I still don't get why Dusit Thai Cuisine isn't as popular as some of the other Thai restaurants in Wheaton. OK, granted, it isn't a shoe box but its clean, the food is excellent ,and I never have trouble getting a seat.
I had dinner there last night at 8:30. The place was empty when I walked in. In the hour that I was there a few people came in to pick up carry-out but only one other table was filled before I left.
I had the Twice Cooked Duck appetizer. Stuffed my face with it is more like it. I love the combination of the spicy and citrus flavors in the sauce and the duck was cooked just right; still tender for the most part. It was the best Twice Cooked Duck Salad I've ever had. It ruined my appetite for the main course, Red Snapper Fillet with Hot Chili Paste. It was great but I was too full to eat more than a quarter of it. They very kindly packaged up the what I couldn't finish off last night.
With tip my bill came to $23.99, which leaves me very happy since I got two meals for that price.

The late lunch I had there today was awesome. I was going to order the green curry with chicken but… Read more »
OK, so we checked out Nava/Ruan and was then recommended Dusit by a friend. We walked in to find very few people there in the large place. Usually a bad sign. But then we noticed the place was ultra clean. The menus were standard. The Thai clear soup was awesome. We go there for that soup when we think of flavors we tasted in Thailand. It taste exactly like it. The noodle dishes are authentic, without Americanizing which says a lot about this place compared to their competitors in town.
The best part of the place is their fried banana appetizer with crushed peanut and coconut shavings. If you go there and don't get it, you are missing out!!! Oh, I still dream of that. After repeated visits there, we had flavorful dishes consistently without failure. The prices are reasonable.
The main reason why we go to Dusit is because it's not MSG heavy like Nava Thai which left me with drowsiness all night. It's definitely 100 times cleaner than Ruan. They have authentic flavors that travelers like us remember when we visited Thailand. Perhaps the recipe for successful Thai restaurants in Wheaton is to start out like a dump, maybe to give that small shop flavor. I personally think Dusit started out too big, but hey everything else is excellent and I am not the one paying rent. I notice people with kids there as the atmosphere is relaxed, and the place is not busy as othere. For this quality of clean food, authentic flavor and relaxed setting, I recommend it highly.
Interestingly, the rule of thumb for me is to never look into the kitchen as it has always proven to me a disappointment, if not unappetizing. Well, the kitchen door swung open one time and my peek in there was a clean kitchen with someone wiping down the outside of a rice cooker. I don't even clean the outside of my rice cooker! From the super clean dinning area to that peek in the kitchen, I am convinced why my intestines are always happy after Dusit.
if you want more pow in your ka pow, than this is the place for you. it's not real pretty and the parking sucks, but if you want thai food that's bent way more for the thai tongue than the european tongue, than this is this the place for you. i haven't ordered from here in ages, but just thinking of the red curry makes me think i should pick up the phone and ordering.... now.
p.s. anything with basil in thai is goooood.
I will solve everyone's mystery of why Dusit Thai is always empty--- they are a rip off! I will be honest though, the food is very good and tasty but after two bites you are done because the portions are so small so savor those two bites! I mean, I wouldn't mind if the dishes were priced according to portions but the prices are way to expensive. This actually used to be my favorite Thai restauant cause it is close to my home and very tasty but lately they have been so stingy with the meat, after buying the ginger shrimp which is sooo good for $11 and they gave me 4 shrimp in the smallest box that they usually use for rice I was very dissapointed. The Pad Thai which I USED to think was the best in the area had exactly 2 shrimp, so dont even think about letting someone try a bite or you'll be eating pure noodles and bean sprouts. So luckily they have an even better Thai place right down the street called Suporns, its a mom and pop shop, the prices are the same, but the food is way way better and very fresh and great portions so I will never be returning to Dusit Thai again. And I've talked to some other people who felt jipped too so it's not just me who feels this way. Bottom line, good food but not good enough for the your moneys worth. I mean I know we're in a recession but geez!
