weekend, Saturday was a perfect day. I joined Jesse's Beer by Bike ride to do a 25 mile-ish bike ride out to Earth Bread and Brewery in Mt. Airy. As the name states , Earth only really serves up flat bread pizza and beer. They are a microbrewery, and only had two of their own beers available. Despite that, they have a decent selection.
For lunch, I had the seed flatbread. The pizza was topped with pine nuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, and roasted garlic. It was delicious, and a great deal at $6. The rest of the group ordered all different kinds of flatbread, and with the exception of the traditional (which just looked like a tomato pie with a small pile of basil in the middle) everything looked great. I followed up my pizza with a cheese plate appetizer. It was mediocre, and at $9, I was wishing I has ordered more pizza instead.
For beer, I tried both of Earth's brews. They serve up two sizes of everything; 13 oz for $3.75 and 20oz for $5. For the beers on tap, these are decent prices. Monkey Brain Tonic (terrible name) was my first beer, which is a light Belgian ale at 2.8%. Since we had just taken the huge bike ride, this beer was so refreshing. I had their barley wine also, which was fine. It was nothing remarkable, but I was impressed since it was made in house.
Earth has a small bar and a few tables. There is also an upstairs dining area, but it wasn't open while I was there. There is an open brewing and kitchen area, complete with the brick oven right out in the open. It has a very cool atmosphere, and would be a great place to take kids. Jesse's kids, Jane and Maruke, watched the cook making pizza for quite some time. The one thing that I loved is that they are really working with the Earth theme. There were a few full cool maps covering the walls and some globes in strategic locations around the restaurant. The theme is right up my alley.
The bartender was cool, pretty diligent for how many people he was serving, and did a great job keeping all of the checks separate. For some reason, however, I have the feeling (and have heard) that Earth doesn't have very good service.
Bottom Line: I was pleased with Earth, but with the lack of variety, it will be a long time before I visit again. Earth is fine, and if it was around the corner I'd stop by every now and again. It's definitely good enough to check out at least once.
I'm surprised nobody gave this place a five star review yet. I love it! The seed pizza is my favorite. I've gone here three times in the past month. They are leeching from my paycheck!
The service so far has been really good. Delicious beers, and the selection changes every week. Always something new to try! I had the most amazing chocolate stout last night. The prices are a value too! Only 5 bucks for a 20 ounce of anything on tap. Lots of local selections makes me happy.
A true asset to Mt. Airy. We need more places like this. If you haven't been yet - check it out. Heck, you might see me sittin' there sippin' on some beers.

This review is for the bar only.
RIP Inglesea! Every time I come back east, Mt Airy is more and more boho. I'm not complaining because when I come back east I don't have a car, so any place in walking distance is A-OK by me. But -- still quite a shocker to walk into the former Underage Express and find a very, well, Chestnut Hill type of establishment. But microbrews!
Actually, their homemade brew is pretty average -- the ESB has the most to offer at this point -- but they have other favorites on draft and there's nothing wrong with that (even if McMenamin's has them beat on that front too). Added bonus: since this place is new, all kinds of folks are hanging out there, so cancel that 'just for fun' speed dating night and bring your friends here instead.

Eh, I thought this place was kinda mediocre for what they were serving. There were some pros and cons.
Pros: They do their own beer. It's pretty tasty and they do some interesting ones. They have a smoky beer that tastes like you just sucked on a meat smoker. And the other ones are good too. They also use fresh ingredients in all their food.
Cons: For a pizza place thats trying to be inventive, im not really impressed. It seemed very run of the mill, and it didnt separate itself from other places. I went there within the first couple weeks it was open, so maybe things have changed up.

This restaurant opened very recently and is definitely still working out the kinks. The concept is a brewery and brick oven pizza place with classy decor and an extensive, relatively inexpensive beer/wine list.
So as a concept it could be fantastic. It was at least enough to make my boyfriend and I curious and stop by the night after we saw they were open. However prices for the pizzas are a little high. Plus they really need to think of some more creative/out there topping combos. If they can work out something unexpected that would definitely draw more of a crowd. As it is, the pizzas are tasty. There are about 7 or 8 to choose from or you can put together your own.
The brewery part is interesting as well. I wish our server had known a little bit more - but perhaps you would be more fortunate at the bar. He was very nice and helpful in other respects. There are four "house" beers - the farmhouse ale was simple but drinkable. The Terra Fume was incredibly smokey and a little overwhelming.
At any rate, I wish them luck and we'll stop by again after they've had a few months to work things out.

One of my favorite places to go sit down with a big group. The specialty pizzas are always a good choice as well as the standard menu selections. BEER is always a tough decision there because the selection is unbelievable. As far as they waiters go.. they are new and you can tell. We had some order mix ups but it resulted in us getting a free pizza or desert. I like this place a lot and highly recommend it to anyone who likes a friendly atmosphere to drink some good beer and eat some very good flat bread pizza! This will stick around for a long time.
The first time we visited Earth Bread, we were somewhat disappointed. The flatbread was so-so and the beer wasn't what we expected from the former owners of Heavyweight. But we live in the neighborhood, and love the idea of new businesses and family-friendly restaurants, so we gave it a second chance. Since that time, our cravings for their amazing food and beer have turned us into Earth Bread junkies. In just a few months and with a little practice, their flatbreads have come to be some of the best, reasonably priced pizza in the neighborhood. It's a shame they don't do take- out.
The menu is creative, and every day they have a different flatbread special and app specials. The menu is a bit limited, but the creativity of the flatbreads that you can order makes up for it. There is always one of their beers on the menu for someone's taste, and the servers and bartenders that we've encountered can give you extensive information on the different varieties. They'll also happily offer up a sample if you still can't decide.
And to boot, the place is kid friendly. I'm sure a lot of people are turned off by that aspect of it, but I don't know too many parents who will take their child out to any restaurant and allow them to act like a heathen. There are so many restaurants in the city that are not appropriate for children. The fact that families are made to feel welcome here is wonderful, especially in this neighborhood of young families.
I had a nice night here but overall i would give it a big OK.
I thought the space was rennovated beautifully, and they seem to have a lot of seating (downstairs and upstairs) but we waited 45 minutes to be seated. Their beer was good, and I like that they brew on the grounds.
The food was just "eh". Nothing impressive, i think they can try just a little harder. I expected a little more bar food.
Definitely worth trying at least once.
I have been really excited for this spot to open and was looking forward to another option in Mt. Airy, I have to say I've been disappointed. They don't have a great selection of food, they sell wine and beer, but no hard liquor and they close around midnight. It would be a good place to go get drinks and order a pizza if you get hungry... but the main draw is supposed to be the food and there are much better options for that in the area. It's not really a bar scene; no TV, no music, no liquor... but they don't have enough food to really be a great restaurant either. It feels like they are stuck somewhere in the middle.
The owners are very friendly and the staff are helpful, so hopefully they will work out the kinks.

A few weeks ago I went to Earth Bread + Brewery. I was so excited to finally have the chance to go. I think it is amazing that a larger place like this opened on Germantown. I have to tell you I was impress when I walked in. The place looks great - a good mix of Mt. Airy artsy and Center City class. That is where it ended. The menu is really lacking. Not too many choices my friends. I still was okay with all this and thought this would still be a great place to grab a beer and a snack on the weekend. But it was all down hill from here.
We called two friends to tell them how great the place was and they decided to join us for a beer. The waitress was very accommodating, but the owner thought otherwise and told us that they could not sit at our table with us because there was not enough room (the place is huge and there was PLENTY of room). I could not understand why she was being do difficult. She was not rude, but she did lack in the customer service department. Anyway, we left all feeling like a great thing was ruined! I wanted to run home and immediately give it a bad review, but I didn't. Instead I called there two days later and asked to speak with the owner (I wanted to explain my disappointment). A guy got on the phone, listened to my whole story and then told me that he would discuss this with the owner since she was away. I was floored! I could not believe he never told me he was not the owner!
Fast forward to this weekend. We thought we would give it another chance (not forgetting what happened last time). We went in and asked for a table for two. The owner was the one that greeted us....again, she was not rude, but she certainly was not friendly and inviting - isn't that the was these places should make you feel? She has such an Old City attitude! Like we need her and she does not need us. So we go up to the table, wait 10 minutes and finally the waitress comes over and asks if we are "ready to order", no apologies for taking 10 minutes when the dining room was only half full, nothing.
Needless to say, we left and will not go back again! It is so disappointing that they cannot get it together. There is sooooo much potential. Let's hope Wine Thief will be better with their service!

Really awkward space, has a weird finish out--like a not quite finished community rec center. Doesn't make you want to sit there for hours. Blackboard with beers/wines is hard to read and they need to have some sort of menu for those who need explanation of beers. Beers are alright and good happy hour prices. Food looked good.

it's great having more options on this stretch of germantown avenue, but i don't really understand what all the accolades in the ny times are about. the food was fresh and simple, and they have microbrews. ok, yeah? the menu is limited...more like snackie foods instead of meals...and there aren't a lot of options. the options there are seem tasty, but i'd certainly appreciate a few more menu items.
the place is cozy and comfortable, but it's pretty racially segregated for such a diverse section of mt. airy. hoping they continue to improve...

The menu has expanded and so I felt like I needed to add: TRY THE DESSERT PIZZA!! You won't regret it. It's amazing!

I couldn't be happier that this place opened so close to where I live. I have been here about a half… Read more »
i leave off the fifth star for service, which was both good and bad. our server was very friendly and kind, and got everything right - eventually. service was slow and mis-timed (i.e. our second round of beer should have arrived during dinner, not just before dessert). the place just opened, though, and i'm confident this will improve with a bit more time.
everything else: fantastic. i generally don't like beer, but their sedgewick pale ale was enjoyable enough for me to order a second. they also have boylan's sodas (my favorite!) including birch beer.
the flatbreads (pizzas) are delicious. we ordered four and shared them all. their caramelized onion and kalamata olive special is fantastic. along with the pesto and sausage breads. the mexican is also very good, but tasted sort of strange in contrast with the others. i would order it again on its own.
desserts vary. we had the apple crisp, and it was just above average. it could be better offered with some ice cream.
the upstairs decor is very warm, but i'm not fond of the sage green paint downstairs. check out the hooks in the second floor ladies room, and the light switch cover downstairs by the hostess podium, they're fun.
overall, it was a delicious and fun dinner and i look forward to returning.

This place doesn't quite gel. The five pizza "flatbreads" they offer are solid but only the "seed" is notable. The four beers they brew at any given time are fresh and tasty, never offensive but rarely a revelation. The desserts from Night Kitchen are okay but the selection absurdly limited. The service is unpredictable, the lighting unflattering. Compared to Dock Street in West Philly, Earth Bread can't hold a candle. But it's two blocks from my house, so Earth Bread it is.
Yumminess in a glass and on a plate. Their home brewed beer is super and the price is right. Plus, what goes best with beer? PIZZA! My favorite is actually one I asked them to customize...it is the veggie pizza but instead of mozzarella cheese, I have them bring me a side of creamy goat cheese. MMMMMMMMM. This is definitely a place I will be making regular visits too.
i went for dinner last week with a friend. yes, the menu's small, but i personally think that's a good thing. do what you're good at, and nothing else! after this review i'm going to write a pretty foul one for honey's sit n' eat, a place that really needs to take a page from the small menu book. small menu, high quality. eb+b does this really well, i think. pizza, beer and salad makes for one of the most satisfying meals around!
the salad is WONDERFUL here. i have seriously never had a better salad in the city. and for $6, it's an awesome value. it's pecans, goat cheese, cranberries and apples over some dark baby greens with a really, really excellent vinaigrette dressing. it's rare i rave about a salad, but this one is particularly amazing.
i had the seed pizza, which was not AS transcendent as last time, but they were also hella busy and grossly understaffed. it was still damn good. we still kept eating long after we were full. seeds on pizza is a lovely thing, who knew. and since it's a white pizza, the crust doesn't have a chance to get sogged down. my friend's veggie pizza's crust did not fare the same. the longer slices had a little bit of sog, which is a shame considering they seem to take a lot of pride in their crust, what with that fancy oven and all.
i had two beers, both good. one was called we heavy, yo - and true to its name, i was a little buzzed after two. really good molasses-y flavor. i also tried the santos l. halper (cute! a pop culture reference i actually get!!) and it was less strong and honestly after that sweet strong beer, did not stand up.
now for a few negatives:
it's not the restaurant's fault, i realize, but the kid situation here is out of control, and patrons at least should know this going in! i can't stand kids in a restaurant. so i was a little less than thrilled when an 8-top (half kids) sat RIGHT next to us. the only dislike greater than loud children, to me, are negligent parents. it was seriously obnoxious. had my pizza been any less tasty, i might have lobbed a slice their way.
the restaurant was disgustingly understaffed and it showed. the little staff that was present was obviously flustered and hadn't brought their a-game. i left a nice tip, cause i really felt pity for the guy - the entire room was his alone, including 3 large parties. it must have been horrendous. but they should have reallocated some of the other staff, pulled the hostess or something. dessert came a good hour after we finished our meal, but it was without silverware! that took another 10 minutes.
and finally, the dessert was not good. it was a bread pudding lacking flavor and good texture, and it was a bit overdone. first time in my life i did not finish my bread pudding.
all those complaints taken into account, i still give them 4 stars because the we heavy yo beer, house salad and seed pizza are JUST THAT GOOD. and cheap. next time i will sit at the (hopefully kidless) bar and order these three things and perhaps leave a 5 star review.

Tried out Earth Bread + Brewery on opening night.
The food was great. The salad tasted fresh and had a variety of greens rather than just iceberg or romaine lettuce like most other salads. The pizza was almost perfect - the crust was a little soggy. I had the carne(sausage), and the sauce was very good on it.
They had a large range of beers. They had four of their own as well as 8-9 'friends' - beers from other local breweries, as well as a variety of bottles. Tried all four beers, and enjoyed their taste, although they aren't as hoppy or complex as some people might like their microbrews. A wide variety of wines were available for about $25-$45/bottle($6-$12/glass).
Service left a lot to be desired. While it was the first night, there were a couple mistakes on the orders, and the food seemed to take a while. This is why I took off one star.
Prices were more than reasonable. $3.75 for a 13 oz and $5 for a 20 oz beer, and pizzas were $6-$9 for a small, which means salad, pizza, and a large beer would go for about $25 pp inc. tax + tip. Just a pizza and small beer would be under $15 pp. I would not be shocked to see the prices go up within the next several months, as they seemed slightly low.

After hearing all the hype, my husband and I went early Friday evening. We both thought the food was very good, but the service was among the worst we have ever experienced anywhere. Our waitress took our order and that was the last we saw of her. Well that's not exactly true - I saw her throughout our stay at the other end of the room talking, goofing around - having a grand time. Our food was delivered by others, and as the time passed the couple next to us were attended to by another waitress who stopped by several times to check on them, refill drinks etc. Finally at the end of the meal after waving frantically at her, our waitress returned. When I commented that it would have been nice to see her earlier to get us more drinks, she mumbled something inane about how she was waiting for us to get our pizza - which had been long eaten. Had she said OMG I forgot you guys were MY table, I could have lived with it, but instead we got really terrible service complete with attitude. I should add I emailed the place - it took oh two weeks to get a response that said - we don't condone that kind of service. I responded that it would have been helpful to hear back more quickly. They do not understand that customers are what you actually want going to your restaurant!
