This place is a bit hit or miss, but let me tell you the Poutine is a definite hit!
Apparently the owners are from Montreal, so they know what they're doing when it comes to smothering crispy fries in amazing gravy and cheese, mmmm! -

I'm sorry, but just getting into this viral way of critiquing food/service. Let's keep it simple, I'm not one to slander.
Ordered: Eggs Benedict- AWFUL!!!!!!! really, for fifteen dollars, I ordered this as a staple. Two stale pieces of under toasted english muffin, deli ham (not even heated or pan fried), two poached eggs (not bad), but no hollandaise!!! what would you call this CHEF? really? I'm embarrassed for you? LAZY! at least for $15 bucks. I've had better EBD from a poor deli in LES on a Tuesday. Monsieur, don't get lazy and if you don't have the ingredients, don't serve it. You really ruined my food experience there. Service was sincere and kind, but they should have noticed the frowns on the plates. I really am ashamed to tell people to go there for a bit. a drink maybe, but a bit. forget it. my father always said (with a French accent) There's fusion..........and CONFusion! ha!!!! you guys didin't even confuse, you gave up. much support, hope you don't half ass anything again. cheers.

Service was great for a large party.
This is a french-style restaurant. If you are lacto-vegetarian or vegan, or gluten-free, let your waitress know beforehand. I should have done that rather than making assumptions.
Beer was pretty well priced. Parking was eh. -

Last couple of times we have been in for dinner, the roast chicken has been off the menu. It was a special once, but they ran out (at 7:30 they were out!). Really wish it would get put back on the menu. It's listed on the dinner menu on the web site, but just called and they said it isn't part of their menu :(

I like this place a lot. Feels kinda fancy, even though it's not really. Delicious egg dishes for breakfast. And the JAM!

4 stars for the food, 2 stars for the service.
My first impression upon walking into this place is that it'd be perfect to be featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, since I would definitely describe it as a dive. Old/dingy booths and eclectic decor; the decor and ambiance are definitely for the hipster crowd.
The hostess seated us, but wasn't very friendly. She didn't smile and just kind of handed us the menus carelessly. My co-worker tried to engage her in conversation and she just left mid-sentence.
I really liked the basket of artisan bread, butter, and preserves they give you to start. We ordered a bunch of different dishes to share and try. The huevos rancheros looked great, but were pretty bland. The savory crepes (chicken and mushroom, ham with asparagus) were good, with a rich beschemel sauce. My favorite item was the crab cake appetizer, which was served with a salad. I wish I had that dish all to myself and didn't have to share, LOL. Ooh, they also have poutine! It didn't have authentic cheese curds though and just regular melted cheese. They were still delicious though. How can you go wrong with fries, cheese, and gravy?
After bringing out our food, our waitress never returned to check on us and we had to flag her down for the check.
Parking is difficult to find in this area. If you can't find metered street parking, they have valet. -

Came here especially to try their Poutine, When your dating a french girl the caloric content of everything you eat seems to double. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The service was friendly and efficient.
We started with a cheese plate served with warm crostini's. It was tasty, had a small salad in the middle and fresh grapes that were sweet and juicy.
I ordered the roasted salmon served with a variety of brocollini, and assorted root vegetables that had been roasted. Dominique ordered the pan seared Chilean sea bass served with wild mushroom and risotto. Both dishes looked and tasted pretty good. The side dish of poutine was okay, it lacked additional cheese and gravy, according to my french date. What can be bad, french fries, cheese and gravy.
If you find yourself in Silver lake and want french food you should give Dusty's a try. -

My friends and I came here for Saturday brunch recently. Crowded, but we lucked out getting a table. What I love most is their STARTER BREAD:
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
And the soft BUTTER (sprinkled with salt too) and PRESERVES:
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
I had the TWO EGGS with BACON and subbed in fruit for $2 extra. The bacon was just tragic. Tasteless and limp...wahhhhh! Failed bacon makes me really sad.
One friend ordered the HUEVOS RANCHEROS, which we liked, and another opted for a TUNA MELT. The cheese is melted on the outside! My friend also wanted a MIMOSA, but it took so long to come out that she changed it to an OJ when we stopped our server. He comped it on the bill. By the way, the OJ tasted totally freshly squeezed. I can see why people go gaga over the mimosas here.
Oh and this place is kind of a celebrity magnet. We saw Kirstie Alley when we were here. And when my friend went back again a week later, she spotted P!nk, plus her hubby and kid! -

I've been to Dusty's a few times now and, to be honest, it's hit or miss. When it's hit it's a solid breakfast house with scrumptious, creamy ham and asparagus crepes. But when it's miss... ugh... You get a soggy omelet with canned, mushy white asparagus and wishing you'd sat your keister in Denney's instead.
They have ONE good waiter--the guy with the short, dark hair. The other two seem to waver between surly and, possibly, e-tarded. So if your waiter isn't the first guy than I suggest you RUN AWAY as quickly as possible. It would definitely be a 'miss' day. The rule of thumb seems to be the earlier in the morning the better because once they get busy... you may be doomed. The last time we went there we waited TWENTY MINUTES for our waiter who, technically, NEVER showed up. The dark haired guy saw we were obviously forgotten and took our orders--which eventually showed up a half hour later. Stone cold. It had obviously been forgotten under the heat lamps.
Oh! I forgot about the bread! Yeah, they dropped a basket of bread on our table and we thought it was a lump of coal! No, seriously. I posted the picture in the gallery. Go take a look. I'll wait. It's called "Dusty's Bread Basket."
Did you see it?
Was I kidding? No! Can you imagine ANY other restaurant cutting up that bread and putting it on a customers table? I mean, it's INSANE, right? Man, if I hadn't taken that picture you NEVER woulda believed me, right? Wait, it gets better: So the rat-tailed waiter FINALLY come by (turns out he's our missing MIA waiter) and I simply raise the basket and show it to him. To his credit he goes, "Oh, sorry! That's not right. Let me get you another." So this time HE goes back, saws another baguette up and brings the basket back.... AND IT'S ANOTHER LOAF OF COAL BLACK, BURNED BREAD!
W.T.H.
So, yeah, sometimes you go there and your mimosa is sparkling and you feel very Angeleno.... and sometimes you go and find yourself drinkless, turning your head toward the kitchen frequently and thinking to yourself, "What the hell is going on back there?" -

Busy, and bustling, yet we were easily seated at 11 on a Sunday.
Sweet decor, especially around the bar.
Our waitress seemed a bit flustered, but was fine I guess.
Great eggs benedict, yummy bread basket, good string coffee. My oj was not fresh-squeezed, which was a little sad, but I dealt somehow... -

Great place for brunch, but does get busy later in the mornings. I always love the toast/bread and orange marmalade that comes before your meal...yum!
Street parking available, but limited... and there's also valet available. -

I'm a fan of this place. I've had both brunch and lunch here. The Eggs a la Luna and the Protein Breakfast are simply wonderful not to mention a mean slice of salmon in the their salmon scramble. Service has always been friendly and prompt and they provide delicious breads and spreads to start your visit. Brunch on weekends is usually packed so don't be all pissy about a wait... that's what happens at good restaurants so plan on it.

I just ate brunch at Dusty's and I am officially never going back here. I have tried Dusty's once before and I thought the food was OK. But, this time I found a metal staple in my egg whites and brought it to the staffs attention. Though they fixed the problem I was never confronted by a manager or told sorry. The waiter bought me a free mimosa and took the egg whites off our check, nice gesture. But, they should have comped at least half the meal! The food is also over priced for what you get.

It's been about 2 years since I've been to Dusty's and I was happy to see that it hasn't changed. We went for Sunday Brunch and only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table. The waitress was really nice and let us have a huge corner booth all to ourselves.
My friend had a goat cheese crepe and I had the stuffed french toast; both were excellent. I was told that the stuffed french toast didn't come with anything so I order some potatoes on the side. When my order arrived, half the plate was piled with fresh fruit, so the potatoes weren't needed (and weren't very good either.)
The only negative thing about Dusty's is that it's so loud in there, it's really hard to have a conversation. -

Super disappointing. Dusty's used to be my go-to for brunch when I lived around the corner. Same when I was in grad school nearby and we'd get an unexpected break. Made a brunch date with a friend today because I knew they took reservations, and I thought they served a reliably-good brunch.
During my yoga class beforehand, I could taste the lamb burger from days of old that I was eagerly anticipating....adding goat cheese & sweet potato fries....when I got there I discovered, to my dismay, the lamb burger has been removed from the menu! Eying the eggs benedict another patron ordered, I settled for this instead. The egg was nicely cooked, but the dish was room temperature. The breakfast potatoes, which were hot (maybe they held the whole dish for the potatoes) had a strong taste of...freezerburn? Blech.
My latte was also barely lukewarm. My friend's mocha was forgotten until we pointed it out. Our server was super sweet and apologetic, and didn't charge us for the drinks. I'd add an extra half-star for him, but it's a whole star or nothing, and based on my previous experiences and the standards to which I'd held the restaurant, I just can't add that third star.
Scrolled through recent reviews and saw that other patrons who've been eating there a long time also acknowledged that something must've changed - cooks, management....whatever it is, I agree....not what it used to be. -

I always make reservations. You should too. This place has a great feel, it's our go to brunch place when we have family in town. The food has a french twist, the breakfast items are different. Their table bread is tasty. The service has never been bad-but it goes from attentive and friendly when it is a bit slow. To Nice to have you here- now, eat and get out, when it's over crowded. The mimosa's are divine.

I love Dusty's! I always get brunchy things, so I can only speak for breakfast menu items, of which I've tried several. All were really tasty. Chorizo skillet - yum and their various benedicts are all very good. Ice coffee is premium with free refills. Seating is comfortable, place is not too noisy, staff has always been nice. Street parking is easy to come by during the day at least.
The last two times I was there involved interesting celeb sightings. Juliette Lewis was there with some industry weasel and was accosted by a homeless person while sitting outside - she handled it very nicely. The time before it was the main secretary from Mad Men, you know the one, guys were drooling so loudly I couldn't hear what she was talking about.
The only reason I didn't rate them 5 stars is because the perfect brunch place must have a full bar for bloody mary's - none of that soju crap. They didn't tell me that so I had to send it back. Oh, and, I wish they had some way to control flies. They really like that place, both inside and out. Don't let that dissuade you though, it's not that bad. Definitely worth going to on a regular basis for me! -

My entire experience here was incredible. I came here on a date and it was seriously the BEST place I have ever been taken for a date in my life! The food was absolutely delicious! Orgasmic even! My date and I enjoyed a bottle of wine, great food, and wonderful service! Our waitress answered all our questions and checked up on us just enough to be very helpful and not intruding. The ambiance of the place is also very inviting, the food is high brow but the decor is eclectic enough for a regular girl like me to feel comfortable. I really really enjoyed my experience here. :) I highly recommend this place! I would really love to come back!

the restaurant is is decorated in a vintage style with antiques and when i walked in, it smelled like it, too. i almost decided to turn around and walk out, but i was interested in the food- the whole reason i was even there.
the servers were quick to seat me and bring water, and the food was quick to come- and it was good! i dont regret staying for the food at all. it was very good.
just when i thought the service was great, it took forever to get a refill on water, the check and my change. 3 servers and i would say we were less than 10 customers.
all in all, i would go back. the food was delicious, i'll just make sure i have more time to wait on the waiters ;) -

I first, ordered a bowl of the minestrone soup. When the waitress gave me the soup, the soup was splattered all over the outside of the bowl. It looked like a mess and was rather disgusting. This should have been wiped off before it was ever served. The soup had little to no flavor and needed to be badly seasoned. Next I got the Cobb Salad which was horrible. The tomatoes in the salad were ICE COLD. Tomatoes should always be kept at room temperature and never served cold, its a rookie move. The "blue cheese" served on top of the salad, was just two small blocks of cheese instead of crumbled on the salad. The cheese was extremely hard and had no flavor, which is difficult for blue cheese. I think I had 1/4 cup of avocado on my salad. Just overall blah food and not good ingredients. Was really looking forward to going here but it was just really disappointing.

I was here for lunch for the first time ever. I'd seen their ads in L.A. Weekly and was in the neighborhood, so I decided to try them out.
The bread that came with my entree was warm but uncovered, so I didn't know that it was warm until I finished reading an article in my magazine and touched it. By then it was only lukewarm. Missed opportunity for some nice warm bread with butter.
I ordered the angel hair pasta in garlic and oil with broccolini and chile flakes. It had suitable bite, ordinary flavor.
The pear tart for dessert had a thin, flaky crust and was served with ice cream. Though it looked great, it was inelegant to eat, trying to cut it with the spoon that came with it.
Too many other great choices out there to settle for poor service in presentation and follow-up. Clearly this actress had other things on her mind. -

gah! this place sucks. once in the door, i was greeted by a bustling dining room, with dingy, greasy looking upholstered booths and "dusty" crap victorian fringed lampshades. the faux painting i expect is for ambiance, but it just looks dirty. hung-over waitstaff, run around the floor, which is poorly laid out, causing all the more running. bad energy, lots of newbies to the neighborhood, apparently impressed with themselves.
waitress called the mimosas "martinis", the hostess insisted on wearing an outdoor wool fedora. the food was a half-step better than denny's. bread was burned. good espresso. fried egg overdone. uninspired beet salad with too much frisee, goat cheese on a mushy toast. blah. actually, i prefer denny's. -

I've lived in Silver Lake for 7 years, been to Dusty's many times. Haven't been in a while, and after today will not ever go again.
1pm brunch, seated after 5 minute wait. We ordered chilaquiles and scrambled eggs. People were seated around us. They ordered their food. Their food came. Ours didn't. The people around us paid and left. We still hadn't seen any food.
At 2pm, my friend asked if the food was coming. He snapped, "It's coming," turned and walked away. I had to be somewhere at 2:30pm. When he returned, I asked for the check as well. I thought it would speed things along so we could just leave when we finished our food. He had his hands full of dishes. He gave me a nasty look -- and when he snapped this time, he threw the dishes and smashed them on the ground. The restaurant clapped. My face turned red and I started to sink into the booth. My friend was horrified.
While the staff cleaned up his mess, the server came right back and threw the bill down on the table. In a faux-cheery voice he said, "Here's your check" -- all it had on it was my cappuccino -- and snapped away again.
A little shaken, I got up from the booth and asked for the manager. I explained what happened. He was nice and personally apologized to us, offering to even buy us breakfast when we returned. He packaged our food, handed it to us, said there was no charge, and shook our hands.
When we got out to the car and looked in the bag, it wasn't our order. It also looked awful, the liquid colors of eggs benedict -- but basically a soup. And a bunch of sausage. I should have checked before we left, but honestly, I couldn't be in that place another minute. Will never, ever go back. -

It's been a couple of years since I have dined at Dusty's, but my most recent visit was a little lackluster. After a relaxing acupuncture session up the street, I was famished and in need of some lunch. I stopped in because there didn't seem to be many people there and I wanted a cozy place I could get a little reading done. I definitely should have walked the extra few feet over to Food Lab as my lunch left me feeling gross and heavy.
I ordered the chicken and mushroom crepe thinking that it would be filling but not too heavy. However, when my lukewarm crepe came out, I found that it was mostly a heavy cream sauce with a few mushrooms and diced chicken. The amount of cream in this dish had no seasonings and overpowered every ingredient. The crepe had to have been pre-made as it was a little tough and on the dry side. The side of fries it came with were the only highlights.
I love cream and butter and comfort foods...but this was just inedible and it was disappointing. However, the service was friendly and the complimentary bread was quite good. The decor is a mix of French bistro and grandma's living room...sort of charming, but a little..dusty.Listed in: Silver Lake

Came here with my lunch crew and I loved it. Normally I would never order a quiche because honestly most places don't make a good one but when I saw the spinach feta quiche I had to try it.
The quiche a good portion and I thought it was too much food but I finished it. It was so light and fresh tasting. AMAZING! Everyone at our table loved it there and I can't wait to go back...hint hint! :) -

Totally dig this place. Intimate bistro setting inside. Adorable cafe setting outside. Scott was my funny, charming, and patient server.
Not only do they allow dogs at the tables in front of the restaurant, but they allow alcohol, too. I had a wonderful glass of $6 red wine with my meal because of that little fact! (Heard their sangria is awesome.)
They just re-vamped their menu, making it a little lighter. But I had two cream-inspired dishes, so don't listen to me if you're looking for a salad review :)
Duck Poutine - 3 stars - a lot of potato wedges, covered in shredded cheese and gravy, with pieces of duck confit (needs more yummy duck)
Spiced Popcorn Lobster Bisque - 4 stars - soup was wonderful, and did not need the stale popcorn kernels on top
A little pricey, but you're paying for quality ingredients. I will definitely return for their touted breakfast/brunch. -
Review from Karen T.
I'm not too sure what happened in the last several months, but it was shocking to find that the food has severely declined. Perhaps it's a new chef, or new cooks, but I was sad and disappointed when I came in a couple Fridays ago for dinner only to be served a sad salad that might as well have been a Ready Pak from the supermarket (down to the dressing), and an overcooked entree of fish (with the oddest additions of baby corn, snow peas, and kumquats in an overpowering sticky sweet and sour sauce).
The duck poutine which I ordered turned out to be a braised beef poutine, which the waitress did inform after the fact, and asked if we were still interested in it. We obliged. It was simply okay, not particularly great. The steak fries definitely could have been cooked longer and seasoned better (or at all).
Our waitress, Kristen, was amazing though, who picked up on our dissatisfaction early on and quickly made attempts to save our dinner experience. She promptly took back the overcooked fish, which she even said she suspected was the case, and gave a new dish with a much nicer piece thankfully not nuked to death. At the end of the meal, she also offered complimentary dessert plus coffee and tea, which was very much appreciated. The bread pudding with what tasted like in-house made vanilla ice cream turned out to be the best dish of the evening.
I really, really hope they pick up their A-game once again when it comes to the food, as I do enjoy Dusty's as a whole, and would love to continue returning.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Finally.....
Every single time I've driven by it's always been too crowded or the wait to long, Finally on a mid Sunday afternoon close to 3pm there was no crowd and they still served breakfast.
It's very lovely inside and not overly done with the french theme.
We where greeted, seated and gave our drink orders, not to soon after that some bread and jams ( the orange marmalade ) where so yummy.
Before I even finished making my coffee to my liking our order of food was there, my friend had the crepes with she enjoyed, but said the Alfredo sauce was a little too much.
You can't really ruin eggs and bacon, so all in all a good breakfast.
I had my eye on some of the lunch menu and will return to tries those items but I spent roughly $ 20.00 on my meal including tip.
** The single ladies restroom was cute, and had a nice vanity table, it was clean and that's always important to me, especially since it's right next to the kitchen. -

So I came here different for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I had completely different experiences on all visits.
The breakfast I would say it's actually 5 stars, the menu has great options and the ambiance is really pleasant, their cappuccinos were really good.
Lunch was 4 stars, it was a good place to take my parents and they enjoyed their sandwiches very much.
The dinner however was 2 stars. The food, ambiance and service were not great at all, kind of a bummer since I told my friend great things about the place. All I can say is don't order the tuna tartar! -

For cuisine de la Quebecois it is really great. So much better than the places in Montreal that I remember. And like eating in Montreal, the atmosphere and service is warm and personal.
Perfect mid-week eats! Stay with the beef and you'lll be golden. We love the valet parking as well. It makes life so easy. -

Pretty decent neighbourhoody brunch place. A friend lives locally, and I was taken for breakfast.
They'll put a carafe of coffee down (and not bad filter coffee at that!), and they've an extensive menu of fairly-standards but it's pretty good, filling, and does the job. -

It ain't French. It's French/Canadian. HUGE difference. Don't get me wrong, this is not an insult.
Hmm... I'm stumped. This will be a boring review. Not that any of my other reviews are enlightening or even, informative.
My buddy had the Fillet Mignon. She liked.
The kid had the Mac and Cheese. This was the best. His mom and I ate most of it.
I had the Roasted Half Chicken. Very flavorful but overly salted. Came with tasty fries and spinach.
The House Chardonnay was actually very refreshing and light. We should have just bought a bottle after the 4th glass.
The atmosphere at the time was laxed. Then again, having a kid with us, we had a wayyy too early dinner. This is a good thing if you've ever tried eating at a restaurant with a 4 year old boy. Damn he's cute, tho.
The waiter was a moron. It's Silver Lake.
Parking is a bitch. It's Silver Lake -

I am oddly surprised to see this place had few great reviews. Each dinning experience is different, I guess.
I thought it was wonderful! The service was excellent and the food was very, very delicious. I had the croque madame and my girlfriend had the kobe beer burger -both of which were very, very good!
Mimosas were tasty as well with lots of different choices for 6 dollars each.
I loved the atmosphere and it brought me back to my days when I lived in France.
5 stars all the way. -

had the chicken & mushroom crepe which was super yummy but a little bit on the toooo creamy side. By half way through the crepe, I could not eat it anymore because the cream took over the dish.
Love the atmosphere of the place and service was excellent. We went around 3pm on a Sunday so the place was empty and quiet which was a bonus! -

Went here for the first time this morning! We sat outside along the sidewalk, and while there was a steady bustle of cars on Sunset, it was still nice to be outside!
Our server quickly brought the water and coffee we asked for, plus a basket of breads. He also brought a little divided plate of two types of jam and butter. I love the little touches like the fresh jam and my carafe of coffee!
I ordered an omelet with pancetta and broccolini and a side salad (yes it was 10 in the morning, but the salad sounded so light and fresh!)! Our server brought out our food and I was amazed at the flavor. I was expecting bits of pancetta, but instead discovered chunks of this salty meat distributed throughout the eggs and veggies. The omelet was perfectly cooked and was everything I was hoping for!
Our server was fantastic! He was very attentive and friendly. Made fun of my pre-coffee slurring when i tried to order! He made us laugh, making our breakfast really enjoyable!
Super excited to have such a great spot walking distances from home! I will definitely come back again! -

i love dusty's! i've only been here once, but i loved my experience there. i sat outside on the side patio area, so i didn't get to see the inside. but the patio was cute. we brought my puppy, and they were cool with that. they give you complimentary bread and jam which is very warm and soft. the best complimentary bread and butter combo i've had at any breakfast diner! i got the tuna melt which was pretty amazing. not too greasy, and the combo of cheese and tuna was perfect! my sister got the yogurt parfait which looked fresh and the arnold palmer came out in a pitcher which was also refreshing on the warm day we went. i want to go back again! not your average breakfast/brunch diner. hip and the food is def worth the money!!

The 2 stars is on the food only, if it were based on service I would give 1 it was terrible!!
We went for brunch last week and the only person worth mentioning was the hostess, we had to wait for a table and she was friendly and told us to wait at the bar. The Bartender straight up ignored me for about 10 minutes and kept walking right by me, I just wanted a glass of water, I had just walked there and I was parched. Finally after awkwardly staring he asked me what I wanted and walked away mid sentence to get me and my friend water. cool. We saw a table opened up and no one came to tell us it was ours so after about 5 minutes we just sat down because we were next.
The server who came to help us apparently hated his life because he couldn't crack a freaking smile. We asked if we could split the check and he rolled his eyes and I could feel the daggers in his stare. For real?? I work in a restaurant. It's not that damn hard to split a check. My friend was like.... If it's to much trouble you don't have to. You shouldn't be making your guests feel awkward and stupid for requesting something as simple as splitting a check. He ended up splitting it but we honestly didn't think he was going to because of the attitude. He came and checked on us once with a half assed how is everything? He should have just stayed away to be honest because his presence was really just ruining the mood.
The food was great, I had the stuffed french toast and one of their specialty mimosas. So delicious. The ricotta and cream cheese with the mixed fresh fruit was pristine. I'm so glad I made that choice. But when I'm paying $20 for a meal+drink I'm expecting some good service as well.
Maybe it's because I'm in the service industry as well? But Seriously leave your drama at home. You work for your tips hunny and with an attitude like that you're not going to make it that far. -

Returned with a few friends. Service was good but food not as good. Got the fried chicken again but this time it was dry and somewhat stringy. This was disappointing.

I apparently don't dress in the appropriate hipster gear required to get great service or a smile from the staff... But the food is pretty amazing.
