I got that boom boom pow! After hearing this, birthday sex,, great night(black-eyed peas), and why are you so obssed with me, at least 4 times each or more today during our trip to Oakley, and at home while we were a-shuckin' our peas, I think the radio station was seding me a messege!
Ok, so Mercy sold my dad's 5 lbs of peas, she was thouroughly contrite and shocked that I forgive her, plus they have more coming in mid-week. And no matter that the price went up 15$ buckaroos a case. ( have decided to venture into the black-eyed peas business next summer. Hell my back yard ain't doin' shit for me now!)
Oh and did I mention that they weren't black-eyed peas? But, rather a chromosome different that distinguishes themselves with pruple eyes, and purple hulls, thus purple hulled pes. Identical in taste, a bit bigger, and a bit creamier, and I don't care which... But point is, they WERE NOT BLACK-EYED peas, and I know the difference. LIke the same one chromizone that seperate peaches from nectarines. Did you know that? Peaches have a chromizone that causes fuzz.. HA!
Now we need more than UF & C. We need Informative. (I)
LOL!
Also picked up peaches, plums in all sorts of colors, Italian beans, wax bean, persian cuc's, okra, tender green beans, streawberries, and on and on...

I just came back from a little visit to Brentwood's farm stands.  We usually don't go to Dwelley Farms, but we stopped in today because I forgot to buy melon.  I choose a nice looking cantaloupe.

When I got home I noticed the sticker on the melon indicated that it was grown in LOS BANOS.

Umm....shouldn't a farm stand only sell what they grow?

I am a big fan.  I love their onions and tomatoes.  Peaches, melons peppers, zuchs!! I'm dreading the end of the season.  I have to go NOW! It's almost over, bummer.

I just made a call to this farm to get more information about what they had right now for U-pick and the woman on the phone told me very rudely that they did not do U-Pick.  Bummer, cuz the kid and I wanted to pick some berries.

After a day of U-pick, this is a good last stop on the way out of Brentwood.  This place is strong in berries and has excellent produce.  If you didn't pick enough peaches or cherries on the ranches, they have them all picked out for you, with less blemishes and bugs!  In addition to getting more peaches, they sell plums, apricots, string beans, and asparagus.  The quality of the produce is very high and maybe even surpasses that of U-pick produce.  Very fresh stuff.  Dwelly Farms rocks and its good to support your local growers.

U-pick berries berries berries and other stuff too!
I like to stock up for the winter. Nothing better than bringing out some summer blackberries or ollalieberries in November to make a smoothie, pie, or delicious topping for ice cream. Freeze them fresh and it's like the day you picked them.

This farm/stand combo has all your local fruits, vegetables ready for purchase all at a very reasonable price. The string beans I get here are so fresh and delicous you can even eat them cold as a snack. They always have the local Brentwood corn of course which folks have to know is the best corn around. Just in case people don't know...no one grows corn like the Brentwood Farmers grow corn. It's the best!!! No lie.
This is one of my secret favorite places for fresh produce.

Dwelley is the best place in Brentwood for picking berries. They currently have boysenberries and olallieberries to pick for only $1.50 a pound. Hurry - the berry season is short and sweet!

Don't be fooled, those watermelons in the store are from Bakersfield.

During the summer this place is a gem for berries. Every weekend I'm in the area I want to gorge myself with a gallon of cream and a flat of their berries.

Their raspberries, blackberries, strawberries and cherries are some of the best in the area.

Their local honey is delicous, and as a second runner up to Smith Family Farm, their stone fruit (nectarines, peaches and apricots, ya goofballs!) is worthy competition in my refrigerator.

Their Blue Lake beans, corn and eggplant are also very good.

Scattered about are little recipe cards of homemade recipes that you can take for free; pickled green beans, a veggie squash fritatta. I love that 'little something' this place has. Not as big as Smith Family Farm but this place has their own little niche on the produce map in my head.

When my kids were young, we would come here and buy a box of white corn knowing it would be a treat.  Anything you buy from Dwelley's is wonderful.  Just wish they were opened all year long.
