One Liner: Very nice diner like place

Food: (scale of 0-4) 2.5
So yes, I'm from Jersey. this place feels like a dinner with booze and much better decor. The food was decent and the service was great. The portions are very generous. If you are hungry, this is definitely a good place.

It's hard for me to find anything wrong with my experience at Eagle House.  I went for a dinner with people from work and we ordered 3 different appetizers - the coconut shrimp, the stuffed banana peppers and the artichokes.  They were all good but the banana peppers were far and away the best.  I honestly didn't think I would like them but the stuffing of gorgonzola cheese & spinach made it so delicious.  The coconut shrimp were so good that one person even had a dinner portion.

For my dinner I had the Gorgonzola Steak - 10 oz. grilled Black Angus filet of sirloin, topped with a gratin of bleu cheese and herbs.  I ordered the steak medium-rare and it was cooked perfectly.

I ordered one of the dessert specials of the day - some kind of oversized peanut butter cup with a chocolate mousse.  It was a huge portion and I was happy to share it with the table.

The restaurant seated us in the room in the far back right of the restaurant, which was good as we proved to be a loud group of diners.  I love the decor, it's exactly how I would want to decorate my restaurant if I had one.  There was wood paneling on the lower-half of the walls below the chair rail - above the chair rail was a beautiful blue and white wall paper.   I tried to go back but just didn't have time, however, this will be a must-visit if I'm ever in the area again.

My wife and I went here on the spur of the moment (got the wrong night for the swing dance at the VFW right behind it).  We happened to go on a Thursday, half price bottle night.  The wine selection was good, but you're not going to score a cut rate Silver Oak.
The service was good and there was a nice atmosphere.  They did a good job on the remodel; lots of dark wood, but not kitschy.
I had already had dinner, so I got the Welsh Rarebit.  It came out so hot it was erupting.  It was great, it tasted just like the rarebit my mother used to make.  It's the British version of Nachos (although it predates it by several hundred years).
My wife had the Beef Wellington.  She loved it.

I use to meet a former State Senator here that I grew up with "once" each summer until he moved to Florida. We went to high school and the same church together growing up. When I was young, the Eagle House was nothing more than a run down saloon where village and town workers hung out after work. It was also the meeting place for the volunteer firemen where Koch's draft was served at 10 cents a glass. Behind, the bar was a 400 lb. bartender known as Tommy in those days.

The Eagle House really changed when the Hanny family owned it and turned it into a nice Village of Williamsville restaurant. They sunk a lot of money into remodeling the place and really made it respectable.

The last time I was there, I had the bison burger which was pretty good but a little dry. Since then, I heard that the Hanny family sold the restaurant. The new owners keep running ads in the Amherst Bee utilizing old pictures from the 1930's titled this is where your Grandfather took your Grandmother on their first date. Let me tell you, back in the 1930's, no woman in her right mind would have gone into the Eagle House alone. No gentlemen would have ever taken a woman there unless she was Tugboat Annie or Millie the Village punching board.

Four stars for the Hanny's!

I have always loved the Eagle House for lunch, dinner, drinks, or whatever.  It's cozy, and in the winter or fall, there's nothing better than sitting at the bar with a beer or an Irish Coffee while being warmed by the fireplace.  One of my wedding showers was held here, and we had our wedding reheasal dinner here as well.  They are very accomodating and will give you a room upstairs for an event that holds 30-40 people.  We always hit the bar in July for late night drinks after the beer tent at Old Home Days closes.  My favourite dish is the crab cakes with lobster cream sauce and julienned veggies.  The steak and gorgonzola sandwich is also pretty damn delicious.

my husband and i went recently for saturday night dinner.  as we passed through the interior of the restaurant, we noted that it was very darkly lit.  our reservations were for the patio, which was great with the warm weather that day.  ii had the french onion au gratin soup, which had a thick cheese covering and was delicious.  nathan had the crab cakes appetizer and that was good as well.  for our entrees, we both ordered the prime rib which is only available on saturdays.  the prime rib was just okay and we've definitely had better.  we're definitely willing to give it another chance and perhaps order a different entree next time we go.  over all, good service and tasty food.
