So I broke down and finally went to get a haircut yesterday cause my hair looked absolutely horrible, Mary did an amazing job, my hair looks and feels like new, no frizzyness in sight, no split ends to cry about.
Everyone I saw commented on how adorable and healthy my hair looked yesterday.

Mary has been doing my hair for YEARS now!!! Everywhere I go, I always get comments about my hair and I've referred several of my friends/co-workers to her. They've also said great things about her and she is also doing my co-worker's hair for her wedding!
She's got quite the spunk and personality for a great hairstylist and I highly recommend that you see her for your next hair appointment! Her cuts and color always turn out perfect and takes in every detail that you want her to tend to..
Mary is definitely the go-to gal if you want to look fabulous!

I started going to her after my hair was FRIED from a really bad highlight. She amazingly sent me out of the salon with much healthier hair the same day and now I am convinced my hair is at it's health peak!
I absolutely love this salon! The staff is extremely friendly and always makes you feel welcome. I see the staff constantly cleaning and re-organizing everything to make sure the salon looks it's best. My absolute favorite stylist is Jenn Chan because she always makes my hair turn out exactly the way I want it! Before doing anything with your hair, Jenn sits down with you and really tries to get a grasp of what you want. I have long hair, so it's crucial to me that my stylist isn't going to chop it all off without consulting me first. There's never been a time when I've walked out of the salon feeling unsatisfied. I can't wait to book my next appointment with Jenn Chan :)

I have finally found my hairstylist...
After years of searching for a hairstylist that can give me a great do as well as a stylist that I can actually talk to, I have found her. I've been to so many top-notch salons, driven over an hour to see a new stylist, spent countless amounts of money, to have my hair fried or tortured. I do have to admit that sometimes the stylist are good, but their personalities seem really fake. In most cases, the stylist are really nice for the first 10 minutes or so, then as their fake smiles go away, they become mute and don't mention a word to you until the whole ordeal is over. Mary, on the other hand is great. She's genuine and sweet. I can have a conversation with her for over and hour about my life or her life. She's extremely skilled and has the cutest cut. She is now hairstylist and I will follow her wherever she goes.
Best haircut I have ever had! Before I started coming here I would go into a salon armed with pictures a lengthy discussion of what I wanted and did not want. I used to fear every snip of the scissors.... That was before I met Dustin. Today Dustin totally redesigned my hair cut. It was EXACTLY what I wanted and I had never even shown him so much as one sample picture. My color is always amazing too. Thank you Dustin!
I have been going there since it was in the old building. The new location is incredible. Clean, chic, trendy, etc. It's been about 4 years now and I have built quite the relationship with Sylvia! She is incredible. I have referred about 15 people to her, and they referred others and now our entire group of friends goes to her. She knows all of our entire lives! I wouldn't ever go anywhere else. I love that they form personal relationships with their clients and actually remember you when you call!
The front desk staff are great, esp Sean. They are always very busy but he does a GREAT job at handling it all so you are not waiting forever!
Its so worth going here! They also have junior stylist classes to teach newer people. I think those are in the mornings and if you book an appointment its only about $15! The junior stylists are pretty good!
They also offer free bang cuts so you don't have to go in for a trim every couple of weeks! It's a great exchange point for me, and gets me coming back! (Sylvia can always tell when I try to trim my own bangs!)

Ps-She is incredible when it comes to dying. She knows what you can and cant do, why, and how to make it look good! And the highlights did not make my hair dry or bad at all. I totally trust them!
Jenn Chan is the best! I'm a high maintenance girl, and my hair's never looked better than when Jen cuts/color/style my hair. Even better, bang trims are free, and can be done just by walking in - they'll take care of you. Worth every (considerable) cent you pay. Great service, work, and attitudes.
Silvia is AMAZING!
I have been wearing my hair in a ponytail for my entire life because I could not find the right style to suit me. Silvia just gave me an ADORABLE bob haircut... I absolutely love it! I am wearing my hair down for the first time in my life! I couldn't be happier!

After I left this salon I thought to myself, "I spent how much?" Good god, this place is so not worth it.
I came here because my manager is a natural brunette and she comes here all the time to bleach her hair platinum blonde and it looks really really good. Sooo I was booked with Dustin and I swear he was with me for like.. 5 minutes. I wanted to do my hair this light-ish cute brown color, so they had to lift the previous color out first. Anyways, after Dustin explained what he would do, he sent his little aid Jen [she was really nice ] over... she worked on me the WHOLE time. I mean... if i'm paying for a master stylist or whatever the hell he is shouldn't HE be the one doing my hair? Anyways, after sitting in the chair for like 5-6 hours my hair was a greenish yellow color. Jen kept telling me that it looked good and it wasn't green and whatnot so I thought "maybe its just the lighting in here?" So I decided I was just going to pay and I'd look more at home... I had a trip when I got home my boyfriend said "I can't even describe what color it is"
I went to work and my manager said "oh my god, you have to go back and FIX it!" she called for me to go back and fix it and I sat there for another 3 hours and yeah..Dustin said "yeah I thought you would've need another coat of dye"... so why didn't he say anything when I left the first time!? Well, it wasn't green or yellow anymore.. it was still kind of ugly anddd not the color i wanted.
This is another hair nightmare I never want to relive. I'm staying far far awayyy.
NO customer service, NO promise, NO good hair.
Supercuts could do a better job. Dustin David doesn't live up to the hype or the level of promise or customer service. For $200, you except a senior stylist and not a junior stylish being supervised doing your hair. One has expectations, perhaps a bit of a miracle, something....not bad hair, not bad customer service, nor going back on one's words. And that's exactly what I experienced today.
They were like the Nordstrom of hair salon, not anymore. They've just downgraded themselves for the sake of business. Their egos have gotten waaaay inflated and their customer service completely deflated. I'll save you the horrid details. Suffice to say, the final result was horrifying and will never, ever return.
If you cherish your locks as I know most women do, go somewhere else. Save your money and your hair. Supercuts has to be better. Paying more doesn't necessarily mean you're guaranteed great results.
Also, when you buy salon products, it's not cheap. In fact the average cost of their shampoo is $24 for an 8oz bottle. They recently changed their return policy Oct. 1, which I didn't know since I was just there late Aug. and I wanted to exchange some products that I don't use for something else since that was their policy when I bought it. I get the whole run around and finally I'm speaking with the Mgr. and she's explaining why they changed their policy for business reasons. I totally understand business, but when you compromise customer service for business, you're going to lose both customers and business.
She finally agreed to exchange my products and after looking at my account realizes that I made some exchanges when I lasted visited (return policy in tact) and recinded her offer for exchange. The only thing that has changed is the lack of customer service, promise, and experienced stylists. Promises or their word around Dustin David doesn't mean anything. The level of customer service you'll receive will be "lip service" in name of business. Where is the integrity of one's word? Where are the experienced stylists?!
I give four stars to the salon itself, but FIVE STARS for SILIVIA!
I have been going to this salon for several years now, and Silvia has been great. She always gives me the best hair cuts and color. I trust her completely- she always knows what will look good with the kind of hair I have. I HIGHLY recommend her.
The only cons to this place are related to a certain stylist who shall remain nameless. The general catty comments of this personal who seems to regard ahem- himself- very highly can definitely start to grate when you are trying to have a relaxing day being pampered. If you can deal with that and tune it out, overall you will have a satisfying experience!! The salon is clean, bright, and open and the desk staff is professional and extremely friendly!

She is pretty much the most talented stylist ever! Great cuts, very edgy and modern. Color always comes out brillant. I've referred tons of my friends to her and they keep coming back.
Tangles down the road canceled at the last minute and left me in a huge bind on Saturday. I needed to have my hair done and makeup sch-lacked in 2 hours or less. I called Portfolio up and they were really able to accommodate me and roll with the punches. I was greeted with smiles and a willingness to really understand my situation.
Jasmine a stylist and the house makeup artist was bubbly and really knew her stuff when it came to hair and makeup. Prior to working at Portfolio, which is now called Dustin David Salon, Jasmine was working at numerous counters, one being Estee Lauder. She has a fantastic eye for color and what looks natural.
I was impressed by the economical factor also: the up-do AND the makeup came out to be $40 each and the total time was about 2 hours.
Their amazing adaptability to the situation was fantastic. Most of the stylists were gone for a magazine shoot and had brought a lot of the styling tools with them. They were able to use the tools they were left with and made them function the same way.

I was left pretty and happy that I finally did NOT look like a conehead with a clownface, which is usually the case when I come out of a salon or a makeup counter. Very impressive. I would drive out 45 mins to visit this LG salon for their other services.
I was very happy with my experience at the Salon. I was referred to Jasmine and felt that she did a great job!
I'm incredibly indecisive and had a vague idea of what I had in mind. After explaining it to Jasmine, she talked about what she thought would look good, found some pictures of it, and talked me through some of the color choices.
I would highly recommend this place, just be ready to pay a lot if you decide to buy any products...that's my word to the wise - try to hold off on that piece!

I love this place! I wanted to do something drastic, and warned them when I scheduled an appointment that I would need some time to decide and some hand holding. Megan was really patient with me and had lots of great ideas. She went way out of her way to make sure that I was happy with the cut - which was tough, because I had no idea what I wanted!
It was a great deal for the amount of time and effort she spent with me - I'll definitely go back!
I truly enjoyed my experience at Dustin David Salon. If you take into considerations that you wear your hair every day, than you should put some work into it! When I went in, I sat down with Dustin himself and he litterally took a profile of me. I was asked what look I wanted and than also asked what I did for a living, for liesure and a variety of other similar questions. Then, after hearing what I though would be good, he made some suggestions. The end result is a hair style and cut that can be worn to work in software sales,, while I am kayaking or biking, or even to out clubbing. Incredible stylist and very professional but also very personal. His staff is great and all seemed so nice and friendly. the entire atmosphere had nothing but class, style, and a essence, of 'we KNOW we can make your life better... trust us."
Well I did trust them and I am nothing but pleased with the result. By far the very best salon I have ever been in and the very best of royal treatment.
I LOVE THIS PLACE! I moved here 3 years ago and one of the hardest things for me to find was a good hair salon. I went to probably 4 different hair salons and didn't enjoy the stylists, atmosphere and more importantly my cut! I had a friend recommend this salon and her stylist Jessica. My hair has never looked better...she took my vision and made it better! Honestly, it's the best hair cut I've ever gotten. I've now been going there for well over a year and I will not go anywhere else!
The one bad thing I'd have to say is their receptionist (male) can be a bit on the stuck up side. I don't pay much attention to it cause it goes with the whole salon diva attitude that I somewhat expect from a more chic salon so, whatever...all they do it take my money and make my next appointment. I care more about my haircut!
An ode to Dustin...
In the world of hair cutting, trust is everything.
And there is no other man/woman on this earth that I would trust with my hair. Dustin is pure brilliance, not to mention honest (will this new cut make my face look fat?) and incredibly charming. Yes, it's a little crazy to drive all the way down to Los Gatos for a haircut, but I would drive to the ends of the earth for this man.
This place is great! soooooo much fun, and everyone is friendly, easygoing,and really know what they're doing!!!!
i got my hair done by Dustin and his asisstants( i have ALOT of hair :P), and my makeup was done by Jasmine for my Halloween wedding, and they did an amazing job!
Dustin is a master at what he does!!!!! he totally worked with me on the look i wanted, and was not satisfied until i was. i absolutely recommend this salon for hair! the color, the style , all AMAZING. i can't stress how knowledgeable every stylist is!
As for the makeup, Jasmine had the exact same attitude, she wasn't done till i was happy! again, she was totally helpful in helping me achieve the look i wanted ! I'm so grateful for them helping make this aprt of my dream wedding come true!!!!
Been seeing Dustin for my hair for a few years now and love, love, love him. He's kind of pricey but he is completely worth it. I've never had a cut that I didn't like walking out of this place. My only complaint is you have to book WAY in advance to get him.
I'm not the most experienced high-end salon girl, but this place is a real winner. I have hard-to-manage curly hair. They not only are the only place that has give me a haircut so that I feel comfortable to wear it down, but they also took the time to teach me how to style it.

if you need a haircut, color or highlights? then jenn chan is the woman to see. i've been going to her for the past two summers to get my hair lightened and highlighted and she's done an oh so amazing job.
My usual stylist at Umbrella, JEN was unavailable on the days I was available, so I decided to try Dustin David Salon.
My stylist was Megan. When I made the appt, I asked for a junior stylist and so the whole time I assumed she was a junior stylist (which is only 35$$) When it came time to pay, turns out shes a senior stylist? IDK where the communication went wrong there...didn't really mind paying the extra $ but ..weird.
ANYWAYS, besides that my whole experience was wonderful!
I walk in, and get a tour of where the bathroom and changing rooms are. Let myself to some comp cookies, fruit, tea, coffee, and waited 10 min past my appt time.
Megan herself was really nice. She asked me what I wanted...and didn't really seem to give me much guidance like when I asked her if bangs would look good or not. She kind of gave me the "either way it would look good" answer. Fortunately, i'm the type of person who knows what they want. I had long hair, and i told her to keep the length and maybe just cut off an inch and put some layers in for volume plus add some bangs. She agreed that it would look nice and took me to get my hair washed and was very gentle and considerate. \She kept asking me for my opinion on if I wanted more layers or not, etc etc and reminding me that it won't hurt her feelings so that i should tell her if I want her to change something.
She told me what products she used but totally didn't push them on me! i LOVE that. I hate having to buy products since I don't use them.
Personality wise, she was super duper nice and sweet, not TOO talkative and fake-o but not awkward either. Really a pleasant girl to have cut my hair and very willing to give me hair tips and show me how to style. Also, she followed my directions EXACTLY! She kept my length (forreals!) and made the layers look really really puuurty.
I would def come here again. Really friendly feel to the salon. Felt comfortable here =)
Dustin David is amazing! I am possibly the world's pickiest person when it comes to getting my hair done. I'm not kidding when I say that I will go back 5 times if it'll get me exactly the style/highlights want. At Dustin David, I didn't even have to show a picture, the stylists are so talented and will happily help you pick a look that enhances you. I've been to see Jasmine twice and I will never go anywhere else as long as I live in the Bay Area.

My initial review of the salon is below. I'm updating since Jenny isn't there anymore and it's my duty to keep you informed of my fantastic experiences. I've been seeing Megan for several months since Jenny left. I swear to you, she is the best stylist I've ever had. She always does my hair perfectly, I get red-carpet worthy blow outs, and she talks - or doesn't talk depending on my mood. I totally hate stylists that force conversation on you all the time!
So...yesterday she does my usual base/highlights/cut. Everything's going well, when Mary steps in to wash my hair. After she was done, we started talking about the awesome funky colors she has in her hair, and I told her I secretly always wanted to color my hair light pink, but never had the balls to do it. She told me she could piece the color into my hair, and I agreed. She gave me some great pink/fuscia streaks that I absolutely LOVE. I got complimented on them 11 times since leaving the salon to getting home at night. I definitely love the change....and that I was able to get pink in my hair, in a way that wouldn't negatively affect my corporate job.
Mary's got a bomb personality too....this was my first time really talking to her, although I see her all the time when I go in. She seems like one of those people who you'll never have a dull moment with.
Megan and Mary are awesome...I can't wait to go back and get more pink...I think I'm addicted!

Let me preface this review by stating that I have had my hair done from every type of salon....from the chic spots in West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, the overly expensive ones in San Francisco, and the ghetto "salons" with the sign in the front that says "Haircut $12, Perm $18" (don't ask me what I was thinking going to these hole in the wall places) etc. My hair is very damaged from years of bleaching and dyes, and is very resistant to color. I am very wary of people touching my hair, because I'm afraid they will over process it and it will end up being in worse condition than it currently is in. I started looking for a new salon due to the fact that my (now former) stylists' assistant pre-booked me for 2007, and all of my appointments were for partials. By the time the beginning of June rolled around, I had roots in the back about 2-3 inches long. Scary. I posted a message on Yelp Talk and someone recommended Dustin David's Salon...
On to the review!
This place is located across the street from The Gap in Los Gatos. Not much was open at 9:30 am on Saturday, but upon entering the salon, it was bustling inside. Very nice, modern-simplistic decor. Everything was organized and I was impressed with the layout of the place. Much nicer interior than ANY of the salons I've been to. Maybe I just love the minimalist simplicity of it. I arrived 20 minutes early and as I walked in I was greeted by the receptionist who had me fill out a card since it was my first time there. I had a 9:30 am appointment with stylist Jenny Voight (initially asked for Dustin, but obviously, he was booked) and she took me immediately. We briefly discussed what I wanted to be done, and what I had previously had done to my hair. Dustin came over and made some suggestions as to what level of color should be used to achieve the creamy blond color I wanted. She then went over her plan for my color and highlight and explained to me what she was going to be doing. Despite the fact that I like to read and relax while in salons, spas, etc, we made small talk briefly, which was refreshingly pleasant.
Someone else ended up washing my hair after my base and highlights were done, I wish I got her name because it was the best shampoo of my life. Head and neck massage...I almost fell asleep. I don't know where Jenny went, but when I was through, she wasn't around. Blow outs are $30, and since I was going straight home after, I asked the lady who washed my hair if she could just dry my hair a little, so it wasn't so damp and so I could see how the color looked. Unfortunately I hate how my hair looks when its wet, so I based my level of satisfaction on the lack of natural hair color and the evenness of the highlights. I was pleased, paid and left.
When I dried my hair on Sunday (blew it out myself to see how it looked), I was appalled. The "layers" of color I once had were gone, and I am now a creamy blond. This is *exactly* what I wanted. I am so happy with my hair, the level of service and professionalism of this place. I'm ranking this as my Number One salon experience since I was pleased with all aspects of my visit, and none of it was lacking. There is no question on whether or not I will be back...this place absolutely ROCKS!
I'm sure all of the stylists are phenomenal, but I can really only recommend the person who worked on me. So ladies/gents....you can trust your hair with Jenny Voight!

I have had a great experience with this place. It's cheap if you volunteer for the classes. I recommend Jenn Chan if you ever visit this place. The people are wonderful, friendly, creative, and unlike a lot of Los Gatos (btw I live here and happen to love it) ... as i was saying unlike a lof of Los Gatos they are not stuck up.
I love Portfolio - I've been coming here for at least two years and I don't think I'll ever get my hair cut at another salon again! I always see Jasmine - shes really nice and fun and will pick a style that totally suits your hair texture & face shape! I'd also recommend this place for getting your hair done (for weddings, prom, etc.) Dustin did my hair for my wedding and the styles he came up with were fabulous & soo pretty - updos/down with curls/whatever style you want he'll come up with some design and then tailor it for your preferences. Hair cuts are slightly pricey - $50-$100 depending on who cuts your hair and what other stuff you get (highlights, etc). but I think it's totally worth it.
When it comes to my hair and make-up I make sure I spend a decent price for an excellent job. I've been coming to this salon for a long while now and I always ask for Sylvia Freitas or Jessica. They're both senior artists and know what they are doing. I have the worse hair ever that's been colored every month, a different color. So I come here to get my funky colors and of course my hair isn't virgin and they can really fix up your hair really good. The product they use is great (Bumble Bumble), but really pricey. They treat you and pamper you well and I enjoy the atmosphere there, everyone is so friendly and unique, even their security dog has colored hair.
