one of my favorite Thai restaurants! love their garlic-pepper chicken & basil thai!! and the clear veggie soup they serve during lunch!!
whoever I have taken there, talks highly of the food! though it's not a fancy place, but their service is super quick!
I am slowly coming to learn what good Thai food is, what bad Thai food is, and what GREAT Thai is.
I would definitely say this joint falls between good and great.
We were driving around Sunnyvale last night trying to see if Google Places (an application for the G1) would find us a good place to eat... and this popped up so we said, "sure, why not?"
We were not disappointed.
We walked in an noticed how empty it was. We thought this might be a bad sign, but we were very wrong. We were promptly seated and made our choices. My girlfriend ordered some coconut juice and her old-stand-by Yellow Curry Chicken, but I decided to try something new; I ordered the Kao Soy with Chicken. The coconut juice arrived promptly, and it was served in the shell in which it was born. I posted a pic for you guys to see, it's very festive and authentic looking, and it tasted legit. We got out food and I was instantly amazed by the fine dinnerware they used; we both thought it was beautiful. My food was fantastic, Kao Soy is basically crispy egg noodles on top of soft, cooked egg noodles in yellow and red curry sauces with chicken. It was fantastic, and definitely one of, if not the best dish I've ever eaten. The sauce was fantastic, the chicken was moist, and the contrast between the crunchy and soft noodles just filled my mouth with glee.
The reason for the four stars was a poor carrot experience in my partner's dish. They tasted somewhat bitter and almost pickled. It was very odd and disappointing. They didn't ruin the dish, she simply pushed them aside and enjoyed the rest, but it was odd none-the-less.
I'd highly recommend this place to anyone that really enjoys Thai food, you definitely will not regret it.
this place is great.
i thought that i can handle spicy chili, woaaaaaaahhh, the chili levels are hottttttttt.
So be careful when you say Medium, it actually is really hot compared to other restaurants. I always ask really hot or hot or medium and have no problems.
Here- I was sweating like a pig, and liked it!!!!
Yummy food and good pricing - not too expensive but reasonable.
I dined here once but comes here once every two months during lunch. Lunch quality is really good and quick.
I have no complaints but always leave this place full and happy.
the staff is nice.
they also have a frequent card thing going on but I always forget because I changed purses :( and have not taken advantage of their stamp.
Lunch specials are reasonably priced. We came at 12:30 on a tuesday and were seated promptly. They have a large selection for the lunch specials and you can adjust the level of spice for your curries. Hot is really hot and
Medium seems just right
This place does not disappoint!
I've been here 2 times so far, and the service was fast, with filling, delicious food! So far my order got mixed up each time, but they were very quick to resolve it.
Not much else to say, definitely a safe bet for some good eatings.
This particular restaurant spot has changed so many times over the years since I have lived in Sunnyvale. I've seen it since it was a Pho restaurant awhile back.
I gave this place a try for quick thai food with my mom last week. The decor is quite nice but somehow it still carries a feel of a thai fast food place with its huge windows looking onto the parking lot and el camino real. Small family owned indeed. As we were trying to get some service, the guy was playing cards with his family in the back, which was funny. Otherwise, he carried with him a smile at all times.
We ordered:
1. Dusita Sampler- Perfect combination of fried tofu, satay chicken(to die for and tender), vegetable thai eggrolls, tempura thai style, fried shrimp, and fried meat patties (i forgot what it was called). This was a good choice to order to see how their cooking was like.
2. Radna- I usually love thick white rice noodles with gravy and green vegetables thai-ly made. But this time, they put too much gravy in it. It felt like a soup basically as we tried to scoop up the noodles onto our plate. If they made the gravy thicker and a bit less, it would of been perfect radna noodles.
Quick service. Alot of people in the area order to go! I would go here if i needed really quick thai food only. Otherwise, time to venture out to new thai places other than my fav spots in the bay area!
Our local favorite Thai.
Our party of six loved the food, start to finish. We've been to Dusita a number of times, and it is consistently good both in terms of service and food.
The food has a nice clean and fresh taste. You can taste every ingredient. They accommodated my vegetarian wife, who can be picky, and my gluten-free needs - no soy sauce. We ordered the food between mild and medium, and that was just right for us.
Different than many Thai restaurants with small plates, this one gives you plenty of food.

4-1/2 stars, actually. We were really happy with the meal and the service. The food has a nice clean… Read more »
The trouble with Thai food is when you become a known eater of hot at the restaurant, the owner may ply you with "you want it hotter?" Here is a cautionary tale.
A month or so ago, after ordering "hot" curry for months, they asked me if I wanted it "Thai Hot." I asked them if it would kill me, and they were pretty confident that it would not. So, I ate it. It caused seriously prickling, sweating, and cursing. But it was damn good.
So, this week, after that experience, went back with Rob G. and said "just Hot." Uh oh. It came out super-extra-hot. So hot that *I*, the amazing Patrick G., could not finish it. That's hot. So hot that I enjoyed a full shedding of all the cells in my mouth.
But enough about me. Poor Rob G. also asked for "hot." And he got it. He lost cells as well, but he was sweating profusely and basically looked 30 seconds away from an ambulance ride.
The manager came out. We told him it was too hot. Apparently he has heard this before, and apologized profusely. He brought us our bill, and included two chocolate ice creams on the house. Note to readers: chocolate ice cream is a cure for a burnt mouth. Ahhhhhhhh.
I will definitely keep going.

Great Thai place in an unassuming strip mall on El Camino. We went as a party of 9 last night to… Read more »
Well, as far as the food was concerned,it wasn't all the bad but hated their service. The waitress, who had taken my order was extremely rude. Compared to the other thai restaurants, their service was awful. I personally would not recommend this place to anyone.
This has recently become our favorite local Thai restaurant. The food is great, and the service is always courteous and polite.
They were also extremely generous providing food for our neighborhood party to raise donations for the Sunnyvale Community Services organization. They did this at a time when many other local restaurants turned us down for donations.
This is the first place where I was not able to finish the food as it was hot!!!! DO NOT ASK FOR THAI HOT.
Sat down quickly and ordered. There weren't that many other people that were there for lunch, so I was surprised that it took a REALLY long time for our food to come. And when it did, each dish came one at a time. So if you're one of those people who insist on waiting for everyone's food to arrive before you eat, you'll have to wait quite awhile.
The food itself was fine, although not hot. Which makes me wonder why they waited so long to bring it out if it was ready. It's not like they were waiting for al the food to be ready before they bring it out. For those of you who can't handle spicy food, beware that the medium hot is pretty spicy.
They're now open 7 days a week!
I came under the assumption that they were open for lunch Mon-Sat. I saw the menu on the way in and was looking forward to their lunch specials since it stated that they were avail Mon-Sat! :)
I didn't see any lunch special menu so I asked the waiter...who informed me that the lunch special is now only available during the week only ...argh...
Pad Kee Mao - 2 stars
- Rather bland
- Not too spicy even at mild-medium
- Chicken lacked flavor
- Noodles were slightly burnt and also lacked flavor
They do not joke around about the level of spiciness here...I came here and ordered the Pad Thai..I said I wanted it to be Thai hot..boy did I almost regret that later when the food came out. I guess next time I know now. The food was really good except the fact that it was too spicy for me to eat, which was my fault. lol We also tried their tom kha that wasn't bad at all. The lunch dishes are very cheap and portions are big.
compared to other cuisines, i'm not the best critic of thai food. i guess i agree with most silly valley locals that the historic champion of thai is probably krung thai over by valley fair or else maybe blue mango on stevens creek. in the past, i visited the santa clara dusita over by san tomas expressway because of coupons. i was pleasantly surprised by that location because it was much fancier than i had expected. when i saw that a new location was opening in sunnyvale with more parking, i was pretty happy.
well, to get straight to the point, i thought the food was just so.so on this visit. you see, in the past, my wife and i had bogo coupons, so we often ordered really fancy entrees. however, on this visit, we just did the usual lunch special thing. i think they are all $7.95 except when you get special meats or seafood, which drives the price up to $8.95 or something like that. my wife got penang curry with chicken (medium), and i got basil eggplant with beef (hot). i guess if i really want my food spicy at this kind of restaurant i should really insist on it. it was not very spicy. you see, at restaurants that get a lot of engineers, they know that these guys (hey, i'm an engineer) think they're all bad@$$ and can handle lots of spice... but then they get their dishes, can't handle it, n' whine. so... i know that they don't really believe me when i say i want my food spicy... so i need to really emphasize it. in fact, i heard an engineer at a neighbouring table tell the waiter, " i want it _thai_ hot." that's true. maybe i should do that too. however, i knew i also wanted to be able to share my food with my wife, so... eh.
because my wife wanted more vegetables, we also added a side of cucumber salad ($1.50) to our order. in a way, i feel that was a big mistake. the sliced cucumbers and red onions were floating in this supersweet, clear syrup. i really can't stand food that is too sweet. i had to rescue the veggies from that syrup and could only eat them with lots of rice to dull out the sweetness.
the service was very polite. our waiter was this younger man. at one point, he asked if my food was too spicy. i'm puzzled why he asked that because i was eating it pretty fast. maybe he thought my wife thought _her_ dish was too spicy because she was a little slower. he asked that when she was away from the table. *shrug* my final guess is that he just wanted to practice his english, which is fine by me.
well, i'll probably return to this restaurant some other time, when i again crave thai food. i wasn't super impressed this time, but i think it's an okay restaurant.
This place is delicious and extremely good value for lunch. I've been here several times with coworkers and have always had a great time. Service is quick and food comes out piping hot, literally! Please PLEASE beware of their "hot"!
I normally love spicy food, it is one of my favorite types of foods, and I eat anything spicy. Usually, 'spicy' or 'hot' at a Thai restaurant or even Indian restaurant doesn't phase me at all, however .... WOW this place knows their spicy.
Besides that, they have great fried noodles and their curries are amazing as well.
More and more, I'm enjoying this place as my go-to spot for late meals (they're open until 10 p.m.) Looking forward to trying alot of the other items on the menu.
I took my gf here for Valentine's Day, without any prior reservation (don't ask me why). Decor's pleasant and non-pretentious.
Service was warm, courteous and quick. We picked up a papaya salad, pineapple rice, and a curry. It was all tasty. Prices are reasonable and not shooting off into the stratosphere. I was surprised this place wasn't more busy, I guess nobody really knows about since it's tucked into a strip mall filled with other random restaurants and stores (Point bar is right adjacent to Dusita, btw, if you want to get your soju + fried chicken fix right after dinner). Great thing too is that b/c it's been under the radar, it's relatively quiet, casual, down-to-earth. No huge groups of friends. No 20-odd couples all deciding that this's a great place for a romantic date.
A nice touch for Valentine's Day was that they were giving customers chocolate and these cute litte salt and pepper shakers:

So far I've been back to here two consecutive times in the same week (grabbed some rice at 9:45 p.m. b/c of an earlier late lunch, and then a lunch here again b/c I was craving a different fried rice). And they definitely please. hahaha...it was funny when i called in the lunch meal for pick-up. The guy asked my name, and he said, "Oh....Jason [that-crazy-idiot-who-grabbed-food-from-us-last-ni ght]."
I like South East Asian Cuisine and Dusita Thai offers a variety. It's not just Thai, they have anything from Pad Thai to Kao Soy. Brilliant food, try their Satay Chicken, Spicy Shrimp Salad, and any number of dishes for dinner. Lunch specials are good but I've been really impressed with their dinner menu. The service can be a little frustrating, as they are kind of slow and do not communicate very well. Once the order is placed, however, the food is quick to be served. So just make sure you take initiative!
A great deal for lunch, but just ok for dinner. There's nothing in the food to get too excited about.
Well-earned four stars!
I went here with Gail F. We had been to the Santa Clara location before this one opened, and enjoyed it. This is VERY close to our houses, so we were excited at the possibility of a preferred Thai restaurant being so nearby.
We were pleased!
Like the Santa Clara location, the restaurant is fairly spacious and casual, while still being quiet enough for conversation.
Their menu is quite large and caters to just about every taste. They have standard restaurant dishes, rarer Thai dishes, and fun, original dishes. Each costs about $9. They're all fantastic. We ordered:
Roti Panang
Roast Duck Curry (Mild+)
Crispy Catfish (Mild)
Every dish was delicious and had, for us, just the right amount of spice to leave a little burning in the mouth. The food is not bland. The dishes came out quickly and the vegetables were very fresh. Everything tasted fresh and fantastic!
Portions were also very generous. We ended up taking home quite a bit. And I'm a notorious overeater!
I'm docking a star because they need to have more than one waitress. They seriously had one (very sweet) waitress running around and trying to serve everyone. I felt bad for her every time I had a request, because I knew she was already overwhelmed.
Overall, great experience! Probably my favorite Thai restaurant I've been to. Unlike others, not overrated! Dusita Thai (Sunnyvale) is a short 5-10 minute walk from my house. I am getting so much fatter.
My friends and I came here by accident after finding out Dish Dash and Ocean Blue Sushi in Sunnyvale were closed today on a Sunday.
Dusita Thai is in an okay area on El Camino. The dining area was setup well--nice place settings, neatly folded napkins; a clean and well kept place. It was a cold and wet evening, so they had heating dishes running.
Dinner was great! We started off with the Tom Yum Prawn soup with medium hotness. It was very flavorful and definitely a medium because if it got any hotter I wouldn't have tasted the following entrees.
We feasted on Dusita's Sampler (loved the fried sweet potato), Mussaman Curry (wished the potatoes were cooked a bit longer), Crazy Scallops (nice sized scallops), Rad Na Chicken (flat noodles were flavorful), and Basil Eggplant (plump and cooked just right, not soggy). We ordered these mild. The restaurant did offer us a mild-medium option, but we opted for mild just to be safe.
They did have Thai Ice Tea, but a few of us had wine instead. I had a glass of Clos du Bois Merlot. It went well with the entrees.
Service was very friendly! Out of the six of us, we each only had to pay $22, included a good tip. Each of us even received a frequent diner card stamped about 1/3 of the way to a free entree dish (up to a value of $10).
This place must be pretty good that there were a few customers doing take outs.
Wow, y'all weren't kiddin' about the spice were ya? Best Thai place I've been to in terms of quality, taste, and price. (Everything we ordered was $8.95). I will second the vote on Rama Beef, half-heartedly second the vote on Garlic and Pepper Chicken, and fully advocate Tom Kha Shrimp and Mango with Sticky Rice dessert.
Too bad you are so far in Sunnyvale.
I love this place! I go here about once a week and my favorite is the Panang Currey Chicken.. The soups are yummy too. They make it hot when you ask for it!
When you're in the mood for thai food and don't know where to go, this place is a safe bet. =)
I love their basil prawn and the pad kee mao (drunken noodle) is average, but on the better side. Make sure to rate your spicyness level at a 2, 3 if you can't handle spicy because even a 5 will make you perspirate.
Parking can get a little difficult, but you'll eventually find a spot.
I usually go to Thai Basil for my Thai food fix, but some friends pointed me to this place and I must say that this place kicks ass in terms of food, prices and spicy hotness.
They have a daily lunch menu with quite a few variety of dishes for a good deal at $6.95 and you get 2 egg rolls and a cup of soup. That's that's a bargain and make sure you know what you're doing when they ask you how spicy you want it. I believe they have like 6 different degrees of spiciness and I like to think of myself as someone who can handle spicy, but man! I ordered just "medium" and I could barely finish my meal and not only did my eyes tear up, I went through at least 3 pitchers of water.
This was only my first time, but I know for sure that I will be back and this time I think I will work my way up from mild and I would recommend you do the same if you value your tongue.
Van The Man Must Try : Pad sew ew MILD
Maybe the normal chef had a sick day when I got Dusita, because I ordered mild (since everyone on Yelp is saying it's so spicy) and it wasn't spicy at all. I don't have an unusual tolerance for spice either...
Anyway, I got the duck curry and the chicken pad thai. Everything was really "eh." The pad thai was a bit bland and the chicken was dry. The duck curry was nothing special. The portions are quite large though, so that's a plus.
It's a dangerous parking lot. Y'all know what I mean.
Finally! A Thai restaurant that knows what mild/medium/hot means. They have a very affordable lunch menu and tasty thai iced tea (a necessity if you order your food too hot like I did!) I got the Garlic & Pepper chicken (medium). It was a healthy portion of white meat chicken over lettuce with a little bit of a brown spicy sauce. The whole thing was topped with crunchy garlic too! I loved it, but next time I may order the "mild+" since I was pretty much crying and wiping my nose the whole meal. It was quite tasty though. My boyfriend got the basil tofu with veggies and said it was much more flavorful than other basil thai dishes he's had. It was loaded with healthy fresh veggies too. He got the "mild+" and seemed to be in less pain than I was. :) I took a look at their dinner menu and noticed some specials that weren't available at lunch - we will definitely be back!
ps. - service was fast and very friendly.
One of the better Thai places in the area. The service is great and the food is delicious and flavorful. We made the mistake once of ordering it Thai hot and WOW it was hot =P Its always a treat to come here.
The only downside which has nothing to do with the restaurant is the parking is very very limited, so you might have to park down the street.
SPICY!!!!
Thai places NEVER make things spicy enough for my liking (excluding Mix Bowl down in Claremont... mmm), but this place definitely did! That being said, I didn't actually like the spicy they used - too many seeds; I would have liked them to be ground into the food, or something similar...
Mad props for putting out such spicy dishes though!
Also, this restaurant doesn't get too crowded during lunch hour, so I may be coming around here more often in the future. Also their lunch specials are pretty big portions, though maybe not as big portions as Thai Chili Pepper on Fremont.
Maybe my expectations were too high because it had 4 stars on Yelp, but I found the food just average.
Ordered:
Appetizer: Bangkok Tempura, Mieng Cum, Tom Kha Mixed Seafood Soup
Entree: Pad Thai, Duck Run, Pompano Delight
Mild was a good choice; it was already spicy enough with a good kick.
The food at Dusita Thai is simply delightful and excellently valued. Sure, there are a lot of Thai places out there, but this one rises above the best with consistent fresh ingredients, friendly service, and the most yielding prices.
For lunch, I brought the Simon Cowells of cuisine: my super picky Apple workmates. We all loved it, from the ultra spicy to the pleasingly mild. Vegetarian to very meaty.
The mango sticky rice is my favorite dish by far - always sweet, tangy, ripe mango and delicately fragrant sticky rice. My mouth waters just thinking about it. Definitely check it out.
I love this place. The waitresses here are all so friendly and helpful. I usually order the thai iced tea but was curious about the thai iced coffee. She recommended the thai tea but also gave me a sample of the iced coffee in a martini glass. She won me over.
As everyone here has posted, the food here is spicy. You can get mild, mild plus, medium, medium plus, hot, thai spicy. Some of the people at my table were about to get medium but she warned us that the average person is good with mild plus. She was so correct. we ate so much rice that there were a lot of curries left over. Most prices were around 8-10 but I felt the bowls were bigger than the typical thai restaurant. Add in the spiciness and you'll be eating so much rice and water there is no way you'll finish it on your own.
We ordered the panang curry, green curry, bbq pork, khao soy, and pad see ew. If you are a spicy curry lover then you have to come here. The other dishes I would describe as being par with most other thai restaurants. They have a lot of dishes that I would like to try next time and I'll probably ask a recommendation from the lovely waitresses.
The food here is really good. We usually get the large sampler platter that has a ton of food on it, and the lime and cilantro basa fish dish. Although it smells really strong on Indian curry inside (since it's next door to an Indian grocery mart), the ambiance is nice inside and it is reasonably priced for decent thai. This place has become the go-to place for us when we want Thai.
When my friend and I arrived on Wednesday night at 8pm we were a little taken back that there was only one table of people at the restaurant. While we waited for the hostess/waitress to appear, we asked the one table if the food was good. They said yes so we waited. I ordered the Papaya Salad, Crispy Catfish, Yellow Curry and Coconut Ice Cream for dessert. We ordered Medium which was just really hot. I enjoyed it but my friend couldn't take the heat so I got the leftovers ( Score!)
The atmosphere of the restaurant itself is nice even though it's located in a strip mall. The wait staff was kind of slow because there was only one waitress for the entire place.
The menu is large so I feel like I'll be making many return trips there to sample more food.
solid 3 star...
the food is average...
disappointing in that they use canned tuna in their tuna salad.... curry is not bad.. and there was a good chicken dish....
*SPICY*
I pride myself on being pretty macho when it comes to spicy food, but this place is no joke. I hate to say it but asking for my seafood salad to be 'very spicy' was a mistake because I could not physically handle it. I basically asked the waitress to just leave the water pitcher at our table because I was waiving her over every couple minutes to refill my glass. She had kinda smirked at me when I was first ordering like she knew I would soon be suffering....EVIL!
That aside, the food was very good. Tom kha chicken soup was delicious and spicier than usual which I did appreciate.
Nice "hot" Thai food. Good value for money.
The service was good. The food was great - the crispy hot catfish was well done and was crispy on the outside, yet soft and tender inside. The Pad Thai was better than what you find at most places.
One note of caution though. Their food is quite spicy; something to keep in mind when placing your order. The waitress was kind enough to inform us of their spice levels, but some of felt brave enough to try the medium-hot level, which in hindsight was not the smartest thing to do. :)
Wow, I've practically tried every Thai restaurant in Sunnyvale. This one is so-so when it comes to the food. Nothing to write home about but not bad either.
Very friendly clean atmosphere. Had there basil fried rice with chicken very spicy! Food i would give it a 3 so far, i have to come here a few more times to see how really good the food is here. Cute servers =D
For dinner I had Basil Beef and the meat was tough! Told the server and all he said was sorry. I wanted to ask for a refund but didn't. Pad Thai was so bland not enough sauce. To me, this is not Thai food quality! I will not go here again!
