9 reviews for Eagle Harbor Book Company
A nice, quaint little store. It was small so the selection is not overly large, but for their size, they do well. The staff were nice. It is a new and used bookstore, though I'd like to have seen more used selection (seemed about 85% were new).
I thought it was cool that they had a large audio book selection; however the prices were very confusing. It turns out that they rent out the audio books like a library (for a small fee I'm guessing) which is cool, but it was not at all clear what the "purchase" price is. You'd not know (like I didn't) that they were rentable if you weren't told. I found an audio book that appeared to be a lot cheaper than it actually was as that number had something to do with the renting policy.
Anyway, its the confusion of the audio books that I take a star away.
Places like this remind me why Barnes and Noble isn't always the best option. Don't get me wrong, I love B&N for its wide selection and its comfortable chairs. But Eagle Harbor Book Company is good for the soul. A very respectable selection, and the staff is SO much more friendly and knowledgeable than a typical B&N or Borders, where the employees are mostly unmotivated. Also, it's fun to go bargain-hunting for some good used books. I wish there was a section of all used books, instead of needing to look shelf by shelf.
I came here on a Sunday afternoon to go browsing and to clear my mind a bit, and it served that purpose remarkably well!
I stopped in here during a short visit to Bainbridge from Seattle.
It's about what you'd expect from a small, somewhat "touristy" little town, but the store is really quite cute! The selection is good, especially in the children's section, and the place has a nice feel to it.
Nice books store. Easy to browse through, and they have a large "staff recommendations" section, which I appreciate. I didn't know that they sold used books until I read a review, which is too bad. The children section is well laid out. My only complaint was the randomness of the map selection. There was a map of Denver, but no maps of the Olympic Peninsula.
We've been buying books here since we moved to the island in 1991. It is a nice place to browse for titles and the staff is usually very helpful if you are looking for something. My kids have always loved the kid section. I watched President Obama's inauguration there!
If you go here, you just might remember the importance of small, independent bookstores. It's quaint and relaxing and family friendly, and one of my favorite cold weather traditions. Cold, rainy day, warm tea latte at Blackbird with some toast or a pastry, and then a good read in a comfy chair at Eagle Harbor Book's. I'll continue buying books here just to help it stay in business and not be over run by large chain bookstores and http://Amazon.com. Yes, I spent 40 bucks there on the last Harry Potter book instead of 18 at amazon, but it was worth it.
Proof that the best in bookselling does not come from chains. Local operation with excellent customer service, frequent events and policies which are friendly to local small publishers, writers and communities. A BookSense member. Plus, awesome wood floors, an excellent children's section, and used books! My favorite business in town!
Good, small town bookstore with lots of variety
for the size. Always interesting authors speaking.
There's alot of variety here. It's a nice place to browse. They help out local authors, too. That's a benefit, in my opinion. Prices are typical bookstore. Owners are good people.
